Shirak has 2 restaurants serving traditional Armenian cuisine and daily breakfast buffets. Drinks and light snacks can be enjoyed at the bar or in the cafe. Sights such as Yerevan History Museum and the Blue Mosque are a 5-minute walk away. The Republic Square is 500 ft from the hotel. The nearest metro station is Zoravar Andranik, half a mile away. The spacious rooms at Hotel Shirak are decorated in light cream and beige colors, and each features a flat-screen TV and minibar. A hairdryer is provided in the bathrooms. Shirak Hotel is in the center of Yerevan, next to the Children's Park and St. Nikolai Cathedral. Gyumri is situated 126 km from Yerevan (capital of the Republic of Armenia). It lies in the northwestern part of Armenia in the central Shirak Highland. It sits 1550 feet above sea level. The Kumayri historic district is one of the few places in the Republic of Armenia with an authentic historical urban Armenian architecture. Luckily for the Gyumri city and their citizens, this district has survived two mayor earthquakes.

Գյումրի է այցելել Հայաստանում Չինաստանի արտակարգ և լիազոր դեսպան Թիան Չանչունը: Հյուրերին ընդունել է Ազգային ժողովի փոխնախագահ Սամվել Բալասանյանը: Հյուրերին ուղեկցեցին Արամաբերդի եկեղեցական համալիր: Չինաստանի պատվիրակության համար տպավիրիչ էր դեռևս 10-րդ դարում կառուցված և մեզ հասած վանական համալիրը:
«Հայաստանը և Չինաստանը ունեն դարավոր պատմություն, և պետք է անել ամեն ինչ բարեկամական կապերի ամրապնդման համար»,-նման միտք է հայտնել Չինաստանի Կոմկուսի քաղբյուրոյի մշտական անդամ Լի Չանչունը «Բարգավաճ Հայաստան» կուսակցության նախագահ Գագիկ Ծառուկյանի հետ հանդիպման ժամանակ: Հենց այս գաղափարը իրականացնելու նպատակով է նաև Գյումրի այցելել Թիան Չանչունը: «Այսօր եկել ենք Գյումրի՝ պարզելու, թե քաղաքը ինչ հնարավորություն ունի. ես ջանքեր կգործադրեմ, որպեսզի քաղաքում կատարվեն ներդրումներ և նոր աշխատատեղեր բացվեն»,-նշեց բարձրաստիճան չինացի պաշտոնյան:
«Հաշվի առնելով մեր երկրի զարգացման ռազմավարական ծրագրերը, Գյումրիում է գտնվելու մեր տեխնոզարգացման կենտրոնը, չինական կողմը նույնպես հետաքրքրված է Գյումրիին տրամադրելու նոր տեխնոլոգիաներ»,-նշեց ԲՀԿ քաղխորհրդի անդամ, Հայաստանի Խաղաղության Կոմիտեի նախագահ Գրիգոր Պետրոսյանը:
Նախանշվող համագործակցության շրջանակներում Գյումրին կդառնա Չինաստանի քույր քաղաքներից մեկը: Նախնական համաձայնությամբ այս ամիս նախատեսվում է ԱԺ փոխնախագահ Սամվել Բալասանյանի այցը Չինաստան: «Կանենք հնարավորը, որ հայ-չինական հարաբերությունները զարգանան և նոր բարձունքի հասնեն»,- նշեց ԱԺ փոխնախագահ Սամվել Բալասանյանը:

Shirak (Armenian: Շիրակ) is a province (marz) of Armenia. It is in the north-west of the country, bordering Turkey in the west and Georgia in the north. Its capital is Gyumri. Shirak is known as the homeland of khash. It is as much semi-desert as it is mountain meadow or high alpine. In the south, the high steppes crash into mountain terrain, verdant green in the spring, hues of reddish brown in the summer. Shirak is served by Shirak International Airport near Gyumri.
The ancient history of Shirak is similar to its cousin the Ararat Valley, steeped in legend to some, but found by archaeologists to have been inhabited 250,000 years ago, with settlements popping up along the Akhurian Valley beginning around 9000 BC. Agriculturally based, the region has few of the metallurgical centers found South, but still had sophisticated settlements.

The province of Shirak consists of the following 119 communities (hamaynkner), of which 3 (bold in the table) are considered urban and 116 are considered rural. The division below is by raion, the administrative subdivisions of Armenia before 1995.
