Philosophy of music, or how to find yourself through the sound | Pavel Baryshnikov | TEDxPSLU
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Pavel Baryshnikov, being the front man of his musical band “Vereskovy miod” (“Heather honey”), believes that music can be seen as some kind of a science. And so he suggests the audience to listen to three compositions played by the band and decide which composition reminds of Maths, which one reminds of Music

YellowBrickCinema is the leader in Sleep Music, Relaxing Music, Study Music, Meditation Music (including Tibetan Music and Shamanic Music), Healing Music, Reiki Music, Zen Music, Spa and Massage Music, and Yoga Music.
We compose instrumental music that is specially designed to encourage and enhance relaxation, meditation, brain function and concentration, spa and massage therapy, and healing music therapy. In addition, we use binaural beats (Delta Waves, Alpha Waves and Theta Waves) to naturally encourage a state of relaxation which is perfect for concentration, meditation or deep sleep. Our long music playlists are perfect for your daily meditation and relaxation. Our music videos use light, beautiful, calming sounds (some with nature sounds) that leave you feeling refreshed.
Our music is popular for the following:
► Sleep Music:
YellowBrickCinema’s deep sleep music videos have been specifically composed to relax mind and body, and are suitable for babies, children, teens, and adults who need slow, beautiful, soft, soothing music to assist them to fall asleep, or to combat insomnia. See them as a form of sleep meditation or sleep hypnosis gently easing you into that wonderful relaxing world of healing sleep.
Our soothing music incorporates the relaxing sounds of nature to lull you into a deep, peaceful sleep. Use our music videos for sleep meditation and allow the dreamy landscape images to move body and mind into a deep state of relaxation. Fill your mind with our sleep music’s beautiful, soothing instrumental sounds while your brain moves through Theta Waves and Delta Waves, giving you the healing sleep you so richly deserve.
Whether you are a mother wanting to gently help your baby or toddler to fall asleep, a teenager wanting to slow and calm your racing mind, an executive lying awake stressed about work or a senior citizen battling with sleep insomnia, choosing one of YellowBrickCinema’s sleep music videos with their relaxing sounds will give you the deep sleep you need.
►Study & Focus Music:
YellowBrickCinema’s Study Music & Concentration Music is ideal background music to help you to study, concentrate, focus and work more effectively. We incorporate powerful Alpha Waves that naturally allow your mind to reach a state of focus, perfect for studying for that big test or exam.
►Relaxation, Meditation and Healing Music:
Our relaxing music is perfect for Deepak Chopra meditations, Buddhist meditation, Zen meditation, Mindfulness meditation and Eckhart Tolle meditation. This music is influenced by Japanese meditation music, Indian meditation music, Tibetan music and Shamanic music. Some benefits include cleansing the Chakra, opening the Third Eye and increasing Transcendental meditation skills. The work of Byron Katie, Sedona Method, Silva Method and the Secret highlights the fact that healing can occur through using the mind and being in the “now”. Healing Meditation can be practised using this music for best results.
► Spa and Massage Music:
Our light instrumental music is useful after a long day of work to unwind and relax. The spa music, nature sounds, rain sounds, light piano, and easy listening instruments used in these tracks encourage ultimate relaxation. YellowBrickCinema’s music is great for massage therapy, and our music will help you relax your mind and body.
►Reiki & Zen Music:
Our Reiki Music and Zen Music is ideal for Reiki healing sessions, and encouraging a state of Zen. Let the calming, subtle sounds take you to a higher state of consciousness, and allow you to give and receive powerful Reiki vibrations.
►Yoga Music:
Our calming music is useful for yoga for beginners, yoga exercises, yoga chants influenced by Indian songs, African music, and is soothing music which can enable you to go into a yoga trance. If you are familiar with the work of Yogscast, Hare Krishna, Michael Franti, and Keshna be sure to use this.
►Nature Music:
We use nature sounds such as gentle rain, rainstorm and thunder sounds, flowing river and waterfall sounds, relaxing waves on a beach, and bird songs in the forest, either as standalone relaxing sounds, or to enhance our relaxing music tracks.

« Philosophy of music, politics of music »

Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...
Q: Transcribing, I know is really important. So far, I've watched both of your transcribing lessons. But, now that I know some of the basics, I feel that I'm lacking a step-by-step philosophy for how to go onward. Could you offer a philosophical outlook and break this all down for approaching transcribing so that over time I can become really good at doing it?
Dev - New Delhi, India
A: I can think of seven areas that are very important for developing this skill. They are; a knowledge of how melodic lines operate on the guitar / a connection to matching pitch / good knowledge of rhythmic duration and time signatures / a solid understanding of harmony / an ability to recognize a pitch from any type of instrument / good hand dexterity and co-ordination / and finally, a well developed ability for; groove, timing and the beat. These areas not only need to become skillfully developed, but they must also be well understood. In the video, I run through each of these areas in greater detail.

Pianist Maksim Mrvica, with 'fingers given by God'
Pianist Maksim Mrvica caused a sensation in the classical music world with his
powerful performances of crossover music. He started playing the piano at the age of 9
in 1983 and won first prize at the Zagreb International Piano Competition in 1993. He is
an accomplished pianist who won the Nicolai Rubinstein International Piano
Competition in 1999 and the Pontoise Piano Competition in Paris in 2000.
With great passion and dedication toward music, he continued his piano lessons amid
war and honed his skills to strive toward his dream. For Maksim Mrvica, music was his
hope and his life. 'The Piano Player,' his debut album released in 2003, made double
platinum in Hong Kong, platinum in Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and Croatia, and gold in
Malaysia, Indonesia and China. This album helped him gain international fame with his
crossover music that had a blend of an intense techno sound and rapid notes that
were played with precision. His impressive performance of 'The Flight of Bumblebee'
received accolades from both the public and critics and he was praised as having
'fingers that are like a gift from God.'
Maksim Mrvica can empathize with the situation in Korea because of his own
experience with war in his home country, Croatia. He's already been to Korea more than
20 times to perform and is widely loved by the local music enthusiasts. Tune into The
INNERview to listen to the performances by the award-winning pianist and hear his
story.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Pavel Baryshnikov, being the front man of his musical band “Vereskovy miod” (“Heather honey”), believes that music can be seen as some kind of a science. And so he suggests the audience to listen to three compositions played by the band and decide which composition reminds of Maths, which one reminds of Music and which is a mixed one.
Pavel Baryshnikov - candidate of philosophical Sciences, associate Professor of philosophy, cultural studies and Ethnology of PSLU, the climber, the founder of the group "Vereskovy miod" ("Heather honey")
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Our series on overbending at BluesHarmonica.com continues with instructor Ross Garren interviewing the harmonica players that have pioneered the use of overbends in the blues. Our original intention was to do a written article, but it quickly became apparent that we should video record these Skype interviews for you to watch. Skype video quality is not the best, but we thought you would appreciate seeing and hearing them over just reading an article. After students of BluesHarmonica.com watch these interviews Ross will start to walk them through the art of overbending in the blues. If you would like to see this entire series, become a subscribed member of BluesHarmonica.com
