Rise and Fall of Burgundy
With the Kingdom of Burgundy, Duchy of Burgundy, County of Burgundy and the Burgundian Netherlands, it's often difficult to understand exactly what this rather strange state is. This video explains the difference between them all from the Rise of the First Kingdom in the 5th Century to the fall and partition of the duchy in 1477.

Burgundy
Burgundy is one of the 26 regions of France.
The region of Burgundy is both larger than the old Duchy of Burgundy and smaller than the area ruled by the Dukes of Burgundy. It is made up of the following old provinces:
* Burgundy: Côte-d'Or, Saône-et-Loire, and southern half of Yonne. This corresponds to the old duchy of Burgundy (later called province of Burgundy). However, the old count

Tok plays Europa Universalis IV - Burgundy part 1 - Surveying Our Nation
In this episode, we start up our game as Burgundy, and set out to become the powerhouse of western Europe, a task failed by actual Burgundy at the time. The Duchy of Burgundy fell in 1477; can we survive the French and the Austrians to take it all?

Dijon
The earliest archaeological finds within the city limits of Dijon date to the Neolithic period. Dijon later became a Roman settlement called Divio, the city's apocryphal patron saint, is said to have introduced Christianity to the area before being martyred. This province was home to the Dukes of Burgundy from the early 11th until the late 15th century, and Dijon was a place of tremendous wealth a

However, the old county of Burgundy (later called province of Franche-Comté) is not included inside the Burgundy region, but it makes up the Franche-Comté region. Also, a small part of the duchy of Burgundy (province of Burgundy) is now inside the Champagne-Ardenne region.
* Nivernais: now the Nièvre department
* the northern half of Yonne is a territory that was not part of Burgundy (at least not since the 11th century), and was a frontier between Champagne, Île-de-France, and Orléanais, depending from each of these provinces at different times in history.
A Quadripartite agreement was made between Central Bohemia, Opole, Burgundy and Rhineland Palatinate in 2003 that gave rise to many activities such as a Students European Contest created in 2005, or the students literary prize. ( source Wikipedia )

http://wtfcombat2015.diary.ru/p202547717.htm
Based on the book series "Les Rois maudits" ("The Accursed Kings") by Maurice Druon
Fancast:
Agnes of France - Glenn Close
Margaret of Burgundy - Katie McGrath
Hugh V of Burgundy - Alexander Vlahos
Odo of Burgundy - Aneurin Barnard
Joan the Lame (Joan of Burgundy) - Lara Pulver
Philip of Valois - Kenneth Branagh
Louis X the Stubborn - Guillaume Depardieu
First of all, "genre" definition - this video has been planned as an opening for TV series I wish could exist. It's AU for LRM canon, because in this story there was no Tour de Nesle Affair and Margaret became the queen of France not only nominally (as the real one did).
This is the story of the House of Burgundy, cadet branch of Capetians, significant vassals to the French king and rulers of the duchy of Burgundy. The first season timeline - 1313 - may 1315 (death of Hugh V). The influence of the House of Burgundy had been represented at that time by Agnes of France (daughter to the king of France Louis IX, aunt to the ruling king Philip IV the Fair, widow of the late duke of Burgundy) and her children: Margaret, Joan, Hugh and Odo (and their other siblings). Margaret was married in 1305 to the heir of the French throne and king of Navarre Louis, Joan was married to the heir of the House of Valois (another branch of Capetians) Philip in 1313, Hugh was the duke of Burgundy since the death of his father in 1306 and Odo simply couldn't know how soon he would become the new duke.
This fanvid has begun with idée fixe "I want to find any suitable character for Aneurin Barnard in these novels (which isn't easy as most of personages are blond)" - and now I see too many interesting connections, plots and possibilities for all these characters. Joan the Lame is the most attractive and impressive of them, of course (and she is treated really unfair by Druon - as her historical prototype was by many contemporaries, and as all the women in LRM are, because these novels are full of conservative stereotypes). I like Odo and Agnes as well, although it's the question of interpretation)))
I would very much like to see any fanvid or to read any fanfic about this family as sort of regents for little queen Joan of Navarre after the death of Louis X, but it's too much to ask, I guess)

A song about taking a stand. Based on the 15th-century wars between the Duchy of Burgundy and the Kingdom of France.
Nevermind what I said in the video, as it was my first time singing the song; the actual lyrics are below:
---------------------------------------------------
Defy the flag of Burgundy and shout "Vive la France!"
You want to be a better man, so you find a code of laws
You follow it to the letter and expect a grand applause
But you must have worn a mask for all the thanks received
But turn not to the flask; defend your love, Paris
And stand at the front of the line - rally your men at arms
Defy the flag of Burgundy and shout "Vive la France!"
You might just survive, or you might be torn apart
Worry tomorrow; soldats, avant!
The Duke has pushed his borders into your place of birth
Do you retire to your quarters where you know you won't be hurt?
So when Charles does arrive, your life will be spared
That you might listen as your daughter and your wife grant him heirs
Nay!
Stand at the front of the line - rally your men at arms
Defy the flag of Burgundy and shout "Vive la France!"
You might just survive, or you might be torn apart
Worry tomorrow; soldats, avant!
I know of a kingdom more precious than Lorraine
They're never low on spirits; wine runs through their prince's veins
Getting there is simple if a righteous life you live
So let the enemy see your dimples, so he knows that you forgive him as you
Stand at the front of the line - rally your men at arms
Defy the flag of Burgundy and shout "Vive la France!"
You might just survive, or you might be torn apart
Worry tomorrow; soldats, avant!
A poet and a swordsman, with a blade and with a pen
Do not require a fortune to inspire and defend
Still I'd spend my every nickel feeding these brave men in our midst
For when you're in a pickle, you can't always count on the Swiss
So stand at the front of the line - rally your men at arms
Defy the flag of Burgundy and shout "Vive la France!"
You might just survive, or you might be torn apart
Worry tomorrow; soldats, avant!
Oh, leader of yon Burgundy - so bold, so téméraire
And cousin of our own Louis, the prudent, wise, and fair
If it's war that you fancy, then a war we'll give you back
Not to be a negative Nancy, but I think you've met your match
For we stand at the front of the line and rally our men at arms
Defy the flag of Burgundy and shout "Vive la France!"
You might just survive, or you might be torn apart
Worry tomorrow; soldats, avant!
You might just survive, or you might be sliced to ribbons
But ho! Hero or coward, death is a given

Morat 1476 - a defining moment for the Old Swiss Confederation.
Within the space of two years 1475-1477, the Swiss defeated a mighty foe, the Duchy of Burgundy and secured their place in history.
The military history of the Old Confederation reads like the annals of a brave, confident and ruthless people who have never traded their rights for security. The Swiss have never bowed to any power, knowing all too well that armed freedom is the only true source of security in a world dominated by the strong "who have always done what they could" while the "weak suffered what they must"[Melian dialogue, Thucydides]
This is a glowing tribute to a nation in arms, proud and brave of its history and looking forward to its bold future.

Dijon later became a Roman settlement called Divio, the city's apocryphal patron saint, is said to have introduced Christianity to the area before being martyred. This province was home to the Dukes of Burgundy from the early 11th until the late 15th century, and Dijon was a place of tremendous wealth and power and one of the great European centers of art, learning, and science. The Duchy of Burgundy was a key in the transformation of medieval times toward early modern Europe. The Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy now houses city hall and a museum of art.
Dijon was under siege by Swiss and Imperial armies in 1513, occupied by anti-Napoleonic coalitions in 1814, by the Prussian army in 1870-71, and by Nazi Germany beginning in June 1940, during WWII. It was bombed by US Air Force B-17 Flying Fortresses, prior to the liberation of Dijon by the French Army and the French Resistance, 11 September 1944.

Philip I known as Philip the Handsome or the Fair, was the first member of the house of Habsburg to be King of Castile. The son of Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, at the age of three Philip inherited the greater part of the Duchy of Burgundy and the Burgundian Netherlands from his mother, Mary, and at 27 briefly succeeded to the Crown of Castile as the husband of Queen Joanna, who was also heiress-presumptive to the Crown of Aragon. He was the first Habsburg monarch in Spain. He never inherited his father's territories, nor became Holy Roman Emperor, because he predeceased his father, but his son Emperor Charles V eventually united the Habsburg, Burgundian, Castilian, and Aragonese inheritances.
The future King Henry VIII of England met Philip the Handsome on a visit Philip made to Henry's father's court in London, and regarded him as providing a model of leadership towards which he aspired. The two would become brothers-in-law since Philip married Joanna of Castile, and Henry married Joanna's youngest sister, Catherine of Aragon.
