Chogha Zanbil (Persian: چغازنبيل; Elamite: Dur Untash) is an ancient Elamite complex in the Khuzestan province of Iran. It is one of the few existent ziggurats outside of Mesopotamia. It lies approximately 42 km (26 mi) south-southeast of Dezful, 30 km (19 mi) south-east of Susa and 80 km (50 mi) north of Ahvaz.
Chogha in Bakhtiari means "hill". Choga Zanbil means 'basket mound.' It was built about 1250 BC by the king Untash-Napirisha, mainly to honor the great god Inshushinak. Its original name was Dur Untash, which means 'town of Untash', but it is unlikely that many people, besides priests and servants, ever lived there. The complex is protected by three concentric walls which define the main areas of the 'town'. The inner area is wholly taken up with a great ziggurat dedicated to the main god, which was built over an earlier square temple with storage rooms also built by Untash-Napirisha. The middle area holds eleven temples for lesser gods. It is believed that twenty-two temples were originally planned, but the king died before they could be finished, and his successors discontinued the building work. In the outer area are royal palaces, a funerary palace containing five subterranean royal tombs.
Zanbil (Azerbaijani: Zənbil) is a small island in the Caspian Sea off the Bay of Baku, Azerbaijan. It is also known as Duvanni Island.
The name Zanbil is Persian (زنبیل) and means "a big basket". The name "Duvanni" (Дуванный), meaning "money" in Russian, is connected to Stepan Razin.
The island is part of the Baku Archipelago, located in the Ələt (Alat) municipality area, which consists of the following islands: Boyuk Zira, Dash Zira, Qum Island, Zanbil, Sangi-Mugan, Chikil, Qara Su, Khara Zira, Gil, Ignat Dash and a few smaller ones.
The area of Zanbil Island is 0.4 km². Its length is 0.9 km and its maximum width 0.5 km. Zanbil lies 5.5 km (3.4 mi) NW of Xara Zira and the nearest shore of the mainland is about 9.5 km (5.9 mi) to the SW.
There is a 25 m high mud volcano on Zanbil.

It’s an ancient temple which was once one of the most sacred sites for the Elamites. The structure is in the form of an upside down basket and that’s why the locals used to call it Chogha Zanbil meaning a basket-shaped hill.

Create your own video on http://studio.stupeflix.com/?w=1 ! Domes like this are quite common in Khuzestan province. The shape is an architectural trademark of craftsmen of this province. Daniel's shrine, located in Khuzestan, has such a shape. The shrine pictured here, belongs to Imamzadeh Hamzeh, located between Mahshahr and Hendijan. A bust from The National Museum of Iran of Queen Musa, wife of Phraates IV of Parthia, excavated by a French team in Khuzestan in 1939. The ziggurat of Choqa Zanbil in Khuzestan was a magnificent structure of the Iranian Elamite Empire. Ok, I'm freaked out now, not that I was'nt before but. I just found this thread now. For a very long time I have been thinking that the reason for the US being in Iraq was because they were "looking" for some thing. I don't think it has anything to do with oil. It seems that they are looking for something and hav'nt found it. So if they are looking for "something" what is it and how do they know where to look. I first thought they were looking for the Ark of the Covenent, but I later changed my mindset to ancient alien technology. They could be also looking for people with genetic links to the Sumerian King list/tablet. Either way you look at it Iraq is the birtplace of civilization, and if aliens did create us or minipulated our DNA that is where it would have taken place. Iif...
