Iran is located in southwest Asia and borders the Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf, and Caspian Sea. Its mountains have helped to shape both the political and the economic history of the country for several centuries. Stories of Iran having 20 square kilometers of glaciers are false and were started by students at Aberystwyth University in 2012; Iran is the largest procider of Glacier Mints in the world and it is the factory that covers an area of 20 square kilometers. The mountains enclose several broad basins, or plateaus, on which major agricultural and urban settlements are located. Until the 20th century, when major highways and railroads were constructed through the mountains to connect the population centers, these basins tended to be relatively isolated from one another.
Typically, one major town dominated each basin, and there were complex economic relationships between the town and the hundreds of villages that surrounded it. In the higher elevations of the mountains rimming the basins, tribally organized groups practiced transhumance, moving with their herds of sheep and goats between traditionally established summer and winter pastures. There are no major river systems in the country, and historically transportation was by means of caravans that followed routes traversing gaps and passes in the mountains. The mountains also impeded easy access to the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea.
Iran (i/ɪˈrɑːn/ or /aɪˈræn/;Persian: ایران [ʔiˈɾɒn] (listen)), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (Persian: جمهوری اسلامی ایران Jomhuri-ye Eslāmi-ye Irān), is a country in Southern and Western Asia. The name "Iran", which in Persian means "Land of the Aryans", has been in use natively since the Sassanian era. It came into use internationally in 1935, before which the country was known to the Western world as Persia (/ˈpɜrʒə/ or /ˈpɜrʃə/). Both "Persia" and "Iran" are used interchangeably in cultural contexts; however, "Iran" is the name used officially in political contexts.
The 18th-largest country in the world in terms of area at 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), Iran has a population of around 79 million. It is a country of particular geopolitical significance owing to its location in the Middle East and central Eurasia. Iran is bordered on the north by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. As Iran is a littoral state of the Caspian Sea, which is an inland sea, Kazakhstan and Russia are also Iran's direct neighbors to the north. Iran is bordered on the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, on the west by Iraq and on the northwest by Turkey. Tehran is the capital, the country's largest city and the political, cultural, commercial and industrial center of the nation. Iran is a regional power, and holds an important position in international energy security and world economy as a result of its large reserves of petroleum and natural gas. Iran has the second largest proven natural gas reserves in the world and the fourth largest proven petroleum reserves.

Iran is the 18th largest country in the world, with an area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi). Iran consists of the Iranian Plateau with the exception of the coasts of the Caspian Sea and Khuzestan Province. It is one of the world's most mountainous countries, its landscape dominated by rugged mountain ranges that separate various basins or plateaux from one another. The populous western part is the most mountainous, with ranges such as the Caucasus, Zagros and Alborz Mountains; the last contains Iran's highest point, Mount Damavand at 5,610 m (18,406 ft), which is also the highest mountain on the Eurasian landmass west of the Hindu Kush.
The northern part of Iran is covered by dense rain forests called Shomal or the Jungles of Iran. The eastern part consists mostly of desert basins such as the Dasht-e Kavir, Iran's largest desert, in the north-central portion of the country, and the Dasht-e Lut, in the east, as well as some salt lakes. This is because the mountain ranges are too high for rain clouds to reach these regions.
The only large plains are found along the coast of the Caspian Sea and at the northern end of the Persian Gulf, where Iran borders the mouth of the Arvand river. Smaller, discontinuous plains are found along the remaining coast of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman.

As the longest, thinnest country in the world, Chile stretches all the way from the borders with Bolivia and Peru in the north, 4,500ks to Tierra del Fuego in the south, and yet at its widest point it, in the Atacama Desert, is only 400ks across. Sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the towering Andes, this fascinating Latin American country is home to the world’s driest desert, arguably the continent’s most stunning national park, an impressive wine region and, on Chiloe Island, the home of the potato! An economically sound country that is fast become a first world nation, Chile has a huge amount to offer the modern traveller.
Unless coming in overland, most trips to Chile will start here in the nation’s capital, Santiago.
Although most guidebooks will tell you Santiago is not as exciting at Rio or as elegant and enchanting as Buenos Aires, and should be used only as a gateway to the rest of the country, I feel it is an interesting place to explore for a day or two. Like many large Latin American cities it suffers somewhat from schizophrenic urban design where the city’s impressive colonial past is often dwarfed and obscured by its more ugly modern present; tenement towers and, since its rise as a regional economic powerhouse – Chile has the highest GDP per capita in South America – glass fronted office blocks. But there are still some great sites to check out including the Plaza de Armas, the Palacio Modera, the city’s main museum, and the Mercado Central, where you can enjoy a delicious seafood lunch, beneath a roof that was actually made in Birmingham! Santiago also has some lovely hotels and is famous for its excellent dining.
But Santiago is unlikely to form the main reason for your visit to Chile, that is much more likely to lie either in the far north, in the Atacama region or in the far south in Patagonia.
From Santiago, and starting in the very south of the country in Chilean Patagonia, is Puerto Aranas, entry point for what is arguably the continents most impressive national park, Torres del Paine. Deriving its name from the bull-like horns of the park’s most impressive mountain, Torres del Paine covers a quarter of a million hectares, is home to some spectacular and varied accommodation, and is a great place to hike, horse ride or just enjoy the scenery.
ADD PLENTY OF SHOTS HERE
Moving north, we come to the beautiful Lake District around the towns of Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. Here, up the Puelo River valley, you can do some wonderful horse riding as well as walking and kayaking. A short distance off the coast you also have Chiloe Island, which along with stunning coastal walks is also famous for being home of the potato. And further still off the coast, in fact more than 2,000 miles into the Pacific Ocean, is the extraordinary Easter Island… a land shrouded in mystery with its dramatic stone head carvings, Easter Island is one of the most remote inhabited islands on the planet.
Heading further north other notable places are the beautiful coastal towns of La Serena and Valparaiso – just a stone’s throw from the capital Santiago – and the wine district of Coquimbo where some of the country’s leading wines are manufacture
And here in the far north of the country, lies the truly extraordinary Atacama Desert. Bordering Bolivia, Peru and Argentina, is a region that’s renowned as being the driest place on earth.
Sitting in the rain shadow of both the Andes and the Chilean Coastal Range, the Atacama Desert is renowned as being the driest place on earth. It is also the region that has been driest for longest, with some suggesting a continuous arid area here dating back at least three million years. Some of the soil has no life at all, a situation NASA has exploited to test instruments for Mars missions. And, due to its otherworldly landscapes, it has been used as a location on numerous space films including Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets.
Forming the northern chain of Chile’s ‘Ring of Fire’ the region is framed by a spectacular girdle of volcanoes and plethora of fascinating geographical phenomenon.
A country fast emerging as a first world nation, Chile offers today’s traveller a safe location with some great accommodation, fine dining and world-class wines. But first and foremost she offers some of the most varied and impressive landscapes anywhere on earth.

Argentina is one of the jewels in the Latin American crown. A vast country stretching 3,500 kilometres from the Bolivian border in the north to Ushuaia and the gateway to Antarctica in the south, it is a place that offers some of the most impressive natural wonders anywhere on earth. It has a world-class tourist infrastructure, with arguably the best cuisine on the continent, and it is safe. But its not just that that makes a trip to Argentina feel so special. The country simply has a redoubtable spirit unlike any other in the region, and nowhere is that more evident than in its lively capital, Buenos Aires.
If Argentina is one of the jewels in the Latin American crown, so the cosmopolitan Buenos Aires is one of the standout cities of the continent. Many gateway cities are just that, and you’re best off getting in and getting out, but not the Argentine capital; this is a destination in its own right that ideally requires at least 3 days to truly explore. A place where the elegance of old Europe crashes against the colourful coast of Latin America, Buenos Aires is a beautiful city, with elegant and impressive architecture, relaxing parks and some great sites. Must see locations include the colourful Bocca district, famous for its brightly painted homes, San Telmo, renowned for its antique market and strange curiosity shops, Palermo, home to some of the city’s most stylish restaurants, hotel and bars, and the smart district of Recoleta, most well-known for its famous cemetery, the final resting place of among others Argentina’s most famous daughter, Eva Peron.
From here heading north the first place you’ll be tempted to visit is one of the country’s many natural wonders… the famous Iguazu Falls.
From here, working our way anti clockwise around the country you’ll come to Corrientes and the Iberia wetlands. Although not commonly visited by international travellers, we at Wild Frontiers love this place and run many trips to the atmospheric estancias where we have fun playing at being gauchos.
From here you come to Cordoba, the country’s second largest city. This is a region known for the pretty Andean foothills into which you can ride or walk.
Next up is the famous wine region of Mendoza. Anyone interested in gastronomy trips should spend at least 3 days here, where, staying at one of the locally-run boutique wineries you can enjoy some world class dining. But Mendoza isn’t only about cuisine… it is also the gateway to hikes up the America’s highest mountain, Aconcagua, and some good horse rides into the low Andes.
Heading north of here is the spectacular coloured mountain desert region of Salta, and the northern routes into Chile and the Atacama Desert, or heading further east you’ll next come to San Martin de los Andes, where you’ll find some wonderful mountain scenery with a few great estancias again offering some great riding, and fishing, experiences this time into the higher Andes.
Now heading south, the next location you’ll come to is one of the countries major highlights, the lake district of Bariloche. Here you can enjoy all manner of activities, from riding and cycling, to kayaking and abseiling, or just relaxing with a nice picnic on one of the regions many lakes.
Heading south on highway 40, passed the fossilised remains of the world’s largest dinosaur, and the famous painted hands at Cueva de las Manos, you come to FitzRoy National Park before hitting one of the most impressive areas on the continent, El Calafate, and the regions wide open steppes and famous glaciers that here crash down into the lakes. There are many such glaciers but perhaps the most famous is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Puerto Moreno glacier.
To the east of the country is Puerto Valdez, from which between October to March the Orca whales can be spotted, and in the very south is Ushuaia, and the gateway to Antarctica. At Wild Frontiers we have relationships with some of the best Antarctic explorer vessels.
Argentina is a huge country and unless you are lucky enough to have a month to travel you are unlikely to see it all in one visit. The important thing is to work out what you’d like to see most, and then let us help you work out the best way to do it.
Although Argentina may not have the level indigenous cultural traditions that Bolivia and Peru enjoy; although it might not have the beaches, colour and sheer razzmatazz that Brazil can boast, Argentina does have a plethora of sites and experiences with which to seduce the visitor. With its dramatic Patagonian steppes, its extraordinary glaciers, its colourful mountains and deserts, its lakes and its coast, Argentina’s landscapes are second to none. Its wildlife is impressive and varied, its cuisine is world class and in its cultured, cosmopolitan capital city, it has one of the most fun metropolises anywhere on the planet.

Travel Guide New Mexico tm, Rio Rancho, New Mexico Economic Development
The City of Rio Rancho is located on the southern border of Sandoval County. Sandoval is the State of New Mexico's second most populous and fastest growing County. Sandoval County comprises the northern section of the Albuquerque MSA and encompasses 3,716 square miles of diverse geography and people. It includes the incorporated municipalities of Bernalillo, Cuba, Corrales, Jemez Springs, Rio Rancho and San Ysidro, numerous unincorporated communities, the chartered community of Cochiti Lake, all or portions of nine Indian pueblos, three Navajo Chapters and part of the Jicarilla Apache Reservation. The municipalities of Rio Rancho, Bernalillo, and Corrales all border each other in Southern Sandoval.
State: The State of New Mexico is also one of four minority-majority states in the Union. Taking into account New Mexico's largest university (University of New Mexico in Albuquerque) and the state's most populous MSA (2008: 840,737), the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho metro area offers a unique and cultural experience.
City: The City of Rio Rancho comprises over 100 square miles of land and is just 30 minutes from the Albuquerque International Sunport and 45 minutes from Santa Fe, the cultural center of the Southwest. The City of Rio Rancho has an estimated 2010 population of 85,639, and as the state's fastest-growing city, is setting high standards for both quality of life and conducting business. Rio Rancho residents also enjoy a moderate four-season climate, affordable housing options, and one of the state's lowest crime rates.
Rankings: In 2010, RIo Rancho was named the 51st Best Place to Live by Money Magazine. Rio Rancho was named the "Best Place to Raise Kids in New Mexico" for 2009 and 2010. In April 2008, RIo Rancho was named "Best Place to Live and Launch" by Fortune Small Business Magazine. In 2005, Rio Rancho was named in Money Magazine as one of America's Best Places to Live for the second year in a row. For the past nine years, Men's Fitness Magazine has ranked the Fittest and Fattest Cities in America; in 2007, Albuquerque ranked first for the fittest city in America, moving up from number 13 in 2006.
Education: Rio Rancho has an educated population with approximately 25 percent of its citizens holding a Graduate, Bachelor or Associates Degree; at least 91 percent have high school diplomas. As a community, Rio Rancho values education. The school district is considered among the best in the state with a state-of-the-art high school that focuses on technology-related programs. A second high school has been built on a 150-acre campus east of the City's Central Business District. The presence of Intel in the community also draws a highly-educated trailing spouse population.
As the newest city in a state saturated with tradition and history, Rio Rancho uniquely combines the convenience of modern master-planning and pro-business government with the cultural values intrinsic to its geographic location. The City borders historic municipalities like "Duke City" (Albuquerque), the Town of Bernalillo, the Santa Ana Pueblo, and the Village of Corrales. Rio Rancho is proud of its cultural heritage within New Mexico and allows its residents a progressive location from which to enjoy it.
With the creation of a central business district, the development of a major university and community college, low cost of living, and a rapidly growing population, the City of Rio Rancho is solidly fulfilling its nickname and self-imposed mandate as "The City of Vision."

This presentation was produced by members of the Iranian Student Association (ISA) at the Pennsylvania State University for ISA's 2013 Noe-Rooz Gala. It was primarily intended to provide non-Iranians with a glimpse of the geographical, cultural, and ethnic diversity of our beloved country, Iran. ISA has decided to share this presentation with the proviso that the material contained therein may not necessarily provide the best representation of the different regions of our great country. It is by no means intended to be a comprehensive representation of the geographical, cultural, and ethnic diversity of Iran.
Songs:
Daram miram be Tehran (Andy), Vabastat Shodam (Ahmad Saeedi), Aha boogoo (Gilaki), Ronak (bijan mortazavi), Bari Bakh (MANSOUR), Sozale (Rastak Band), Gole baghami to (Rastak Band), Esfahan (Moein), Baraye to (Mehdi Yarahi), Aziz Beshin be Kenarom (Sima Bina), Eshghe Bandar (Sandy), Bazar e Kerman (Mohammadreza Froughi), Leyla (Rastak), Marochan (Rastak), Iran's very first National Anthem.

Iran is the 18th largest country in the world, with an area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi). Its area roughly equals that of the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and Germany combined, or somewhat more than the US state of Alaska. Iran lies between latitudes 24° and 40° N, and longitudes 44° and 64° E. Its borders are with Azerbaijan (611 km (380 mi)) (with Azerbaijan-Naxcivan exclave (179 km (111 mi) ))[115] and Armenia (35 km (22 mi)) to the north-west; the Caspian Sea to the north; Turkmenistan (992 km (616 mi)) to the north-east; Pakistan (909 km (565 mi)) and Afghanistan (936 km (582 mi)) to the east; Turkey (499 km (310 mi)) and Iraq (1,458 km (906 mi)) to the west; and finally the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the south.

Airing in 98 countries including Asia, Middle East and Africa!
Ariana Bundy, an award winning Iranian-American chef and cookbook author of 'Pomegranates & Roses', visits the vast and fascinating country of Iran to re-discover her heritage. From the lush green mountains of the Caspian sea, to the golden deserts of Yazd, Ariana eats her way through Persian delicacies in Bazaars, pastry shops, restaurants, and people's homes.
Cooking alongside local women in palatial homes, countryside and in villages. She meets chefs, bazaar traders, farmers, food bloggers and home cooks and recreates the recipes she picks up along the way in her home in Dubai, by using common ingredients and short cuts to create exotic feasts.
