successful activities of the 2nd fleet of the Japanese Combined fleet
the Japanese combined fleet overwhelmingly won the battle of Tsushima but there were some turning points before and during the battle, when the 2nd fleet did the distinguished services.
1) shimamura commander of the 2nd squadron and Fujiki chief staff
May 14th 1905, the Russian fleet left Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. the Combined fleet got the information that the Russian passed through Bashi Channel on May 19, but after that, their location was not caught any longer. (in fact, the Russian fleet delayed their voyage speed by coal supplies and artillery live-fire training.)
May 24 th:
the combined fleet considered.
why the Russian fleet are not found?
they must have headed to Tsugaru Strait through the Pacific.
they were about to decide that they will move to north in order to wait for the Russian fleet, judging that the Russians will most probably go to Vladivostok through Tsugaru Strait.
May 25th in the morning, the final meeting at the flagship Mikasa,
Shimamura and Fujiki of the 2nd fleet argued that the Russians would certainly come to Tsushima Strait.
they strongly objected against 'Tsugaru Strait' opinion of the top staffs, saying that the Russians or any others will not choose a detour under suffering of the unprecedented long voyage.
as a result, issuing the command of 'moving to north' was postponed for one day (until 26th noon), waiting for further information.

it was really a close thing.

suddenly the Russian flagship Suvorov steered to north. Togo and his first fleet followed her.
but, the 2nd fleet didn't. the staff Sato saw that it was the damage of her helm because no signal flag was put up in Suvorov.
Chief Commander Kamimura, on his own judgement, ordered his fleet to chase the rest of the Russian fleet heading southeast, with their cruiser's high speed.
with only 5 armoured cruisers, they bravely challenged Russian battleships and at close quarters gave them severe damages.
the head Borodino, avoiding further battle, steered to north and the rest followed.
at that time Togo and the first fleet ceased pursuing Suvorov and were on their way to south.
as a result, a pincer attack occurred. this is lucky for Japan.
the Russian fleet were almost destroyed.
the 2nd fleet are awesome. It may be said that they led Japan to the victory.
in addition
at night, Japanese destroyers and torpedo boats fiercely attacked the Russians. they closed in bravely and resolutely on remaining damaged battleships and armoured cruisers, which were destroyed (later scuttled) and sunk.

The Battle of Tsushima, commonly known as the "Sea of Japan Naval Battle" in Japan and the "Battle of Tsushima Strait", was the major naval battle fought between Russia and Japan during the Russo-Japanese War. This was naval history's only decisive sea battle fought by modern steel battleship fleets, the first naval battle in which wireless telegraphy played a critically important role, and has been characterized as the "dying echo of the old era -- for the last time in the history of naval warfare ships of the line of a beaten fleet surrendered on the high seas."
It was fought on May 27--28, 1905 (May 14--15 in the Julian calendar then in use in Russia) in the Tsushima Strait between Korea and southern Japan. In this battle the Japanese fleet under Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō destroyed two-thirds of the Russian fleet, under Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky, which had traveled over 18,000 nautical miles (33,000 km) to reach the Far East. In London in 1906, Sir George Sydenham Clarke wrote, "The battle of Tsushima is by far the greatest and the most important naval event since Trafalgar"; decades later, historian Edmund Morris maintained that it remained the greatest naval battle since Trafalgar.
Prior to the Russo-Japanese War, countries constructed their battleships with mixed batteries of mainly 152 mm (6-inch), 203 mm (8-inch), 254 mm (10-inch) and 305 mm (12-inch) guns, with the intent that these battleships fight on the battle line in a close-quarter, decisive fleet action. The Battle of Tsushima demonstrated that battleship speed and big guns with longer ranges were more advantageous in naval battles than mixed batteries of different sizes.

The Battle Of Jutland was the biggest naval battle in history. It was also only the third major fleet action between steel battleships following the battles of the Yellow Sea and Tsushima during the Russo-Japanese War. The only major fleet engagement of World War I, the Battle of Jutland has been surrounded by controversy ever since. The British public felt Admiral Jellicoe had failed – a reaction rooted in a hundred years of the 'Nelson cult', a conviction that anything short of a Trafalgar-style annihilation was letting the side down. On the 31st of May 1916 – 251 British and German battleships set out to annihilate one another in the North Sea. In a vicious engagement that lasted over 12 hours – 25 huge ships were sunk and 8,600 lives were lost. The German Fleet had sunk more ships and suffered fewer casualties, but the British had forced them to disengage and run for port and were still cruising off Denmark spoiling for a fight. This two-hour special tells the true story of the battle. An international team of marine divers and historians set out to explore the wrecks of the great Dreadnoughts that lie 100 miles from shore and up to 60 metres deep. The dives will at last reveal why the British navy failed to score a decisive victory.

the Japanese combined fleet overwhelmingly won the battle of Tsushima but there were some turning points before and during the battle, when the 2nd fleet did the distinguished services.
1) shimamura commander of the 2nd squadron and Fujiki chief staff
May 14th 1905, the Russian fleet left Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. the Combined fleet got the information that the Russian passed through Bashi Channel on May 19, but after that, their location was not caught any longer. (in fact, the Russian fleet delayed their voyage speed by coal supplies and artillery live-fire training.)
May 24 th:
the combined fleet considered.
why the Russian fleet are not found?
they must have headed to Tsugaru Strait through the Pacific.
they were about to decide that they will move to north in order to wait for the Russian fleet, judging that the Russians will most probably go to Vladivostok through Tsugaru Strait.
May 25th in the morning, the final meeting at the flagship Mikasa,
Shimamura and Fujiki of the 2nd fleet argued that the Russians would certainly come to Tsushima Strait.
they strongly objected against 'Tsugaru Strait' opinion of the top staffs, saying that the Russians or any others will not choose a detour under suffering of the unprecedented long voyage.
as a result, issuing the command of 'moving to north' was postponed for one day (until 26th noon), waiting for further information.

after Togo's turn, the two fleet bombarded fiercely each other, sailing in parallel east-northeast.
Japan shelled precisely and quickly, firing broadsides.

suddenly the Russian flagship Suvorov steered to north. Togo and his first fleet followed her.
but, the 2nd fleet didn't. the staff Sato saw that it was the damage of her helm because no signal flag was put up in Suvorov.
Chief Commander Kamimura, on his own judgement, ordered his fleet to chase the rest of the Russian fleet heading southeast, with their cruiser's high speed.
with only 5 armoured cruisers, they bravely challenged Russian battleships and at close quarters gave them severe damages.
the head Borodino, avoiding further battle, steered to north and the rest followed.
at that time Togo and the first fleet ceased pursuing Suvorov and were on their way to south.
as a result, a pincer attack occurred. this is lucky for Japan.
the Russian fleet were almost destroyed.
the 2nd fleet are awesome. It may be said that they led Japan to the victory.
in addition
at night, Japanese destroyers and torpedo boats fiercely attacked the Russians. they closed in bravely and resolutely on remaining damaged battleships and armoured cruisers, which were destroyed (later scuttled) and sunk.

The Battle Of Jutland was the biggest naval battle in history. It was also only the third major fleet action between steel battleships following the battles of the Yellow Sea and Tsushima during the Russo-Japanese War. The only major fleet engagement of World War I, the Battle of Jutland has been surrounded by controversy ever since. The British public felt Admiral Jellicoe had failed – a reaction rooted in a hundred years of the 'Nelson cult', a conviction that anything short of a Trafalgar-style annihilation was letting the side down. On the 31st of May 1916 – 251 British and German battleships set out to annihilate one another in the North Sea. In a vicious engagement that lasted over 12 hours – 25 huge ships were sunk and 8,600 lives were lost. The German Fleet had sunk more ships and suffered fewer casualties, but the British had forced them to disengage and run for port and were still cruising off Denmark spoiling for a fight. This two-hour special tells the true story of the battle. An international team of marine divers and historians set out to explore the wrecks of the great Dreadnoughts that lie 100 miles from shore and up to 60 metres deep. The dives will at last reveal why the British navy failed to score a decisive victory.

The Battle of Tsushima (Japanese: 対馬海戦, tsushima-kaisen, Russian: Цусимское сражение, Tsusimskoye srazheniye), commonly known as the Sea of Japan Naval Battle (Japanese: 日本海海戦, nihonkai-kaisen) in Japan and the Battle of Tsushima Strait elsewhere, was the last and most decisive sea battle of the Russo-Japanese War of 19041905. It was fought on May 2728, 1905 (May 1415 in the Julian calendar then in use in Russia) in the Tsushima Strait. In this battle the Japanese fleet under Admiral Heihachiro Togo destroyed two-thirds of the Russian fleet under Admiral Zinovy Rozhestvensky. Historian Edmund Morris calls it the greatest naval battle since Trafalgar.[1] It was the largest naval engagement of the pre-dreadnought battleship era.

It was also the lead attack Battleship during the Battle of Tsushima Strait, where the Japanese Imperial Fleet defeated and destroyed most of the Russian Baltic Fleet (under the command of Admiral Rojestvensky). The Battle of Tsushima is also referred as the Battle of the Sea Of Japan. The victory established Japan as a world power and also marked the beginning of the decline of tsarist Russia and Nicholas II.
This video is of a really neat model simulation on display in the middle deck depicting the Battle of Tsushima. Sorry for the quality of the video (my digital camera can't zoom for video),but if you look towards of the bottom of the screen, you'll see the Russian Baltic fleet. At the top of the screen you will find the Imperial Japanese Fleet, commanded by Admiral Togo. You can also see the famous "Togo turn" during this simulation where Togo "crosses the T" and eventually destroys most of the Russian Baltic fleet before they could make it to Vladivostok port. This video doesn't do this nifty display justice. If you look closely, you can see little flashes of light emitted by each minature ship, which represents them firing their guns and taking hits.
