Politics in Norway take place in the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic constitutional monarchy. Executive power is exercised by the King's council, the cabinet, led by the Prime Minister of Norway. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Storting, elected within a multi-party system. The Judiciary is independent of the executive branch and the legislature.
The Norwegian constitution, signed by the Eidsvoll assembly on 17 May 1814, transformed Norway from being an absolute monarchy into a constitutional monarchy. The 1814 constitution granted rights such as freedom of speech (§100) and rule of law (§§ 96, 97, 99). Important amendments include:
Norway is a constitutional monarchy, where the King has mainly symbolic power. The Royal House is a branch of the princely family of Glücksburg, originally from Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. The functions of the King, Harald V, are mainly ceremonial, but he has influence as the symbol of national unity. Although the constitution of 1814 grants important executive powers to the King, these are always exercised by the Council of State in the name of the King (King's Council, or cabinet). The King is also High Protector of the Church of Norway (the state church), Grand Master of The Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, and symbolically Supreme Commander of the Norwegian armed forces.

Norway 
i/ˈnɔrweɪ/ (Norwegian: 
Norge (Bokmål) or Noreg (Nynorsk)), officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a Nordic unitary constitutional monarchy whose territory comprises the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Jan Mayen, the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard and the subantarctic Bouvet Island. Norway has a total area of 385,252 square kilometres (148,747 sq mi) and a population of about 5 million. It is the second least densely populated country in Europe. The majority of the country shares a border to the east with Sweden; its northernmost region is bordered by Finland to the south and Russia to the east; in its south Norway borders the Skagerrak Strait across from Denmark. The capital city of Norway is Oslo. Norway's extensive coastline, facing the North Atlantic Ocean and the Barents Sea, is home to its famous fjords.

Hito Steyerl has produced a variety of work as a filmmaker and author in the field of essayist documentary video. Her principal topics of interest are media and the global circulation of images. In 2004 she participated in Manifesta 5, The European Biennial of Contemporary Art. She also participated in documenta 12, Kassel 2007, Shanghai biennial 2008, and Gwangju and Taipeh biennials 2010 and was the subject of numerous solo exhibitions throughout Europe. In addition, Steyerl holds a PhD in Philosophy, is a professor for media art at the University of Arts Berlin and has taught film and theory at (amongst other institutions) Goldsmiths College and Bard College, Center for Curatorial Studies.

The Caucasus in Russian politics and strategy
The Caucasus was historically Russia's quintessential frontier: the place where modern conceptions of Russian identity were formed and here typically Russian cultural tropes - from toasting rituals to
leaping Cossack dancers - came into being. The last two decades have seen a remarkable return of the Caucasus to its place at the center of Russian politics and strategy. What are the Caucasus dimensions of Russian domestic affairs? How will the turbulent north Caucasus develop after the Ukraine crisis? And what about the long list of territorial disputes in the South Caucasus - the archipelago of de facto states that could develop as unhappy models for eastern Ukraine? Charles King will place Russia's relations with the north and south Caucasus in historical perspective and examine essential challenges for the future.
Charles King is Professor of International Affairs and Government at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. His research has focused on nationalism, ethnic politics, transitions from authoritarianism, and the relationship between history and the social sciences. He is the author or editor of several books books, including The Ghost ofFreedom: A History of the Caucasus (Oxford University Press, 2008).
The seminar is part of the 'New Russian Nationalism' seminar series, a series of quarterly presentations on various aspects of Russian nationalism and patriotism, and part of the research project 'Nation-building, nationalism and the new "other" in today's Russia', a joint project between NUPI and the University of Oslo funded by the Research Council of Norway under the NORRUSS programme.

Feminism has been enjoying a popular resurgence in much of Europe - but in Sweden and Norway it is becoming a political force. What does the growth of a feminist party in both countries mean for mainstream politics and the fight for equality?
Cathrine Linn Kristiansen does not look like a typical politician.
At 27, she is unusually young to be leading a party, and her oversized glasses and pink lipstick betray a striking fashion sense.
Ms Kristiansen has no parallel in most European countries - she is a party candidate campaigning on a purely feminist platform.
She will be standing in local elections in Oslo for Feminist Initiative (Fi) in the autumn. The party, founded in Sweden 10 years ago, launched in neighbouring Norway last week and announced it would be fielding candidates in Oslo and Bergen.
"We have waited long enough for other parties to get their act together," Ms Kristiansen says.

The Caucasus in Russian politics and strategy
The University of Oslo and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, NUPI, have the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar with Professor Charles King, Georgetown University: The Caucasus in Russian politics and strategy The Caucasus was historically Russia's quintessential frontier: the place where modern conceptions of Russian identity were formed and here typically Russian cultural tropes - from toasting rituals to leaping Cossack dancers - came into being. The last two decades have seen a remarkable return of the Caucasus to its place at the center of Russian politics and strategy. What are the Caucasus dimensions of Russian domestic affairs? How will the turbulent north Caucasus develop after the Ukraine crisis? And what about the long list of territorial disputes in the South Caucasus - the archipelago of de facto states that could develop as unhappy models for eastern Ukraine? Charles King will place Russia's relations with the north and south Caucasus in historical perspective and examine essential challenges for the future. Charles King is Professor of International Affairs and Government at Georgetown University, Washington, DC. His research has focused on nationalism, ethnic politics, transitions from authoritarianism, and the relationship between history and the social sciences. He is the author or editor of several books books, including The Ghost ofFreedom: A History of the Caucasus (Oxford University Press, 2008). The seminar is part of the 'New Russian Nationalism' seminar series, a series of quarterly presentations on various aspects of Russian nationalism and patriotism, and part of the research project 'Nation-building, nationalism and the new "other" in today's Russia', a joint project between NUPI and the University of Oslo funded by the Research Council of Norway under the NORRUSS programme.- published: 10 Jun 2015

Dimitri Roussopoulos is an author, editor and activist with over fifty years of experience from various social movements. Currently he is president of the Taskforce on Municipal Democracy of the City of Montreal. The conference was organized by New Compass and the Department of Sociology and Human Geography at the University of Oslo. In collaboration with the Oslo urban ecology journal Bytopia, with the Swedish network Democratic Transition and Färnebo Folkehögskola, as well as with the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas at the University of Oslo. Feminist Initiative shakes up politics in Sweden and Norway
Feminist Initiative shakes up politics in Sweden and Norway - 09.04.2015 Feminism has been enjoying a popular resurgence in much of Europe - but in Sweden and Norway it is becoming a political force. What does the growth of a feminist party in both countries mean for mainstream politics and the fight for equality? Cathrine Linn Kristiansen does not look like a typical politician. At 27, she is unusually young to be leading a party, and her oversized glasses and pink lipstick betray a striking fashion sense. Ms Kristiansen has no parallel in most European countries - she is a party candidate campaigning on a purely feminist platform. She will be standing in local elections in Oslo for Feminist Initiative (Fi) in the autumn. The party, founded in Sweden 10 years ago, launched in neighbouring Norway last week and announced it would be fielding candidates in Oslo and Bergen.
