Virginia (i/vərˈdʒɪnjə/ vər-JIN-yə, UK /vərˈdʒɪniə/ vər-JIN-ee-ə), officially the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a state located in the South Atlantic region of the United States. Virginia is nicknamed the "Old Dominion" due to its status as the first colonial possession established in mainland British America, and "Mother of Presidents" because eight U.S. presidents were born there, more than any other state. The geography and climate of the Commonwealth are shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay, which provide habitat for much of its flora and fauna. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond; Virginia Beach is the most populous city, and Fairfax County is the most populous political subdivision. The Commonwealth's estimated population as of 2014 is over 8.3 million.
The area's history begins with several indigenous groups, including the Powhatan. In 1607 the London Company established the Colony of Virginia as the first permanent New World English colony. Slave labor and the land acquired from displaced Native American tribes each played a significant role in the colony's early politics and plantation economy. Virginia was one of the 13 Colonies in the American Revolution and joined the Confederacy in the American Civil War, during which Richmond was made the Confederate capital and Virginia's northwestern counties seceded to form the state of West Virginia. Although the Commonwealth was under one-party rule for nearly a century following Reconstruction, both major national parties are competitive in modern Virginia.
"Old Dan Tucker", also known as "Ole Dan Tucker", "Dan Tucker", and other variants, is a popular American song. Its origins remain obscure; the tune may have come from oral tradition, and the words may have been written by songwriter and performer Dan Emmett. The blackface troupe the Virginia Minstrels popularized "Old Dan Tucker" in 1843, and it quickly became a minstrel hit, behind only "Miss Lucy Long" and "Mary Blane" in popularity during the antebellum period. "Old Dan Tucker" entered the folk vernacular around the same time. Today it is a bluegrass and country music standard. It is no. 390 in the Roud Folk Song Index.
The first sheet music edition of "Old Dan Tucker", published in 1843, is a song of boasts and nonsense in the vein of previous minstrel hits such as "Jump Jim Crow" and "Gumbo Chaff". In exaggerated Black Vernacular English, the lyrics tell of Dan Tucker's exploits in a strange town, where he fights, gets drunk, overeats, and breaks other social taboos. Minstrel troupes freely added and removed verses, and folk singers have since added hundreds more. Parodies and political versions are also known.
Daniel Tucker (1740–1818) was an American Methodist minister, farmer and ferryman.

Leæther Strip is a Danish musical project founded on January 13, 1988 by Claus Larsen. Its influence has been most felt in the electronic body music and electro-industrial genres. Leæther Strip was one of the earliest and most prominent acts on Germany's now defunct Zoth Ommog record label. For distribution outside of Europe, the music has been licensed to the U.S. labels Cleopatra Records and Metropolis Records. After the demise of Zoth Ommog in 1999, Larsen signed to Bloodline Records, which only released a single before also going out of business. In 2005 Leæther Strip signed with the Belgian based label Alfa Matrix. On June 3, 2011, Larsen announced his split from Alfa Matrix in order to self release future material.
According to founder Claus Larsen, Leæther Strip is, and always will be, only him. Larsen was born on November 13, 1967 in Aalborg, Denmark. He first released music under the name of Leæther Strip in 1989. However, his 1995 release G.A.W.M.U.S. (Getting Away With Murder U. S.) included two early demos from 1982 and 1984, with the latter forming the unknown beginning of the band according to an interview conducted with Claus Larsen. In 1991, Larsen created a side-project called Klute in which he also remained the sole member.

"Carry Me Back to Old Virginny" is a song which was written by James A. Bland (1854 -- 1911), an African American minstrel who wrote over 700 folk songs. RARE OLDIES VIDEO FROM THE FILM " STORMY WEATHER " WITH MR BILL ROBINSON ! Bill Bojangles Robinson (May 25, 1878 November 25, 1949) was an American tap dancer and actor of stage and film. Robinson was born in Richmond, Virginia to Maxwell, a machine-shop worker, and Maria Robinson, a choir singer. He was raised by his grandmother after both parents died when he was an infant—his father from chronic heart disease, and his mother from natural causes. Details of Robinson's early life are known only through legend, much of it perpetuated by Bill Robinson himself. He claims he was christened "Luther"—a name he did not like. He suggested to his younger brother Bill that they should exchange names. When Bill objected, Luther applied his fists, and the exchange was made. At the age of six, Robins...

Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the United States. It is an independent city and not part of any county. Richmond is the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and the Greater Richmond area. Geographically, Richmond is located at the fall line of the James River, 44 miles (71 km) west of Williamsburg, 66 miles (106 km) east of Charlottesville, and 98 miles (158 km) south of Washington, D.C. Surrounded by Henrico and Chesterfield counties, the city is located at the intersections of Interstate 95 and Interstate 64, and encircled by Interstate 295 and Virginia State Route 288. The Hunt, Maasai Mara, Kenya, November 5, 2011. We left our lodge early this morning to catch some of the activity that occurs from just before sunset to just after sunrise. We were lucky to see a lioness on the hunt. What was amazing to me was how she completely ignored the safari vehicles that were around her. We had seen this before with a leopard on the Serengeti. We were just part of the landscape. However, our guides told us that attitude would quickly change if anyone chose to leave their vehicles. Hence the prohibition on people leaving their vehicles while in the park. I recorded this hunt for nearly half an hour, and boiled it down to the four-and-a-half minutes you see here. As all good hunters, this lion was extremely patient, and as you can see, very intense and all busine...
Re-Membering Our Prodigals Rev. Mike Lamson May 6, 2012 Thank you. Wow, what a warm welcome. It’s an amazing feeling to be up here and see this. When I was asked to give the sermon by our senior pastor, I realized as I thought about it that this will be the fifth sermon I’ve ever given in my life. Can you imagine? I’ve always been the kind of person who looks for the talents that people have, and I want to support other people in bringing out those talents. So it was quite a shock for me when I realized I’m going to be the one up at this podium this time. Good morning and welcome to Lovin’Life Ministries at the beautiful Manhattan Center in New York City. I must say that things look a lot different from up here. I think all of you should try this sometime. I want to thank everyone from...

Game drives into the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, October 26-28, 2011. Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Crater Highlands of Tanzania, west of Arusha. This video looks at the wildlife occupying the Ngorongoro Crater, the caldera of a volcano that exploded 3 million years ago. The crater is 600 metres (2000 ft.) deep and about 32 km (20 mi.) across. The wildlife are somewhat isolated from the outside by the steep walls, but some do leave, especially some of the wildebeest during the wet season (not all wildebeest participate in the Great Migration). We were there at the start of the short-rain season that precedes the wet season. The landscape was still quite dry but occasional rain showers (short-rain) were starting to green the vegetation. Game drives into the Tarangire N.P., Tanzania, October 30-31, 2011. This park is known for its elephant herds. In this video, I show some of the amazing elephant behavior we observed: a mother elephant and her 2-year old find and tear out roots in the ground--demonstrating the versatility of their trunks; the feeding behavior of the elephants; the destruction the elephants cause to trees, which is a problem with the increasing size of the herds in these parks. The trees with the big trunks are the baobab, which has evolved to resist elephant destructive behavior. The video also captures some images of yet more sleeping lions, and banded mongoose. Game drives into the Maasai Mara, Kenya, November 3-6, 2011. The Maasai Mara is located in southwest Kenya and is an extension of the Serengeti in Tanzania. However, the terrain in the Mara is more rolling hills with small groups of trees and shrubs. We toured here after the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebras had already left for the southern Serengeti (where we caught the tail end of the migration when we were on the Serengeti, the week before) where they spend the rainy season and give birth to their young. However, we still ran into wildebeest and zebra in the Mara. It turns our that not all these animals participate in the migration. Many herds remain in the Mara to give birth and exploit the vegetative growth during the rainy season there--which is a good thing for the predato...

The language of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn made for its controversial condition during its first year on the shelves and into the modern world of literature. However, Hearn continues by explaining that "the reticent Howells found nothing in the proofs of Huckleberry Finn so offensive that it needed to be struck out." Much of modern scholarship of Huckleb...
