A long over due trip back to Kefalonia! It had been a few years since I'd been back to visit my family. So after finding cheap flights with Thomas Cook just 2 weeks before the departure date I thought why not and booked it up! Must admit I was rather hoping for one of the new Thomas Cook A321's with the sharklets but was quite pleased to see I would be travelling on the "Egypt, Where it all begins" aircraft. Very busy flight, not many if any empty seats about, lots of families and couples off for a week or two break. We pushed back bang on time, but a long taxi right up to runway 08R meant we weren't airborne until getting on for 6:20. The lighting during take off was just perfect! Couldn't ask for any more, engine was lit up perfectly and with the damp morning moisture still lingering in the air there's some fantastic displays of water vapour forming in the engine and over the wing! Fairly quiet flight once airborne, most people fell asleep missing the stunning views over Europe.

The return flight after my trip to the beautiful Greek island of Kefalonia. Again I was hoping for a new livery A321 with the sharklets but this turned up instead. This might be the last flight I fly on with Thomas Cook in the blue livery so I guess that's something. A beautiful day for flying, mostly clear skies all the way up the Adriatic sea and across Europe creating some incredible views of the scenery, airports and air to air shots of other traffic! The flight actually took off early! I've heard of having the engines started and taxiing a few minutes early. But this flight had the engines started 10 minutes ahead of a scheduled and a short taxi meant we were airborne at least 5mins before our departure time! Very good going. A beautiful departure to the south, straight out over the stunning turquoise waters towards Zakynthos before doing a figure of "8" in the sky and turning back towards the north and passing straight on top of Kefalonia airport. So more views of the islands Capital Argostoli and the beautiful western coast. Routing then took us up the Adriatic along the rugged coastline of Croatia and over the many hundreds of tiny islands dotted along the coastline before crossing into mainland Europe. Over the Swiss border with views of Zurich & Basel airports. Before beginning our descent over northern France for a beautiful clear afternoon arrival at Gatwick.

Another trip on a Thomas Cook A321 and yet again one of the newly refurbished ones had just missed my grip. This was the very first departure from Gatwick Airport of the day at 05:15! The bulk of other departures don't start until about 5:45. So there was no other traffic moving when we departed, taxied straight to the runway and took off into the sunrise without stopping! Beautiful descent and approach into Corfu, along the coastline! The colours of the sea looking absolutely stunning in the morning light. A rather rowdy flight, lots of teens travelling to Kavos and lots of the kids travelling on their family holidays, so the background chatter can't be helped I'm afraid. A rather disappointing experience with Thomas Cook this time, when I arrived at Gatwick I was informed that I was a "Standby" passenger. Meaning that I wasn't guaranteed my seat on-board the aircraft and could potentially be turned away from flying because they had over booked the aircraft. However I stood my ground and was finally given a place on the flight and in the seat I had already paid for and prebooked! If I didn't get on that flight, they said they would rebook me and compensate me for my trouble, but that's not the point. Anyway it didn't come to that and I made it.

Another trip on a Thomas Cook A321 and yet again one of the newly refurbished ones had just missed my grip. This was the very first departure from Gatwick Airport of the day at 05:15! The bulk of other departures don't start until about 5:45. So there was no other traffic moving when we departed, taxied straight to the runway and took off into the sunrise without stopping! Beautiful descent and approach into Corfu, along the coastline! The colours of the sea looking absolutely stunning in the morning light. A rather rowdy flight, lots of teens travelling to Kavos and lots of the kids travelling on their family holidays, so the background chatter can't be helped I'm afraid. A rather disappointing experience with Thomas Cook this time, when I arrived at Gatwick I was informed that I was a "Standby" passenger. Meaning that I wasn't guaranteed my seat on-board the aircraft and could potentially be turned away from flying because they had over booked the aircraft. However I stood my ground and was finally given a place on the flight and in the seat I had already paid for and prebooked! If I didn't get on that flight, they said they would rebook me and compensate me for my trouble, but that's not the point. Anyway it didn't come to that and I made it.

(G-EUXL) Airbus A321-231 Great engine sound departure from Heathrow and a green Scottish arrival into Glasgow international. This was my first flight from Heathrow, great to experience a flight from such a big airport and Terminal 5! Nice condensation build up on the wing and engine on takeoff. To experience the great sound from those IAE engines i recommend watching the whole departure.
A flight video including taxi, takeoff, approach and landing of G-EUXL operating for flight BA1482. It was a great flight with BA once again and a very short journey enroute. Amazing legroom and a smooth comfortable flight. Rather heavy braking on landing but just makes the experience more exciting!
