Arizona (i/ɛrɪˈzoʊnə/; /ærɪˈzoʊnə/) (Navajo: Hoozdo Hahoodzo; O'odham: Alĭ ṣonak) is a state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western United States and of the Mountain West states. It is the sixth largest and the 14th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. Arizona is one of the Four Corners states. It has borders with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, and Mexico, and one point in common with the southwestern corner of Colorado. Arizona's border with Mexico is 389 miles (626 km) long, on the northern border of the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. It was previously part of the territory of Alta California in New Spain before being passed down to independent Mexico and later ceded to the United States after the Mexican–American War. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.
Tombstone is a historic western city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States, founded in 1879 by Ed Schieffelin in what was then Pima County, Arizona Territory. It was one of the last wide-open frontier boomtowns in the American Old West. The town prospered from about 1877 to 1890, during which time the town's mines produced US$40 to $85 million in silver bullion, the largest productive silver district in Arizona. Its population grew from 100 to around 14,000 in less than seven years. It is best known as the site of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and now draws most of its revenue from tourism.
The town was established on a mesa above the Tough Nut Mine. Within two years of its founding, although far distant from any other metropolitan area, Tombstone boasted a bowling alley, four churches, an ice house, a school, two banks, three newspapers, and an ice cream parlor, alongside 110 saloons, 14 gambling halls, and numerous dance halls and brothels. All of these were situated among and on top of a large number of dirty, hardscrabble mines. The gentlemen and ladies of Tombstone attended operas presented by visiting acting troupes at the Schieffelin Hall opera house, while the miners and cowboys saw shows at the Bird Cage Theatre, "the wildest, wickedest night spot between Basin Street and the Barbary Coast".
A headstone, or gravestone is a stele or marker, usually stone, that is placed over a grave. A tombstone is a stele or marker, usually stone, that is placed over a tomb. They are traditional for burials in the Christian, Jewish and Muslim religions, among others. In most cases they have the deceased's name, date of birth, and date of death inscribed on them, along with a personal message, or prayer, but they may contain pieces of funerary art, especially details in stone relief. In many parts of Europe insetting a photograph of the deceased in a frame is very common.
The stele (plural stelae), as it is called in an archaeological context, is one of the oldest forms of funerary art. Originally, a tombstone was the stone lid of a stone coffin, or the coffin itself, and a gravestone was the stone slab that was laid over a grave. Now all three terms are also used for markers placed at the head of the grave. Some graves in the 18th century also contained footstones to demarcate the foot end of the grave. This sometimes developed into full kerb sets that marked the whole perimeter of the grave. Footstones were rarely annotated with more than the deceased's initials and year of death, and sometimes a memorial mason and plot reference number. Many cemeteries and churchyards have removed those extra stones to ease grass cutting by machine mower. Note that in some UK cemeteries the principal, and indeed only, marker is placed at the foot of the grave.
The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral was a 30-second gunfight between an outlaw group of Cowboys and lawmen that is generally regarded as the most famous shootout in the history of the American Wild West. The gunfight took place at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 1881, in Tombstone, Arizona Territory. It was the result of a long-simmering feud between Cowboys Billy Claiborne, Ike and Billy Clanton, Tom and Frank McLaury, and opposing lawmen: town Marshal Virgil Earp, Assistant Town Marshal Morgan Earp, and temporary deputy marshals Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Billy Clanton and both McLaury brothers were killed. Ike Clanton, who had repeatedly threatened to kill the Earps, claimed he was unarmed and ran from the fight along with Billy Claiborne. Virgil, Morgan, and Doc Holliday were wounded, but Wyatt Earp was unharmed. The fight has come to represent a period in American Old West when the frontier was virtually an open range for outlaws, largely unopposed by law enforcement, who were spread thin over vast territories, leaving some areas unprotected.

The Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, Monument Valley in Arizona - I have been there many times but it's the first time I put all of it in a video :). I was a guide for my Romanian friends at "Around the World in 4K" team (check them here https://www.youtube.com/user/aroundtheworld4k ) when they filmed here some months ago. The music was composed specifically for this video by Allen Constantine, who is a film and games music composer (listen to his music here https://soundcloud.com/allenconstantine ). Thank you, Allen! The video and the timelapse part was done with Sony RX10 III, my usual camera. Edited in Adobe Premiere and LRTimelapse/Lightroom (for the timelapse part).
On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane. Music is 'Exit Does Not Exist' by Sun Kil Moon, taken from his album of Modest Mouse covers. A record I was listening to a lot at the time. Shot on my iPhone 6 using the Hyperlapse app (for stabilisation), edited in Premiere Pro. Full details of the train rou...
From Kayenta we head to Page. Here we will visit the Antylope Canyon. Unlike the majority of other parks, to visit dell'Antylope you need a guide. For this, we booked the tour a few months earlier. After having crossed a paved road, we exit on a dirt road where our driver makes us dance a lot '. The Antelope Canyon is a narrow canyon, but easy to cross, with dizzying interior shapes created by wind and water. The only light comes from the top and at certain times of the day gives all'arenaria a beautiful hue. And 'perhaps the most photographed sandstone canyons of northern Arizona. My final adventure was to climb into the Grand Canyon to see the Colorado River and sleep next to it and then climb back out. My good buddy from high school Andrew Shallcross was my guide and travel partner. The deep beaches of the canyon hold a very strange energy. You feel it when you are there listening to the birds and the rapids. You feel as if you are in nature's cathedral. It demands respect. We are all smaller than we think.

WYATT EARP - THE REAL STORY OF THE LEGEND (WILD WEST HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) Wyatt Earp has been portrayed in countless movies and television shows by some of Hollywood's greatest actors, including Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, and more recently, Kevin Costner, but these popular fictions often belie the complexities and flaws of a man whose life is a lens on politics, justice and economic opportunity in the American frontier. As a young man, Wyatt Earp was a caricature of the Western lawman. He gained notoriety as the legendary gunman in the shootout at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, but shortly after his death in 1929, distressed Americans down on their luck transformed Wyatt Earp into a folk hero, a central figure in the narrative of how the West was won. Celebrated as a man who too...

Gunfight at the OK Corral (WILD WEST HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) In 1881 Virgil Earp, marshal of Tombstone, suspects Billy Clanton and the McLaury brothers of stealing cattle and, backed up by his brothers Wyatt and Morgan and 'Doc' Holliday, challenges them to surrender near the OK corral. In the following thirty second shoot-out the suspected and unarmed thieves are shot in the back, leading to the Earps standing trial for murder - though they are exonerated by the judge, who also happens to be a relation. This retelling, along with commentaries,is a far darker version of the story in which the Earps are usually represented as the unequivocally good guys.
