The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments, which is technically classified as the membranophones. Drums consist of at least one membrane, called a drumhead or drum skin, that is stretched over a shell and struck, either directly with the player's hands, or with a drum stick, to produce sound. There is usually a "resonance head" on the underside of the drum, these are usually tuned to a slightly lower pitch than the top drumhead. Other techniques have been used to cause drums to make sound, such as the thumb roll. Drums are the world's oldest and most ubiquitous musical instruments, and the basic design has remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years.
All types of drums such as timpani for example are always tuned to a certain pitch. Often, several drums, other than timpani drums, can be arranged together to create a drum kit.
Drums are usually played by the hand, or by one or two sticks. In many traditional cultures drums have a symbolic function and are often used in religious ceremonies. Drums are often used in music therapy, especially hand drums, because of their tactile nature and easy use by a wide variety of people.

Plot
Lulu's daddy forces her to practice her violin when all she wants to do is play baseball with the boys. She sneaks out, but manages to get knocked unconscious when a ball hits her on the head. Suddenly, she is in dreamland - or rather, nightmare-land - when an anthropomorphic drum drags her to the Musical Court of Justice. Lulu is put on trial. The judge is a cello. The bailiff is a saxophone. The prosecutor is a clarinet. The complainant is Lulu's poor violin. The jury, ominously, is composed of no one but violins. The charge? "Desertion of her violin!" declares the prosecutor. At first, Lulu does not take the proceedings very seriously. But she soon finds that in a land of walking, talking musical instruments, mistreatment of a violin is a serious offense.

[title credits]::Chorus: # Oh, Lulu! / Little Lulu, Little Lulu, with freckles on your chin, / Always in and out of trouble, but mostly always in. / Using Daddy's necktie for the tail on your kite, / Using Mommy's lipstick for the letters you write. / Though the clock says 7:30, it's really after 10; / Looks like Lulu's been repairing it again. / Though you're wild as any Zulu, / And you're just as hard to tame, / Little Lulu, I love you-lu just the same, the same, / Little Lulu, I love you-lu just the same. #
[first lines]::Tubby: Hey, Lulu! Hey, Lulu, come on. We're gonna have a game.
[last lines]::Catcher: Come on, put 'er here, ol' boy, ol' boy, ol' boy, ol' boy!
You gave me a drum
I forget where it came from
You threw a party
And you asked me to come
I think that it was fun
People were there
You asked me not to stare
I think that I was drunk
