This is the vlog of Day 1 of our Taiwan trip (stay tuned for all 12 days of vlogs). We woke up early in the morning in Bangkok and headed to Don Muaeng Airport. We checked into our flight via Tiger Air that offers a directly flight at a pretty good rate from Bangkok to Taipei. Everything went smoothly and our flight arrived on time. They didn’t serve any food on our airplane, but luckily as I was doing some work, my wife Ying went and bought some Subway for the airplane ride. Probably one of the most famous things to do in Taipei is go to the Taipei 101, which is the tallest and most iconic building in the city. On the first few floors of the Taipei 101 is a luxury mall, but the most popular attraction is the Taipei 101 Observatory, which is located on the 89th and 91st floors. The entrance price is a pretty steep cost of 500 Taiwan Dollars, but it’s a popular thing to do and I wanted to check it out during out trip. We arrived in the morning, right after they opened at about 9 a

Overnight in Taipei : Your Weekend City travel guide
I have always loved travelling.
I was lucky enough that from a young age, my parents took us all over the place, instilling in us a sense of larger spaces and broadened horizons. As I grew up, I became more independent in my travels and tried to figure out ways to do it more. From learning Spanish in Salamanca to purposefully getting 6 month summer jobs in places I wanted to explore further.
I became accustomed to getting lost and just wondering the streets, figuring out where would be the next good meal or when I would stumble onto some secret only locals whispered about. Getting lost was second nature back then. The only resources we ha

Taipei Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
http://www.expedia.com/Taipei.d180030.Destination-Travel-Guides
Taipei is the glittering capital of Taiwan, and one of the hottest travel destinations in all of Asia. When you visit this thriving city, you’ll find collections of stunning futuristic buildings interspersed with ancient Chinese temples and traditions.
One of these temples, Longshan, is located in Wanhua, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This is where you come to find good fortune, good health, and spiritual advice of all sorts. Once you’ve attained the guidance and wisdom you may not have realized you sought, head to 228 Peace Park, where you will find the memorial to the 1949 uprisings that eventually led to Taiwan’s independence.
Don’t worry about getting around the city; the Taipei Rapid Transit System, or MRT, will take you just about anywhere you need to go. Hop on it to pay a visit to the National Palace Museum, where you’ll find a giant collection of Chinese art and artifacts. There’s over half a million pieces related to ancient Chinese royalty here, and you can spend days exploring them all.
To plan out your next move, make your way to Taipei 101. This is one of the world’s tallest buildings, and you can soar to the top for a breathtaking view of the city and pick out the next place you’ll visit. Do you see Elephant Mountain? It’s not far from the downtown area, and it’s a short climb to the top for another look at Taipei. Keep up with the nature theme and make your stop the Taipei Zoo, where you’ll meet the largest menagerie of animals in Asia.
Cap off a day of Taipei sightseeing and adventure at Shilin Night Market, where you can join the locals in finding that next great meal or landing a spectacular bargain.

Bangkok to Taipei, First Meal (Taiwan Day 1)
SNAPCHAT / INSTAGRAM: migrationology | Free food guide: http://migrationology.com/41-irresistible-meals/
So while I didn’t have airplane food this time, I did have Subway on an airplane.
We landed in Taipei, Taiwan, my first time to ever visit Taiwan in the early afternoon, and I had little clue how we were going to get from the airport to the center of Taipei and then on to our hotel. We ended up walking down stairs where we caught a shuttle bus from Taoyuan International Airport for 30 TWD to the Taoyuan train station in order to connect with the Taiwan high speed rail that would take us into the center of Taipei. From Taoyuan railway station we took the high speed rail which cost 165 TWD and in about 20 minutes we arrived at Taipei Main station, which is the major hub of transportation in the center of Taipei. From there we caught the local Metro to Ximen station, where our hotel was booked. After wandering around for a little while and getting a bit lost, we finally arrived into our hotel, called Go Sleep Hotel and the Xining branch, located right within the busy shopping and cultural district of Ximending in Taipei. We arrive to the hotel at about 6 pm almost and we were all very hungry and wanted to have our first meal in Taipei… but I had no idea what we were going to eat.
After walking around Ximending for a few minutes we sat down at the nearest restaurant we could find that was serving local Taiwanese food. Although I didn’t really know what we were ordering, the owner of the restaurant was very nice and after pointing to a few dishes, she kindly brought them to our table. Our first meal in Taipei, Taiwan was a success. From there we just walked around Ximending for a while, enjoying the atmosphere and sampling a few snacks along the way. There was so much food in this area, that is was crazy, so much to eat!

We arrived in the morning, right after they opened at about 9 am, bought our tickets, and went to the elevator to go to the top of the building. The elevator ride, which they claim is the fastest elevator in the world, was quite amazingly fast. It felt like it only took about 10 seconds but in reality it actually took about 40 seconds - but to get to the 89th floor, it was still incredibly fast. Once at the top, it was mostly just an observatory set up specifically for tourists, but still worth it for the amazing views of Taipei city and the surrounding mountains.
After going to the Taipei 101 Observatory, we came down, and there happens to be a branch of Din Tai Fung, the famous Taiwanese soup dumplings restaurant at the Taipei 101. Luckily we arrived quite early when the restaurant wasn’t too busy, so we happen to get seats easily for lunch. I made a separate full video about eating at Din Tai Fung, which I’ll post later.
After lunch, since were were still near the Taipei 101, we decided to go to Elephant Hill, a mountain near Taipei 101 where there are some hiking and nature trails. After figuring out which trail to take, we took a staircase trail, which was well marked out to Elephant Hill. The walk didn’t take more than about 20 minutes, and once we arrived at the Elephant Hill lookout point, we could see the entire skyline of Taipei, but a much different perspective of Taipei from the Taipei 101 Observatory. It was good to see and I enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere and the different perspective of the skyline from the mountain. I would highly recommend going to Elephant Hill when you’re in Taipei.
Next, we rushed off to the Taipei Zoo, one of the largest and most developed zoos in Asia. The price was only 60 TWD, and it was very nice to just spend some time walking around and enjoying both the animals and the impressively lush and tropical zoo grounds. I think the Taipei zoo is one of the great things to do if you have kids, or even you can go just to walk around and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. After the Taipei zoo, we wanted to go to the Maokong Gondola, but due to stormy weather, the Gondola closed, so we had to change our plans.
From the Taipei Zoo, we headed back to the Dongmen area and had a snack of a famous Taiwanese shaved ice, and then we had dinner at a local restaurant.
That was it for Day 4 in Taiwan - pretty cool to have a chance to visit the Taipei 101 Observatory.

The only resources we had were over-read guide books that by the time you reached their recommendations, the waiters would push their best sellers down your throats.
So we had to resort to friend recommendations, what blog resources were up on the internet, guide books, conversations with strangers and your hotel concierge. Nowadays in our hyper connected world, everyone is an expert and there are so many sites that claim that this restaurants, trumps this bar, which is passé and now is considered touristy by pretty much everyone. Honestly, for me, good is good, so that’s what I base myself on.
For every family or friend trip we would take, I became the defacto research guide. Skimming through websites in English and in the language of destination, guide books, personal blogs, Instagram hashtags, geotags and anything else social media would allow me to delve into. Finally, being able to create a snap shot of the city, its districts and where to eat, sleep, drink, party or learn about the culture.
This is what Overnight is about.
For all of the information of the video, a map of the city and our Overnight guide.

The city of Tainan rises from the southwestern coastal plains of Taiwan, and is often
called The Birthplace of Taiwan.
In 1624, Dutch traders established a fort on the sandy peninsula Anping. Wander the
fort’s ramparts and the nearby ruins of a merchant house held together by banyan roots.
Closer to the city center rises Chihkan Tower, Taiwan’s first official seat of power.
Today, the tower is the keeping place of many of the city’s earliest records and treasures.
With over 2000 temples and shrines, Tainan is also known as The Kyoto of Taiwan.

How are you all doing???
In today's vlog, I will take you to some of my favourite spots in Taipei! On my 2nd and 3rd day in Taiwan, I revisited my favourite places to eat, to shop as well as some random hidden gems.
First, thing I did on my 2nd day was wake up super early (well.. i was jet lagged) and line up for 阜杭豆漿 (fu hang dou jiang). The line took around 45 min.. but it was definitely worth it! It's super cheap too! For everything we got, it was around $6 onlyyyy!!
Later that day, we hit up Ximending. It's where all the young kids hang out these days... hahahah. I feel a bit old saying that. But it's true. Regardless, It's definitel

Tainan Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
http://www.expedia.com/Tainan-and-vicinity.d6177060.Destination-Travel-Guides
Highlights include the Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple and the Confucian Temple.
Although Tainan ceded its political power to Taipei over a century ago, the city remains a
powerhouse in one of life’s most important aspects, food! Forget chic restaurants, the
best food here is found on the streets and the city is often called The City of Snacks.
One of the best places to sample Tainan specialties, like its legendary oyster omelets, is at
its night markets. Tainan offers over two dozen night markets, but none quite compare to
the sheer size, color and energy of the city’s favorite, the Flower Night Market.
When it’s time to work off all that food, the city has plenty of places to stretch out, such
as Tainan Park and Taijiang National Park.
Locals love to say, “Taipei is Taiwan’s pocket, but Tainan, is the country’s heart.”

Ultimate Taiwanese Street Food Day: Jiufen and Keelung City (Taiwan Day 10)
Download my free street food guide: http://migrationology.com/41-irresistible-meals/
Get INSTANT food and travel updates on SNAPCHAT: @migrationology
On Day 10 in Taipei, Taiwan, Ying and I decided to take a day trip to Jiufen (of Jiu Fen) and on to Keelung City and have a day of eating Taiwanese street food. I’m extremely happy we had a chance to briefly visit both Jiufen and Keelung City. I’ll just quickly go over where and how we went from Taipei to Jiufen and then on to Keelung City using timecodes so you can come back to a location in the video easily if you want to.
0:38 How to Get from Taipei to Jiufen by Bus
Using the directly I read off Wikipedia travel guide, we took the Taipei Metro to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, then took exit 1 (Andong Street) and made an immediate u-turn, walked to the intersection and made a left, and then the bus stop was right there on the right hand side. We somehow arrived to the bus stop right as 1062 arrived and if Taiwan couldn’t make things any more easy and efficient we boarded the bus using our easy cards. The bus ride from Taipei central there to the small town of Jiufen took just over 1 hour, and we soon arrived in the touristy, but very beautiful and pleasant town of Jiufen - which is one of the biggest little tourist towns in Taiwan. You can choose to take a day trip to Jiufen from Taipei like we did, or you can even spend the night or a few nights there.
2:45 Taiwanese street food at Jiufen
Jiufen is a small little mountain town in Taiwan about 1 hour from Taipei with a great view of the ocean… and it’s turned into a major tourism destination. Although you can go there to do some shopping and buy some souvenirs, by far the main reason to go to Jiufen on a day trip is to eat as much Taiwanese street food and snacks as you can - and also there are plenty of sit-down restaurant you can eat at as well. Ying and I started our day of eating Taiwan street food by eating a plate of snails and a plate of grilled squid, both of which had quite a similar texture, and the flavor was delicious. After the snails and squid, I couldn’t resist having a Taiwanese tea egg, one of the most popular snacks. After walking around and taking loads of photos of the picturesque scenes around Jiufen, Ying and I stopped at a real restaurant to take a little break, cool down from the hot sun, and eat some more food - this time at a real restaurant. I tried a dish called three cup chicken, which was deliciously comforting. Another very famous food to eat in Jiufen is the sweet taro balls, which was pretty good.
12:24 How to get from Jiufen to Keelung City on Bus #788
After spending a few hours wandering around Jiufen, we took the bus from just up the road directly to Keelung City, one of the harbour towns in Taiwan, and about a 45 minute drive from Jiufen. The reason we wanted to go to Keelung City was to go to Keelung Miaokou Night Market, one of the most famous Taiwanese street food markets in Taiwan.
13:35 Street food at Keelung Miaokou Night Market
One of the most well known night markets in Taiwan is Keelung Miaokou Night Market, located right in Keelung City, and home to an abundance of delicious things to eat. I was actually still quite full from all the food we had already eaten in Jiufen, but I did manage to try a few things at the night market, and also I just really enjoyed the ambiance and atmosphere of the market. Ying and I luckily got a table and chairs at a small street food stall serving long finger sized dumplings, which were similar to gyoza. They were filled with minced pork and lots of green onions. Along with a plate of pickled cucumbers, and a plate of tofu, they were some of the best potsticker style dumplings I had on my entire trip to Taiwan. I also tried crab soup, and a famous street food called a Nutritious Sandwich.
Day 10 in Taiwan, and eating all sorts of Taiwanese street food snacks in both Jiufen and Keelung City was an excellent day trip.

TAIPEI, TAIWAN TRAVEL VLOG: Revisiting Favourite Spots
Regardless, It's definitely one of my favourite places to browse around. Everything from beauty related stuff, clothes, random cutesy Asian thingies, everything!
The 3rd day was more relaxing. Although it wasn't by choice.. since it pretty much rained most of the day. But we still made the day count by visiting a lily pad pond. The pod with all the holes still freaks me out though..
Later that night, I headed to the airport! Stay tuned to find out where my next travel destination is.. but don't worry, I come back to Taiwan after this mini getaway :)

The Friendly Restaurant Guide App Taipei
presented by OurCityLove Social Enterprise Taiwan
For people with disabilities, parents with strollers, senior citizens and their families and friends, it has always been a headache when it comes to finding a friendly restaurant in the city. Our app offers ranking information of some 1000+ friendly restaurants in Taipei, including detailed description and clear on-site photos of the restaurants’ entrance, environment, tables, chairs, toilets, parking spaces, braille and assisting services.
The friendly information is collected and evaluated by our 100+ Love Correspondents, who are volunteers with various physical disabilities, such as spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, polio, and those with visual or hearing problems. In cooperation with the Taiwan Handicap Alliance, we recruited and trained these real-life experts in friendly environment and services. Then they use our cloud platform and smart mobile tool to investigate restaurants and to publish their firsthand dining experience in the app.
Most important of all, we saw and continue seeing wonderful changes in our 100+ Love Correspondents. Through recruiting and training, we encouraged and inspired them with new experiences in life and in career. Through their services, “those who need help” dramatically became “those who can help” for the obvious fact that no one knows the needs of the “senior citizens with disabilities” better than they do.
“OurCityLove Friendly Restaurant Guide Taipei” is an innovative social ACT rather than merely an APP. It endows the smartphone technology new possibilities of initiating positive citizenship and of the pursuit of happiness in the rapidly aging society. We are currently improving our cloud platform to include more friendly services, such as friendly banks, resorts, hotels and other public facilities. We hope to extend our services to more cities, sooner rather than later.
