Has Big Bang Theory Cast New Love Interests for Sheldon and Amy?

Is The Big Bang Theory about to give us “The New Love Interests Initiation”?

The CBS comedy has cast Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies) and Analeigh Tipton (Manhattan Love Story) as Season 9 guest stars, TVLine has confirmed.

While the network would not confirm who Merchant and Tipton will be playing, reports from audience members who attended the taping of Episode 9 suggest they’ll appear as respective dates for the recently broken-up Amy and Sheldon.

Tipton — who just recently guested on CBS’ Limitless (alongside her Manhattan Love Story costar, Jake McDorman) — cameo’d on Big Bang seven years ago, as herself, in an America’s Next Top Model-related storyline. The actress got her start, of course, as a contestant on the CW’s mannequin-tastic reality show.

Time to get rid of Amy tbh. I don’t really see a point in her character uf she’s not with Sheldon anymore

  2. Bella says:

I like Amy a lot and don’t see them getting rid of her. She and Sheldon will be getting together again down the road. The first thing I saw Analeigh in was Crazy Stupid Love, a great m.

  3. Alwayshappyz says:

I was at the taping of episode 8 and both guest stars were in that episode (taping was yesterday). The article is right..they are love interests, but only for one episode. Tipton was just in one scene. Won’t spoil anything more though.

  4. Thomas hunter says:

Overall, at this point the show has too many characters that they shoehorn together each week. Outside of the original 5, the rest should all be recurring. Too much time forcing in Amy, Bernedette and Stewart.

The main focus has been lost

I’m with you on stewart. I preferred him (and kate) as minor characters

    • Patrick says:

I like Bernie well enough, or I did until they started making her a hateful shrew on occasion. But she adds a lot.

      • Snsetblaze says:

If you watch her in an early episode, she does not even have the same voice.

        • Television says:

ikr, so many characters have changed too much. penny and leonard have changed a LOT. penny doesnt even seem like the same person.

          • robandco says:

I believe it’s called character development.
Leonard and Penny well the show is about them too (people often believe it’s the Sheldon Cooper show but it really isn’t) and how both of their worlds help them be better persons. So it is understandable and sort of the point of the show (like the big bang, particles from everywhere in space colliding into one gigantic explosion that created a whole new different world).
Many believe Sheldon has changed but really he is as annoying and funny as ever.
Bernadette and Amy’s characters had to be readjusted in order to be funnier so they could be included in the main cast because they were initially thought as small arcs, both their original characters wouldn’t have fit in the group, Bernadette was too bland and normal and Amy was way too weird (like current Stuart for example).

  5. Sheila says:

    Ooh, I love Stephen Merchant!

  6. Norma says:

Amy needs to go. She no longer adds anything
Sheldon needs someone different than themselves……he and Amy have dragged out too long.

    • Lyn says:

ITA Sheldon has Asperger’s and Amy needs therapy. They are NOT a match. Stuart is pathetic and makes everyone uncomfortable including the viewers.

  7. Waldo says:

Who are they kidding? EVERYONE knows the “breakup” won’t last. They’re just stalling for time

  8. stacy says:

I think Amy and Sheldon should get back 2gether. Their relationship is more interesting and comical than the others. They make the show.

    • Dan says:

I agree! I don’t understand why they broke up Sheldon and Amy, especially after all these years. They were the only interesting couple on the show. I’d rather see any of the other relationships go.

      • John NYC says:

Given his socialization issues some sort of pause makes sense, he’s a tough one to be in a relationship with so Amy grew to the point she wanted some distance. Quite logical, IMHO.

  9. Steve says:

This is so disappointing. These two used to be a different kind of relationships from others on tv and they were one of the few things that made last season worth watching, and now they are just another romcom pairing with this breakup drama and now they get new love interests too? Sheldon dating another woman, especially?? These writers have surely run out of juice. Time to pack up their bags and go home.

    • Lucy says:

I agree a 100%. I believe the writers ran out of story lines and now they are all over the place. They should concentrate on what they created that make us watch the show. Amy and Sheldon. I believe they are on their last leg writing for this show. Need fresh writers that can fix it. Out with the writers before they cause more damage to the Show.

      • Mario D. says:

Agree, they need some fresh story lines. Amy/Sheldon is the main focal point for this year so they have to stretch it out abit. Look at what happened with Penny/Leonard. Now that they are married they are hardly in any scenes together

    • robandco says:

Yes. I can see why Amy would want to move on to something different. She broke up with Sheldon and she clearly has needs that Sheldon doesn’t provide. But Sheldon looking for another woman is preposterous and out of character.
I think they need to start alternating the stories and characters. And get rid of Stuart who is useless and such a waste of screentime.

      • Spook says:

The problem is that Amy wasn’t created to be like this. She was a female Sheldon and was created specifically to be his perfect match and to sort of say that the only way Sheldon would entertain a relationship is with someone somewhat like him. They worked because he COULD fulfil her needs in his own way, meet her halfway, and even if their relationship wasn’t conventional it worked for them and they slowly progressed that way. And it was funny to watch everyone else be weirded out by them. It’s what made them different and fun to watch. “Normalizing” Amy as much as they did, to want something Sheldon can’t provide to the point that she wants to move on to something else, takes away everything that made them/Amy unique. I get changing her a little, because she was too much like Sheldon at the beginning and they don’t need two identical characters. I get character development. And I get a bit of conflict and tension here and there to keep the story interesting. But this is way too much. This whole breakup melodrama is unimaginative and does not fit these characters, not to mention, it’s repetitive stuff they have done already with Leonard and Penny. There’s no fresh idea here, all the couples look the same. I think the writers need to go have a good rewatch of earlier seasons to get themselves back on track before this turns into another trite relationship that is just like hundreds of others on television.

        • robandco says:

I completely agree. She is the character that has changed the most I’d say. But I didn’t think it bothered me until the breakup (which is ridiculous). I sort of get that she’d want more out of the relationship seeing how happy and fulfilled her friends who are dating/married to ‘normal’ people. But I think they need to slowly bring the old Amy back, the one that trains monkey to smoke, that has a thing for Penny and who’s obsessed with Sheldon’s genius. But Sheldon has to be the one initiating the reconciliation because he is clearly the problem.

  10. Mary russell says:

Please put Sheldon back with Amy.

  11. Christian says:

I’m reading a lot of dissatisfaction among fans for this show … couldn’t agree more. It appears past its prime and threatens to overstay its welcome with a few more seasons. Nothing more to tell with these characters. Writers have become lazy.

  12. LadyDy says:

I love the actress and her character. The writers will keep her.

  13. Lynne Powell says:

Sounds hilarious. That should shake things up for everybody!! Can’t wait.

  14. Melissa cox says:

No, I am so upset! I want that storyline to go back. Got enough of Leonard and Penny breaking. You all have done that to deatb.

  15. K1274 says:

Don’t ask for a raise….That’s how they kill off the catheter in the show..
