Any meaningful push for genuine democracy would require a lot more than just electoral reform. We need a change of government: not just a change from the Liberals to Labor, but a change from corporate power to people power.

In the face of the ongoing ecological crisis unleashed by the drive for corporate profits, Resistance: Young Socialist Alliance (RYSA) would like to express our support for the campaign calling on universities and other public institutions to divest from fossil fuels and express our solidarity with students who are locked in the struggle to force universities to divest.

Radical Ideas is a 3-day conference of discussion, debate and ideas for radical change, from December 4-6 in Sydney. The conference will feature a number of special guest speakers, including well-known campaigners involved in various social and environmental movements.

Resistance: Young Socialist Alliance calls for the release of Khalid Ismeth, a socialist student activist who has been imprisoned by the Malaysian state since the 7th of October. He is being held under the undemocratic Sedition Act which criminalises dissent and stifles democracy.

Disproportionately, those forced into homelessness are from the most marginalised communities in our society. Indigenous people and queer youth are among those most affected.

The Socialist Alliance (Australia) adds it voice to the global condemnation of the terror bombing of a peace rally organised by trade unions, NGOs, the Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) and other progressive parties in Ankara on October 10. So far, 128 people have died from this bombing and some 500 have been wounded.

Real self-determination will require radical changes in current approaches that largely fail the First Peoples: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities themselves should be at the forefront of driving these changes.

That is why overarching all of our policies is a fundamental support for treaties. These treaties must make real protections such as land rights and compensation for all land stolen, past, present and in the future, and confirm the principle of self-determination.

This is the first in a series of articles detailing the policies and platform the Socialist Alliance will be taking to the Federal election.

Resistance: Young Socialist Alliance condemns the killing of three Palestinian youth by Israeli security forces and settlers in the past 24 hours. They have joined the nearly 500 Palestinians who have been injured by the Israeli occupation forces since clashes began several days ago.

National co-convener of Resistance Mia Sanders said: “This kit is a joke! If anything, it's the Liberal government's extremist agenda we should be worried about."

"Even if Malcolm Turnbull was to recall this piece of trash, the damage is already done. What a first gaffe as PM this is! Young people, especially those being radicalised by capitalism are well aware of the hypocritical and Orwellian nature of this failing government. The whole country is laughing at this pathetic anti-activist scheme."

I know that we have just switched captains on a leaky boat — appropriate metaphor don’t you think — and the boat hasn’t actually changed. But you have to admit that seeing Abbott’s humiliation was enjoyable.

This was the leader who brought you “Stop the Boats” as an unending mantra whenever he couldn’t think of anything else to say, who attacked unions with joyous fury, denied climate change, cut government services, lied and cheated and sounded like a buffoon every time he opened his mouth.

There are many issues facing young people in or entering the workplace that impact not just on young people but on the broader working class as well. Most young people enter the workforce with no knowledge of legal working conditions, which makes it difficult if not impossible for young workers to speak up when issues in the workplace arise.
