I started school-wide lunch packing initiatives, and then it grew to collecting food and toiletries for women's shelters and other causes. We help fight hunger in our communities by providing for the homeless, food insecure, and foster youth throughout Maryland. Meet the 2020 Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholars
Hi, I'm Caleb Oh.
I'm William Winslow.
I'm Noah Zimmer.
I'm Carson Pazdan.
Hello, I'm Annika Kovar.
Let's stop hunger together.
Let's stop hunger together.
[Both] Together.
We build school pantries.
We run food drives.
We build school gardens.
We partner with others to make an even bigger impact.
We bring people and organizations together to make an even bigger difference.
I actually started doing hunger fighting when I was in grade school. I started out doing Feed My Starving Children. After that, when I was age 14, I started my own charity called, Little Sprouts Garden Gang.
Kids Feeding Kids is a hunger project I started when I was five years old. Now we're doing two food drives yearly. In the fall we have, what's called, the We Scare Hunger event. And then in the spring we have, the Food Drive Thru.
I tried volunteering at a soup kitchen and food pantry in my community and they said I was too young. So I created my own organization, Kid Changemakers.
When I was in first grade we started a food drive, we raise about 1,400 pounds of food. As that grew and grew each year, we started building food gardens at schools in high-need areas so that people could have fresh fruits and vegetables.
Meat Hunger is a buyers group at our local fair auction, where 4-H-ers will put their animals up for the livestock auction. Then the meat and protein that we receive goes to the food bank of northern Indiana.
We can't wait.
We can't wait.
We can't wait for someone else to solve the problem.
Your small actions
Can make a big difference. This type of work started when I was in fourth grade and it started small. Overtime, these projects grew. I started school-wide lunch packing initiatives and then it grew to collecting food and toiletries for women's shelters and other causes.
With my Little Sprouts Garden Gang, I have over 250 Garden Gangs in all 50 states and three provinces of Canada. As soon as more people starting getting involved with it, it just grew.
We were looking for new projects to do and we came across this that we built two of them and we placed them at the churches in high-need areas. We can stock it mostly. Some people come down and will also put some food in there and donate. But it's more like a take what you need, give what you can kind of thing.
Meat Hunger was way more successful than we thought it would be in it's first year. Over the two years that this thing has been active, we've been able to raise 18 tons of meat and also two tons of non-perishable food items. A total of about 72,000 servings.
Throughout the year I usually go in to an elementary school around two to three times a year to talk to the kids about upcoming fundraisers and about making a difference and helping others. And then we usually have two huge food drives. Parents drive in front of elementary schools and drop off groceries and food donations, which then in-turn, feeds people locally here in the Cuba Township.
Every little bit that each of us does
Adds up.
Your small actions
Your small actions
Your small actions can make a big difference.
Any small impact on anyone can really just butterfly effect into something big.
Getting other people to volunteer has been, probably, the biggest drive for me.
It makes me feel really good that I'm making a difference and it's very satisfying to know that you've helped someone.
What's especially kept me going and has inspired me continually is, seeing how this impacts people who then in-turn, want to help the same way that I am.
Anyone can definitely help.
Once you drop one stone in, it creates a ripple effect. But if we all drop stones in, it'll make a splash.
[All] Let's stop hunger together.
If I can do it, so can you.
If I can do it, so can you.
If I can do it, so can you.
If I can do it, so can you.
If I can do this, so can you.

With my Little Sprouts Garden Gang, I have over 250 Garden Gangs in all 50 states in three provinces of Canada. Little kids really love playing in dirt, so, like getting them to go outside and actually plant the gardens is really beneficial for them because they get to learn about how growing plants works, how growing vegetables works.
I also have written a book called "Come and Plant a Garden with Me." I got some really fun pictures in here. Kids really love it. And they always ask me, who's the girl on the front? And I always tell them it's me.
Fighting hunger is really just a ripple effect. When you see touch one person, it goes out and out and out, and it touches so many more people. We can't wait for someone else to solve the problem. Jump in and do it.
I will use this $5,000 grant to support my local food shelf, and I also I'm planning on planting some berry bushes and apple trees. Let's stop hunger together. If I can do it, so can you.

Let's stop hunger together. Every little bit that each of us does adds up. The Stephen J. The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is thrilled to recognize Carson Pazdan as a 2020 Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholar. The Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship program recognizes student innovation and youth led solutions to fight hunger in America.
I'm Carson Pazdan, and I'm a 16-year-old from Barrington, Illinois. Kids Feeding Kids is a hunger project I started when I was five years old. For me personally, my mom has been the biggest inspiration for fighting hunger.
Now we're doing two food drives yearly. In the fall we have what's called the We Scare Hunger event, and then in the spring we have the food drive-thru. Parents drive in front of elementary schools and drop off groceries and food donations, which then in turn, feeds people locally here in the Cuba Township.
Join us and stop hunger. If I can do it so can you. Most satisfying thing about fighting hunger to me personally, is inspiring kids make a difference themselves as well. Throughout the year, I usually go in to an elementary school around two to three times a year to talk to the kids about upcoming fundraisers, and about making a difference and helping others.
We can't wait for someone else to solve this problem. What might feel like a small thing to you is really a big deal.
We wanna say thank you so much to Kids Feeding Kids and Countryside Cares.
The Steven J. Brady scholarship is gonna go right here and filling these shelves up with food. What's especially kept me going, and has inspired me continually is seeing how this impacts people, who then in turn, wanna help the same way that I am.
All it takes to change the world is a good idea and hard work. Let's stop hunger together. Your small actions can make a big difference.

The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is thrilled to recognize Noah Zimmer as a 2020 Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholar. The Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarship program recognizes student innovation and youth led solutions to fight hunger in America.
Hi, I'm Noah Zimmer, I'm 19 years old and my Hunger Fighting Organization is Meat Hunger. Meat Hunger is a buyer's group at our local fair auction, where 4-H'ers will put their animals up for the livestock auction, and through that, we then have Hoosiers feeding the hungry, take care of all the processing fees of these animals, then the meat and protein that we receive goes to the food bank of Northern Indiana. They have been able to use this protein and meat in their meals that they package for students, especially kids in elementary schools who don't have food from the Friday they get off from school to that Monday. It was way more successful than we thought it would be in its first year.
Over the two years that this thing has been active, we've been able to raise 18 tons of meat and also two tons of non perishable food items, a total of about 72,000 servings for people in our county. Join us, stop hunger! If I can do it, so can you. The most satisfying thing I get out of doing this is helping people who just need help. And who are struggling and trying their best to just get food on the table for either themselves or their families.
The Steven J. Brady grant will definitely help us with $5,000 as an extra 5000 pounds of meat just alone, based on this grant. This will definitely give us something of an edge in this year. It will absolutely blow the other years out of the water, how much we can provide for people.
Any small impact on anyone, can really just butterfly effect into something big. If it was just me, my sister and no one else was helping us with this whole thing, we wouldn't be nearly as impactful as we have been. Let's stop hunger together. Your small actions can make a big difference. Anyone can definitely help by just finding something to contribute. And if you don't know exactly what that is, you can always go to people who are trying to make this difference. Just go to them and ask them what can I do to help and they will definitely have something for you.

My name's Caleb Oh. I've been involved with hunger fighting since I was six years old. This type of work started when I was in 4th grade and it started small. Over time, these projects grew. I started school-wide lunch packing initiatives, and then it grew to collecting food and toiletries for women's shelters and other causes. We help fight hunger in our communities by providing for the homeless, food insecure, and foster youth throughout Maryland. It is our goal to provide opportunities and to inspire youth to serve and fight hunger in their own communities. Let's stop hunger together. Every little bit each one of us does adds up. Getting other people to volunteer has been probably the biggest drive for me. It's really comforting to know that there are other people that have the same passion for fighting hunger and for helping others. I would use the $5,000 Stop Hunger Grant to open a pantry at a local university. I first wanted to serve in my community because I read a biography about the primatologist Jane Goodall. What I was really fascinated by was her Roots and Shoots Foundation. It was inspiring for me that someone I admired, a scientist, could also give back to her communities. And that really inspired me to start doing community service. We can't wait for someone else to solve this problem. If I can do this, so can you. No matter how much you have to give, no matter how much time you have, no matter how old you are. Every little bit, every donation, every volunteer hour makes a big difference, and it's worthwhile.
