I Vesterålen i Nordland fylke ligger Andøya usjenert til ved havet og Golfstrømmen. Andøya ligger som ei perle med vidt syn over kritthvite strender og høye fjell som stiger bratt opp av åpent hav. Veistrekningen langs kysten på Andøya er en 58 kilometer lang nasjonal turistveg, som er et alternativ fremfor E6 for å oppleve den vakre kysten. På sommerstid er dette også veien til fergeforbindelse over til Senja. Dyrelivet på øya er rikt, og muligheten for å oppleve både hval og sel er god. På Andøya ligger også Bleikstranda, som er Nord-Europas lengste sandstrand.

C-REX is a NASA sounding rocket mission that will release a large constellation of artificial clouds into the ionosphere above the Greenland Sea, in order to measure winds at the edge of space. People on Svalbard will have a front-row seat for this spectacular event.

The C-REX mission
In parallell with the CAPER mission, NASA is also preparing the C-REX (Cusp-Region Experiment) mission (NASA nr. 52.001 UE). The PI for this Experiment is Dr. Mark Conde of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF). The C-REX Experiment is being based lined aboard a Black Brant XIIA launch vehicle and requires the deployment of 24 individual canisters sub-payloads. Each canister will be propelled away from the main payload by small rocket motors and then detonate, releasing barium and strontium clouds between the altitude of 150 and 400 km over the Greenland Sea, west of Svalbard. Ground and aircraft based cameras will then track these clouds with the strontium drift indicating movement of the neutral winds, and the barium drift giving the ion velocities. This Experiment also requires an Attitude Control System (ACS) to hold alignment of the main payload during sub-payload deplaoyments and real time GPS release timing in order to maintain the desired integrity of the resultant constellation. The C-REX mission is a collaboration between the UAF, Clemson University (CU) with Dr. Miguel Larsen as Co-Investigator and responsible person for the barium/strontium ampoules needed for this mission, and the University College of London (UCL) with Dr. Anasuya Aruliah responsible for the UCL’s Fabry-Perot instruments on Svalbard .

The title track ends Andøya in a more minimalistic way, leaving us with the periodic humming of the power lines as the only sound piercing the harsh wind around us.
Crystalline layers of sounds remind the everlasting and clear winter night in this freezing land, but doesn't prevent us from being bitten by the wind. Eventually numbing our sensations until we completely forget about it near the end of the track, we are ultimately mesmerized by the details coming from the power supplies ; static, grinding noises and hidden elements act as an electric lament, lull us, imprison us in a mental cell.
We were curious about this hostile environment and came to explore it a bit at first. But we didn't expect it to seduce and trap us without a chance to escape.
Now, Andøya owns us.

Andøya is the northernmost island in the archipelago of Vesterålen, situated some 300 km inside the Arctic circle. Andøya is located in the Andøy municipality in Nordland county, Norway.
The island has an area of 489 km², making it the tenth largest island in Norway. The island is connected to the neighboring island of Hinnøya using the Andøy Bridge.
Bog areas are used for extensive production of peat growth. Andøya is also well known for its cloudberries. Besides the flat and largely continuous bog areas, Andøya also consists steep mountain ranges reaching up to 700 meters high. Kvasstinden, the highest points on the island, are sharp peaks at 705 meters. The Andøya Rocket Range which was founded in 1962 is located on the island.

Andøya CanSat 2013, Auroras Borealis
This is the CanSat we used during the national CanSat competition in Norway. Our primary mission was to take readings of temperature and pressure, and our secondary mission was to film the CanSat on it's way down. To be able to do this, we separated our CanSat in two parts and installed a standalone camera in the part who was meant to be on top during the drop. We were very pleased with the result. The picture does freeze at some points. This is done intentionally so that you can see the ground, the other CanSat and the rocket parts better.

The PI for this Experiment is Dr. Mark Conde of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF). The C-REX Experiment is being based lined aboard a Black Brant XIIA launch vehicle and requires the deployment of 24 individual canisters sub-payloads. Each canister will be propelled away from the main payload by small rocket motors and then detonate, releasing barium and strontium clouds between the altitude of 150 and 400 km over the Greenland Sea, west of Svalbard. Ground and aircraft based cameras will then track these clouds with the strontium drift indicating movement of the neutral winds, and the barium drift giving the ion velocities. This Experiment also requires an Attitude Control System (ACS) to hold alignment of the main payload during sub-payload deplaoyments and real time GPS release timing in order to maintain the desired integrity of the resultant constellation. The C-REX mission is a collaboration between the UAF, Clemson University (CU) with Dr. Miguel Larsen as Co-Investigator and responsible person for the barium/strontium ampoules needed for this mission, and the University College of London (UCL) with Dr. Anasuya Aruliah responsible for the UCL’s Fabry-Perot instruments on Svalbard .

The title track ends Andøya in a more minimalistic way, leaving us with the periodic humming of the power lines as the only sound piercing the harsh wind around us.
Crystalline layers of sounds remind the everlasting and clear winter night in this freezing land, but doesn't prevent us from being bitten by the wind. Eventually numbing our sensations until we completely forget about it near the end of the track, we are ultimately mesmerized by the details coming from the power supplies ; static, grinding noises and hidden elements act as an electric lament, lull us, imprison us in a mental cell.
We were curious about this hostile environment and came to explore it a bit at first. But we didn't expect it to seduce and trap us without a chance to escape.
Now, Andøya owns us.

This is the CanSat we used during the national CanSat competition in Norway. Our primary mission was to take readings of temperature and pressure, and our secondary mission was to film the CanSat on it's way down. To be able to do this, we separated our CanSat in two parts and installed a standalone camera in the part who was meant to be on top during the drop. We were very pleased with the result.
The picture does freeze at some points. This is done intentionally so that you can see the ground, the other CanSat and the rocket parts better.
