Zeus or Dyaus Pita, the first god of the Rig Veda, was "a box office disaster". Another god who started off as "an unrecognised dark-skinned folk hero in 7th century BC" rose to superstar status though ignored by painters and sculptors. Wry humour and tongue-in-cheek references marked Jawhar Sircar's lecture on Krishna's Long Journey from Sacred Texts to Visual Arts at the Victoria Memorial Hall recently. ....
