Upon the user "PurpleInTheDeep" request, here's not one Yes show with Trevor Rabin on guitar, but the VERY FIRST ONE. The 1984 tour was intended to start in January 26th in North Forth Myers, Florida, but since Rabin had a illness on his spleen, 24 shows needed to be cancelled and re-scheduled, with the tour kicking out at Millersville, February 28th. Since, i have a lot of stuff to tell about this show, i'm gonna do that on a next paragraph, so here we go... After the break-up of the Drama lineup in early 1981, Yes became inactive for nearly two years, and was reformed in 1983 bringing back Jon Anderson and Tony Kaye (wich was off since mid-1971). Trevor Rabin was hired to replace Steve Howe (who formed the supergroup Asia with Greg Lake, Carl Palmer and Geoff Downes) and despite being a spetacular guitarrist, he's got a much more "poppish" tone to his playing if compared with Steve's awesome versatility. Several songs started sounding very different in comparision with the 1970's performances, and it can be a good or a bad thing depending of the listener (the first of the only two performances of Perpetual Change on this tour is a good example of this). Jon's voice sounds clean and strong as nearly always (although it considerably changed after nearly five years) but the good old Tony Kaye isn't exactly the same of before: although i really appreciated his work on the first three albums (especially on The Yes Album), now he decided to use several keyboards outside the Hammond Organ, and some of his timbre choices on certain songs doesn't sound quite right for my ears (like his synthesizers on Starship Trooper). Also, his technique apparently didn't improved enough as the years gone by, and he does have some hard time playing Wakeman songs (most noticeably Roundabout) and on other songs he simply doesn't sound inventive, like on Yours Is No Disgrace. In spite of it, he does have moments of brillance, like his organ solo on Hearts (the version itself is fantastic with or without his solo), so don't you expect Big Generator Tour'esque failure of him! Alan White still sounds awesome (although he started using electronic drums along with his usual acoustic kit) and Chris' bass guitar is powerful like we can always hope! Being the first show of the tour, the band sounds nervous in several spots (the vocal harmonies aren't 100% clean on songs like Leave It and Our Song, and there's a few note/timing issues throghout, although they aren't that bad) but they loosen up very well as the set progresses. There's awesome renditions of I've Seen All Good People, It Can Happen, Changes, the Whitefish instrumental section (complete with snippets of Tempus Fugit; although Jon refused to sing it, he can be heard singing "yes, yes" during the bass break) and City Of Love. This show also features one of the not so many times where Roundabout was played at its full during the entire tour (and i assume the later versions are much better than this one, even stripped down). The audience sounds very enthusiastic and propels the band to perform at the same mood. The audio quality is good overrall, just a bit distant, but still highly enjoyable.
