Welcome to a little spontaneous project that I decided to take up. I was sitting at work today and the question came up... "How do we make the HR Derby better?" Then it hit me! Triple Play Baseball 2001 Intro (PLAYSTATION 2)
Triple Play was a series of computer and video games based on Major League Baseball, published by EA Sports until their replacement by the MVP Baseball in 2003.
Most video game reviewers, including GameSpot, stated that other simulations (for example, Sega's version) were superior to Triple Play, and its sales were lower; therefore, EA Sports decided to move in a new direction, beginning with the

A single game of Backyard Baseball 2001. I went for the home team this time, so that meant no bottom of the sixth, thus making this a little shorter than my gameplay for the original game.
I used to like the original Backyard Baseball more, but now that I play this again, I take that back. I still dislike the pros, but this game improved in way more areas besides just acquiring the MLB license (whether that's an improvement or not is up to you). First off, Season Play is WAY more tolerable in this game than it is in the original. Season Play in the original had you playing on the exact same field for the entire 14-game season, with the same generic kids on every team. Here, you now have home fields for every team, and there are Backyard Kids for some of the positions. It's a lot nicer that way and makes it less repetitive. Another minor thing they improved on was fouling - in the original, as long as a foul didn't go behind the player, we had to waste time going to the field view and wait for it to bounce, even if it was obvious no one was catching it. Here, it almost never goes into the field view for fouls, and that's a lot nicer. We can also choose a custom player in this game, and teams are now two-color instead of one. Overall, this game is a lot more enjoyable than the original, and it ended up being a lot better than I remembered. I was pleasantly surprised when I played this game again after so many years, and if you ever see a comment of mine that says the original was better, know that I now take that back.

(terrible screaming lady in crowds) commentator volume crowd volume and many other different settings. Hitting is super easy with arrow keys as is pitching. The replay value of this game is high, no 2 games are the same, some can be dead boring like 2-1 outcomes and others can make your palms sweat. I still have yet to learn how to manage team switch pitchers out or pick off base stealing. Also many gameplay options as well.

Now for those people who shouted "YOU COULD'VE PICK DAT GUY", pro's aren't that great compared to the Backyard Kids and you should use only one, depending on the player.
Yeah I sucked, but at least I won 6-0.

New York Yankees 2 at Arizona Diamondbacks 3, F -- A fitting finale to one of the best World Series ever. Surviving two stunning losses in Games 4 and 5, the Diamondbacks found their own late-inning magic in the person of Luis Gonzalez. It began with Hall-of-Fame-bound starters Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling trading zeros through six. Schilling was strong on only two days rest, but left trailing 2-1 in the 8th after an Alfonso Soriano solo HR. Out of the bullpen came Game 5 starter Miguel Batista to face one batter; then manager Bob Brenly made the gutsy call to Randy Johnson -- the Game 6 starter just the night before -- for his second-ever postseason relief appearance. The Big Unit was perfect for 1.1, but all seemed on track for NY as they summoned "automatic" closer Mariano Rivera to hold the one-run lead. Rivera was riding a string of 23 consecutive postseason saves and seemed as invincible as they come. Then, in events as almost as otherworldly as the rain that fell on them in the desert, Mo proved human... and the D-backs became the youngest franchise to win a title on Gonzalez' dramatic game-winning line drive.

As coach, you pick from either the 30 fictitious Backyard Kits, 31 real major league players portrayed as kids, or both. Pick a Backyard Sports team or create your own, or pick from 30 licensed MLB teams (with uniforms and logos). Play a single game, or an entire season (winning pennants and trophies and maybe getting into the Hall of Fame), or even online against other BB2001 players. There's even batting practice, from Tee-ball to Hard difficulties, and a Spectator mode to let two teams duke it out while you watch. And, as with Backyard Sports titles, there are power-ups: pitches like the Big Freeze, Corkscrew, or Elevator.
The game features pretty simple menus, baseball cards of all the players, rosters and schedules, a system of "Good & Bad Days" that alter players' stats (one person may not like Tuesdays, or be much better when a particular person is on the other team, etc). Players do move differently on different fields, slower on sand and faster on turf.

Welcome to a little spontaneous project that I decided to take up. I was sitting at work today and the question came up... "How do we make the HR Derby better?" Then it hit me! The Extreme mode of Big League Challenge in Triple Play 2001 is probably the best version of a HR Derby that I've ever played around with. How has the MLB not done this yet?!

Triple Play was a series of computer and video games based on Major League Baseball, published by EA Sports until their replacement by the MVP Baseball in 2003.
Most video game reviewers, including GameSpot, stated that other simulations (for example, Sega's version) were superior to Triple Play, and its sales were lower; therefore, EA Sports decided to move in a new direction, beginning with the name change to MVP Baseball. Here are the games in the series with the baseball athletes on the cover:
Triple Play 97-Tony Gwynn of the San Diego Padres
Triple Play 98-Brian Jordan of the St. Louis Cardinals
Triple Play 99-Alex Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners
Triple Play 2000-Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs
Triple Play 2001-Mike Piazza of the New York Mets
Triple Play Baseball-Jason Giambi of the Oakland Athletics
Triple Play 2002-Luis Gonzalez of the Arizona Diamondbacks
All of the games contained the rosters and schedules of the beginning of the season of the year before the one described in the name except for Triple Play 2002. For example, Triple Play 2001 contained the rosters and schedules of the 2000 season, and Triple Play Baseball (without a year) contained the rosters and schedules for 2001. This is a result of the tradition of listing the year the series ends in, basketball, football and hockey ending in a different year from when they started. Baseball is the only exception, as it begins in March and ends in October of the same year.
