The 10th century is the period from 901 to 1000 in accordance with the Julian calendar in the Common Era.
The 10th century is usually regarded as a low point in European history. In China it was also a period of political upheaval. In the Muslim World, however, it was a cultural zenith, especially in Spain under the Caliphate of Córdoba. Additionally, the 10th century was the zenith for the Byzantine and Bulgarian Empires.
Medievalist and historian of technology Lynn White said that "to the modern eye, it is very nearly the darkest of the Dark Ages", but concluded that ". . . if it was dark, it was the darkness of the womb." Similarly, Helen Waddell wrote that the 10th century was that which "in the textbooks disputes with the seventh the bad eminence, the nadir of the human intellect." Even in the 15th century, Lorenzo Valla described it as the Century of Lead and Iron and later Cardinal Baronius as the Leaden Century or Iron Century.

Saʻadiah ben Yosef Gaon (Arabic: سعيد بن يوسف الفيومي Saʻīd bin Yūsuf al-Fayyūmi, Sa'id ibn Yusuf al-Dilasi, Saadia ben Yosef aluf, Sa'id ben Yusuf ra's al-Kull;Hebrew: רבי סעדיה בן יוסף אלפיומי גאון or in short: סעדיה גאון; Alternative English Names: Saadia b. Joseph,Saadia ben Joseph or Saadia ben Joseph of Faym or Saadia ben Joseph Al-Fayyumi; b. Egypt 882/892, d. Baghdad 942) was a prominent rabbi, Jewish philosopher, and exegete of the Geonic period.
The first important rabbinic figure to write extensively in Arabic, he is considered the founder of Judeo-Arabic literature. Known for his works on Hebrew linguistics, Halakha, and Jewish philosophy, he was one of the more sophisticated practitioners of the philosophical school known as the "Jewish Kalam" (Stroumsa 2003). In this capacity, his philosophical work Emunoth ve-Deoth represents the first systematic attempt to integrate Jewish theology with components of Greek philosophy. Saadia was also very active in opposition to Karaism, in defense of rabbinic Judaism.

Two 10th century Cambodian stone statues were returned to their homeland on Tuesday, in a high-profile case of allegedly looted artefacts.
They had been displayed for nearly two decades at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The voluntary return of the pair of "Kneeling Attendants" statues by one of America's foremost cultural institutions is seen as setting a precedent for the restoration of artworks to their places of origin, from which they were often removed in unclear circumstances.
It comes as the Cambodian government asks other museums to return similar objects.
Cambodian officials and Buddhist monks were on hand for a welcome ceremony for the life-size sandstone statues at the capital's international airport.
"It is important for the country, of course, for all of us Cambodians," said Chan Tani, Cambodian Secretary of State for the Cabinet Office.
"We got back what our ancestors left for us. So we should be proud of it."
The statues come from the Koh Ker temple in Siem Reap province, which is home to the famed Angkor Wat temples.
Officials say they were stolen from the temple in the 1970s.
The museum said the statues were given in pieces by different donors between 1987 and 1992.
"It's a great honour for us to participate in this ceremony and to see the return of these wonderful objects to Cambodia," said Maxwell Hearn, Head of the Asian Art department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, during Tuesday's event.
The museum announced in May it was returning the statues after researchers discovered new evidence indicating that they had been illegally exported under Cambodian law.
A 1993 Cambodian law prohibited the removal of cultural artefacts without government permission.
Pieces taken after that date have stronger legal standing to compel their new owners abroad to return them.
But there is also general agreement in the art world that pieces were acquired illegitimately if they were exported without clear and valid documentation after 1970 - the year of a United Nations cultural agreement targeting trafficking in antiquities.
Chan Tani said the returned statues will first be displayed at the offices of Prime Minister Hun Sen, where there will be an international meeting this month of the U.N. cultural agency's World Heritage Committee.
They will afterward be moved to Phnom Penh's National Museum.
Largely due to the social and political disruptions of war, widespread looting of Cambodia's ancient temples took place in the 1970s through the 1990s, with many items smuggled through Thailand. Associated Press, Phnom Penh.

Archaeologists recently uncovered indications of ancient vineyards dedicated to the cultivation of grapes in a Spanish medieval settlement.
Wine has been a part of numerous cultures for many centuries. In a recent discovery, workers recently uncovered indications of ancient vineyards dedicated to the cultivation of grapes in a Spanish medieval settlement.
The vineyards were located at Zaballa, a medieval settlement reportedly abandoned during the 15th century. During an excavation of the site, archaeologists located seed remnants and pollen which were later analyzed.
Archaeo-botanical studies provided indicated that the settlement was home to grape vine cultivation during the early 10th century. Ancient tools were also found at the site, further verifying the theory, as they were only compatible with vineyard use.
The researchers located another nearby site which was used for the cultivation of cereals during the same time period. The settlements help to provide insight on how ancient society dealt with economic and political changes.
A medieval archeologist involved in the research stated that the settlements "are historical spaces brimming with explanatory significance to help us understand the societies of the past; indeed, they require attention which they have not had until now."
