Diplomacy Movie CLIP - Blow Up Paris (2014) - Historical Drama HD
As the Allies march toward Paris in the summer of 1944, Hitler gives orders that the French capital should not fall into enemy hands, or if it does, then ‘only as a field of rubble’. The person assigned to carry out this barbaric act is General Dietrich von Choltitz, who already has mines planted on the Eiffel Tower, in the Louvre and Notre Dame. Nothing should be left as a reminder of the city’s former glory. However, at dawn on 25 August, Swedish Consul General Raoul Nordling steals into German headquarters through a secret underground tunnel and there starts a tension-filled game of cat and mouse as Nordling tries to persuade Choltitz to abandon his plan. In this passionate and emotional adaptation of the 2011 stage success by Cyril Gély, the great Volker Schlöndorff (Academy Award winner THE TIN DRUM) has created a psychologically elaborate and thrilling game of political manners.

Sinopse
A noite de 24 para 25 de Agosto de 1944. O destino de Paris encontra-se nas mãos do general Von Choltitz, que a ordens de Hitler se prepara para fazer explodir a cidade. Descendente de uma antiga linha de militares prussianos, o General não apresenta qualquer tipo de hesitação em cumprir as suas ordens. Esta é a principal preocupação do cônsul Sueco nos instantes em que sobe as escadas da suite do hotel Meurice, onde está hospedado o General. Tanto as pontes do Sena como os principais monumentos de Paris o Louvre, a Notre-Dame, a Torre Eiffel, estão rodeados de explosivos prontos a explodir.
Utilizando todas as armas e argumentos diplomáticos, o cônsul é a única pessoa que poderá convencer Von Choltitz a não executar a sua ordem de destruição.

General der Infanterie Dietrich von Choltitz (9 November 1894 – 4 November 1966) was the German military governor of Paris during the closing days of the German occupation of that city during World War II. He claimed to have disobeyed Hitler's order to leave Paris in rubble during this last stage of the war, although this is disputed.
In World War I, von Choltitz served as infantry lieutenant with the Saxon Army on the Western Front. He remained in the Reichswehr during the Weimar Republic, becoming a cavalry captain in 1929. Later he became commander of the 3rd battalion of the Luftlande-Infanterieregiment 16, first as a major, and from 1938 as a lieutenant-colonel.
In World War II, von Choltitz' battalion was engaged in the occupation of Rotterdam via air landings in 1940 (earning him a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross). In September 1940 he became commander of the whole regiment and from 1941 as a full colonel. In the war against the Soviet Union, von Choltitz' regiment was engaged in the siege of the city of Sevastopol in June 1942. In the same year he became a major-general, and in 1943 a lieutenant-general. His command posts included assistant commander of the 260th Infantry Division and commander of the 48th Panzer Corps. From March 1944, he served in Italy, and from June 1944 on the Western Front. Later, as an Allied prisoner at Trent Park in England, he admitted in a conversation with fellow prisoners (recorded by the British unknown to him or his fellow inmates) to "executing the most difficult order of my life in Russia, (...) liquidation of the Jews. I have executed this order in its entirety nonetheless..." recorded on 29 August 1944.

Diplomacy Movie CLIP - Blow Up Paris (2014) - Historical Drama HD
As the Allies march toward Paris in the summer of 1944, Hitler gives orders that the French capital should not fall into enemy hands, or if it does, then ‘only as a field of rubble’. The person assigned to carry out this barbaric act is General Dietrich von Choltitz, who already has mines planted on the Eiffel Tower, in the Louvre and Notre Dame. Nothing should be left as a reminder of the city’s former glory. However, at dawn on 25 August, Swedish Consul General Raoul Nordling steals into German headquarters through a secret underground tunnel and there starts a tension-filled game of cat and mouse as Nordling tries to persuade Choltitz to abandon his plan. In this passionate and emotional adaptation of the 2011 stage success by Cyril Gély, the great Volker Schlöndorff (Academy Award winner THE TIN DRUM) has created a psychologically elaborate and thrilling game of political manners.

Utilizando todas as armas e argumentos diplomáticos, o cônsul é a única pessoa que poderá convencer Von Choltitz a não executar a sua ordem de destruição.

'Paris Is Burning' is the title of a 1990 American documentary film (directed by Jennie Livingston) which examined New York’s ballroom subculture in the 80s. The film followed African American and Hispanic gay men, drag queens and transgender women as they compete in simultaneously fierce and fun competitions involving fashion runways and vogue dancing battles.
But Blair's song is not "about" that, at least not overtly. "I think it's about secrets, and passion, and escaping everyday life. I'm not sure," he said in late 2015. "It's not a song I play 'live' much, because of the non-standard instrumentation; I can't really play it on my acoustic guitar and have it sound good, I don't think."
The title of the film (and by extension, Blair's song) is from the Second World War. From cultureandstuff.com: "German General Dietrich von Choltitz became the governor of Paris on 7th August 1944, and was the man responsible for carrying out Hitler’s orders, even (according to legend) receiving a screaming phone call from the Führer, demanding ‘Brennt Paris?‘ (Is Paris Burning?)..." Von Choltitz never ordered the detonation of explosives set to destroy some major Parisian landmarks, and instead, surrendered the City of Light to the Allies, directly contravening Hitler's orders.

Diplomacy Official US Release Trailer (2014) - Historical Drama HD
As the Allies march toward Paris in the summer of 1944, Hitler gives orders that the French capital should not fall into enemy hands, or if it does, then ‘only as a field of rubble’. The person assigned to carry out this barbaric act is General Dietrich von Choltitz, who already has mines planted on the Eiffel Tower, in the Louvre and Notre Dame. Nothing should be left as a reminder of the city’s former glory. However, at dawn on 25 August, Swedish Consul General Raoul Nordling steals into German headquarters through a secret underground tunnel and there starts a tension-filled game of cat and mouse as Nordling tries to persuade Choltitz to abandon his plan. In this passionate and emotional adaptation of the 2011 stage success by Cyril Gély, the great Volker Schlöndorff (Academy Award winner THE TIN DRUM) has created a psychologically elaborate and thrilling game of political manners.

Benvenuti ad un nuovo appuntamento con il mondo del cinema visto da VisiOnAir. Andiamo subito a scoprire quali sono i nuovi film che escono in sala questa settimana che - in teoria - sarebbero una valanga ma poi, beh… bisogna vedere perché ci sono titoli che certamente avranno più spazio mentre altri ne avranno meno. Iniziamo da una riedizione che, in realtà è già uscita martedì. Si tratta di "Ghostbusters", mitico film degli acchiappa fantasmi che in Italia uscì proprio il 21 novembre del 1984 e quest'anno festeggia il suo 30° anniversario.
Questa settimana finisce anche la lunga attesa dei fans della saga di "Hunger Games", perché esce "Hunger Games: il canto della rivolta - Parte 1". La protagonista (interpretata da Jennifer Lawrence) torna a lottare per salvare Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) e tutto il Paese. La seconda parte del film uscirà nel 2015. La tensione rimane alta con il film australiano "These Final Hours", che racconta l'ultimo giorno sulla Terra. A dodici ore dall'evento catastrofico che scatenerà l'Apocalisse, un uomo attraversa una città caotica e senza legge verso la festa di tutte le feste, l'ultimo grande evento prima della fine del Mondo. Lungo la strada però salva la vita di una bambina che cerca disperatamente suo padre.
Ma parliamo di sentimenti con "I Toni dell'Amore: Love is Strange". La storia racconta la relazione di Ben e George che dopo quarant'anni decidono di sposarsi. Ma la notizia del loro matrimonio causa il licenziamento di George. Non potendosi più permettere il loro appartamento a New York, i due dovranno trovare una soluzione e vivere temporaneamente separati.
Si parla sempre d'amore ma con il sorriso in "My Old Lady" con Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline e Kristin Scott Thomas. Il protagonista va a Parigi per liquidare un lussuoso appartamento ereditato dal padre. Una volta arrivato, scopre che nella casa abita un'anziana signora insieme alla figlia. Dovrà quindi trovare il modo per "liberare" l'appartamento e riuscire finalmente a venderlo per pagare un grosso debito. Direi che il film è "sul pezzo", visto che in questi giorni in Italia si parla proprio di occupazioni abusive. Chissà se è un caso o se la distribuzione, visto il momento, ha deciso di farlo uscire ora. Sarebbe bello saperlo… ma rimaniamo su temi attuali e sulla commedia con un film italiano: "Scusate se Esisto". Paola Cortellesi e Raoul Bova si danno man forte per sopravvivere ai pregiudizi della società: lei è un architetto che si spaccia per uomo per poter lavorare e lui è gay non dichiarato. A proposito di commedie, esce un film senza attori di richiamo ma che potrebbe davvero piacere e contare sul passaparola. Quello originale, in francese, è "Faccio il Morto" che allude anche a tutto un aspetto ludico ma indica anche una professione… infatti il protagonista è un attore disoccupato che per sbarcare il lunario aiuta la polizia a ricostruire le scene dei crimini interpretando, appunto, il morto. La sua ossessione per i dettagli gli permette di ottenere un certo credito e partecipare alle indagini su una serie di omicidi. Ecco: secondo me, questo film potrebbe essere una bella sorpresa.
Cambiamo argomento perché questa settimana esce anche un film storico: "Diplomacy". Si tratta di una produzione franco-tedesca diretta da Volker Schlöndorff. La storia ruota attorno ad un mistero. Il 25 agosto del 1944 gli alleati entrano a Parigi. Il generale tedesco Dietrich von Choltitz si prepara ad eseguire gli ordini di Hitler e distruggere la capitale francese. Sappiamo, però, che ciò non accadrà. Che cosa è successo?
Bella domanda… una domanda che ci porta al prossimo film in uscita,presentato all'ultimo festival di Cannes. Si tratta di "Adieu Au Langage" di Jean-Luc Godard. Il film è difficile da raccontare. Vi dico solo che ci sono una donna sposata e un uomo single che hanno una relazione e un cane.
Per finire, escono anche due documentari. Il primo è "Finding Happiness". Una giornalista specializzata in fatti di cronaca legati alla corruzione, riceve un incarico insolito (e non gradito): dovrà visitare una comunità spirituale nel nord della California dove sono state sviluppate soluzioni alternative ai problemi del mondo. Il secondo documentario è "Sarà un Paese. " Sulle tracce dell'eroe fenicio Cadmo, al quale il mito attribuisce l'introduzione dell'alfabeto in Grecia, due fratelli intraprendono un viaggio in Italia alla ricerca di un nuovo linguaggio, per ridare alle cose il loro giusto nome e restituire un senso alle parole.

Benvenuti ad un nuovo appuntamento con il mondo del cinema visto da VisiOnAir. Andiamo subito a scoprire quali sono i nuovi film che escono in sala questa settimana che - in teoria - sarebbero una valanga ma poi, beh… bisogna vedere perché ci sono titoli che certamente avranno più spazio mentre altri ne avranno meno. Iniziamo da una riedizione che, in realtà è già uscita martedì. Si tratta di "Ghostbusters", mitico film degli acchiappa fantasmi che in Italia uscì proprio il 21 novembre del 1984 e quest'anno festeggia il suo 30° anniversario.
Questa settimana finisce anche la lunga attesa dei fans della saga di "Hunger Games", perché esce "Hunger Games: il canto della rivolta - Parte 1". La protagonista (interpretata da Jennifer Lawrence) torna a lottare per salvare Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) e tutto il Paese. La seconda parte del film uscirà nel 2015. La tensione rimane alta con il film australiano "These Final Hours", che racconta l'ultimo giorno sulla Terra. A dodici ore dall'evento catastrofico che scatenerà l'Apocalisse, un uomo attraversa una città caotica e senza legge verso la festa di tutte le feste, l'ultimo grande evento prima della fine del Mondo. Lungo la strada però salva la vita di una bambina che cerca disperatamente suo padre.
Ma parliamo di sentimenti con "I Toni dell'Amore: Love is Strange". La storia racconta la relazione di Ben e George che dopo quarant'anni decidono di sposarsi. Ma la notizia del loro matrimonio causa il licenziamento di George. Non potendosi più permettere il loro appartamento a New York, i due dovranno trovare una soluzione e vivere temporaneamente separati.
Si parla sempre d'amore ma con il sorriso in "My Old Lady" con Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline e Kristin Scott Thomas. Il protagonista va a Parigi per liquidare un lussuoso appartamento ereditato dal padre. Una volta arrivato, scopre che nella casa abita un'anziana signora insieme alla figlia. Dovrà quindi trovare il modo per "liberare" l'appartamento e riuscire finalmente a venderlo per pagare un grosso debito. Direi che il film è "sul pezzo", visto che in questi giorni in Italia si parla proprio di occupazioni abusive. Chissà se è un caso o se la distribuzione, visto il momento, ha deciso di farlo uscire ora. Sarebbe bello saperlo… ma rimaniamo su temi attuali e sulla commedia con un film italiano: "Scusate se Esisto". Paola Cortellesi e Raoul Bova si danno man forte per sopravvivere ai pregiudizi della società: lei è un architetto che si spaccia per uomo per poter lavorare e lui è gay non dichiarato. A proposito di commedie, esce un film senza attori di richiamo ma che potrebbe davvero piacere e contare sul passaparola. Poco antes del amanecer, Dietrich von Choltitz, gobernador militar alemán, se prepara para ejecutar las órdenes de Hitler de volar la capital francesa. Two different advances took place - from the 'north' (via Versailles) and from the south (via Fresnes Croix de Berny). In both advances, the French 2nd Armoured Division was to be at the front, with American forces assisting.
20,000 German troops were placed outside of the city commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Hubertus von Aulock.
However, the military value of these 20,000 men was debatable.
The German military commander of Paris, Lieutenant General Choltitz kept 5,000 men in Paris itself, with 50 artillery guns and a company of tanks.
On August 23rd he received an instruction from Hitler that "Paris is not to fall in the hands of the enemy, except as a heap of ruins." Choltitz was considered to be a loyal soldier who followed orders - but this order he found simply unpractical and probably unacceptable.
As the Allies entered the city's suburbs, another element held up their advance - the people of Paris. Such was their joy at seeing Allied soldiers - be they French or American - that streets were blocked with those celebrating their freedom.
Leclerc got a small plane to drop leaflets on the city centre that read "Hold on, we are coming." At 22.30 on the evening of August 24th, a small detachment of French soldiers entered Paris led by Captain Dronne.
By August 25th, it became clear to Choltitz that resistance of any form was useless.
However, sporadic fighting continued in the city - including at the Champs Elysées in the area by the Arc de Triomphe.
