OK. OK. OK. OK. A week ago today, our sleepy country awoke to the news that the largest mass shooting in our short history had occurred at a gay nightclub in Orlando. I was in Mexico when the news broke, and I felt completely helpless. Later that day, I learned that another attack, similar in nature, had occurred at a gay club in Veracruz, Mexico a couple weeks prior to the Pulse massacre. After a one long, hazy day full of headlines and numbers, I sat up that night and wrote and wrote and wrote. Like a lot of you, that’s the only thing I know how to do to declutter my wee brain. “OK” is the result of that decluttering. It is dedicated to the victims of the massacres at Pulse and La Madame. My team and I shot the film at Laberinto in Queretaro, Mexico. The track can be purchased at http://blakepfeil.bandcamp.com/track/ok. All proceeds will go to the Human Rights Campaign in the USA and to COPRED, the largest anti-discrimination organization in Mexico. "I love you" "I love every electron that makes you you" Because my fingers are shaking And my pale skin is shaking And my cold lungs are shaking Because it's just a numbers game now And we're dumber somehow Yet we're expected to plow Right on thru another bigger, bloodier, buffoonery of a mess But instead of a solution Our brooms keep getting greater Our mops keep getting wetter Our buckets keep getting deeper, And soon the floor is gonna be so soiled That it's gonna sink And the ground will swallow it And replace it with what was here before Which was a nothing Which, if you ask me, In my humble, homosexual, homo sapien opinion Is way better than the daze of a maze That we're gazing at these days And yet I am still amazed When my mom chimes in, "Hey, we'll be OK, "Maybe not today, "Maybe not tomorrow, "Or the next day or the next day or the next day or the next day "Or the next day after that or the next day after that or the next day after that or the next day after that "But someday "Sure "I see us smiling "Screaming at the sky "Singing at the stars "Saying, ANY DAY NOW!
