"On Sunday, Minnesota Senator Al Franken appeared on CNN's "State Of The Union" with Candy Crowley and launched into a ripping critique of Texas Senator Ted Cruz's net neutrality position, basically saying that Cruz doesn't understand the issue at all.
Following President Obama's November 10 statement urging the FCC to enforce regulations to protect net neutrality, Senator Cruz wrote a strong-minded opinion in the Washington Post.
"In short, net neutrality is Obamacare for the Internet. It would put the government in charge of determining Internet pricing, terms of service and what types of products and services can be delivered, leading to fewer choices, fewer opportunities and higher prices," Cruz said in the Washington Post.

Key quote from Senator Al Franken (D-MN)
This agreement is, in my opinion, the most effective, realistic option available to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon anytime in the next 15 years and beyond. Iran must never, ever have a nuclear weapon. And after 15 years, we will still have every option we currently have, up to and including the use of military force, to prevent Iran from getting a bomb. Moreover, while critics have eagerly pointed out what they see as flaws in the deal, I have heard no persuasive arguments that there is a better alternative.
The agreement imposes a series of physical limits on Iran's nuclear program, especially its production of the fissile material it would require to make a bomb. And the agreement's verification provisions are extremely strong: 24/7 monitoring of, and unfettered access to, Iran's nuclear sites and ongoing surveillance of Iran's nuclear supply chain. Let me briefly review the central limits on its nuclear program that Iran has agreed to and the verification provisions. Together they are designed to prevent Iran from trying to get a nuclear weapon and to detect them if they do with enough time to respond forcefully and effectively.
The agreement will prevent Iran from using weapons-grade plutonium as the fissile material for a nuclear weapon by requiring Iran to redesign and rebuild the Arak nuclear reactor, which if completed as planned, could have produced enough weapons-grade plutonium for one or two bombs each year. Under the agreement, it won’t be able to do that. Iran has to pull out the core of the reactor and fill it with concrete to destroy it. And Iran can’t get any sanctions relief until it does that.
The agreement also very significantly reduces and limits Iran’s production of uranium, which, in its highly enriched form, can also be used in a bomb. Iran currently has about 19,500 centrifuges capable of enriching uranium. And it has stockpiled about 10 tons of low-enriched uranium. Under the agreement, Iran has to go down to about 5,000 first-generation centrifuges enriching uranium and down to 300 kilograms of low-enriched uranium – a 98 percent reduction. And Iran doesn’t get any sanctions relief until it does that.
Right now, it would take Iran about 2-3 months to get one weapon’s worth of weapons-grade uranium. That is called the breakout time. The longer the breakout time, the better. And this agreement will increase the breakout time to one year for the first decade. And because of the inspections included in the agreement, if Iran tried to cheat at their nuclear facilities and dash for a bomb, we would catch them almost instantaneously and have more than enough time to respond effectively. Iran’s nuclear facilities will be subject to 24/7 monitoring and unfettered access by the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA. The limitations on Iran’s nuclear facilities and the strict verification make it impossible for Iran to dash for a bomb at its known nuclear facilities for the next fifteen years.
But the verification provisions are also important for another reason - they make it much more difficult for Iran to be able to go for a bomb in secret as well. Beyond the 24/7 monitoring of, and unfettered access to, Iran's nuclear sites, international inspectors will also be guaranteed access to any site in Iran that they have suspicions about, including military sites.

Bill O'Reilly vs. Al Franken: Books, Education, Political Views, History (2003) William James Bill O'Reilly, Jr. (born September 10, 1949) is an American television host, author, syndicated columnist and political commentator.[2] He is the host of the political commentary program The O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News Channel.[3][4][5] During the late 1970s and 1980s, he worked as a news reporter for various local television stations in the United States and eventually for CBS News and ABC News. From 1989 to 1995, he was anchor of the entertainment news program Inside Edition. O'Reilly is widely considered a conservative commentator,[6][7][8] though some of his positions diverge from conservative orthodoxy.[9][10] O'Reilly is a registered Independent (See: Political views of Bill O'Reilly) and characterizes himself as a traditionalist.[11][12] O'Reilly is the author of over a dozen books, and hosted The Radio Factor until early 2009. After Harvard, he was hired by Roger Ailes, chairman and CEO of the then startup Fox News Channel, to anchor The O'Reilly Report in October 1996.[38] The show was renamed The O'Reilly Factor, after O'Reilly's friend and branding expert John Tantillo's remarks upon the O'Reilly Factor in any of the stories O'Reilly told.[38][39][40] The program is routinely the highest-rated show of the three major U.S. 24-hour cable news television channels and began the trend toward more opinion-oriented prime-time cable news programming.[41] The show is taped late in the afternoon at a studio in New York City and airs every weekday on the Fox News Channel at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is rebroadcast at 11:00 p.m. Until early 2009, O'Reilly hosted a radio program that had more than 3.26 million listeners and was carried by more than 400 radio stations.[42] According to the talk radio industry publication Talkers Magazine, O'Reilly was No. 11 on the Heavy Hundred, a list of the 100 most important talk show hosts in America.[43] Conservative Internet news site NewsMax 's Top 25 Talk Radio Host list selected O'Reilly to the No. 2 spot as most influential host in the nation.[44] O'Reilly's life and career have not been without controversy. Progressive media watchdog organizations such as Media Matters and Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting have criticized O'Reilly's reporting on a variety of issues, accusing him of distorting facts and using misleading or erroneous statistics.[45] After the September 11 attacks, O'Reilly accused the United Way of America and American Red Cross of failing to deliver millions of dollars in donated money, raised by the organizations in the name of the disaster, to the families of those killed in the attacks.[46] O'Reilly reported that the organizations misrepresented their intentions for the money being raised by not distributing all of the 9/11 relief fund to the victims. Actor George Clooney responded, accusing O'Reilly of misstating facts and harming the relief effort by inciting panic among potential donors.[47] Beginning in 2005, O'Reilly periodically denounced George Tiller, a Kansas-based physician who specialized in second- and third-trimester abortions,[48] often referring to him as Tiller the baby killer.[49] Tiller was murdered on May 31, 2009, by Scott Roeder, an anti-abortion activist.[50] Critics such as Salon.com's Gabriel Winant have asserted that O'Reilly's anti-Tiller rhetoric helped to create an atmosphere of violence around the doctor.[51] Jay Bookman of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote that O'Reilly clearly went overboard in his condemnation and demonization of Tiller, but added that it was irresponsible to link O'Reilly to Tiller's murder.[52] O'Reilly has responded to the criticism by saying no backpedaling here every single thing we said about Tiller was true.[53] In early 2007, researchers from the Indiana University School of Journalism published a report that analyzed O'Reilly's Talking Points Memo segment. Using analysis techniques developed in the 1930s by the Institute for Propaganda Analysis, the study concluded that O'Reilly used propaganda, frequently engaged in name calling, and consistently cast non-Americans as threats and never in the role of victim or hero.[54][dead link][55] O'Reilly responded, asserting that the terms 'conservative', 'liberal', 'left', 'right', 'progressive', 'traditional' and 'centrist' were considered name-calling if they were associated with a problem or social ill. The study's authors said that those terms were only considered name-calling when linked to derogatory qualifiers.[56] Fox News producer Ron Mitchell wrote an op-ed in which he accused the study's authors of seeking to manipulate their research to fit a predetermined outcome. Mitchell argued that by using tools developed for examining propaganda, the researchers presupposed t

The Inside Story of the Making and Unmaking of the Al Franken Presidency (1999)

Why Not Me? The Inside Story of the Making and Unmaking of the Franken Presidency is a satirical novel by comedian (and future United States Senator) Al Franken, detailing his unlikely candidacy to become the President of the United States in the 2000 Presidential Election. The book was published in 1999.
In the novel, Franken bases his campaign on the issues of eliminating high ATM fees and the deregulation of banking laws (which would benefit insurance companies). Through various illegal and unethical activities, he eventually manages to fluster his Democratic rival, Al Gore, and wins the Democratic nomination. Franken is elected due in part to massive feuding within the Republican Party. However, a serious gaffe committed by Franken during his inauguration speech causes Franken to become manic depressive, causing him to display strange and dangerous behavior. After the embarrassing contents of his campaign diary are disclosed, Franken is forced to resign from office.
Characters
Otto Franken – Al's violent and alcoholic (fictional) brother, who attacks members of the press with two-by-fours and disguises himself and uses aliases like "Dotto Dranken", "Botto Branken" and "Klotto Klanken" to mock Al Gore.
Dan Haggerty – TV's Grizzly Adams, whom the campaign uses for celebrity endorsement.
Norm Ornstein – A well-respected fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and friend of Franken. He is the campaign manager, and later the White House chief of staff.
Howard Fineman – former Newsweek reporter who is goaded into being the Franken campaign's public relations spokesman, and later becomes the White House press secretary.
Dick Morris – A famous pollster for Bill Clinton that joins Franken's campaign to develop strategy and raise money.
Frank Luntz – a Republican pollster who Al thinks is only on the campaign because he's a "starfucker."
Joe Lieberman – Franken's vice president.
Sandy Koufax – former professional baseball player who becomes Franken's Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Al Gore – former vice president who Franken politically destroyed during the 2000 Iowa primary; later became a congressman from Tennessee.
Franni Franken – Al's (real life) wife who is eventually used by the campaign after a heroic rescue in New Hampshire.
The book starts with Daring to Lead, Franken's campaign autobiography, in which he recounts his life from his childhood in the fictional town of Christhaven, Minnesota, to his college years, to his career on NBC's Saturday Night Live. We learn later from Franken's campaign diary that some parts of Daring to Lead are completely fabricated.
The diary describes Franken's experiences in the race. He starts out as a dark horse Democratic candidate, running on a single-issue platform (ATM fees). In the diary, Franken routinely insults the residents of New Hampshire and Iowa and describes numerous extramarital affairs, illegal actions, ridiculous campaign promises, and disastrous schemes designed to bolster Franken's poll numbers. Despite Franken's deceit, he is eventually given the Democratic nomination due to a rise in support after the Y2K bug creates glitches solely on ATMs. He is elected president in an unprecedented landslide victory.
The Void, a book supposedly written by Bob Woodward, describes Franken's brief and turbulent tenure at the White House. After Franken makes a bizarre inauguration speech apologizing for slavery, the resulting backlash sends Franken into depression. Franken's aides give him anti-depressant drugs, but this causes Franken to display strange behavior. Franken has himself cloned, punches Nelson Mandela in the stomach during a state meeting, and hatches a dangerous plan to assassinate Saddam Hussein by flying to Iraq and hitting him with a plaque that reads, "World's Greatest Grandpa." Congress forms a committee to investigate Franken's mood swings, which leads to the unraveling of his administration. After his diary is publicized, Franken is forced to resign.
The epilogue reveals that Franken's clone (parented by then-lesbian lovers Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche) is now the head of Franken's presidential library. Franken's entire cabinet was impeached along with the President, and all served varied prison terms; Franken pardoned himself before resigning. Franken's term is revealed to have actually had some benefits: his campaign for Russia to enter NATO provides important global security; his Vice President, Joe Lieberman, turns out to be the greatest President in history and serves eighteen years in office; and his dismantling of the remains of the Glass–Steagall Act benefits his boosters in the insurance industry.
Most of the characters in the book are real people, but the events are fictional.
