Rented home of Mr. & Mrs. Edward Scott & their 4 children, moved there from D.C. recently. Recent break-ins occurred last week. Bill Winter, private investigator on case for last 3 days, neighbors seem surprised. 2/16/1973 Albina Youth Opportunity School; future of federally funded agencies appears to be headed toward end. Students form Albina Youth School went to Robert Blanchard & got letter from him opposing federal funding cutback. Blanchard talks about the school. 10/9/1973 Black Power; former head of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, Stokeley Carmichael address Ed audience at PSU. Repeated conviction that socialism must replace capitalism, also said they need accurate interpretations of their history. 6/15/1973 Minority Workers; group of between 15 - 20 people calling themselves United Minority Workers showed up at construction site in N Portland shortly before noon and shut it down. Came to Piedmont Plaza, Nathan Proby talks. 9/5/1973 Minority Workers; officials of United Minority Workers & the Chicano Indian Study Center of Oregon charged contractors are in violation of Federal Equal Opportunity Employment policies, claimed Todd Building Co. as one of the companies. Spokesman for the Civil Service Division of the General Services Admin. Russ Rogers talks, followed by Gordon T. Todd, manager of Todd Construction. 8/10/1973 Minority Workers; United Minority Workers declared dissatisfaction with Equal Employment Opportunity Comm. With 3 complaints files against Operating Engineers Union Local 701, charging them with discrimination. Glenna Page, member of the UMW board of directors sited examples of discrimination. Nathan Proby, Lloyd Knudsen of the AFL-CIO talk. 6/27/1973 Minority Employment; official of the Urban League says agreement reached between Portland Urban League, Building Trades Council & the Assoc. of General Contractors on minority employment in building trades breaking down. Al Clarke is field director for OUTREACH. 2/12/1974 Black Cultural Month of creativity Through Work was the theme for the 4th annual Black Cultural Month at Portland State university. Observance has not been a success. Chairman of the BCA board, Joseph McHery talks about apathy as reason for failure. 5/21/1974 Minority Workers; Minority workers filed suit to gain membership in union that they say is denying them jobs. March from Local 701 of the Operating Engineers to the U.S. courthouse. Nathan Proby talks about their complaint. 5/30/1974 Minorities Program; mass media program at OSU opens opportunities for minorities in field of communication. Journalism Professor, Harold Dorn discussed the course philosophy. Shots of class. 5/16/1974 Police, Minority Recruiter; bureau's minority recruiter Robert Davis has quit, contending he could not continue in post and maintain integrity. Said wouldn't let him discriminate against members of minority races and women. Personnel director Lt. Robert Schwartz says it is not so. 3/21/1975 Albina Health Care Center; clinic providing Model Cities residents with medical care they might not otherwise be able to afford fighting for its live. Shots of the center. Trying to find sources of funding because of Model Cities being phased out, talked to James Loving, treasurer of the center. 3/21/1975 Shooting Protest; just a week ago Portland Police Officer shot & killed 17 year old black youth named Ricky Johnson. Young man killed while he & a friend allegedly preparing to commit robbery. Charlotte Williams of Black Student Union at Portland State University called the killing a murder. 3/24/1975/ Orig date 3/22; Shooting Protest; fatal police shooting of 17 year old Ricky Johnson led to protest demonstration and announcement of public inquest into the death. Shots of the demonstration. 3/24/1975 Shooting; public interest in the shooting of 17 year old Ricky Johnson such that the D.A. ordered inquest into incident.
