"You know, his holiness is very healthy and very strong. He gets up at 3:30 in the morning and he maintains a schedule, even I, as you say young, cannot keep up with him. So, he will live very long and I believe we will see that he will return to Tibet during his lifetime."
5. Sangay during interview
6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Lobsang Sangay, Tibetan Prime Minister-elect:
"My standing for the election will send a message to Beijing - that their calculation, at least some of them, are calculating that with the passing away of the elder generation, the Tibetan movement will fizzle out and the Tibetan government will disappear. That will not happen. The hard work of the elder generation and the contribution that they have made will always be remembered, and celebrated by the younger generation and we will do our best to continue our struggle, as long as it takes till freedom is restored in Tibet and the dignity and identity of the Tibetan people are respected."
7. Sangay being greeted by the Special Envoy of the Dalai Lama Lodi Gyari
STORYLINE:
The new prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile says he will take a more activist role in telling the story of the repression of the Tibetan by the Beijing government.
Officials announced on Wednesday from Dharmsala that 43 year-old Lobsang Sangay had won election as the next prime minister from votes the Tibetans-in-exile community.
In a Washington interview on Wednesday, Lobsang Sangay also said he expects that the Dalai Lama will live long enough to return to Tibet.
The 75-year-old Dalai Lama, who is worshipped as a near deity by many of his followers, has long said he wanted to give up his political role while remaining the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists.
The shift to a more powerful elected leader is widely seen as a way to prepare for the Dalai Lama's eventual death.
The political change - yet to be written into the community's constitution - reverses centuries of tradition in which the top monk also guided the Tibetan government.
The Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, has said that he believes leaders should be elected, and has suggested that negotiations with Beijing - which has vilified him for his vocal resistance to China's rule over Tibet - would be less complicated under another Tibetan figurehead.
Sangay, a senior fellow at Harvard Law School with extensive experience in international law and conflict resolution, won the election with 55 percent of the votes cast by tens of thousands of Tibetans around the world, chief election commissioner Jamphel Choesang said in the north Indian town of Dharmsala, where the exile government is based.
Sangay says he will travel to Dharmsala, India in May and stay for several months, then return to Boston to pack and then return to Dharmsala to set up a cabinet.

STORYLINE :
Members of the Tibetan government in-exile observed a day-long hunger strike in New Delhi on Wednesday to protest against the Chinese crackdown in Tibet.
At the strike Karma Choephel, the speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile alleged that the Chinese government was using the Dalai Lama's reported threat of resignation as propaganda to quell the on-going demonstrations and uprising in Tibet.
"The Chinese are using this as a propaganda to quell the on-going demonstrations and uprising in Tibet saying that if you don't stop then the Dalai Lama will resign,'' Choephel said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Dalai Lama said that he will resign as leader of Tibet's government-in-exile if violence committed by Tibetans in his homeland spirals out of control.
While the situation inside Tibet remained unclear, much of last week's violence appeared to have been committed by Tibetans - a fact that clearly troubled the 72-year-old leader, who has long called for Tibetans to have significant autonomy within China.
An aide later clarified that the Dalai Lama meant he would step down as the political leader - not as the supreme religious leader of all Tibetan Buddhists.
The turmoil in Tibet has also laid bare Tibetans' inability to capitalise on the intense exposure to their cause or to extract concessions from China.
