Car prices in Iran have skyrocketed since April 2011. When prices passed the thirty percent increase mark; the government intervened but only managed to decrease the prices 10 to 15 percent. Second only to the oil and gas sector, auto-manufacturing is a major industrial sector in Iran which has placed the country among the top ten largest auto makers in Asia and is known to be the biggest in the Middle East. Soaring prices forced Iran's major auto-makers, Iran Khodro and Saipa, to reduce production and sales. Observers point to several factors as the reasons for the escalating prices including: the depreciation of the Iranian currency, government mismanagement, and the lack of price regulations that would allow comprehensive controls over the automobile market. The escalating prices also prompted the parliament to step in. Minister of Industry Mine and Trade, Mehdi Ghazanfari was summoned to respond to the MPs. Eventually, the Competition Committee was ordered to devise a formula to determine car-prices. In this edition of the show we are taking a closer look at Iran's automotive industry. We will investigate the reasons behind the recent price hike, and discuss the measures taken by the government to tackle the problem. "Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks discusses the advertisement made by former senators that shows what they think will happen if current Iran negotiations succeeds. A number of former senators created and funded by the American Security Initiative, a defense contractor created the advertisement for a reported $500,000. The ad features a van that moves through New York City until it comes to a parking lot and explodes into a title that demands viewers contact people in Washington D.C. to ask President Barack Obama not to negotiate with Iran. This video is seen as propaganda that attempts to undermine nuclear talks with Iran that are currently on going in Sweden. The nuclear talks between the U.S. and its allies and Iran have the expected out come to reduce Iran's nuclear program and keep nuclear weapons out of their hands." Part 2: http://youtu.be/b2oICRgi6wI Located in the heart of the Middle East, Iran holds some of the world’s largest deposits of oil and natural gas. In 2013, the country produced 3.2 million barrels per day of petroleum to remain among the top 10 oil producers in the world. While the all-out sanctions imposed by the US and the EU are still hampering Iran’s oil industry, the country’s petrochemical industry has seen major growth in both sales and exports in recent months. On this edition of Iran Today, we discuss the advances in Iran’s petrochemical industry and its agility in overcoming the sanctions. These days, economic development is a priority for most countries. To achieve this goal, governments make long-term investments in education, research and development projects. As a developing country, Iran, too, knows how important investing in these areas is, and has been doing so for years. Significant progress has been made as a result, but the politicians are still worried that universities and industries are not collaborating as closely as they should. In this edition of Iran today, we discuss the Iranian government’s efforts to link the country’s education system more closely with the industry sector. "Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks discusses Senator Tom Cotton's defense of the GOP's threatening letter to the Iranian leadership about nuclear negations. A letter written by Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton and signed by forty-six other senators was sent to the Iranian leadership earlier this week that threatens a possible international agreement that the Obama administration is attempting to reach. With the deadline looming on March 24 this has seen as active sabotage and possibly even treason in a move that has never been seen by the Senate in the entire history of the United States. Cotton went out of his way to defend the move of the GOP and his letter, condemning Obama's moves for everything dealing with Iran thus far." Was the GOP letter to Iran treason? Iran has unveiled two new domestic military achievements, namely the Falaq (twilight) rocket system and Zafar(victory) tactical vehicle. The military hardware was unveiled during a ceremony at Iran’s Defense Industry Organization on Thursday. “The Falaq rocket system is an efficient ground combat weapon which has an instrumental role in the provision of heavy fire,” Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said on the sidelines of the ceremony. A high maneuvering capability, rapid deployment and firing, the ability to conduct shock operations and repositioning capability in hardly negotiable areas are the features of the system, Dehqan said. The Iranian official also described the system’s capability to destroy enemy targets within a radius of 10 kilometers as one of the unique features of Falaq. Military units can use Falaq 1 and Falaq 2 rockets which enjoy heavy fire capability to target enemy posts, the Iranian defense minister said. Elaborating on the capabilities of the first 8x8 tactical vehicle, Dehqan said, “This vehicle is capable of carrying various launchers, missiles, radars, rockets and command posts.” “This vehicle is equipped with a protection system used in modern warfare,” he added. By manufacturing such systems and vehicles, said the defense chief, Iran’s needs for heavy military machinery will be met. On September 23, the Islamic Republic unveiled its first home-made unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) armed with air defense missiles, which is suitable for aerial combats. Earlier in September, Iran also unveiled two domestically developed state-of-the-art radar systems dubbed Arash-2 and Kayhan, which can detect stealth aircraft and long-distance targets. Iran has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country. CITIES The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastrian site of the Towers of Silence, the magnificent Friday Mosque and a number of beautiful palaces and gardens. Shiraz meanwhile is a lovely university town, known as the city of poets, wine, literature and flowers, and is a real delight. I particularly loved visiting the atmospheric tomb of the Persian poet Hafez. In the evenings it has a magical atmosphere as people gather to read poetry and celebrate the life of this revered poet. Shiraz is also blessed with numerous picturesque mosques and beautiful gardens. The jewel in the Persian crown is undoubtedly the beautiful city of Esfahan, which has one of the largest squares in the world in the breathtaking Naqsh Jahan Square and probably the most stunning Islamic architecture found anywhere. Esfahan is unbelievably picturesque, with its famed bridges and lively bazaars. ANCIENT SITES Iran has a long and rich history, with the Persian Empire at one point ruling over 44% of the world's population. The country is home to some world-class archaeological sites, including the rock-carved tombs of Nagsh e Rostam, where Darius the great is buried, and the spectacular Achamaenid palace complex at Persepolis. This ancient palace was built by Darius the Great to celebrate events such as the Persian New Year, when representatives from the four corners of the empire would congregate. This vast site merits at least a couple of hours to explore the ruins and bas reliefs. SCENERY But it's not only about the cities and ancient sites, the scenery of Iran is an unexpected highlight. From beautiful picnic spots such as the Murgon Waterfalls, to fertile valleys in the Bavanat Mountains, where you can encounter Kashqai nomads and see a way of life that has changed little over centuries. In the Dena mountains around Yasuj you'll find an alpine scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes and streams. It is well worth spending some time away from the better-known cultural sites to explore this lesser-known side of Iran. It really is a beautiful country. THE PEOPLE The people of Iran are another real highlight, being welcoming and keen to engage in conversation about everything from politics to football. You are likely to be surrounded by schoolkids asking you questions, offered tea and invited to share in picnics with the locals pretty much wherever you go. If ever a people were misrepresented by a regime it would be the Iranians. Thanks to a baby boom in the 80's, over 60% of its 70 million population are aged under 30. This generation is well-educated, worldly, and exposed to global media through the internet. Walking around the streets -- which are incidentally very safe - this certainly feels like a nation on the cusp of change. So forget about any preconceptions you may have about safety, security, or the welcome you'll receive in Iran. I've found the people to be the friendliest and most hospitable I've found anywhere in the world. So check out Wild Frontiers' tours to Iran and discover for yourself this fascinating country.

http://thefilmarchive.org/ February 28, 2012 Chrysler Group LLC is an American-based, multinational automaker, in global strategic alliance with its majority owner, Italian manufacturer Fiat, since 2009. Chrysler was first organized as the Chrysler Corporation in 1925.[2] Its core brands which it produces are Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, SRT, Fiat, and Mopar vehicles and products. The Company is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, United States.[3] On June 10, 2009, Chrysler LLC emerged from a government backed Chapter 11 reorganization as Chrysler Group LLC, in alliance with the Italian automaker Fiat.[4][5] Initially holding a 20% interest in Chrysler Group, Fiat's stake was increased to 58.5% (fully diluted) following acquisition of the equity interests held by the U.S. Treasury (6% on June 3, 2011) and Canada (1.5% on July 21, 2011)[6][7][8][9][10] The stake was further increased to 61.8% in July 2012.[11] In 2011, Chrysler unveiled their new "Imported From Detroit" campaign with ads featuring Detroit rapper Eminem, one of which aired during the Super Bowl. The campaign highlights the rejuvenation of the entire product lineup, which includes the new, redesigned and repackaged 2011 200 sedan and 200 convertible, the Chrysler 300 sedan and the Chrysler Town & Country minivan.[46][47] As part of the campaign, Chrysler sold a line of clothing items featuring the Monument to Joe Louis, with proceeds being funneled to Detroit-area charities, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Michigan, Habitat for Humanity Detroit and the Marshal Mathers Foundation.[48] Following the Eminem ad, there was also an ad for Detriot Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh driving a Chrysler 300 to Portland, Or., to visit his mother, an ad featuring Detroit-born fashion designer John Varvatos cruising through a shadowy Gotham while Kevin Yon's familiar baritone traces the designer's genesis.[49] In March 2011, Chrysler Group LLC filed a lawsuit against Moda Group LLC (owner of Pure Detroit clothing retailer) for copying and selling merchandise with the "Imported from Detroit" slogan.[50] Chrysler claimed it had notified defendant of its pending trademark application February 14, but the defendant argued Chrysler had not secured a trademark for the "Imported From Detroit" phrase. On June 18, 2011, U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow ruled that Chrysler's request didn't show that it would suffer irreparable harm or that it had a strong likelihood of winning its case. Therefore Pure Detroit's owner, Detroit retailer Moda Group LLC, can continue selling its "Imported from Detroit" products. Tarnow also noted that Chrysler doesn't have a trademark on "Imported from Detroit" and rejected the automaker's argument that trademark law isn't applicable to the case.[51][52] In March 2012, Chrysler Group LLC and Pure Detroit agreed to a March 27 mediation to try to settle the lawsuit over the clothing company's use of "Imported from Detroit" slogan.[53] Pure Detroit stated that Chrysler has made false claims about the origins of three vehicles - Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300 and Chrysler Town & Country - none of which are built in Detroit. Pure Detroit also said that Chrysler's Imported From Detroit merchandise is not being made in Detroit. In 2011, Eminem settled a lawsuit against Audi alleging the defendant had ripped off the Chrysler 300 Super Bowl commercial in the Audi A6 Avant ad.[54] Again in 2012, Chrysler advertised during the Super Bowl. Its two-minute February 5, 2012 Super Bowl XLVI advertisement was titled "Half Time in America". The ad drew criticism from several leading U.S. conservatives, who suggested that its messaging implied that President Obama deserved a second term and, as such, was political payback for Obama's support for the federal bailout of the company.[55] Asked about the criticism in a 60 Minutes interview with Steve Kroft, Sergio Marchionne responded "just to rectify the record I paid back the loans at 19.7% Interest. I don't think I committed to do to a commercial on top of that" and characterized the Republican reaction as "unnecessary and out of place".[56] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler

Iran is an energy superpower and the Petroleum industry in Iran plays an important part in it. In 2004 Iran produced 5.1 percent of the world's total crude oil (3.9 million barrels (620,000 m3) per day), which generated revenues of US$25 billion to US$30 billion and was the country's primary source of foreign currency. At 2006 levels of production, oil proceeds represented about 18.7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). However, the importance of the hydrocarbon sector to Iran's economy has been far greater. The oil and gas industry has been the engine of economic growth, directly affecting public development projects, the government's annual budget, and most foreign exchange sources. In FY 2009, for example, the sector accounted for 60 percent of total government revenues and 80 percent of the total annual value of both exports and foreign currency earnings. Oil and gas revenues are affected by the value of crude oil on the international market. It has been estimated that at the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota level (December 2004), a one-dollar change in the price of crude oil on the international market would alter Iran's oil revenues by US$1 billion. In 2012, Iran, which exports around 1.5 million barrels of crude oil a day, was the second-largest exporter among the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. In the same year, officials in Iran estimate that Iran's annual oil and gas revenues could reach $250 billion by 2015. Iran plans to invest a total of $500 billion in the oil sector before 2025. Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Persian: نيروهای مسلح جمهوری اسلامی ايران) include the IRIA (ارتش جمهوری اسلامی ایران), the IRGC (سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی) and the Law Enforcement Force(نيروی انتظامی جمهوری اسلامی ایران). These forces total about 545,000 active personnel (not including the Law Enforcement Force). All branches of armed forces fall under the command of General Headquarters of Armed Forces (ستاد کل نیروهای مسلح). The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics is responsible for planning logistics and funding of the armed forces and is not involved with in-the-field military operational command. Defense industry Under the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Iran's military industry was limited to assembly of foreign weapons. In the assembly lines that were put up by American firms, such as Bell, Litton and Northrop, Iranian workers put together a variety of helicopters, aircraft, guided missiles, electronic components and tanks. In 1973 the Iran Electronics Industries (IEI) was established. The company was set up in a first attempt to organize the assembly and repair of foreign-delivered weapons. The Iranian Defense Industries Organization was the first to succeed in taking a step into what could be called a military industry by reverse engineering Soviet RPG-7, BM-21, and SAM-7 missiles in 1979. Nevertheless, most of Iran's weapons before the Islamic revolution were imported from the United States and Europe. Between 1971 and 1975, the Shah went on a buying spree, ordering $8 billion in weapons from the United States alone. This alarmed the United States Congress, which strengthened a 1968 law on arms exports in 1976 and renamed it the Arms Export Control Act. Still, the United States continued to sell large amounts of weapons to Iran until the 1979 Islamic Revolution. After the Islamic revolution, Iran found itself severely isolated and lacking technological expertise. Because of economic sanctions and a weapons embargo put on Iran by the United States, it was forced to rely on its domestic arms industry for weapons and spare parts, since there were very few countries willing to do business with Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards were put in charge of creating what is today known as the Iranian military industry. Under their command, Iran's military industry was enormously expanded, and with the Ministry of Defense pouring investment into the missile industry, Iran soon accumulated a vast arsenal of missiles. Since 1992, it also claiming has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, radar systems, guided missiles, submarines, military vessels and fighter planes, but again no one saw them or confirmed. In recent years, official announcements have highlighted the development of weapons such as the Fajr-3 (MIRV), Hoot, Kowsar, Fateh-110, Shahab-3 missile systems and a variety of unmanned aerial vehicles, at least one of which Israel claims has been used to spy on its territory. In 2006, an Iranian UAV acquired and allegedly tracked the American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan for 25 minutes without being detected, before returning safely to its base. On November 2, 2012, Iran's Brigadier General Hassan Seifi reported that the Iranian Army had achieved self-suffiency in producing military equipment, and that the abilities of Iranian scientists have enabled the country to make significant progress in this field. He was quoted saying, "Unlike Western countries which hide their new weapons and munitions from all, the Islamic Republic of Iran's Army is not afraid of displaying its latest military achievements and all countries must become aware of Iran's progress in producing weaponry ,yet again not confirmed or seen any of their production other than one prototype. The west considers this claims just for propaganda and show." UAV program Iran has produced several domestically developed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which can be used for reconnaissance and combat operations. Iran have also captured US crashed drones. Ballistic program Main article: Iran's missile forces On November 2, 2006, Iran fired unarmed missiles to begin 10 days of military simulations. Iranian state television reported "dozens of missiles were fired including Shahab-2 and Shahab-3 missiles. The missiles had ranges from 300 km to up to 2,000 km. Iranian experts have made some changes to Shahab-3 missiles installing cluster warheads in them with the capacity to carry 1,400 bombs." These launches come after some United States-led military exercises in the Persian Gulf on October 30, 2006, meant to train for blocking the transport of weapons of mass destruction.

Iran's 2007 defense budget was estimated to be $11.096 billion by SIPRI (2.5% of GDP). Per capita or percentage of GDP, this was a lower figure than for other Persian Gulf states. Under the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Iran's military industry was limited to assembly of foreign weapons. March 11, 2015 (Persian calendar 1393/12/20) Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan سردار سرتيپ حسين دهقان inaugurated a T-300 carbon fiber factory as part of a plan the ministry follows to access industrial self-sufficiency. The Iranian commander said that his ministry is resolved to produce the required defense material locally, adding, “Increasing production of such strategic materials will meet defense industry's needs and meantime will provide large amount of the country’s civilian demands.” Dehqan further added that carbon fibers are used in auto manufacturing, offshore platforms, digging, oil and gas extraction, wagon train, wind turbines, sporting goods, boats and bicycles, retrofitting old building and reinforcing concrete and building material. He went on to say that the machinery and equipment of the firm have been entirely designed and built by the Iranian experts. Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980 - 88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.
http://thefilmarchive.org/ May 22, 2012 Sustainable energy is the sustainable provision of energy that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Technologies that promote sustainable energy include renewable energy sources, such as hydroelectricity, solar energy, wind energy, wave power, geothermal energy, and tidal power, and also technologies designed to improve energy efficiency. Third-generation technologies are not yet widely demonstrated or commercialised. They are on the horizon and may have potential comparable to other renewable energy technologies, but still depend on attracting sufficient attention and RD&D; funding. These newest technologies include advanced biomass gasification, biorefinery technologies, solar thermal power stations, hot dry rock geothermal energy, and ocean energy. —International Energy Agency, RENEWABLES IN GLOBAL ENERGY SUPPLY, An IEA Fact Sheet[6] Bio-fuels may be defined as "renewable," yet may... not be "sustainable," due to soil degradation. As of 2012, 40% of Americas corn production goes toward ethanol. Ethanol takes up a large percentage of "Clean Energy Use" when in fact, it is still debatable whether ethanol should be considered as a "Clean Energy."[3] According to the International Energy Agency, new bioenergy (biofuel) technologies being developed today, notably cellulosic ethanol biorefineries, could allow biofuels to play a much bigger role in the future than previously thought.[31] Cellulosic ethanol can be made from plant matter composed primarily of inedible cellulose fibers that form the stems and branches of most plants. Crop residues (such as corn stalks, wheat straw and rice straw), wood waste, and municipal solid waste are potential sources of cellulosic biomass. Dedicated energy crops, such as switchgrass, are also promising cellulose sources that can be sustainably produced in many regions of the United States.[32] In terms of Ocean energy, another third-generation technology, Portugal has the world's first commercial wave farm, the Aguçadora Wave Park, under construction in 2007. The farm will initially use three Pelamis P-750 machines generating 2.25 MW.[34][35] and costs are put at 8.5 million euro. Subject to successful operation, a further 70 million euro is likely to be invested before 2009 on a further 28 machines to generate 525 MW.[36] Funding for a wave farm in Scotland was announced in February, 2007 by the Scottis
TEHRAN: Iran on Saturday inaugurated a plant for producing carbon fibre, which it is banned from importing by international sanctions targeting dual-use materials, the official IRNA news agency reported. “Today we are witnessing the fulfilment of a strategic project of the Ministry of Defence,” Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said as he inaugurated the production facility, IRNA reported. “We are among 10 nations producing (carbon fibre),” he added. “All of the design- and manufacturing phases of the machinery for carbon fibre production have been carried out in the ministry of defence,” Vahidi added. “Not only the manufacturing technology but the carbon fibre itself was on the list of the sanctioned materials,” he said. The “restrictions challenged us to build advanced defence systems,” Vahidi added, referring to an international embargo against dual-use goods that can be used for conventional weapons and in the nuclear industry. Iran has been slapped by four sets of UN sanctions and additional sanctions by its arch-foe Washington, and the European Union, over its controversial nuclear programme.
Iran’s domestically-made destroyer, Damavand دماوند, has officially joined the Navy’s fleet in the Caspian Sea درياي خزر north of the country. The country’s state-of-the-art training frigate, equipped with modern radar, electronic and reconnaissance systems, was delivered to the Iranian naval forces stationed in the northern port city of Anzali بندر انزلي in a ceremony on Monday. High-ranking Iranian officials, including Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani علي شمخاني, Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan سرتيپ حسين دهقان and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari دريابان حبيب الله سياري attended the ceremony. Speaking at the event, Shamkhani described the Caspian Sea as a sea of peace and friendship, saying the Islamic Republic has played a unique role in providing security, particularly energy security in the sea. The Caspian Sea is bounded by Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan Republic, Iran, and Turkmenistan Also Sayyari said Damavand is a Jamaran-class destroyer which is more sophisticated than Jamaran جماران. Earlier in May 204, Sayyari said the Damavand frigate is equipped with advanced sea-launched drones as well as cruise missiles. The Iranian commander said that efforts have been made to employ cutting-edge technology in building the frigate, stressing that Damavand would also be equipped with more advanced cruise missiles than those of domestically designed and built Jamaran frigate. The Iranian Navy launched its first domestically-built frigate, Jamaran, in the waters of the Persian Gulf خليج فارس in February 2010. The 1,420-ton frigate is equipped with modern radar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities and has a top speed of up to 30 knots and a helipad. The vessel, equipped with torpedoes and modern naval cannons, also features highly advanced anti-aircraft, anti-surface and anti-subsurface missile systems. Damavand, however, is longer but lighter than Jamaran frigate and is capable of tracking and targeting aerial, surface and sub-surface targets simultaneously. It is equipped with a cruise missile system, torpedo launchers, 40-mm and 76-mm cannons, radar processing systems as well as tactical surface and aerial radars.

Iran (i/ɪˈrɑːn/ or /aɪˈræn/;Persian: ایران [ʔiˈɾɒn] ( listen)), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (Persian: جمهوری اسلامی ایران Jomhuri-ye Eslāmi-ye Irān), is a country in Southern and Western Asia. The name "Iran", which in Persian means "Land of the Aryans", has been in use natively since the Sassanian era. It came into use internationally in 1935, before which the country was known to the Western world as Persia ( /ˈpɜrʒə/ or /ˈpɜrʃə/). Both "Persia" and "Iran" are used interchangeably in cultural contexts; however, "Iran" is the name used officially in political contexts.
The 18th-largest country in the world in terms of area at 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), Iran has a population of around 79 million. It is a country of particular geopolitical significance owing to its location in the Middle East and central Eurasia. Iran is bordered on the north by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. As Iran is a littoral state of the Caspian Sea, which is an inland sea, Kazakhstan and Russia are also Iran's direct neighbors to the north. Iran is bordered on the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, on the west by Iraq and on the northwest by Turkey. Tehran is the capital, the country's largest city and the political, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the nation. Iran is a regional power, and holds an important position in international energy security and world economy as a result of its large reserves of petroleum and natural gas. Iran has the second largest proven natural gas reserves in the world and the fourth largest proven petroleum reserves.
