Present Perfect Continuous Tense VS Past Perfect Continuous Tense ( English Grammar Lesson)
Present perfect continuous: is used to speak about an action that started in the past and is still on in the present. The action is not completed.
Example: I have been working at ABC for 5 years. (I started working 5 years ago, and I am still working currently)
Example: I am angry. I have been waiting for you for two hours. (from 2 pm-4 pm I have been waiting)
Example: It has been raining since last night. (last night, it started raining at 10 pm and it is still raining this morning)
Past perfect continuous: to show that something started in the past and continued until another time in the past. The action is not on in the present.
Example: I had been working at ABC for 5 years. (I started working in 2009 and resigned in Dec’14. Now, I am not working at ABC company. So, we use the past perfect continuous)
Example: I was angry. I had been waiting for John for two hours. (yesterday, the action of waiting was on for 2 hours)
Example: The road was wet. It had been raining for many hours yesterday. (yesterday, the action of raining started and went on for a couple of hours and then stopped. It is not raining in the present)

This is an English lesson about the past perfect tense.
The video starts with an example of when to use the verb tense.
You will then learn the form, in particular, the affirmative, negative and question forms with the appropriate contracted forms.
The affirmative form of the past perfect is made up of the subject + had + the main verb in the past participle form. "had" is the past form of the verb "have" being used as an auxiliary verb.
We then look at all the common uses and meaning of the verb tense.
The three main uses of the past perfect tense are:
1)To describe the first action or event in a series of actions or events from the past,
2)In reported speech when the reporting verb is in the past and the direct speech tense would be the past simple or the present perfect. Example: He said that he had liked the film.
3)In past unreal conditionals to describe an unreal situation from the past. Example: "If he had come to the party, I would have been pleased."
At the end of the English grammar lesson, there is an exercise for you to complete.
The accent in the video is a British English accent.

Don't be afraid of this grammar lesson! I'll teach you how to use the PRESENT PERFECT TENSE easily, so you can start using it right after this lesson! I'll give you lots of examples, so you will understand how to talk about things you have done all your life, or things that you have never done before. You'll learn to use the word "never" with regular and irregular verbs in present perfect. Check out this lesson and master this very useful English grammar tense! Then test yourself with the quiz: http://www.engvid.com/english-grammar-present-perfect-tense-never/
TRANSCRIPT
Hi. I'm Rebecca from engVid. In this lesson, you're going to start using the present perfect tense right away in an easy way. Now, a lot of students get a little bit scared of using the present perfect tense, but you don't have to be, especially after this lesson. I think you'll find an easy way to use it, and a reason to use it. Okay?
So, first of all, just very quickly: What's the present perfect tense? It sounds like this. It sounds like: "I have skated." or "I have flown." Right? So, what does that mean? When I say: "I have skated many times in my life." it means that at some time in the past, I did something and it's still true today. Okay? So just as we can talk about things that we have done in our lives... For example: "I have seen that movie.", "I have read that book." Correct? The same way, you can also talk about what you have never done, because I'm sure that there are some things that you've never done, just like there are some things I've never done. So, we can use the present perfect to describe these actions as well. So, I'll show you what I mean? Okay? There are many good examples on the board.
So, let's look at this. So, for example, with that sentence that I gave you at the beginning: "I have skated many times in my life." Now, actually, that's not true. I have never skated, okay? Even though I live in Canada, I have never skated. So, that is how we can use the present perfect tense with the word "never". So, "skated" is a regular verb. Regular verb means that in the past tense we add a "d" or an "ed". "Flown" is an irregular verb, so when we use it with the present perfect, we use the past participle. There's usually like a third form, there's a long list, you kind of have to learn by heart, when you're in school, when you're learning the present perfect, and you can practice it here because you'll see many examples that I've written for you on the board.
So, here, we put the word "never" just before this last verb. Okay? So: "I have never skated.", "I have never flown." Okay? What do I mean by "flown"? So, for example, flown by airli-... By air. That's not true. In my case, I have travelled. But there are many people in the world who have never had a chance to travel by air, so they... That person could say: "I have never flown by air." Okay? All right.
So, let's look at many examples so you'll understand how to say something like this. So, here I've got all the subjects, here we have the word "never", and here we have many regular verbs, and here, many irregular verbs. So let's make a lot of different sentences so you can hear the pattern of this type of sentence, as well as understanding the grammar of it. So, here we have the subject: "I've". What is "I've"? "I've" is short for "I have". Right? But when we are speaking in conversational English, usually we don't say: "I have never flown." or "I have never eaten..." No. We just say: "I've". Okay? So that's a contraction. All of these are contractions that we use in regular conversational English.
So, let's make some sentences, now. "I've never visited China." Okay? So, here, we had the subject, the word "never", the verb, regular verb, past tense form, and some more information. Right? "I've never visited China.", "You've never talked to him before.", "So why are you talking to him now?" somebody might say. Okay. "We've never tried Korean food.", "They've never played so well."

TRANSCRIPT

Here is an English lesson about the past continuous tense. This tense is also known as the past progressive.
In this video, I explain the past continuous form - the affirmative, negative and question forms. The negative form also has a contracted form.
The past continuous affirmative form is made up of the subject, the past form of the verb "to be" and then the -ing form of the main verb (also called the present participle)
An example is: "I was walking".
The past continuous tense has several uses. The main use is to describe a long action that is happening around another shorter action in the past. For the shorter action, we use the past simple. An example is "I was talking to Mark when the telephone rang."
We also use the past progressive tense to set the scene in a story, to describe 2 long actions that happen in parallel (the same time). I explain these uses and a few others with examples in this lesson.
At the end of the lesson, there are a few English grammar exercises to test your understanding.
The accent in the video is a British English accent.

The Past Perfect Tense (I had gone) - English Grammar lesson
Generally there is a lot of confusion between using the simple past and the past perfect tense. The past perfect tense always has a verb in the past participle form that is followed by ‘had’.
The past perfect tense is used when you want to say something happened before another past action. If two actions happened, the action that happened first comes in the past perfect, and the action that happened second, takes the simple past form.
Example 01: When I reached the station, the train had started. (‘had started’ is the past perfect tense. This shows, first the train started and then I reached.)
Example 02: Jane had read a lot before she went to the zoo. (‘had read’ is the past perfect to show that it happened first.
Example 03: Before the installation of the new software, productivity had been low.
Example 04: After I had had my dinner, I completed my work. (first I had eaten my dinner)
