Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza is back in the capital Bujumbura following a failed coup attempt in the country.
Nkurunziza is set to address the nation later in the day. Meanwhile, the leader of the coup, General Godefroid Niyom-bare is on the run after he managed to flee his captors after being arrested. Earlier, two other senior figures involved in the coup, surrendered to the police. The coup was declared by a section of the military two days ago while the president was visiting Tanzania. Burundi plunged into turmoil after Nkurun-ziza officially announced he will run for president. The opposition calls this an unconstitutional third term in office. Burundi’s civil society has called for fresh demonstrations in the country.

The French Foreign Legion (French: Légion Etrangère (French pronunciation: [leʒjɔ̃ etʁɑ̃ʒɛʁ]), L.É.) is a military service Wing of the French Army established in 1831, unique because it was created for foreign nationals willing to serve in the French Armed Forces.
Commanded by French officers, it is also open to French citizens, who amounted to 24% of the recruits as of 2007.[6] The Foreign Legion is today known as a unit whose training focuses not only on traditional military skills but also on its strong esprit de corps. As its men come from different countries with different cultures, this is a way to strengthen them enough to work as a team. Consequently, training is often described as not only physically challenging, but also very stressful psychologically. A soldier who becomes injured during a battle for France can immediately apply for French citizenship under a provision known as "Français par le sang versé" ("French by spilled blood").[7] As of 2008 members come from 140 countries.
The Foreign Legion was primarily used to protect and expand the French colonial empire during the 19th century. The Foreign Legion was stationed in Algeria, where it took part in the pacification and development of the colony. The FFL were deployed in a number of conflicts, including the First Carlist War in 1835, the Crimean War in 1854, the Second Italian War of Independence in 1859, the French intervention in Mexico in 1863, the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, the Tonkin Campaign and Sino–French War in 1883, supporting growth of the French colonial empire in Sub-Saharan Africa and pacifying Algeria, the Second Franco-Dahomean War in 1892, the Second Madagascar expedition in 1895, and the Mandingo Wars in 1894.
In World War I, the Foreign Legion fought in many critical battles on the Western Front. The Foreign Legion played a smaller role in World War II than in World War I, though having a part in the Norwegian, Syrian and North African campaigns. During the First Indochina War (1946–54), the Foreign Legion saw its numbers swell. The FFL lost a large number of men in the catastrophic Battle of Dien Bien Phu. During the Algerian War of Independence (1954–62), the Foreign Legion was brought to the brink of extinction after some officers, men, and the highly decorated 1st Foreign Parachute Regiment (1REP) took part in the Generals' putsch. Notable operations included the Suez Crisis, the Battle of Algiers and various offensives launched by General Maurice Challe including Operations Oranie and Jumelles.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the Legion had a new role as a rapid deployment force to preserve French interests – not only in its former African colonies but in other nations as well; it also returned to its roots of being a unit always ready to be sent to hot-spots all around the world. Some notable operations include: the Chadian–Libyan conflict in 1969–72 (the first time that the Legion was sent in operations after the Algerian War), 1978–79, and 1983–87; Kolwezi in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo in May 1978; Rwanda in 1990–94; and the Côte d'Ivoire (the Ivory Coast) in 2002 to the present. In 1990, the Foreign Legion were sent to the Persian Gulf as a part of Opération Daguet. In the 1990s, the Foreign Legion helped with the evacuation of French citizens and foreigners in Rwanda, Gabon and Zaire. The Foreign Legion was also deployed in Cambodia, Somalia, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the mid- to late-1990s, the Foreign Legion was deployed in the Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville and in Kosovo. In the 2000s, the Foreign Legion was deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Licorne in Côte d'Ivoire, the EUFOR Tchad/RCA in Chad, and Operation Serval in the Northern Mali conflict[8]
Other nations have tried to emulate the French Foreign Legion model. There have been units composed of foreign recruits in China, Israel, the Dutch Koninklijk Nederlandsch-Indische Leger (KNIL), the Rhodesian Bush War of the 1960s and 1970s, and Russia and Spain.

When Thailand's army seized power in a bloodless coup, much of the business establishment quietly cheered them on. A year on, the captains of Thai industry remain firmly behind the junta, despite a lackluster economy and a delayed return to democracy. For businesses, calm on the streets of a city that was engulfed in chaos for months leading up to a putsch is more important than finding a cure for the malaise in Southeast Asia's second-largest economy. Despite hopes that the generals would unleash a splurge of infrastructure spending, state investment has failed to keep pace even with the levels the paralyzed government of a year ago managed, partly because bureaucrats fear an anti-graft drive by the junta.

Berlin, Bendlerblock, am 20. Juli 1944.

Webster Tarpley - November 15, 2014 - World Crisis Radio http://tarpley.net/?p=7384
House Foreign Affairs Chair Ed Royce referred on Nov. 13 on CNN to a “policy review,” making clear that US aggression against the Assad government of Syria was the desired goal. Royce recounted happily that the US strategy might now include a bombing campaign against the Assad government (the main barrier to ISIS) to impose a no-fly zone over Syria designed to please the treacherous President Erdogan of Turkey — who has been a strong backer of the ISIS butchers — and “other regional actors” including “the Gulf states” — i.e. Qatar. Royce indicated that the US air campaign, including the overthrow of Assad, would be the price for a Turkish invasion of Syria with troops and tanks. All of this would add up to a general war in the Middle East — which may well be the goal of the more lucid of these plotters.
Royce also praised disgraced Marine General John R. Allen, once the deputy chief of the US Central Command for the Middle East, who was forced to resign after the revelation of his extensive and dubious email correspondence with the mysterious Lebanese society woman Gilberte “Jill” Khawam Kelley was revealed in November 2012. Allen, along with his colleague David Petraeus, was one of about two dozen generals and admirals forced out of the military after the Benghazi incident, which was a provocation to deliver the presidency to Romney, and has been compared to a warmonger putsch.
On September 13, 2014, Allen — although demonstrably a serious security risk — was appointed by Skull & Bones Secretary of State John Kerry as “Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL” based in the State Department — in effect, as ISIS Czar. Despite Allen’s checkered past, there was little media hue and cry. Allen was malodorous enough to be denied his promised Supreme Command in NATO after his missives to Kelley were revealed, but he somehow was rehabilitated in time for ISIS. Allen’s job description is to “sustain the coalition so it can operate across multiple lines of effort in order to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL.” Is Allen a focus of the defeatism and internal self-sabotage which has crippled the anti-ISIS effort? Has he been responsible for coddling Erdogan’s and Qatar’s pro-ISIS treachery? As part of the Petraeus faction, Allen must in any case be considered as a dangerous advocate of escalation and wider wars.
Allen’s sidekick is the randy Brett McGurk, a former National Security Council official who was denied confirmation as US Ambassador in Iraq in June 2012 when Cryptome published a series of his scabrous emails sent to Wall Street Journal reporter Gina Chon. Kerry soon rewarded McGurk the “Iraq expert” with the post of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State.
Allen and McGurk are thus both rejects, who should have been stripped long ago of the security clearances they need to hold these jobs. It appears they are both serving as advocates for Turkey, Qatar, and the Moslem Brotherhood. They should both be fired at once.

How history’s most evil tyrant survived 25 years of terror
How did Adolf Hitler manage to survive more than 40 assassination attempts--some by his own generals? Using captured SS documents and eyewitness interviews, this documentary series reveals the secrets of the elite bodyguards who swore loyalty oaths to the Führer himself. It explains how Hitler cultivated rivalries among his security services to ensure his safety, and how his purposefully unpredictable behavior saved his life several times.
Carefully assembled archival footage offers rare glimpses inside Hitler’s infamous strongholds--the Berghof, the Wolf’s Lair, and the Berlin bunker. Computer-generated graphics detail the security measures used in his trains, planes, and touring cars. And meticulous re-enactments bring lost incidents to life. In 13 riveting episodes, this Military Channel favorite brings fresh, fascinating context to the 20th century’s most evil and destructive tyrant.
Since 1990, the British team of Philip Nugus and Jonathan Martin has created popular, critically acclaimed historical documentaries, including Churchill’s Bodyguard and The Century of Warfare.

This film was made as a historical document to record permanently and accurately the trial of the Nazi defendants at Nuremberg. It consists of footage from German films documenting Nazi personalities and activities interwoven with film shot during the trials - including testimony and statements from defendants, prosecuting attorneys, judges, and witnesses.
