A walk through Ningxia Night Market, recently voted Taipei's best night market, topping even Shilin and Raohe Street.
The market is not very large, but has a lot of variety in snack food and is rather clean and organized. It's also conveniently located close to Taipei Railway Station.

One of the best things to do when you visit Taipei is go around at night and visit the many night markets the city has to offer. While the biggest and grandest night market in Taipei is the famous Shilin Night Market, there are many others. One of the others that I really liked was Raohe Night Market, located on Raohe Street. The market was smaller and friendlier, and along the street they packed in some seriously delicious food. One evening during our visit to Taipei, we headed over to the market in the evening to explore, wander around, and eat some of the must eat things to try at the market. Here are the main things we tried.
Fuzhou Pepper Buns (pork pepper buns)
Without doubt, Fuzhou Pepper Buns (pork pepper buns) is the most famous street food to eat at the Raohe Night Markets - and it’s crazy busy at all times that it’s open. Located right at the entrance of the market, you won’t have any trouble finding it. They are so popular, they even have a line marked out so it may feel like you’re actually standing in line at immigration instead of waiting for food. I ordered the classic pepper pork bun, a circle of dough filled with a pepper marinated mixture of pork, filled with green onions, wrapped into a bun, and then cooked in a tandoor oven. The result was an incredibly delicious bun, topped with loads of sesame seeds. The pork inside was meaty and had a nice salty and slightly sweet flavor, with a good freshness from the green onions. But definitely the bread was the highlight with its crispy and gooey texture all in one. Although the Fuzhou Pepper Buns stall has a long line at all times, it really is worth the wait. It’s most definitely one of the must eat things at Raohe Street Night Market in Taipei.
Grilled Squid
Another one of my favorite Taiwanese street food snacks at night markets is grilled squid, which is typically available from multiple stands throughout any night market. Spotting a squid vendor, we moved in to order some. The squid was first boiled, then grilled, basted in some kind of dark looking teriyaki sauce, and then cut up into slices for eating. It was then topped in some pepper and chili powder. Squid is just an excellent street food night market snack. The squid was fresh and the texture was excellent.
Fried dumplings
Continuing on our tour of must eat food at Raohe Night Market, we continued with a cup of fried dumpling, which were freshly cooked, and golden brown on one side, and then gooey on the top and the middle and filled with a mixture of minced meat and green onions on the inside. The dumplings were then topped with sauce and chilies and served with a skewer for eating. Again, just like many of the dumplings in Taiwan, they were delicious.
Pork bone herbal soup
Another one of the most famous things to eat at Raohe Night Market is the herbal pork bone soup, and there area number of restaurants that sell the same thing, and all of them are extremely busy. We chose one, got a seat, and our bowls of pork bone soup came almost immediately and they were piping hot. There wasn’t a lot of meat on the bones, but the pork did taste pretty good, and especially when it was dipped in the sauce. The soup was also flavorful, mild in flavor, but with a good Chinese medicinal flavor to it.
After finishing the pork bone soup, I was feeling pretty happy and satisfied, and so we decided to call it a night at Raohe Night Market and head back to our hotel. I really enjoyed the mix of food and the overall friendly environment at Raohe Night Market, and I think it’s a great place to spend some time exploring when you’re in Taipei.

On Day 8 in Taiwan we stayed in Taipei, and I had a few other things to do on my list of attractions in Taipei that I wanted to check out for the blog post guide and video that I plan to make about Taipei. We first went to Wistaria Tea Shop
0:35 Daan Park
In order to walk to the tea house we first got off the Metro at Daan Park and walked through the park. The park is what they call a forest park - so it’s less maintained, but has a more natural and more forest feel to it. I really liked it. It felt a little rustic and there were plenty of birds and wildlife. We didn’t spend too much time there though, but continued on our walk to the tea house.
1:23 Wistaria Tea House
One of the most famous and most well recognized tea houses in Taipei is Wistaria Tea House. Although it’s a Japanese tea house style, they mostly served Taiwanese and other Chinese teas. While I’m more into coffee, I still love tea, and mostly I wanted to check it out to get a taste of some really high quality teas. After having lunch (Taiwanese beef noodles video coming soon) we headed over to Wistaria Tea House. Ying and I had two different teas, one was a green tea, and the other was a black fermented puerh tea. Both were extremely high quality, but I really liked the black puerh tea the most - it had a real earth dirt flavor, but it was so good and so soothing. It was a little on the expensive side, but it was a tea house experience that I wanted to try.
4:45 Ningxia Night Market - Street food
After going to the tea house we met up with Joe and Raymond who we met the previous day on our day trip to Beitou hot springs, and we headed over to Ningxia Night Market to eat some street food and walk around. Ningxia Night Market is yet another great Taiwanese street food market in Taipei that serves a smorgasbord of all sorts of delicious food. One of the most famous things to eat at Ningxia Night Market is the oyster omelet, and there are about 4 very popular restaurants that serve it. After walking around the night market for a while, we stopped at one of the oyster omelet restaurants that looked busy, and ordered one. For the oyster omelet, it was made with oysters, rice flour batter, eggs, and some kind of vegetable, all expertly fried on a large skillet and served with a sweet tamarindy sauce on the side. The sauce was a little on the sweet side for me, but the oysters were nice and juicy and really good tasting. I really liked Ningxia Night Market, because there were lots of things to eat, and there were many street food stall that also had tables to eat at. I ordered a number of different things to try including chicken hearts and all things on sticks. For great Taiwanese street food Ningxia Night Market is a pretty good market to visit in Taipei.
9:17 Taipei 101 at Night
Finally to end the day we headed over to Taipei 101, this time to see it at night and to just walk around. At the malls and sidewalks surrounding the Taipei 101 there is plenty of actions, street shopping and street performances and it’s a pleasant place to wander.
That completes Day 8 in Taipei. The tea house experience was fantastic, and I really enjoyed the Ningxia Night Market as well.
And thank you again to Joe and Raymond.

That completes Day 8 in Taipei. The tea house experience was fantastic, and I really enjoyed the Ningxia Night Market as well.
And thank you again to Joe and Raymond.

Taiwanese Oyster Omelette - How to Make a Famous Taiwanese Night Market Snack!
Here is an easy-to-make recipe for a gooey classic Taiwanese snack that will bring you back to the bustling night markets of Taiwan. The homemade tangy tomato-based sauce complements the taste of the ocean (the oysters) perfectly. Freshly-shucked oysters are best, but I'm using jarred oysters because my second greatest fear is accidentally stabbing and fully piercing my palm with something sharp, like an oyster shucker.

The Liuhe Night Market is one of the most popular night markets in Taiwan where seafood, clothing, knives, cameras and live cameras are sold. During the day, Liuhe 2nd road looks like any other road with flowing traffic and storefronts. But after 6pm, the barriers go up and it becomes a pedestrian market.
The highlight of the market is the fresh seafood - you can choose from crab, shrimp, octopus and squid. Why not try it all, if you have the chance. Since the street is rather long, you can eat and digest as you go. I call this exercise in its best form.
Note: for some reason, I found there to be an obsession with the yellow rubber duck when I was travelling in Taiwan last year. It. Was. Everywhere. See if you can spot it in the rest of my videos/blog posts.
Price range: low to moderate
Who goes there: tourists and locals - open nightly
Address: 高雄市新興區六合二路 Liuhe 2nd Road, ShinShing District

Day 2 of traveling in Taiwan was a big sightseeing day. We went to Longshan Temple, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, at dumplings, and finished with the famous Shilin Night Market.
The first place we went was Longshan Temple, one of the most famous and most popular temples in the heart of Taipei, and it’s typically included as one of the main things to do in Taipei. Since we were staying in Ximending, an area not too far from Longshan Temple, we decided to walk there, but it’s also easily accessible by Taipei Metro. The temple was extremely busy and packed full of people. The busyness created a real buzz and interesting feeling at the temple. After spending about 30 minutes at Longshan Temple we moved on our next Taipei attraction.
Our next stop on this sightseeing day in Taipei was Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, one of the most famous landmarks in the entire city. Again, we easily got there by metro, and then we could just walk around on foot once we got there. On the same compound you’ll also find the National Theater and a number of beautiful buildings, but the main building, colored white and blue and that looks like a castle is Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. We happened to arrive right on the hour so we caught a bit of the changing of the guards ceremony, but it also takes places every hour if you go.
For lunch we walked over to a restaurant called Jin Ji Yuan (好公道金雞園), which is a local restaurant serving a variety of Taiwanese food, but especially known for their version of xiao long bao, which are Taiwanese soup dumplings. It only took about 10 minutes to walk to the restaurant from Chiang Kai-shek, and it was well worth the walk as we were all hungry. They were cooking all the food downstairs, and they led us upstairs to eat - where there was a full dining room. The menu was in both Chinese and English, but the menu checksheet to choose the dishes we wanted to order was all in Chinese, so we just did our best to choose the same ones. We order a couple steamed baskets of xiao long bao and a few side dishes including some of their famous fried chicken. Everything was delicious, and this was one of our first full meals of Taiwanese food.
After lunch we took a short rest back at our hotel for a few hours, and then made our way over to Shlin Night Market, often considered the biggest and the most legendary night market in Taiwan’s long list of amazing night markets. We arrived in the late afternoon, and already, there was a massive crowd there ready to go shopping and to eat snacks out of control. I was amazing at the amount of people and the amount of food available at the Shilin Night Market - and even though some people say it’s touristy, and that locals have given up on Shilin Night Market, I think it’s still quite popular with locals. While at Shilin Night Market I was able to eat some delicious Taiwanese street food, and I had a piece of stinky tofu (which I didn’t know was stinky tofu at the time of eating it). Shilin Night Market is a thrill to visit, one of the amazing things to do when you’re in Taipei.
That was it for Day 2 of this Taiwan travel and food guide vlog series. Thank you for watching!

Overnight in Taipei : Your Weekend City travel guide
I have always loved travelling.
I was lucky enough that from a young age, my parents took us all over the place, instilling in us a sense of larger spaces and broadened horizons. As I grew up, I became more independent in my travels and tried to figure out ways to do it more. From learning Spanish in Salamanca to purposefully getting 6 month summer jobs in places I wanted to explore further.

I became accustomed to getting lost and just wondering the streets, figuring out where would be the next good meal or when I would stumble onto some secret only locals whispered about. Getting lost was second nature back then. The only resources we had were over-read guide books that by the time you reached their recommendations, the waiters would push their best sellers down your throats.
So we had to resort to friend recommendations, what blog resources were up on the internet, guide books, conversations with strangers and your hotel concierge. Nowadays in our hyper connected world, everyone is an expert and there are so many sites that claim that this restaurants, trumps this bar, which is passé and now is considered touristy by pretty much everyone. Honestly, for me, good is good, so that’s what I base myself on.
For every family or friend trip we would take, I became the defacto research guide. Skimming through websites in English and in the language of destination, guide books, personal blogs, Instagram hashtags, geotags and anything else social media would allow me to delve into. Finally, being able to create a snap shot of the city, its districts and where to eat, sleep, drink, party or learn about the culture.
This is what Overnight is about.

https://www.expedia.com/Taipei.d180030.Destination-Travel-Guides
Taipei is the glittering capital of Taiwan, and one of the hottest travel destinations in all of Asia. When you visit this thriving city, you’ll find collections of stunning futuristic buildings interspersed with ancient Chinese temples and traditions.
One of these temples, Longshan, is located in Wanhua, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This is where you come to find good fortune, good health, and spiritual advice of all sorts. Once you’ve attained the guidance and wisdom you may not have realized you sought, head to 228 Peace Park, where you will find the memorial to the 1949 uprisings that eventually led to Taiwan’s independence.
Don’t worry about getting around the city; the Taipei Rapid Transit System, or MRT, will take you just about anywhere you need to go. Hop on it to pay a visit to the National Palace Museum, where you’ll find a giant collection of Chinese art and artifacts. There’s over half a million pieces related to ancient Chinese royalty here, and you can spend days exploring them all.
To plan out your next move, make your way to Taipei 101. This is one of the world’s tallest buildings, and you can soar to the top for a breathtaking view of the city and pick out the next place you’ll visit. Do you see Elephant Mountain? It’s not far from the downtown area, and it’s a short climb to the top for another look at Taipei. Keep up with the nature theme and make your stop the Taipei Zoo, where you’ll meet the largest menagerie of animals in Asia.
Cap off a day of Taipei sightseeing and adventure at Shilin Night Market, where you can join the locals in finding that next great meal or landing a spectacular bargain.

SNAPCHAT / INSTAGRAM: migrationology | Free food guide: http://migrationology.com/41-irresistible-meals/
This is the vlog of Day 1 of our Taiwan trip (stay tuned for all 12 days of vlogs). We woke up early in the morning in Bangkok and headed to Don Muaeng Airport. We checked into our flight via Tiger Air that offers a directly flight at a pretty good rate from Bangkok to Taipei. Everything went smoothly and our flight arrived on time. They didn’t serve any food on our airplane, but luckily as I was doing some work, my wife Ying went and bought some Subway for the airplane ride. So while I didn’t have airplane food this time, I did have Subway on an airplane.
We landed in Taipei, Taiwan, my first time to ever visit Taiwan in the early afternoon, and I had little clue how we were going to get from the airport to the center of Taipei and then on to our hotel. We ended up walking down stairs where we caught a shuttle bus from Taoyuan International Airport for 30 TWD to the Taoyuan train station in order to connect with the Taiwan high speed rail that would take us into the center of Taipei. From Taoyuan railway station we took the high speed rail which cost 165 TWD and in about 20 minutes we arrived at Taipei Main station, which is the major hub of transportation in the center of Taipei. From there we caught the local Metro to Ximen station, where our hotel was booked. After wandering around for a little while and getting a bit lost, we finally arrived into our hotel, called Go Sleep Hotel and the Xining branch, located right within the busy shopping and cultural district of Ximending in Taipei. We arrive to the hotel at about 6 pm almost and we were all very hungry and wanted to have our first meal in Taipei… but I had no idea what we were going to eat.
After walking around Ximending for a few minutes we sat down at the nearest restaurant we could find that was serving local Taiwanese food. Although I didn’t really know what we were ordering, the owner of the restaurant was very nice and after pointing to a few dishes, she kindly brought them to our table. Our first meal in Taipei, Taiwan was a success. From there we just walked around Ximending for a while, enjoying the atmosphere and sampling a few snacks along the way. There was so much food in this area, that is was crazy, so much to eat!
Thank you for watching this Taipei travel guide video vlog from Bangkok to Taipei. This is Day 1 of our Taiwan travel adventure.

Don't all the lights just look so beautiful? Personally i can appreciate the beauty of the city a lot more at night without the hustle and bustle. Taipei or any city just seems too busy during the day and everyone is busy heading to wherever but at night, you really can slow down your pace to appreciate everything that's going around you.
I know there might not be much to do other than shopping and dining, but hey, isn't that the norm with every big city? Though, I am telling you shopping in Taiwan can definitely compare with your shopping back home at the outlets because it is also part of the culture that the youngsters prefer more affordable shopping with lower quality. Well I guess it's you would call it the cheap fashion... not necessary the best if you are looking for quality but definitely cheap for sure! Also, the minimum wage in Taiwan is $4 USD...
Anyway, if you visiting Taiwan, be sure to check out downtown Taipei, dongqui in Mandarin Chinese (The Eastern District). And remember to take a stroll around the area after nightfall!
Thanks for watching! xx

Good day people! So I know in order to tour around Taiwan, it is almost always to come through Taipei Main Station because this is where everything transit from one another from Metro to High Speed Rail. But seriously, let's admit that Taipei Main Station really isn't anything spectacular to look at in terms of architecture.
The true treasure of this tourist destination is really inside the station. It is simply the BEST PLACE of all Taiwan for tourists to gather souvenirs because they've scouted all and every speciality from all counties. Well I mean "food souvenirs", yes in Asia when people travel they like to bring snacky souvenirs home to their friends, family and coworkers.
Not to mention the food court which takes up the entire second floor, it is simply HUGE and the king of all food courts because it is just so pretty and covers all kinds of food (well maybe not all kinds, but a lot already compared!) You seriously can't leave without having a bite of things because the aroma is just too delicious!
Anyway, thanks for watching stay warm! xx

Come discover Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s busiest harbor. Located in southwestern Taiwan, this city boasts scenic seaside spots, magnificent mountain views, and a captivating culture.
Begin your journey on the island of Cijin, and visit Tianhou Temple, where Matzu, the protector of fishermen and sailors, is honored. Next, head further inland and hike the trails at Monkey Mountain; have a spot of tea with a view of the city as monkeys swing overhead from the treetops. Other popular attractions include Love River, which offers scenic pathways that run through the city, and Lotus Lake, where the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas are said to give visitors good luck. At the lake, honor the Goddess of Mercy and God of War, and marvel at the massive statue of the Mysterious Warrior, Xuan Wu. After visiting Lotus Lake, don’t miss the nearby Tianfu Palace and Taiwan’s largest Confucian Temple.
Round the day off with a jaunt to the Liuhe Night Market. As one of the largest markets in Asia, these open-air stalls serve up the freshest seafood around.
Whether you’re looking to pay your respects to the gods or find a quiet spot on the harbor with a view, check out our Kaohsiung travel guide for more travel tips and inspiration.

Wanhua was once a famous red light district and full of brothels where (I assume mostly) Taiwanese/Chinese men went to eat snake before heading to one of the brothels. Snake, besides others, is considered in China/Taiwan to stimulate and enhance sexual potency. When prostitution was made illegal the restaurants serving snake were also on the decline.
These days the four (incl. XiChang St.) night markets are all connected and serve popular local delicacies, including oyster omelette, stinky tofu, dried cuttlefish, pig trotters, glass jelly, and desserts such as ice cream, peanut or red bean cake.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN — Hi everyone! Say hello to this week’s pick Jennifer! Jennifer enjoys singing and watching movies. She owns a small clothing boutique in the Shida Night Market, selling the latest in Korean fashion.
Shida Night Market is one of the better known night markets in Taipei. Night markets in Taiwan are street markets that operate daily, offering a mixture of individual stalls hawking clothing, specialty drinks, and xiaochi--literally “small eats”--similar to snacks or fast food.
Shilin Night Market is one of the most famous and largest night markets in Taiwan. The night market opened in 1899 and is famous for its variety of eateries selling authentic Taiwanese xiaochi.
So visiting a night market in Taiwan should definitely be on your To Do List if you visit and you may even run into Tomogirl Jennifer!

I'M BACKKK!
And it feels great being back.. (despite the heat). Of course, the first thing I do when i get back was to eat all the delicious foods I had missed for the past year.
Ningxia Night Market:
This is one of the oldest night markets in Taipei, with a lot of history behind it. Here, you can find a great variety of different Taiwanese street foods, both new and traditional. You'll find things like stinky tofu, oyster omelette, taro cakes, and many more for you to discover!
MRT Station:Walk about 10 minutes from Zhongshan MRT Station or Shuanglian MRT Station heading West
Next we headed to Yong Kang Street, where you'll find lots of foooood (again). We had some minced pork noodles, and for dessert, we had some mango shaved ice... That's my idea of a perfect meal :3
For a night time stroll, we walked to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall at night. It was kinda hard to catch on camera the mass beauty of the area. Next time, I'd try to go during sunset :)
I'm only here for a couple of days in total. So i'll be sure to treasure everyday! Let me know where you want to see in Taipei, and I'll do my best to vlog it for ya! :D

Street Food in Asia
When it comes to street food Asia is without a doubt the leader in terms of top notch delectable and inexpensive bite sized delights. Prior to teaching English in South Korea, having grown up in Canada, I really didn't know what street food was all about. Over the past decade, having focused most of my time living and traveling in Asia, I've become such a huge fan of street food that I feel as t

On Day 10 in Taipei, Taiwan, Ying and I decided to take a day trip to Jiufen (of Jiu Fen) and on to Keelung City and have a day of eating Taiwanese street food. I’m extremely happy we had a chance to briefly visit both Jiufen and Keelung City. I’ll just quickly go over where and how we went from Taipei to Jiufen and then on to Keelung City using timecodes so you can come back to a location in the video easily if you want to.
0:38 How to Get from Taipei to Jiufen by Bus
Using the directly I read off Wikipedia travel guide, we took the Taipei Metro to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, then took exit 1 (Andong Street) and made an immediate u-turn, walked to the intersection and made a left, and then the bus stop was right there on the right hand side. We somehow arrived to the bus stop right as 1062 arrived and if Taiwan couldn’t make things any more easy and efficient we boarded the bus using our easy cards. The bus ride from Taipei central there to the small town of Jiufen took just over 1 hour, and we soon arrived in the touristy, but very beautiful and pleasant town of Jiufen - which is one of the biggest little tourist towns in Taiwan. You can choose to take a day trip to Jiufen from Taipei like we did, or you can even spend the night or a few nights there.
2:45 Taiwanese street food at Jiufen
Jiufen is a small little mountain town in Taiwan about 1 hour from Taipei with a great view of the ocean… and it’s turned into a major tourism destination. Although you can go there to do some shopping and buy some souvenirs, by far the main reason to go to Jiufen on a day trip is to eat as much Taiwanese street food and snacks as you can - and also there are plenty of sit-down restaurant you can eat at as well. Ying and I started our day of eating Taiwan street food by eating a plate of snails and a plate of grilled squid, both of which had quite a similar texture, and the flavor was delicious. After the snails and squid, I couldn’t resist having a Taiwanese tea egg, one of the most popular snacks. After walking around and taking loads of photos of the picturesque scenes around Jiufen, Ying and I stopped at a real restaurant to take a little break, cool down from the hot sun, and eat some more food - this time at a real restaurant. I tried a dish called three cup chicken, which was deliciously comforting. Another very famous food to eat in Jiufen is the sweet taro balls, which was pretty good.
12:24 How to get from Jiufen to Keelung City on Bus #788
After spending a few hours wandering around Jiufen, we took the bus from just up the road directly to Keelung City, one of the harbour towns in Taiwan, and about a 45 minute drive from Jiufen. The reason we wanted to go to Keelung City was to go to Keelung Miaokou Night Market, one of the most famous Taiwanese street food markets in Taiwan.
13:35 Street food at Keelung Miaokou Night Market
One of the most well known night markets in Taiwan is Keelung Miaokou Night Market, located right in Keelung City, and home to an abundance of delicious things to eat. I was actually still quite full from all the food we had already eaten in Jiufen, but I did manage to try a few things at the night market, and also I just really enjoyed the ambiance and atmosphere of the market. Ying and I luckily got a table and chairs at a small street food stall serving long finger sized dumplings, which were similar to gyoza. They were filled with minced pork and lots of green onions. Along with a plate of pickled cucumbers, and a plate of tofu, they were some of the best potsticker style dumplings I had on my entire trip to Taiwan. I also tried crab soup, and a famous street food called a Nutritious Sandwich.
Day 10 in Taiwan, and eating all sorts of Taiwanese street food snacks in both Jiufen and Keelung City was an excellent day trip.

The closest transit station is the 7 train stop at 111th St. From 111th street walk south 4 blocks until you pass under an overpass. The avenue numbers should be increasing as you walk south. You will see the Night Market on your left in the parking lot after passing under the overpass (corner of 111th Street and 45th Ave.). Click here to get transit directions from your location.

When it comes to street food Asia is without a doubt the leader in terms of top notch delectable and inexpensive bite sized delights. Prior to teaching English in South Korea, having grown up in Canada, I really didn't know what street food was all about. Over the past decade, having focused most of my time living and traveling in Asia, I've become such a huge fan of street food that I feel as though I'm being robbed whenever I visit a country or city where I'm unable to get it.
When you think of street food in Asia numerous countries pop into mind. The standouts in my opinion are Korean street food, Chinese street food, Thai street food, Malaysian street food, Vietnamese street food and Taiwanese street food.
The following is a travel and food guide to the best street food to be found in Asia:
1) Thai Street Food
Where can you find Thai street. In a word - everywhere! Street food in Thailand is as much a part of daily life as songthaews and Buddhist monks. In this video we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we sample numerous street food delights including twist potatoes, blueberry cheesecake ice cream, pan-fried dumplings, sausage and banana pancakes with chocolate.
2) Korean Street Food
I've said it before but it is worth repeating again: "There is no place on earth that offers better street food that South Korea."
Called 'pojangmacha' some of my favorites include tteokbokki and hotteok. If you're in Seoul consider checking out Insadong and Namdaemun for a diverse selection of delectable delights.
3) Macanese Street Food
Friends had told us about the legendary street food in Macua. Fortunately for us we had an opportunity to try it ourselves. Some of the top highlights included egg tarts, pork chop bun, almond cakes, soy milk and Taiwanese pearl milk bubble tea.
4) Chinese Street Food
Our favorite city to eat street, while traveling in China, was the night market in Yangshuo. We started off with satay, a smoky and spicy meat and then moved on to Chinese banana pancakes. Compared to other countries where I've tried banana pancakes this one compared favorably.
5) Malaysian Street Food
I've visited many night markets in Asia and the Jonker Street Night Market, located in Malacca, Malaysia, is one of my all time favorites. On a hot and humid evening we had a chance to cool down with some delicious Cendol - a shaved iced dish with coconut milk, cane syrup, jellies and beans along with some refreshing sugarcane juice.
6) Singapore Street Food
Singapore is by far the most expensive country in Southeast Asia to visit. Accommodation is expensive. Eating at restaurants costs a small fortune. The solution? Hawker Centres. These open air food stall complexes serve up wonderful delights from cuisine all over Asia and especially SE Asia. We were lucky enough to sample Hainanese chicken rice, butter chicken, butter naan, satay and dim sum.
7) Khmer Street Food
Have you ever tried insects before? Prior to traveling in SE Asia I had yet to experience eating an insect. While in Cambodia I had the chance to devour some deep-fried crickets. Surprisingly, they were delicious - tasting similar to a potato chip.
8) More Malaysian Cuisine
While wandering around in Melaka we cooled down with Cendol - this time with ice cream while munching on deep-fried banana.
9) More Thailand Cuisine
Here we show you the infamous Thai banana pancake, also known as banana roti, as made from scratch Thai style. While living nearby Chiang Mai Gate we came here often to this stall for a sweet treat and for some dessert. Coming in at only 30 Baht (1 USD) it's the kind of treat where you can have more than one.
10) Thai Cuisine once again
One of our favorite outdoor stalls in Chiang Mai served yellow noodles with dumplings. The wanton like dumplings were a real treat. Coming in at just over a dollar we ate here often to save money.
This is our street food guide to Asia. Did you enjoy it? What are some of our favorite street foods from Asia or around the world?
