A mockumentary about how black people see white culture
"Darkest Austria" (1994) is a spoof film about the native tribes of the mountains of western Austria, the land of the Tyroleans and other warlike peoples.
It is based on three expeditions to the heart of Europe led by anthropologist Kayonga Kagame of Kinshasa University.
The film is done in the time-honored style of National Geographic films of the 1970s.
Although Europeans have written many books about themselves, Kagame warns us: "If you want to keep a clear head, avoid all white self-interpretation and rely on your own common sense."
Kagame's discoveries:
Polygamy: The Central European tribes practise dislocated polygamy: each man lives with one woman but, for reasons yet to be studied, does not live with his auxiliary wives in the same home.
Masks: They use masks in their dances but have little spiritual understanding of what they are for.
Music: The music sung by men is sad and boring while that of the women is shrill and aggressive. The native children, though, sing lively songs.
Religion: The Christian temples stand empty, although they are well maintained. Seeking to answer this mystery Kagame discovered a new religion: the natives now worship a god whose totem is the Chicken instead of the old god of the Lamb. In place of the bread and wine of the old god, worshipers eat the flesh of the chicken and drink as much beer as possible. They dance like chickens to become one with their god.
Cults: Kagame observed that some natives go through great hardships and grave dangers to reach the tops of certain mountains. He hired a helicopter to see what was at the tops of those mountains. He found crosses, the symbol of Christianity. The Mountaineers, as they call themselves, are clearly a semi-suicidal cult.
The northern tribes: Each summer neighboring tribes from the north leave their big houses and come to these mountains to live in small rooms. In one town, over 90% of the rooms were built and set aside for this purpose. As the northern tribal men look impotent, it is likely that their women seek sexual congress with the more virile southern male.
Psychology: The natives like to go up hills and slide down them over and over, sometimes for a whole day. In Kinshasa little children like to do this but soon grow out of it. Clearly Europe has regressed to infantile behavior on an epidemic scale, a sign that civilization there is drawing to a close.
Transport: They use bicycles to go nowhere.
Community: The natives say they believe in individualism and, in fact, they sometimes put their own selfish interests above that of their family and community. Yet they dress the same and act the same!
Some say that the white man's well-known love of money accounts for his strange behavior.
Kagame thinks that is too simple, in part because it denies them a spiritual dimension. He says they will always be something of a mystery to us.

Vienna is the capital of Austria, in Central Europe. It is an ancient fortress city that lies nestled on the eastern fringe of the Alps, on the banks of the Danube River.
One hundred years ago, this glittering city gave birth to an artistic and cultural revolution. It was a revolution that changed the future and secured forever, Vienna’s place as one of the world’s great cities.
Free thinking flourished in its cafe’s and new ideas in music, and philosophy became embedded in its cobblestones.
Today, visitors flock to Vienna, to experience a dynamic art culture, set amidst
historic streets where strauss’ waltzes still seem to echo. They come to drink coffee where some of the world’s greatest thinkers spent time and enjoy some of the world’s most magnificent artworks.
Join locals for a game of pool or a discussion on philosophy at Cafe Sperl.
Visit the Demel Bakery, the original confectioners to the Austrian Royal Family. Order a sachentorte - a traditional chocolate cake and relax with an international newspaper.
Stroll to the Vienna State Opera, considered one of the greatest opera houses in the world. Take a backstage tour, learn the story of this historic place and see the hidden machinery that creates the performance magic.
A little further along the ring is the Hofburg Imperial Palace. This impressive palace was home to the Hapsburg dynasty who ruled the area for centuries and currently serves as the official residence for the President of Austria.
Examine ancient manuscripts and see the some of the earliest globes in the Austrian National Library which is also housed here.
Take the time to enjoy the Volksgarten - or people’s garden - famous for its more than 400 species of roses and the Theseus Temple in its centre. There are 2000 parks in Vienna so there is always somewhere nearby to relax.
Layered with history, Vienna is a truly international city. Explore monumental palaces and priceless artworks, all set amidst a cafe culture that changed the world.

Travel video about destination Austria.
Austria has much to offer: high mountains and alpine pastures in the west, Mediterranean lakes in the south and scenic plains in the east. A land of majestic buildings and of the rural culture and history of past centuries. For more than three hundred years Vienna was the residence of the emperor and the nobility had their fine palaces built in this city that was dominated by Baroque architecture. The Hofburg was the residence of the royal family and the legislative centre of the city, with eighteen wings, nineteen courtyards and more than two and a half thousand rooms. The mighty central cupola of the National Library spans thirty metres high above the most beautiful reading hall in the world and each day white Lipizzaner stallions are trained in the Spanish Riding School. The Wachau covers thirty six kilometres of the Danube Delta with mediaeval old towns, castles and ruins, a Baroque monastery and an ancient vine growing culture. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and is a dynamic industrial city with an old town that has a long history. It is the third largest city in Austria and is located on both banks of the Danube with several connecting bridges. Salzburg is a city of bishops and of music and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Austria as well as being the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Grossglockner High Alps Road travels through one of the greatest natural landscapes in the world, the Hohe Tauern National Park, a remarkable mountain world in which nature is at its most glorious. Although this former powerful realm of the Habsburger is now a relatively small country, its history, traditions and the diversity of its remarkable landscapes have retained their irresistible allure. Austria will always be the majestic land in the very heart of Europe!

Travel video about destination Graz in Austria.
Graz is located in the centre of Styria and is the second largest city in Austria, a town that fascinates with its southern flair, magnificent historical buildings and beautiful panoramic views. The city's main landmark is its twenty-eight metre high clock tower that was built in 1561 and is one of the few remains of an old fortress. In order to facilitate a clearer view of the time from the historic part of the town below, the minute hand of the clock was exchanged with that of the hour hand. The first recorded history of Graz dates back to 1128 but earlier archaeological records indicate that it was originally a settlement in 2,000 B.C.But the main architectural focal point in Graz is the Landhaus. Domenico Ell'allio transformed the old meeting hall of Styria's country estates into a typical Renaissance building. Many cultural and historic works of art combine in perfect harmony and thus make Graz a particularly unique and attractive town.

Travel video about destination Vienna in Austria.
Vienna is one of the world's most beautiful, historic cities, brimming with nostalgia and with all the grand architecture of a once glorious empire, for three centuries it was home to the Austrian monarchy.
The architectural image of the city is dominated by the Ringstrasse, a four kilometre long boulevard which encircles the centre of the city.
It was under the supervision of Maria Theresia that the magnificent royal residence, the Schönbrunn Palace, was completed. More than 1,700 beautifully-preserved rooms afforded the large Imperial family much freedom of movement and its magnificent interior décor is one of the most lavish of its time. The Palace Grounds contain the outstanding Neptune Fountain and at the highest point, the Gloriette, from which the entire palace grounds are visible, as well as the charming Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest animal enclosure in the world.
St. Stephen's Cathedral dominates the centre of Vienna and not far away behind the State Opera House, is the venerable Hotel Sacher, with its old Viennese coffee house.
Johann Strauss, the Vienna Boys' Choir, Lipizzaner horses and Heurige wine, Vienna is a city of irresistible charm!

The EGGENBERG CASTLE near Graz in 4K Shot by Helmut Strasser, Olivier Boucard and Frederick von Sulle - the film is produced by VOXLIBERTUM and http://www.iris32.com - Unfortunately the footage is not available on IRIS32 (still old world attitude :) but the location is amazing for film productions, and the staff and management from the castle are very friendly and supportative. This 4K video is posted in original QUAD HD resolution. It has been produced with 4K RED 16x9 with a 4096 x 2304 pixel resolution. The color grading was done with REDCINE PRO X. It was mastered in FCP 7 with 4444 PRORES and than downscaled to 3840 x 2160 (QUAD HD) in PRORES 422 (PROXY) to reduce the file size to 6 GB. I hope you enjoy this little piece of pure "decadence". Hollywood actor Christop Waltz, star of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, explains the difference between Austrians and Germans.
Although the interview is slightly tongue-in-cheek, Waltz is well qualified to make the comparison. He was born in Vienna, the product of a German-born father, Johannes Waltz, and Austrian-born mother, Elisabeth Urbancic, who were set and costume designers.
As for St Martin Chalets, we love both Austrians AND Germans. We have many visitors from both countries every year, and we would find it very difficult to make a comparison. Honest! :)

Tom Neuwirth aka Conchita Wurst's first press conference interview (in German) after landing in Austria Vienna after winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 ESC in Copenhagen. The bearded lady got known on the Internet as "The Queen of Europe" or "The Queen of Austria" and scored one of the highest votes ever in ESC. This was Austria's first win in the competition since 1966 with "Merci, Chérie".
As an Austrian I think many Austrians feel humbled by the passionate support from so many countries and the amazing atmosphere in the hall! Thank you!!! So many exiting songs and countries!!! See you in Austria next year!
Also big respect for the composers of this song (Rise Like a Phoenix) and for the stunning performance and voice of course.

Breathe.austria
Austria is world-renowned as a country of culture, with a high standard of living. Austria’s key aim at the Expo Milano 2015 is to reinforce its reputation worldwide as an attractive place to live. Inside its 1,910 square meter exposition site, it showcases the naturally high standards and recreational spaces that make it so well-regarded. Its positive image are enriched by new elements, such as the landscape and climate, playing a key role in driving awareness around the use of sustainable resources.
A large quantity of food is already produced with sustainable techniques and the range of organic products available to consumers in supermarkets is higher than anywhere else in Europe. Encouraging strong connections between producers, sellers and consumers is central to Austria’s thematic itinerary of food sustainability; its cuisine is the result of its cultural characteristics, being Austria a culturally independent country within the German-speaking world. Another feature of its exposition is the purity of its climate, air and environment.

Klaus Dona comes from the art world. As Art Exhibition Curator for the Habsburg Haus of Austria, Klaus has organized exhibitions world wide. With this background his approach to archeology is unconventional. He has traveled the world in search of unique and unexplained findings. Intrepid and unrelenting, he is on a mission to bring to the eye of the public such finds as giant bones, crystal skulls, carvings and sculptures in forms that do not fit into the contemporary view of our timeline.

Capricorn Radio's James Swagger spent an afternoon with Klaus in Vienna talking at length about his process, his particularly stunning finds and why he is motivated to pursue this unusual vocation. Staunchly open minded, he refuses to retreat in the face of skepticism and doubt. Low on funding, he presses on to discover the real mysteries, going down through the centuries and excavating artifacts that science does not allow for, revealing the existence of physical proof that humanity has barely grazed the surface of our heritage here on Earth.
In collaboration with Reinhard Habeck and Karl Schmeisser Dona, who describes himself as a "spiritual archaeologist" published several writings which are devoted to "unsolved riddles of the human past." Dona was a speaker at conferences on unexplained artifacts in Austria, Spain, the USA, Italy and France and enjoys great prestige among many mystics.
Since 1982 Dona is living in Vienna , where it operates since 1987 an office. For years he has dedicated to the research of his opinion mysterious excavations and discoveries. Among other things, he thinks he can prove the existence of an ancient, global civilization that had built inter alia, the first pyramids.
Being a specialist in culture and art exhibitions he organized since 1991 over 30 cultural exhibitions in Austria, Japan and Korea. His attention was automatically drawn to a phenomenon called 'Ooparts' - out of place artifacts. These artifacts should not exist according to current science. Klaus Dona has been researching these type of artifacts for over a decade and, after a long preparation, he decided to set up an exhibition of 470 of these (Ooparts) pieces called ''Unsolved Mysteries''. The artifacts are from different places such as Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico and many other countries. He has been able to display such artifacts - a feat no one had been able to achieve since museums bury these in their basements to avoid raising uncomfortable questions. A large portion of the pieces are scattered around the world and held in secret private collections. Klaus Dona has been able to research more than 3500 pieces, which have no logical explanation!
