An official film on the need for public housing in Hackney and its provision.
The film documents slum clearing and re-housing by the Council of the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney, in 1935. Initially concentrating on the conditions of the slums, the film goes on to show the rejuvenation to the area made by the new housing sites that were built by Bethnal Green Housing Association.
The film opens with council inspectors taking measurements on a residential street. An extensive sequence captueres the slums exteriors, rows of narrow terraced housing, and moving inside the squalid and cramped conditions are illustrated by inspectors, who demonstrate the tiny dimensions of the properties. The residents are shown with one particular shot capturing a boy in bed infested with bugs.
A Cyanide Fumigation Chamber at Hackney's Disinfecting Station follows. There are views of a trailer of Hackney residents' possessions being backed into the cyanide fumigation chamber at the disinfecting station (described as the first of its kind to be built in England).
The final sequence shows the new housing sites.
This film is from the Hackney Archives. (The full catalogue record for this film, LSA0323, is available at www.londonsscreenarchives.org.uk.)

On appeal from the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) (England and Wales)
These linked appeals considered a number of issues related to the proper test a local authority should apply when assessing whether a homeless person is "vulnerable" for the purposes of the Housing Act 1996, and therefore in priority need of housing.
The Supreme Court dismisses the First Appellant’s appeal by a majority of 4:1. The Court unanimously allows the Second Appellant’s appeal and dismisses the Third Appellant’s appeal.

Dignity Alliance Asks: Who is YOUR Council?
Rob B gives a sobering presentation to New Horizons Saint Annes on the 29th of June 2015.
With evidence from Wigan Council, Rob B will shows that ALL our councils are changing from Borough Councils to corporate entities for profit. We hear startling revelations from Rob B who has uncovered sinister re-branding and confusing corporate multiple personalities using incorrect and inaccurate documentation to summons, use courts to fine people and in some cases repossess their homes.
A sobering presentation and a must for all council tax payers!
Who and exactly what IS Wigan Council, and Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, and Wigan Borough Council, and The Wigan Borough Council, and the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan Council...etc?
This is a question that has been vexing a number of local people and has been subject to investigation and challenge for four years now. Wigan Council still point blank refuses to formally prove to us their legal identity, legal capacity, and evidence of the ‘authority’ they claim they possess. WHY?
In this presentation, Rob B presents the personal story behind the newspaper investigation. Evidence is be shown. Explanations are provided. Questions are asked. The answers/responses will horrify those of you who think We, The People, are still in charge and the ‘Council’ is our servant.
No, it isn’t.
You must now serve the ‘Council’!.... or so they would have us believe.
Can we trust our local courts to dispense justice, rather than be the puppet of a new unaccountable local government regime? Rob will provide the facts so we can draw our own conclusions.
The problem would appear to be that the guys behind all this think they are above the Law and that they think they ARE the Law. We have to take the advice of Eric Pickles MP and Minister for Local Government and Communities, when he stated that in matters of local government corruption it is up to the electorate and taxpayers to sort it out.
This is it! We are! ...and we have a national and international audience now watching us!
No-one in central government is there to help us. There is no MP we can turn to. No government department going to save the day. The law industry and judicial process have shown their colours. At the end of the day when there is no-one else to turn to, you have to do it yourself.
This presentation will leave all decent and honest people outraged. Where has freedom and accountability gone? Is this new privatised and secretive corporate government really what we fought two world wars to achieve, or was it exactly what we were fighting to defend against?
To sit and do nothing is not an option.

Greenbooth Reservoir is a reservoir to the north of Heywood and close to Norden in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, within Greater Manchester, England.
In 1846, Heywood Waterworks Company finished constructing the Naden Reservoirs (Lower Naden, Middle Naden and Higher Naden) in the valley above the village of Greenbooth. By the 1950s, the village consisted of around 80 cottages, a sweet shop, a Co-op store and a school. There was also a woollen mill.[1]
In 1958, Heywood and Middleton Water Board decided that another reservoir was needed to supply water to the growing population of Rochdale and started construction of Greenbooth Reservoir that same year. It took over two years to build, with the village abandoned, mostly demolished and then submerged. The reservoir was completed in 1961 and officially opened in August 1965.[2]
The only visible reminder of Greenbooth village today is a plaque on the side of the reservoir dam wall which reads: "This tablet commemorates the village of Greenbooth, the site of which is submerged beneath the waters of this reservoir."[3]
The four reservoirs are in a peaceful area for a country walk with good views of Manchester in the distance. Some of the wind turbines of Scout Moor Wind Farm are also visible from the surrounding paths.
