Colima (Spanish pronunciation: [koˈlima]), officially Free and Sovereign State of Colima (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Colima), is one of the 31 states which, with the Federal District, make up the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It shares its name with its capital and main city, Colima.
Colima is a small state located in the Western Mexico region on Mexico’s central Pacific coast. It shares borders with the states of Jalisco and Michoacán. In addition to the capital city of Colima, the state's main cities include Manzanillo and Tecomán. Despite being the fourth smallest entity in Mexico with the lowest numerical population, the state has one of Mexico’s highest standards of living and lowest unemployment.
The state covered a territory of 5,455km2 and is the fourth smallest federal entity after Tlaxcala, Morelos and the Federal District of Mexico City, with only .3% of the country total territory. The state is located in the middle of Mexico’s Pacific coast, bordered by the states of Jalisco and Michoacán along with the Pacific Ocean. Colima’s territory also includes the Revillagigedo Islands which consist of Socorro, San Benedicto, Clarión and Roca Partida. They are under federal jurisdiction but are considered as part of the municipality of Manzanillo . Politically, the state is divided into ten municipalities . Natural geography divides the state into a northern and southern region. The north has a cooler climate due to the higher mountains. The south is hotter and includes the Pacific Ocean coastline. The Revillagigedo Islands are of volcanic origin which are dispersed along the19° north over an areas of about 400 km. In total, they cover an area of 205km2. The altitude of the state varies from zero at the coastline to 3,839 masl at the crater of the Colima Volcano .

La calidez no sólo está presente en el clima de Colima, también se encuentra en el corazón de su gente. Esto lo comprueba nuestro guía, Bruno Bichir, cuando camina por los portales y llega al restaurante --del mismo nombre-- a desayunar la "pepena". Después de probar este platillo tradicional realiza una visita al taller del artista Gregorio Candelario, quien realiza bellísimas máscaras que representan ya sea a los animales de la región, a personajes o a deidades prehispánicas.
Después, con la historia de Rulfo en la memoria, recorre las calles de Comala, donde encuentra una efigie dedicada a este virtuoso escritor mexicano. Y aprovechando su paso por este pueblo mágico, Bruno prueba la "tuba" una bebida preparada con la savia del cocotero.
Y ya entrada la tarde, como en muchos de los lugares que ha visitado, los paisajes purifican al alma: rayos de sol asomando detrás de los volcanes crean una gama infinita de naranjas, rosados y amarillos. Con esta hermosa vista, Bruno se dirige al jardín Gregorio Torres Quintero, que se ubica detrás de la catedral, para terminar el día con una exquisita cena en el restaurante Aroma o Cenaduría Julia.

Repeatedly, within about 5000 year cycles, the volcano has built a new edifice and then collapsed again, devastating large swathes of surrounding landscape. Today around 400000 people live in the areas that may be affected.
The volcano is presently in a state of heightened activity, marked by frequent small to moderate explosive events.
The video includes timelapse animations from nighttime eruptions, spectacular still images, daytime eruptions and video from a volcano monitoring flight.

We are particularly relieved that Puerto Vallarta was largely unscathed by the hurricane because, like us here in Jamaica, that city relies heavily on tourism for economic survival ...
