Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax
Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax, KG OM GCSI GCMG GCIE TD PC (16 April 1881 – 23 December 1959), styled Lord Irwin from 1925 until 1934 and Viscount Halifax from 1934 until 1944, was one of the most senior British Conservative politicians of the 1930s. He held several senior ministerial posts during this time, most notably those of Viceroy of India from 1925 to 1931 and of Foreign Secretary between 1938 and 1940. He is regarded as one of the architects of the policy of appeasement prior to the Second World War, during which he served as British Ambassador in Washington.
Early career
Halifax was born into a Yorkshire family, the fourth son of Charles Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax. He and his siblings were all sickly; his three older brothers died young, leaving him as heir to his father's fortune and seat in the House of Lords. He was born with no left hand and a withered left arm, but still enjoyed riding, hunting and shooting. That and his religiosity as a devout Anglo-Catholic like his father prompted Winston Churchill to nickname him the "Holy Fox". In 2009, the family's roots were traced back to the Viking warrior, Magnus Irwinsson, who arrived in England in 1066, with the army of Harold Hardrada.

Lord
Lord is an appellation for a person or deity who has authority, control, or power over others acting like a master, a chief, or a ruler. The appellation can also denote certain persons who hold a title of the peerage in the United Kingdom, or are entitled to courtesy titles. The collective "Lords" can refer to a group or body of peers.
Etymology
According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the etymology of the word can be traced back to the Old English word hlāford which originated from hlāfweard meaning "loaf-ward" or "bread keeper", reflecting the Germanic tribal custom of a chieftain providing food for his followers. The appellation "lord" is primarily applied to men, while for women the appellation "lady" is used. However, this is no longer universal: the Lord of Mann, a title currently held by the Queen of the United Kingdom, and female Lord Mayors are examples of women who are styled Lord.
Historical usage
Feudalism
Under the feudal system, "lord" had a wide, loose and varied meaning. An overlord was a person from whom a landholding or a manor was held by a mesne lord or vassal under various forms of feudal land tenure. The modern term "landlord" is a vestigial survival of this function. A liege lord was a person to whom a vassal owed sworn allegiance. Neither of these terms were titular dignities, but rather factual appellations, which described the relationship between two or more persons within the highly stratified feudal social system. For example, a man might be Lord of the Manor to his own tenants but also a vassal of his own overlord, who in turn was a vassal of the King. Where a knight was a lord of the manor, he was referred to in contemporary documents as "John (Surname), knight, lord of (manor name)". A feudal baron was a true titular dignity, with the right to attend Parliament, but a feudal baron, Lord of the Manor of many manors, was a vassal of the King.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), commonly called the Foreign Office, is a department of the Government of the United Kingdom. It is responsible for protecting and promoting British interests worldwide. It was created in 1968 by merging the Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Office.
The head of the FCO is the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, commonly abbreviated to "Foreign Secretary" (currently Philip Hammond). This position is regarded as one of the four most prestigious appointments in the Cabinet, alongside those of Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary. Together with the Prime Minister, these are the Great Offices of State.
The FCO is managed from day-to-day by a civil servant, the Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, who also acts as the Head of the Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service. This position is held by Sir Simon McDonald, who took office on 1 September 2015.

James Stevens: If two members of staff have to fall in love and decide to get married, there's nothing one can say. But what I do find a major irritation are those persons who are simply going from post to post looking for romance.
Stevens: In my philosophy, Mr. Benn, a man cannot call himself well-contented until he has done all he can to be of service to his employer. Of course, this assumes that one's employer is a superior person, not only in rank, or wealth, but in moral stature.
Father: There was this English butler out in India. One day, he goes in the dining room and what does he see under the table ? A tiger. Not turning a hair, he goes straight to the drawing room. "Hum, hum. Excuse me, my lord," and whispering, so as not to upset the ladies : "I'm very sorry my lord. There appears to be a tiger in the dining room. Perhaps his Lordship will permit use of the twelve bores ?" They go on drinking their tea. And then, there's three gunshots. Well, they don't think nothing of it, this being out in India where they're used to anything. When the butler is back to refresh the teapots, he says, cool as a cucumber : "Dinner will be served at the usual time, my lord. And I am pleased to say there will be no discernible traces left of the recent occurence by that time." There will be no discernible traces of the recent occurrence by that time!

Este quis saber "como a Grã-Bretanha poderia continuar enfrentando tamanha fúria".
Alguns ficaram constrangidos, menos Churchill. Sorrindo, contou uma historinha:
"Era uma vez dois sapos. O Sapo Otimista e o Sapo Pessimista. Uma noite, os dois sapos saíram pulando na floresta atraídos pelo cheiro de leite fresco que vinha de uma leiteria. Eles pularam a janela da leiteria e caíram direto dentro de um latão de leite".
Churchill tomou um gole de conhaque, soltou uma baforada de seu charuto e concluiu:
"As laterais do latão eram íngremes demais. O Sapo Pessimista logo desistiu e afundou. Mas o Sapo Otimista ganhou coragem e começou a nadar e a se debater, esperando conseguir sair de alguma forma. Ele não sabia como, mas não desistiria sem lutar. Ele se agitou por toda a noite e pela manhã — ah, que alegria! — ele estava flutuando em uma rodela de manteiga!"
Ao perceber que a turma, a sua, ficara satisfeita, Churchill fumou mais uma vez e concluiu: "Eu sou o Sapo Otimista". Fisicamente, Churchill parecia um sapão.
A história está contada no competente A Missão Secreta de Rudolf Hess — O Estranho Vôo do Vice de Hitler e o Segredo Mais Bem Guardado da Espionagem Britânica (Record, 2007, 361 páginas), do historiador galês Martin Allen.
Allen mostra que Hitler tentou a paz com a Inglaterra, mas não com Churchill, que queria destrui-lo a qualquer custo. Percebendo a insegurança de Hitler, que vencia a guerra com relativa facilidade, o serviço de espionagem inglês montou a Operação Srs. HHHH (Hitler, Hess, Haushofer, Hoare, Halifax). Essa operação, habilmente articulada, sugeriu a Hitler que havia uma dissidência na Inglaterra, liderada por lorde Halifax e pelo embaixador Samuel Hoare. Essa dissidência estaria disposta a destituir Churchill e negociar a paz.

George Galloway opens by graciously thanking the Union and mentioning that the last time he spoke involved an encounter from an enraged student about Hugo Chavez.

He outlines that his talk will be about Britain rather than the rest of the world. During the Second World War Winston Churchill was invited by his own foreign secretary, Lord Halifax to make peace with Hitler, a surrender peace with Hitler. Churchill said he would rather everyone be choking on their own blood than to have Great Britain surrender to the Nazi's. If Britain had been invaded and Churchill escaped death then he would have retreated to the hills to organise the British resistance. He makes this point as there are so many people in Britain that don't understand that any people who have had their homeland invaded and occupied by others feels exactly the same.
He speaks of his past mentioning that he nearly came to blows with Tony Blair in the corridors of Oxford University, saying that if he invaded Iraq the fall of Baghdad wouldn't be the beginning of the end but would be the end of the beginning.
He goes on to say that the United Kingdom could be no more as of September 2014 because of Scotland's hatred for the Tory rule of the UK. He says the Labour party and Tory parties are like two cheeks of the same backside, so close together they don't differ in opinion on any of the big issues such as immigration, benefits, the economy.
Moving on if you are caught pickpocketing in London you go to prison but bankers who squander millions of pounds damaging the British economy remain unpunished. Some sources around Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, suggest that there are still £100Billion avoided and evaded in income tax every year from the biggest earners and corporations in Britain. If we got that tax there would be no deficit, no need for cuts or tuition fees or a times of austerity.
He tells of how his phone was hacked and how the press in this country are rotten to the core for hacking the phone of Minnie Dowler, a girl who messages were still being answered long after she was dead giving her parents false hope.
Our leaders make us a hated nation; the people don't believe anything politicians say anymore due to countless broken promises. George Galloway concludes by saying we should open our eyes to the state of our nation and to reject the state of mediocrity that British politics has become.

Mit einem dumm dreisten Portrait des Bösen wurden dort die Deutschen als als Unmenschen gebranntmarkt. Dadurch konnte einerseits die Erinnerung an die alliierten Kriegsverbrechen überdeckt und ausgelöscht werden, und andererseits wurde so rückwirkend der amerikanische Kriegseintritt gerechtfertigt. Der Film zeigt, wie nicht nur die Amerikaner, sondern auch der Rest der Welt für den Krieg manipuliert wurde und wie heutzutage genau gleich für Kriege manipuliert wird.
