Angus McCoss, exploration director at Tullow Oil has dismissed any chance of a takeover of the London-listed company.
“We’re not for sale,” said McCoss speaking at the Oil & Gas Council’s 2015 Africa Assembly. “We remain strongly committed to delivering value to our shareholders and with our clients, partners and prospects we can achieve that.”
His comment echo those of CEO Aidan Heavey in April, who ruled out a takeover of the company, adding that the involvement of several African governments in its projects would make it too complicated to buy.
Shares in Tullow have fallen over 50% in the past twelve months to £3.3bn and Brent crude’s collapse on the back of a global supply glut means the oil sector is ripe for takeover deals, with cash-rich players targeting smaller firms.
Shell's $70 bn move for BG is the high profile case.

The floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, which will produce and store oil from Ghana’s Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme (TEN) offshore oil fields, has sailed away from Singapore following it's conversion. The vessel departed the Tuas shipyard in Singapore on Saturday 23 January and her voyage to Ghana will see her sail westward across the Indian Ocean before rounding the southern tip of Africa and sailing up the West African coast.

Having lost over 90% since the highs in early 2012, Tullow Oil has shifted its focus from being a pure exploration play to include production assets. This will help when the oil price begins to rise, but before then it has debts to service. Can it go the course and survive?
Tullow oil is a shadow of its former self.
It share price was £15.60 4 years ago and, as the oil price searches out a floor, Tullow recently traded as low as 125pence.
In the period, as its share price fell, the company has been busy reinventing itself, shifting its focus away from exploration and towards increasing production from existing assets.
Like others in the sector, its long term position is under threat from low oil prices, but analysts say that when prices start to recover, assuming Tullow survives the downturn, the company will be able to rely on what are regarded as an enviable array of productive oil fields in Congo, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Gabon and Ghana and potential fields in Kenya and Uganda.
The West African fields have produced the lion's share of Tullow's revenue and will become even more important once the Ghanaian TEN Field comes online later this year, to increase total production by roughly 50%.
The downside is that it has piled on some £3.5bn of debt to reach this position and if the market fails to pick up in time this may yet be the company’s undoing.

The government of Uganda has controversially entered into oil production sharing agreements with Tullow oil for Kanywataba oil prospect and kingfisher. The signing took place this morning at the ministry of energy headquarters.
In what appears to be a total disregard of the parliamentary resolutions and the ongoing court case against parliament, the energy minister Irene Muloni claimed she had received clearance from the President and the Finance & Justice ministries.

Tullow (Irish: An Tulach, meaning "The Mound", formerly Tulach Ó bhFéidhlim) is a town and village in County Carlow, Ireland. It is located on the River Slaney where the N81 road intersects with the R762.
There is a statue of Father John Murphy, one of the leaders of the 1798 Rebellion, who was captured near Tullow and executed in the Market Square on 2 July. There is a small museum with information about this period and other local history.
Saint Patrick's are the GAA club in Tullow who currently compete in the Carlow Senior Football Championship and have been crowned champions on ten occasions. They also compete in the Carlow Intermediate Hurling Championship.
Parkville United who play at Hawkins Lane Tullow compete in the Carlow premier division.
There is quote in Brendan Behan's, Borstal Boy that mentions Tullow: "Littlewood was twenty and married. We thought he was as old as the Hills of Tullow."
The town was at one time connected to the Irish railway network, on a branch line from Naas in County Kildare. Tullow railway station opened on 1 June 1886, closed for passenger and goods traffic in 1947 and finally closed on 1 April 1959.

Tullow Oil To Cut Down On Global Spending To Focus On Kenya, Uganda
Tullow oil has cut down its spending worldwide to focus its energies in Kenya and Uganda. The decision was taken to scale down on its operations in Europe, the Carribean and West Africa in order to dedicate its resources in East Africa. This follows the forecast of lower attention to exploration financing by multinationals due to declining fuel prices on the global market. On Wednesday, the company awarded contracts to 36 companies drawn from Turkana county for the supply of light vehicles, in an initiative aimed at increasing the participation of local businesses within Tullow’s supply chain. -

Tullow oil has announced new oil discoveries at the amosing-1 and ewoi-1 exploration wells in block 10bb onshore Northern Kenya. This latest finding and the recently reported discoveries at Ekales-1 and Agete-1, puts the total estimate of discovered resources in Kenya to over 600 million barrels. It share price was £15.60 4 years ago and, as the oil price searches out a floor, Tullow recently traded as low as 125pence.
In the period, as its share price fell, the company has been busy reinventing itself, shifting its focus away from exploration and towards increasing production from existing assets.
Like others in the sector, its long term position is under threat from low oil prices, but analysts say that when prices start to recover, assuming Tullow survives the downturn, the company will be able to rely on what are regarded as an enviable array of productive oil fields in Congo, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Gabon and Ghana and potential fields in Kenya and Uganda.
The West African fields have produced the lion's share of Tullow's revenue and will become even more important once the Ghanaian TEN Field comes online later this year, to increase total production by roughly 50%.
The downside is that it has piled on some £3.5bn of debt to reach this position and if the market fails to pick up in time this may yet be the company’s undoing.

The document, which is waiting, cabinet approval will address matters such as improving information and services to the diaspora, creating networks and voting. The growing value of the resource that is Kenyans in diaspora has seen greater affinity to boost national income with this input. According to the Central Bank, as at October this year, Diaspora remittances amount to over 86 billion shillings. To this end, the 2-day Kenya Diaspora Conference kicked off on Thursday where various players from government, private sector and diaspora community coming together to interact under the theme 'connect, engage, invest'. The forum, it is hoped, will bring forth greater interaction between those at home and Kenyans abroad so as to get greater participation from what is loosely referred to as the '48th County'

European stocks were mixed on Wednesday, as falling oil prices dragged energy stocks lower and as investors awaited a second day of Congressional testimony by U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen. Energy stocks including Tullow Oil and BG Group were among the biggest decliners in London as oil traded under $50 a barrel. Overall, European markets were relatively calm a day after Greece won a four-month extension of its financial rescue from its euro-zone partners, with corporate news pulling stocks in both directions. In Copenhagen, A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S rallied as investors welcomed its plans to sell its 20% stake in Danske Bank A/S, worth about $5.5 billion as of Wednesday’s close, to focus on shipping and oil. In Paris, Axa rose 3.27% after France’s largest insurer posted a 12% rise in full-year profit to a record €5 billion and announced plans to raise its dividend by 17%, which amounts to 45% of adjusted earnings.

European stocks were mixed on Wednesday, as falling oil prices dragged energy stocks lower and as investors awaited a second day of Congressional testimony by U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen. Energy stocks including Tullow Oil and BG Group were among the biggest decliners in London as oil traded under $50 a barrel. Overall, European markets were relatively calm a day after Greece won a four-month extension of its financial rescue from its euro-zone partners, with corporate news pulling stocks in both directions. In Copenhagen, A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S rallied as investors welcomed its plans to sell its 20% stake in Danske Bank A/S, worth about $5.5 billion as of Wednesday’s close, to focus on shipping and oil. In Paris, Axa rose 3.27% after France’s largest insurer posted a 12% rise in full-year profit to a record €5 billion and announced plans to raise its dividend by 17%, which amounts to 45% of adjusted earnings.

The rebound comes amid an improved tone of trade throughout the region, helped by news that a court rejected a lawsuit intended to block Germany's participation in European Union bailouts. Germany's DAX has advanced 3.0% in its latest showing. BMW, Daimler, and Adidas are top performers there. France's CAC has climbed 2.3%. Of the CAC's 40 components, there isn't a single stock in the red. Renault and EADS are leading the pack with gains of more than 5%. Buying in Britain has fueled the FTSE to a 1.9% gain. Tullow Oil and Lloyds Group (LYG) top the list of leaders. The latest dose of data from the United Kingdom indicated that industrial production slipped 0.2% in July after no change in June.
Overnight action in Asia was broadly positive. That helped Japan's Nikkei put together a 2.0% gain, which makes for a nice rebound from the 2.2% loss that it suffered in the prior session. Nippon Soda, Toho Zinc, and Tokyo Tatemono were the top three performers; each advanced by at least 6%. Kansai Electric was a laggard after it had outperformed in the prior session. In its most recent meeting, Japan's central bank opted to leave its monetary policy plan unchanged. Hong Kong's Hang Seng ascended to a 1.7% gain. China Construction Bank was a primary leader there. Mainland China's Shanghai Composite scored a 1.8% gain. Banks also provided leadership there.

In my previous article on illegal mining in Ghana, I focused on how foreigners especially Chinese have “bought” the local leaders to rob our nation of its resources and pride. Within some weeks after I wrote on the topic, the security officials and the government took a stern look at the practice and caused the arrest and deportation of many foreigners who were involved in mining without a license to operate. During a visit to commission a water project at Kyebi last year, President Mahama remarked, “…excuse me to say, Akyem Abuakwa has turned into the headquarters of galamsey in Ghana. I came here by air and if you see how the land is being destroyed, it saddens me.” The President later apologized on this statement. I strongly believe the Presidents apology was not necessary as it was and is a statement of fact.
As a New Year dawns 2016, I decided to visit some of the towns and Villages specifically Afiasa and Apapam in the Kyebi Area in the Eastern region of Ghana. My expectations had been a reduced case of the destructions and menace of illegal mining activities in the region. It turned out ironically that “aluta continua”. Local men and women were busily excavating land and destroying forest and cocoa farms in search of Gold dusts. I do not intend to discuss the effects of illegal mining in this article but to urge us all to take responsibility of our environment because our natural resources is all we have.
Gold and all minerals in Ghana are precious and need to be mined to support our weakly economic. Of course we cannot sit on Gold and diamond to east sand. Note that in Ghana we are blessed with the prospect of minerals on every part of our land. The question however is that shall we overcome the cost of extraction and damage to the environment on mining in particular place in a particular manner? Simply, is such illegal mining profitable when you consider the damage to the environment?
Kofi Bonsu (actual name withheld) who works as a supervisor for a sponsor to a Galamsey operations remarked “Are you thinking of filling back land and planting trees? No way have you just taken your Gold and leave.” It is clear that there is no such thing as mining license and EPA Permits in their dictionary. This is how the Galamsey operations affect our natural resources.
The Minerals Commission offers license to qualified and responsible mining companies in order to control and guide the operations of mining in the country. It also ensures compliance with Ghana's Mining and Mineral Laws and Regulation through effective monitoring. It is clear that the Mineral Commission is defunct in monitoring the activities of mining operations in Ghana. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Security Services of the country have their due responsibilities.
What ought we to do as individuals. We all have a duty to protect our natural resources. If you have any complaints or suspicious of any mining activity undertaken in your community, Immediately inform the authorities or the Mineral Commissions on hotlines:
