Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraton_Ngayogyakarta_Hadiningrat is the primary kraton of the Yogyakarta Sultanate. The sultan and the royal court has its traditional seat there. The complex consists of a number of low-lying buildings such as audience halls, museums, and the residences of the sultan and the queen. It is a popular tourist destination. After Sultan Agung, the Sultanate of Mataram was declining due to power struggle within the sultanate. To make things worse, VOC (Dutch East India Company) exploited the power struggle to increase its control. At the peak of the conflict, the Mataram Sultanate was split in two based on the Treaty of Giyanti of February 13, 1755: Yogyakarta Sultanate and Surakarta Sunanate. The Giyanti Treaty mentioned Pangeran Mangkubumi as Sultan of Yogyakarta with the title of Sampeyan Dalem Ingkang Sinuwun Kanjeng Sultan Hamengkubuwono Senopati Ingalaga Abdul Rakhman Sayidin Khalifatullah Panatagama (His Majesty, The Sultan-Carrier for Chief Warrior, Servant and the Most Gracious, Cleric and Caliph that Safeguards the Religion). During the era of Dutch occupation there were two principalities, the Yogyakarta Sultanate (Kasultanan Yogyakarta) and the smaller Pakualaman Duchy / Principality (Kadipaten Pakualaman). The Dutch Colonial Government arranged for the carrying out autonomous self-government, arranged under a political contract. When the Indonesian independence was proclaimed, the rulers, the Sultan of Yogyakarta and Prince of Pakualaman made a declaration they would become part of the Republic of Indonesia. Those two regions were unified to form the Yogyakarta Special Region and the sultan became the Governor of Yogyakarta and the Prince of Pakualaman as the vice-governor; both were responsible to the President of Indonesia. The Special Region of Yogyakarta was created after the independence war ended and legalized on August 3, 1950. In carrying out the local government administration it considers three principles: decentralization, deconcentration and assistance. The provincial government carries out the responsibilities and authorities of the central government, while on other hand carrying out its autonomous responsibilities and authorities. The Regional Government consists of the Head of the Region and the Legislative Assembly of the Region. Such construction guarantees good cooperation between the Head of Region and the Legislative Assembly of Region in order to achieve a sound regional government administration. The Head of the Special Region of Yogyakarta has got responsibility as the Head of the Territory and titled as a Governor. The first Governor was the late Hamengkubuwono IX, Sultan of Yogyakarta and continued by HRH. Paku Alam VIII as acting governor until Hamengkubuwono X ascended in 1998. Unlike the other heads of regions in Indonesia, the governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta has the privilege or special status of not being bound to the period of position nor the requirements and way of appointment. However, in carrying out their duties, they have the same authority and responsibilities. An experience of getting from Jakarta to one of the most successful tourist attraction city in Indonesia, Jogja with PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Indonesian Railways Company). Onboard the Economy Class train but the coaches are not the normal one. These coaches are made by the ministry of transport that is used on certain trains only. The price of taking this train is higher than the cost of normal Economy Class trains. The train features is train no. 112 "Gajah Wong" that serves Jakarta (Pasar Senen) to Jogja (Yogyakarta) station. Semarang, Yogyakarta and Bandung, Java island, Indonesia Travelling to Indonesia was one of our travel wishlists within this year. We have planned for a long time to make our steps on the land of astonishing jawa island. Starting from Kuala Lumpur, we flew straight to Semarang where we began our first chapter travelling around Indonesia. As soon as we reached Semarang, we headed to Semarang's city centre, Simpang Lima for sightseeing and later visited the well known Tugu Muda, Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, Sam Poo Kong Temple, Candi Gedong Songo and Lawang Sewu. In our opinion, despite the huge and quite developed city of Semarang, it has what we called as calm and restful kind of feelings where you might find yourself a bit relax during walking around the city. After few days in Semarang, we took bus heading to Yogyakarta whereby we experienced ourselves the unique essence of Yogyakarta. In Yogyakarta, we went walk for hours along the famous Malioboro street for seightseeing and some merchendise, batik shopping. Later in the evening, we rented motorcycle and headed to Parangtritis beach to witness sunset and other unique activities along the beach including the paragliding. The next day, we went to visit Setumbu hill for sunrise and the Magnificent Candi Borobudur where we witnessed ourselves the incredible ancient architecture. From our side, we liked Yogya a lot as the entire city has an authentic kind of essence and it has a balanced character between the past and the present. To wrap up our stories in Indonesia, we stayed in Bandung for couple of days purposely to visit the Tangkuban Perahu, Pasar Baru, Riau street, Dago street and Kampung Daun. Basically Bandung has lots of attraction however most of the interesting places are far away from the city centre and divided into north, west, east and south side of Bandung. So, we've only managed to tour the north Bandung. Perhaps, next visit will cover the other sides of Bandung. For us, although Bandung is undoubtedly a great place for shoppers, and the city itself has been developed with quite impressive malls, yet you can still reach the pleasing and soothing kind of places around the town of Lembang and the foothills of Mount Tangkuban Parahu. So, It is a great deal for family and newlywed's vacation. Overall, we loved Indonesia a lot during the entire stunning journey and to be honest, it is one of places where I personally felt like home and I can experience the authenticity of the environment, food, culture, tradition and mostly, the people themselves.
