The city center is situated around artificial lakes Binnenalster (Alster interior) and the Außenalster (outer Alster), originating both from the Alster river, but have remained as lakes. The island of Neuwerk and two other islands in the North Sea are also part of Hamburg, located in the National Park Wadden Sea.
