Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti (Arabic: صدام حسين عبد المجيد التكريتي Ṣaddām Ḥusayn ʿAbd al-Maǧīd al-Tikrītī; 28 April 1937 – 30 December 2006) was the fifth President of Iraq, serving in this capacity from 16 July 1979 until 9 April 2003. A leading member of the revolutionary Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, and later, the Baghdad-based Ba'ath Party and its regional organisation Ba'ath Party – Iraq Region, which espoused ba'athism, a mix of Arab nationalism and Arab socialism, Saddam played a key role in the 1968 coup, later referred to as the 17 July Revolution, that brought the party to long-term power of Iraq.
As vice president under the ailing General Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, and at a time when many groups were considered capable of overthrowing the government, Saddam created security forces through which he tightly controlled conflict between the government and the armed forces. In the early 1970s, Saddam nationalized oil and other industries. The state-owned banks were put under his control, leaving the system eventually insolvent mostly due to the Iran–Iraq War, the Gulf War, and UN sanctions. Through the 1970s, Saddam cemented his authority over the apparatuses of government as oil money helped Iraq's economy to grow at a rapid pace. Positions of power in the country were filled with Sunnis, a minority that made up only a fifth of the population.

The Trial of Saddam Hussein was the trial of the deposed President of Iraq Saddam Hussein by the Iraqi Interim Government for crimes against humanity during his time in office.
The Coalition Provisional Authority voted to create the Iraqi Special Tribunal (IST), consisting of five Iraqi judges, on 9 December 2003, to try Saddam Hussein and his aides for charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
The trial was viewed in some quarters as a kangaroo court or show trial.Amnesty International stated that the trial was "unfair," and Human Rights Watch noting that Saddam's execution "follows a flawed trial and marks a significant step away from the rule of law in Iraq."
Saddam was captured on December 13, 2003. He remained in custody by United States forces at Camp Cropper in Baghdad, along with eleven senior Ba'athist officials. Particular attention was paid during the trial to activities in violent campaigns against the Kurds in the north during the Iran–Iraq War, against the Shiites in the south in 1991 and 1999 to put down revolts, and in Dujail after a failed assassination attempt on July 8, 1982, during the Iran–Iraq War. Saddam asserted in his defense that he had been unlawfully overthrown, and was still the president of Iraq.

Saloth Sar (19 May 1925 – 15 April 1998), better known as Pol Pot (Khmer: ប៉ុល ពត), was a Cambodian Maoist revolutionary who led the Khmer Rouge from 1963 until his death in 1998. From 1963 to 1981, he served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Kampuchea. From 1976 to 1979, he also served as the prime minister of Democratic Kampuchea. Pol Pot became leader of Cambodia on April 17, 1975. During his time in power he imposed agrarian socialism, forcing urban dwellers to relocate to the countryside to work in collective farms and forced labor projects. The combined effects of forced labor, malnutrition, poor medical care, and executions resulted in the deaths of approximately 21% of the Cambodian population. In all, an estimated 1.7 to 2.5 million people (out of a population of slightly over 8 million) died as a result of the policies of his three-year premiership.
In 1979, after the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia, Pol Pot fled to the jungles of southwest Cambodia, and the Khmer Rouge government collapsed. From 1979 to 1997, he and a remnant of the old Khmer Rouge operated near the border of Cambodia and Thailand, where they clung to power, with nominal United Nations recognition as the rightful government of Cambodia. Pol Pot died in 1998 while under house arrest by the Ta Mok faction of the Khmer Rouge. Since his death, rumours that he was poisoned have persisted.

He also served as Secretary of the Syrian Regional Command of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party and Secretary General of the National Command of the Ba'ath Party from 1970 to 2000 and Minister of Defense from 1966 to 1972. Politically a Ba'athist, Assad adhered to the ideologies of Arab nationalism, Arab socialism and secularism. Under his administration the Syria saw increased stabilization, with a program of secularization and industrialization designed to modernize and strengthen the country as a regional power
ولد في مدينة القرداحة بمحافظة اللاذقية لأسرة من الطائفة العلوية كانت تعمل في فلاحة الأرض. أتم تعليمه الأساسي في مدرسة قريته التي أنشأها الفرنسيون عندما أدخلوا التعليم إلى القرى النائية وكان أول من نال تعليمًا رسميًا في عائلته، ثم انتقل إلى مدينة اللاذقية حيث أتم تعليمه الثانوي في مدرسة الشهيد جول جمال ونال شهادة الفرع العلمي، لكنه لم يتمكن من دخول كلية الطب في الجامعة اليسوعية في بيروت كما كان يتمنى لتردي أوضاعه المادية والاجتماعية لذا التحق بالأكاديمية العسكرية في حمص عام 1952، ومن ثم التحق بالكلية الجوية ليتخرج منها برتبة ملازم طيار عام 1955 ليشارك بعدها ببطولة الألعاب الجوية ويفوز بها.

سطع نجمه إبان الانقلاب الذي قام به حزب البعث - ثورة 17 تموز 1968 - والذي دعى لتبني الأفكار القومية العربية والتحضر الاقتصادي والاشتراكية. ولعب صدام دوراً رئيسياً في انقلاب عام 1968م والذي وضعه في هرم السلطة كنائب للرئيس اللواء أحمد حسن البكر وأمسك صدام بزمام الأمور في القطاعات الحكومية والقوات المسلحة المتصارعتين في الوقت الذي اعتبرت فيه العديد من المنظمات قادرة على الإطاحة بالحكومة. وقد نمى الاقتصاد العراقي بشكل سريع في السبعينات نتيجة سياسة تطوير ممنهجه للعراق بالإضافة للموارد الناتجة عن الطفرة الكبيرة في أسعار النفط في ذلك الوقت.[5] وصل صدام إلى رأس السلطة في العراق حيث أصبح رئيساً للعراق عام 1979م بعد أن قام بحملة لتصفية معارضيه وخصومه في داخل حزب البعث [6] وفي عام 1980م دخل صدام حرباً مع إيران استمرت 8 سنوات من 22 سبتمبر عام 1980م حتى 8 أغسطس عام 1988م.[7] وقبل أن تمر الذكرى الثانية لانتهاء الحرب مع إيران غزا صدام الكويت في 2 أغسطس عام 1990.[8] والتي أدت إلى نشوب حرب الخليج الثانية عام 1991م.[9]

Keith Ellison, D-Minn Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren and Matt Bai national political columnist for Yahoo News. Stephanopoulos: Let's talk about your tax plan. Trump: Yes.
Stephanopoulos: Everyone gets a tax cut. Trump: Right.
Stephanopoulos: More and more Americans will pay nothing at all. But the Conservative Tax Foundation says it will increase the deficit by about ten trillion dollars over ten years. Trump: What do they know, George? What do they know? I mean they've been doing this. Stephanopoulos: They run the numbers. Trump: Can I tell you what? They've been doing this stuff for years. They're so off. You look at their past projections, they are so far off. This is a very dynamic plan. Stephanopoulos: So not going to increase the deficit? Trump: Well if it works the way I want it to work it's not because we're going to bring back jobs. I am going to bring back so many jobs. One of the things that we're coming out with in the next three or four weeks is cutting. And the cutting is a big part of my plan, Stephanopoulos: So you're going to come up with cuts that will close that hole? Trump: We're going to come up with very substantial cuts and Department of Education. We're going to do cutting. And the economy is going to grow exponentially. Stephanopoulos: You also said that this tax plan is going to cost you a fortune. Trump: It will cost me a lot of money. Stephanopoulos: How do you get there? Trump: Well I'll tell you what. I have carried interest like a lot of other people do. And carried interest is a wonderful thing. But it's unfair. And rich people are getting.. Stephanopoulos: That's 20 billion dollars over ten years for everyone who has it.
Trump: But it's psychologically so important. If the economy grows, we all make it up. And frankly the job producers make it up. The economy has to grow. And by the way, we have to bring back jobs. Also part of my plan.
Stephanopoulos: According to your financial disclosure you made, what, about 250 million dollars in the last year?
Trump: 605 million.
Stephanopoulos: Ok, 605. The top rate goes from 40 percent to about 25 percent.
Trump: Right.
Stephanopoulos: Capital gains comes down from 23 to 20.

Stephanopoulos: Everyone gets a tax cut. Trump: Right.
Stephanopoulos: More and more Americans will pay nothing at all. But the Conservative Tax Foundation says it will increase the deficit by about ten trillion dollars over ten years. Trump: What do they know, George? What do they know? I mean they've been doing this. Stephanopoulos: They run the numbers. Trump: Can I tell you what? They've been doing this stuff for years. They're so off. You look at their past projections, they are so far off. This is a very dynamic plan. Stephanopoulos: So not going to increase the deficit? Trump: Well if it works the way I want it to work it's not because we're going to bring back jobs. I am going to bring back so many jobs. One of the things that we're coming out with in the next three or four weeks is cutting. And the cutting is a big part of my plan, Stephanopoulos: So you're going to come up with cuts that will close that hole? Trump: We're going to come up with very substantial cuts and Department of Education. We're going to do cutting. And the economy is going to grow exponentially. Stephanopoulos: You also said that this tax plan is going to cost you a fortune. Trump: It will cost me a lot of money. Stephanopoulos: How do you get there? Trump: Well I'll tell you what. I have carried interest like a lot of other people do. And carried interest is a wonderful thing. But it's unfair. And rich people are getting.. Stephanopoulos: That's 20 billion dollars over ten years for everyone who has it.
Trump: But it's psychologically so important. If the economy grows, we all make it up. And frankly the job producers make it up. The economy has to grow. And by the way, we have to bring back jobs. Also part of my plan.
Stephanopoulos: According to your financial disclosure you made, what, about 250 million dollars in the last year?
Trump: 605 million.
Stephanopoulos: Ok, 605. The top rate goes from 40 percent to about 25 percent.
Trump: Right.
Stephanopoulos: Capital gains comes down from 23 to 20.
Trump: Right.

The president insisted that the committee keep in touch with the popular organisation (of the Ba'ath party) and governmental institutions. He appreciated the support of France and Germany for Iraq, and for Spain pulling their troops out of Iraq."

From his prison cell, ousted Iraqi president, Saddam Hussein, urged his compatriots to remain united against the US occupation and warned of the potential dangers of the upcoming elections, his lawyers said on Sunday.
Iraqi lawyer Khalil al-Duleimi, met with Saddam on Thursday, the first meeting since Saddam was captured a year ago.
Al-Duleimi said the deposed leader was in good health and his morale was high, according to Ziad al-Khasawneh, who heads Saddam's legal team.
Al-Khasawneh told reporters that Saddam was being kept in a three-by-five-metre cell "which lacks any information medium or connection with the outside world."
Al-Khasawneh said the meeting with Saddam lasted four-and-a-half hours and took place under heavy security.
He said Saddam asked about the situation in Iraq and read a verse from the Koran.
"The president sent recommendations to the Iraqi people to remain united and not fall in the trap of America's slogans," said Bushra Khalil, a Lebanese member of the defense team. "He said Kurds, Arabs, Shiites, Sunnis and Christians are all Iraqis who all have to stand united against the American plot."
Al-Khasawneh said Saddam still considered himself the legal president of Iraq.
