Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España, S.A., commonly known as Iberia, is the flag carrier airline of Spain. Based in Madrid, it operates an international network of services from its main bases of Madrid-Barajas Airport and Barcelona El Prat Airport.
Iberia, with Iberia Regional (operated by an independent carrier Air Nostrum), is a part of Iberia Group. In addition to transporting passengers and freight, Iberia Group carries out related activities, such as aircraft maintenance, handling in airports, IT systems and in-flight catering. Iberia Group airlines fly to over 102 destinations in 39 countries. Via code-sharing arrangements with other companies, it offers flights to another 90 destinations.
On 8 April 2010, it was confirmed that British Airways and Iberia had signed an agreement to merge, making the combined operation the third largest commercial airline in the world by revenue. Shareholders of both carriers approved the deal on 29 November 2010. The newly merged company, known as International Airlines Group, was established in January 2011, although both airlines will continue to operate under their current brands.

If You Book with Iberia You May Fly with Vueling & That's OK
If you book a flight in Spain with the Spanish carrier Iberia, you may end up flying with the low cost airline Vueling. Here are some notes on Vueling. 1. You can pay about 16 Euros for priority boarding and you should do that. 2. I recommend getting am XL seat. 16 euros and you get to board early with a lot of space. 3. The overhead bin is fine for rollerboards. 4. If you buy with Iberia's website you will get a confirmation number that you cannot check in online with. I tried a few years back and missed it due to fog. No sign of fog this day, lovely clear skies warm day at both ends. Sat in row 5 on the Iberia A340 is the first row in economy, which was perfect seat for filming. Just in front of the engines. Must say I don't think much of Iberia's A340's on the inside though. No seat back TV's and no complimentary drinks or snacks like on their codeshare partner British Airways. Considering the aircraft is used on 12 hour flights to Latin America and there is no TV's I certainly wouldn't be choosing them for a longhaul flight. But for a 2 hour hop I could manage. This was one of their "Express" flights which fly 3x daily between London Gatwick and Madrid. I was on one of the few that have actually been refurbished which was lucky. Most Iberia Express aircraft are in a plain white livery just with the branding on the side, so nice to have a repainted one. The inside was very nice. Finally managed to get myself onboard the daily Iberia A340 flight between Madrid and London! I tried a few years back and missed it due to fog. No sign of fog this day, lovely clear skies warm day at both ends. Sat in row 5 on the Iberia A340 is the first row in economy, which was perfect seat for filming. Just in front of the engines. Must say I don't think much of Iberia's A340's on the inside though. No seat back TV's and no complimentary drinks or snacks like on their codeshare partner British Airways. Considering the aircraft is used on 12 hour flights to Latin America and there is no TV's I certainly wouldn't be choosing them for a longhaul flight. But for a 2 hour hop I could manage. Some incredible views all the way up to London of northern Spain and the French coast. Then over the Isle Of Wight and southern England then over Central London for our approach into RWY27R. Very smooth main gear touchdown but the nose gear came down with one hell of bump! A surprisingly busy flight couldn't see any empty seats. And a very long 45 second Take Off roll! Quite a turbulent climb to start with as well, made for some great action during the initial climb out.

My first time flying with Iberia. This was one of their "Express" flights which fly 3x daily between London Gatwick and Madrid. I was on one of the few that have actually been refurbished which was lucky. Most Iberia Express aircraft are in a plain white livery just with the branding on the side, so nice to have a repainted one. The inside was very nice. Comfortable, clean and modern cabin with very friendly crew. The only thing I didn't really appreciate was the fact they were playing music during taxi & take off. Which I've never had on any other airline. Yes during boarding and sometimes during approach & landing. But never during take off, so that was slightly annoying. Also notice the pilots announcement. The first time we heard the pilots voice was while we were lining up on RWY26L just about to take off! That was quite unusual aswell! But all in all a nice flight, on time and some beautiful views of the south coast of Britain and the Isle Of Wight before hitting a dull grey area all the way across the Bay of Biscay with high lingering grey cloud. Arrived in Madrid where the temperature was 29 degrees and increasing as the afternoon progressed. Very warm considering its the early part of May. Also look out for what looks like a large fire on the hillside in the Pyrenees, you can see the smoke trailing away from it for miles.
