Steven Tyler (born Steven Victor Tallarico; March 26, 1948) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and former television music competition judge, best known as the frontman of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith, in which he also plays the harmonica, and occasional piano and percussion. He is known as the "Demon of Screamin' due to his high screams and his wide vocal range. He is also known for his on-stage acrobatics.
During his high-energy performances, he usually dresses in bright, colorful outfits with his trademark scarves hanging from his microphone stand. In the 1970s, Tyler rose to prominence as the frontman of Aerosmith, which released such milestone hard rock albums as Toys in the Attic and Rocks. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Tyler had a heavy drug and alcohol addiction, and the band's popularity waned. He completed drug rehabilitation in 1986 and subsequently maintained sobriety for over 20 years but had a relapse with prescription painkillers in the late 2000s, for which he successfully received treatment in 2009. Ever since Aerosmith launched its comeback in the late 1980s and early 1990s with the albums Permanent Vacation, Pump, and Get a Grip, Tyler has remained a relevant rock icon and has embarked on several solo endeavors including guest appearances on other artists' music, film and TV roles (including as a judge on American Idol), authoring a bestselling book, and solo work (including a Top 40 hit single in 2011). However, he has continued to record music and perform with Aerosmith, after more than 43 years in the band. The band's latest album, Music from Another Dimension!, was released in November 2012.
Tyler is included among Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers. He was ranked 3rd on Hit Parader's Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time. In 2001, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Aerosmith, and in 2013, Tyler and his songwriting partner Joe Perry received the ASCAP Founders Award and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

In May 2014, Seinabo Sey released her second single, "Hard Time".

“We must declare war on war, so the outcome will be peace upon peace.”
It's as if Obama is trying to reconcile his peace prize with his legacy of war by arguing that the U.S. is not at a traditional war (because the U.S. is always at war) but just as we go to yet another war, we're actually at a war against war in the name of peace.
So...war is peace.

Letters from Burma - an unforgettable collection from the Nobel Peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi In these astonishing letters, Aung San Suu Kyi reaches out beyond Burma's borders to paint for her readers a vivid and poignant picture of her native land. Here she celebrates the courageous army officers, academics, actors and everyday people who have supported the National League for Democracy, often at great risk to their own lives. She reveals the impact of political decisions on the people of Burma, from the terrible cost to the children of imprisoned dissidents - allowed to see their parents for only fifteen minutes every fortnight - to the effect of inflation on the national diet and of state repression on traditions of hospitality. She also evokes the beauty of the country's seasons and scenery, customs and festivities that remain so close to her heart. Through these remarkable letters, the reader catches a glimpse of exactly what is at stake as Suu Kyi fights on for freedom in Burma, and of the love for her homeland that sustains her non-violent battle. Includes an introduction from Fergal Keane 'Aung San Suu Kyi has become a global symbol of peaceful resistance, courage and apparently endless endurance' Guardian 'A real hero in an age of phony phone-in celebrity, which hands out that title freely to the most spoiled and underqualified' Bono, Time Aung San Suu Kyi is the leader of Burma's National League for Democracy. She was placed under house arrest in Rangoon in 1989, where she remained for almost 15 of the 21 years until her release in 2010, becoming one of the world's most prominent political prisoners. She is also the author of the collection of writings Freedom from Fear.

After his mysterious death, Dag Hammarskjöld was described by John F. Kennedy as the "greatest statesman of our century." Second secretary-general of the United Nations (1953 - 61), he is the only person to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize posthumously. Through extensive research in little explored archives and personal correspondence, Roger Lipsey has produced the definitive biography of Dag Hammarskjöld. Hammarskjöld: A Life provides vivid new insights into the life and mind of a truly great individual. Hammarskjöld the statesman and Hammarskjöld the author of the classic spiritual journal Markings meet in this new biography - and the reader will meet them both in these pages. A towering mid-twentieth-century figure, Hammarskjöld speaks directly to our time.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta was the founder of the Missionaries ofCharity and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, but her story is so much moreremarkable. From her childhood in the Balkans to her work in India, from attendingthe victims of war-torn Beirut to pleading with George Bush and Saddam Husseinto choose peace over war, Mother Teresa was driven by a mighty faith. Newly revised and updated, this edition includes a personal insight into thebeatification and continuing process of canonization for Mother Teresa, theongoing work of the Missionaries of Charity, and her “dark night of the soul.” Mother Teresa consistently claimed that she was simply responding to Christ’sboundless love for her and for all of humanity, bringing to the world a great lessonin joyful and selfless love. In this book, Jay Nordlinger gives a history of what the subtitle calls the most famous and controversial prize in the world.” The Nobel Peace Prize, like the other Nobel prizes, began in 1901. So we have a neat, sweeping history of the 20th century, and about a decade beyond. The Nobel prize involves a first world war, a second world war, a cold war, a terror war, and more. It contends with many of the key issues of modern times, and of life itself. It also presents a parade of interesting peoplemore than a hundred laureates, not a dullard in the bunch. Some of these laureates have been historic statesmen, such as Roosevelt (Teddy) and Mandela. Some have been heroes or saints, such as Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa. Some belong in other categorieswhere would you place Arafat? Controversies also swirl around the awards to Kissinger, Gorbachev, Gore, and Obama, to name just a handful.Probably no figure in this book is more interesting than a non-laureate: Alfred Nobel, the Swedish scientist and entrepreneur who started the prizes. The book also addresses missing laureates,” people who did not win the peace prize but might have, or should have (Gandhi?).Peace, They Say is enlightening and enriching, and sometimes even fun. It has its opinions, but it also provides what is necessary for readers to form their own opinions. What is peace, anyway? All these people who have been crowned champions of peace,” and the world’s foremostshould they have been? Such is the stuff this book is made on.

Ray of Hope
Oh my Lord, it's time to pray
When the new sun shines, let's make hay
So save my land from desert's stay
Call the ocean's salt to melt away
And bless streams with love's sway
Provide my foe and friends a bloodless day
Invite boys and girls for peace to pray, O Ye
Then send a ray of hope for a new way

Chinese President Xi Jinping, upon the invitation of the Queen Elizabeth II, will meet both the Queen and the British Prime Minister David Cameron with whom he is expected to talk the imprisoned Nobel Prize winner who was arrested for organising a petition urging for an end to one-party rule.
During the visit on Tuesday, the Queen will hold a welcoming ceremony for the president, and invite him for lunch and a formal dinner.
Xi will also hold talks with Prime Minister David Cameron and meet with parliamentary members and leaders of opposition parties prior to a speech detailing China's domestic and foreign policies.
Chinese President is criticised by several human rights organisations for 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiabo’s imprisonment while Cameron has also been criticized by activists for turning a blind eye to China’s human right abuses.
Weeks before Xi Jinping’s visit to Britain, twelve Nobel Peace Prize winners had called on British Prime Minister David Cameron to call China publicly for the release of their fellow laureate, Liu Xiaobo and his wife.
Led by South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, they wrote to Cameron on September to force him to release the couple.
The letter read, "We believe that unless leaders like you take urgent action, both publicly and privately, that China will continue to believe it can act with impunity and without consequence for its behavior."
2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo, who is now 59, involved in the 1989 Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests crushed by the Chinese army and sentenced to 11 years in 2009 on charges for organizing a petition for an end to one-party rule.

(Reuters) - Twelve Nobel Peace Prize winners have called on Prime Minister David Cameron to call publicly for the release of their fellow laureate, Liu Xiaobo, and his wife Liu Xia during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to London this week.
The laureates, led by South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, wrote to Cameron on Sept. 2 to urge him to press the couple's case, U.S. advocacy group Freedom Now said.
"We believe that unless leaders like you take urgent action, both publicly and privately, that China will continue to believe it can act with impunity and without consequence for its behaviour,” a text of the letter released by Freedom Now said.
The laureates made a similar call to President Barack Obama ahead of Xi's visit to Washington last month. Obama did not bring up the issue in public with Xi.
The Nobel laureates said Liu Xia's health had declined "precipitously" in the past year and she should be allowed to travel abroad for medical care as she had requested.
They said that although the Chinese government said she was under no legal restriction, her apartment was under 24-hour police supervision and her movements were completely restricted.
They said Liu Xia had a heart attack in 2014, suffered from severe back pain, depression and anxiety. They said doctors had warned that her mental health problems would worsen unless there was a change in her living conditions.

The United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF; is a United Nations Program headquartered in New York City that provides long-term humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. It is one of the members of the United Nations Development Group and its Executive Committee.
UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II. Ludwik Rajchman, a Polish bacteriologist, is regarded as the founder of UNICEF and was its first chairman from 1946 to 1950. In 1953, UNICEF became a permanent part of the United Nations System and its name was shortened from the original United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund but it has continued to be known by the popular acronym based on this previous title.
UNICEF relies on contributions from governments and private donors, UNICEF's total income for 2008 was $3,372,540,239. Governments contribute two thirds of the organization's resources; private groups and some 6 million individuals contribute the rest through the National Committees. It is estimated that 91.8% of their revenue is distributed to Program Services.[5] UNICEF's programs emphasize developing community-level services to promote the health and well-being of children. UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965 and the Prince of Asturias Award of Concord in 2006.

"The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined" is a 2011 book by Steven Pinker, arguing that violence in the world has declined both in the long run and in the short. The phrase "the better angels of our nature" stems from US President Lincoln's first inaugural address. Pinker uses the phrase as a metaphor for four human motivations that, he writes, can "orient us away from violence and towards cooperation and altruism," namely: empathy, self-control, the "moral sense," and reason. Moderated by Tom Crann, host of All Things Considered on MPR News.
