Chinese art is visual art that, whether ancient or modern, originated in or is practiced in China or by Chinese artists. The Chinese art in the Republic of China (Taiwan) and that of overseas Chinese can also be considered part of Chinese art where it is based in or draws on Chinese heritage and Chinese culture. Early "stone age art" dates back to 10,000 BC, mostly consisting of simple pottery and sculptures. After this early period Chinese art, like Chinese history, is typically classified by the succession of ruling dynasties of Chinese emperors, most of which lasted several hundred years.
Chinese art has arguably the oldest continuous tradition in the world, and is marked by an unusual degree of continuity within, and consciousness of, that tradition, lacking an equivalent to the Western collapse and gradual recovery of classical styles. The media that have usually been classified in the West since the Renaissance as the decorative arts are extremely important in Chinese art, and much of the finest work was produced in large workshops or factories by essentially unknown artists, especially in the field of Chinese porcelain. Much of the best work in ceramics, textiles and other techniques was produced over a long period by the various Imperial factories or workshops, which as well as being used by the court was distributed internally and abroad on a huge scale to demonstrate the wealth and power of the Emperors. In contrast, the tradition of ink wash painting, practiced mainly by scholar-officials and court painters especially of landscapes, flowers, and birds, developed aesthetic values depending on the individual imagination of and objective observation by the artist that are similar to those of the West, but long pre-dated their development there. After contacts with Western art became increasingly important from the 19th century onwards, in recent decades China has participated with increasing success in worldwide contemporary art.
I saw this folk artist producing sugar paintings with liquid sugar along the streets in Tian Jing. I was able to video tape the beginning to end of this specific painting. The painter uses the brown sugar as the raw material, the bronze spoon and a shovel as the tool, and the slab of marble as the "paper". Sugar painting originated from the Ming Dynasty when sugar animals and figures were made in molds as part of a sacrifice in religious rituals. In the Qing Dynasty, sugar painting gained more popularity. This particular artist was creating paintings with the 12 zodiac animals.

The Korean Wave has been constantly expanding, but recently a number of celebrities from other Asian countries have also made their way into the Korean Entertainment Industry. Among them is Tang Wei who is the most influential and most recognized Chinese actresses. Chinese actresses such as Maggie Cheung and Joey Wang from the 80s, Zhang Ziyi, Shu Qi, Gong Li from the 90s, and later Fan Bingbing and Liu Yifei, etc. have been popular in Korea. But Tang Wei’s popularity now compared to all other Chinese Stars in Korea is not the same. Korean people have treated her just like one of their own famous celebrities there. So why do Koreans like her so much?

Contemporary Beijing artist Yue Minjun is opening a new exhibit in Paris today (Wednesday, Nov 14), his first major European one. [Yue Minjun, Chinese Artist ]: "The idea of the exhibition is to show the French public what a Chinese artist thinks about life." Yue is among the most famous contemporary Chinese artists, alongside names such as Ai Weiwei and Liu Xiaobo. However his art is not overtly political. His style is called Cynical Realism, a movement that came out of China after the Tiananmen Square massacre. His most famous piece, "The Execution" is often thought to be a commentary on the massacre. However he says his paintings express a common human emotion or experience, more philosophical than political. [Yue Minjun, Chinese Artist]: "I tried to express some painful ideas...
A Chinese artist has created the world's longest wooden carving out of a single piece of timber. Zheng Chunhui-- a famous wood carver, has spent four years creating this wooden masterpiece which is a copy of a famous painting. The intricate work features boats, bridges, buildings and even 550 individually carved people. This enormous carving is historically significant because it shows the day-to-day lives of rich and poor people in ancient China. It is more than 12 meters long. The beauty of Zheng's work cannot be put into words. You just have to see it for yourself.

1610230-Shears-Ai-Weiwei-tease At a Brooklyn Museum discussion, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei spoke about art, dissidence, fame, and why he was right to recreate the grimly iconic image of 3-year-old Syrian refugee Aylan Kurdi’s body. Ai Weiwei, introduced at the Brooklyn Museum Saturday afternoon as “the most recognized artist in the word,” was there to perform as an artist. Then things got real. Ai sat down at the Museum, which put on a major retrospective on his work in 2014, to promote his four gallery shows in the city this month in a sit-down with Cuban-born dissident artist Tania Bruguera. http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thedailybeast/articles/~3/BtxeX1Lc664/i-m-an-artist-not-a-priest-ai-weiwei-faces-his-fans-and-critics-in-brooklyn.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Y...
