Tensions flaring up in occupied Palestinian territories; Israeli forces have shot dead two Palestinians accused of launching attacks against Israelis in Jerusalem al-Quds.
The slain Palestinians are said to have shot and stabbed passengers on a bus, killing two Israelis. Elsewhere in the city, a Palestinian motorist rammed his vehicle into a crowded bus stop. He stabbed and killed one Israeli rabbi. The attacker has been taken into custody. Another Palestinian was detained in Tel Aviv where he allegedly stabbed and wounded an Israeli passerby. Seven Israelis have been killed in attacks by Palestinians since the beginning of this month. Meanwhile, fresh clashes have broken out between Israeli forces and Palestinian protesters in several locations across the West Bank.
Later on Tuesday, a Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces in Bethlehem. His death brings to 30 the number of Palestinians killed during the ongoing wave of violence that began on October the first. Israeli forces have also clashed with Palestinian protesters in the Gaza Strip. Israeli forces used tear gas to disperse demonstrators near the heavily fortified Erez crossing point. At least 30 Palestinians were wounded.

During the current wave of violence, many of the Palestinian attackers have come from East Jerusalem. The tension began with rumors Israel wanted to take over the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Eastern part of the country. Rumors the Israeli government denies. The Al-Aqsa compound is revered by Jews as the Temple Mount, and is the third holiest site in Islam, a national symbol for Palestinians. Israel took control of East Jerusalem including the holy sites in 1967, and this annexation is not recognized internationally.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says Palestinians have the right to defend themselves against the Israeli occupation.
This is the first speech by Abbas since the violence broke out between Palestinians and Israeli forces in the occupied territories two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Palestinian envoy to the United Nations has requested the international body to deploy protection forces in East Jerusalem al-Quds. Riyad Mansour described the situation in the West Bank as explosive, calling for the formation of an international force to guarantee the preservation of the status quo in the occupied territory. Israel has announced further drastic measures to intensify its crackdown on Palestinians. It has eased firearms laws for Israeli settlers and stripped some palestinian citizens of their residency permits. Israeli troops have also closed Palestinian neighborhoods.

Israeli troops have shot and killed more Palestinians in the occupied territories as tensions between the two sides reach a climax.
Israeli forces killed two Palestinians following a shooting attack on a bus in Armon Hanetziv area in the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds. They say two Israelis were killed and several others injured in the attack. Earlier, Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian man after he allegedly killed an Israeli in a run-over attack in al-Quds. Israeli media have reported several retaliatory attacks by Palestinians in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem al-Quds. A total lock-down is now in place, closing all roads leading to al-Quds. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for an emergency cabinet session to discuss the situation. Over 30 Palestinians and several Israelis have been killed in an ongoing spate of violence that started in early October.

TheRebel.media's Middle East correspondent Igal Hecht talks to Itamar Marcus, Director of Palestinian Media Watch.
He offers shocking examples of Palestinian Arabic-language children's television programming, which encourages children to be martyrs, and kill Jews and non-Muslims.
In one clip, children sing, "Oh explosive device of glory, with her blood she created freedom."
A little boy in fatigues says he wants to be an engineer "so he can blow up the Jews." The Koranic message that Jews are "monkeys and pigs" is frequently broadcast.
Of course, this brainwashing also takes place beyond the TV screen: In one remarkable clip, a bystander berates an imam for trying to indoctrinate some children on the street.

wn.com/Palestinian Children's Tv Teaches Terrorism, Anti Semitism

5. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Yasser Arafat, Leader Palestinian Authority
"It is hard for me. You know it is very sad -- my daughter hardly knows me. Her mother always shows her my pictures on TV. But it does not matter. I am not the important one here. The important element is the Palestinian people."

"This is not home arrest, this is just to indicate to Arafat that he's got to get busy, very soon, in fighting terrorists, in getting control of the situation. He can't go wandering around the area and making declarations. Now is the time, the moment of truth where he has to make a decision. And that decision he has to make not just for us, but for his own people, because I think this is the moment where the leadership of the Palestinian people must decide: are they going to go to the road that we started together, which is face-to-face negotiation and a peaceful resolution of the conflict, or do they want to continue with the violence and the terrorism and excitement? And of course we know where that leads, it leads nowhere."

STORYLINE:
The cordon around the headquarters of Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat tightened on Friday afternoon as Israeli troops were reinforced by heavily armed tanks.
The tanks rumbled up to within 30 metres (yards) of Arafat's headquarters building in the West Bank town of Ramallah, and were seen as Israel's sternest warning yet that Arafat's failure to rein in militant extremists could soon mean the end of his rule.
Arafat has been under virtual house arrest within his Ramallah compound for more than a month.
Israeli officials denied that there was any offical order to contain Arafat, but they said he will only be allowed to travel freely again once he arrests the assassins of an Israeli Cabinet minister and those who ordered the killing.
Speaking from his beseiged office on Thursday, Arafat said his fate was not the important issue since all the Palestinian people were under seige.
As darkness fell on Friday evening, about 400 Palestinians angry with Arafat marched in protest to the gates of his headquarters and demanded that he release suspected Palestinian militants, including senior PLO official Ahmed Saadat, who were arrested by the Palestinian Authority for killing Israeli Tourism Minister Rehavam Zeevi in October.
When Palestinian Authority police arrived to try and calm the situation protesters vented their anger, shouting: "What's wrong with you, PA (Palestinian Authority)? We brought you to protect us, and now you are arresting us. PA where is your national pride?"
As the demonstration gained momentum a large group tried to storm the building but were forced back by Palestinian police.

"Ehud Olmert, it looks like he is going to be the next Prime Minister of Israel, I think he is meeting the President today and he is going to form the next government of Israel. Is that good news or bad news for Palestinians, what is your view about Olmert taking over?"
3. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ismail Haniyeh, Palestinian Prime Minister:
"We are not talking about the good or bad news. The good news for us would be to have an Israeli government that possesses the courage to recognise our rights and to end the suffering that we have been facing for many long years. The whole issue is about the programme of this government, how will it deal with the legal rights of the Palestinian people, what measures will they take to reduce our suffering and not to implement any plans that will draw the final borders of the Palestinian state in any limited area of the West Bank. Adding Jerusalem, the Jordan valley, building the wall and expanding settlements - all of this means the Palestinian people cannot be happy."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Gutkin, AP Bureau Chief in Jerusalem:
Question:
"Given the fact that there is so much to gain if Hamas would recognise Israel - the sea port, the airport, the safe passage (between West Bank and Gaza), the open borders, the exports, the world financial aid, so much to gain, why not just do it - just be pragmatic and recognise Israel?"
6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ismail Haniyeh, Palestinian Prime Minister:
"The issue of the airport, the harbour and the road between the West Bank and Gaza, all these issues are considered as completed as part of the signed agreements with the Palestinian Authority and the PLO, and we were supposed to have had an airport and harbour a long time ago. The airport should be operational by now. Millions of dollars were spent on it and it''s ideal. This is one of the reasons for the suffering of the Palestinian people - they can''t travel abroad. Also, cutting the connection between the West Bank and Gaza strip is a continuation of this suffering. Moreover, the Palestinian government can''t even sit together, and today they detained a minister in the Palestinian government, the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs. Therefore we have a problem and this problem comes from Israel, from the other side. We need (Israelis) to recognise the Palestinian rights and recognise the Palestinian people and their democratic choices."
STORYLINE:
The new Palestinian prime minister said on Thursday that the new Israeli government needed to recognise rights of the Palestinian people.
"The good news for us would be to have an Israeli government that possesses the courage to recognise our rights and to end the suffering that we have been facing for many long years," Ismail Haniyeh said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Hamas'' first Cabinet meeting was held last week via videoconference, with simultaneous sessions taking place in Gaza and the West Bank.
Israel doesn''t permit Hamas ministers to travel between the two territories through Israel. The Palestinian legislature also meets this way.
"The Palestinian government can''t even sit together, and today they (Israeli police) detained a minister, therefore we have a problem and this problem comes from Israel," said Haniyeh.
He was referring to the arrest earlier on Thursday by Israel of a member of the Hamas government.
Khaled Abu Arafa, Palestinian Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, was detained along with his bodyguard when he was on his way to Izzariya, a West Bank suburb of Jerusalem.

Igal Hecht of TheRebel.Media interviews Bassem Eid, one of the top Palestinian human rights advocates.
Bassem began his career with Israeli organization, B’Tselem, documenting offenses committed by the Israeli army but in 1996, he resigned in order to create a Palestinian organization that would focus on the Palestinian Authority when he saw how little trust the Palestinians had in their own leadership.
He provides many examples for why that is and says that despite billions in international aid sent to over the past 20 years, the Palestinian people have little to show for it.
He also offers his unique perspective on what all those involved, including Israel, should do.

A Palestinian teenager was killed on Monday (October 5) in a clash with Israeli soldiers near the West Bank town of Bethlehem, a Palestinian hospital source said.
Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Jerusalem has intensified in the past few weeks and the teenager's reported death was the latest in a series of incidents that has raised fears of wider escalation.
A Bethlehem hospital said a 13-year-old boy identified as Abdel-Rahman Abeidallah of the nearby al-Aidah refugee camp died of a bullet wound to the heart.
The Israeli military had no initial information and a spokeswoman said she was checking for details.
Recent bloodshed has included a drive-by shooting that killed an Israeli couple in the West Bank on Thursday and an arson attack that killed a Palestinian toddler and his parents in July.
Other incidents involving Palestinian stone-throwers and Israeli security forces continued without respite on Monday.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met security chiefs to discuss more action to tackle the rising violence in East Jerusalem, which includes the walled Old City, and the West Bank, areas that Israel captured in a 1967 war.
In broadcast remarks, Netanyahu said the new measures would include speeding up the razing of homes of Palestinian attackers and banning those who incite violence from Jerusalem's Old City.
Tensions have been inflamed in particular by frequent clashes between Palestinian stone-throwers and Israeli security forces at Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque compound.
Palestinians have said they fear increasing visits by Jewish groups to al-Aqsa, revered by Jews as the site of biblical temples, are eroding Muslim religious control there.
Israeli-Palestinian peace talks collapsed in April 2014.

Fresh clashes have erupted between Israeli police and Palestinians in east Jerusalem.
The unrest came just hours after two stabbing attacks left two Israelis dead and three wounded.
Both attackers were shot dead by police. One of them was from the east Jerusalem neighbourhood of Issawiya.
A masked man in the area said that people do not feel represented by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.
“He’s a ‘collaborator’” the man said.
“He’s working together with Israel and has prevented the beginning of the 3rd Intifada.”
Another man said that protests have been caused by Israel intrusions at the al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem.
Also, he said, by “aggression perpetrated by occupation forces against Palestinians.”
Israeli police have barred Palestinians from
visiting Jerusalem’s Old City in the wake of the violence.
Those who live, work and study in the area still have access, along with Israelis and tourists.
The latest bloodshed, which also includes a drive-by shooting in the West Bank that killed an Israeli couple, has triggered concerns of wider escalation – especially in the absence of peace talks that collapsed in 2014.

JERUSALEM — Under heavy domestic pressure from critics on the right and the left, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel threatened on Sunday to wage a “harsh offensive against Palestinian Islamic terrorism” as he returned to a country battered by a wave of deadly violence.
“We are in an all-out war against terrorism and we will wage it aggressively,” Mr. Netanyahu wrote in a Facebook post as he was on his way back from New York, where he spoke last week at the United Nations. He headed straight from the airport to a meeting with his top security officials.
In a brief televised statement after the meeting, he announced a series of measures, including the “speeding up of the process for the demolition of the homes of terrorists.”
But returning to a country in a grim mood on the eve of a Jewish holiday that was meant to bring a festive end to the High Holy Days, Mr. Netanyahu faced a predicament. As Israelis debated whether the recent string of attacks by Palestinians, which appeared to lack any orchestrating group, amounted to a third intifada, or uprising, Israeli political analysts said that he would have to calibrate his response so it would be effective but not spur further escalation.

“A very harsh response can get out of hand,” said Shlomo Avineri, a professor of political science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Mr. Netanyahu, who was elected to a third consecutive term this year, has built his career on a reputation for countering terrorism. “The rhetoric was always great,” Mr. Avineri said. “The question is how to translate it.”
Mr. Netanyahu and others in his rightist government have accused President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority he leads of inciting violence and giving tacit support to terrorism, not least by failing to promptly condemn the gun and knife attacks that have claimed the lives of four Israelis in the West Bank and the Old City of Jerusalem over the last few days.
Violence struck again around 4 a.m. on Sunday when a Palestinian man from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya stabbed and wounded a 15-year-old Jewish boy on a road outside the Old City, according to the police. The man, identified as Fadi Alon, 21, was fatally shot by police officers, the third Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in less than two weeks.
A video clip showed Mr. Alon being shot, apparently as he was trying to flee, with Israeli civilians in pursuit and shouting “Shoot him!” as the police arrived.
In a rare crackdown, the Israeli authorities took the unusual measure of barring most of Jerusalem’s Palestinian residents from entering the Old City for two days. Only Israeli citizens, tourists and Palestinians who hold Israeli citizenship or live, work or study in the Old City were given access, along with Palestinians going to worship at Al-Aqsa Mosque. But men under 50 were temporarily banned from praying there.
The latest violence comes after weeks of escalating tensions and confrontations around the contested Old City compound that houses Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. Palestinian leaders, including Mr. Abbas, have accused Israel of plotting to divide the site, revered by Jews as the Temple Mount and by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.

The Israeli parliament has passed a new law legalising the force-feeding of prisoners on hunger strikes.
For Palestinians in Israeli jails, hunger strikes are a strong mode of protesting detention and occupation.
The United Nations, the Palestinian Prisoners Commission and the Israeli Medical Association have all condemned the new law. The country's medical association are urging doctors to not partake in force-feeding, saying it is effectively torture and violates medical ethics.
But Israel has said that Palestinian hunger strikes could lead to deaths and set off protests across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
It is a move that highlights the treatment of Palestinian prisoners and how those defending them face difficult odds.
One of these defenders is lawyer Lea Tsemel, who has had a career spanning more than four decades and is a rarity in Israel - almost all her clients have been exclusively Palestinian.

On March 9, 2014, Sha'i ben-Tekoa, DeProgram Program, gave a terrific and important presentation to Children of Holocaust Survivors on his book on the invention of a Palestinian people. There is hardly a person born after 1980 (or earlier) who has any reason to believe that a Palestinian people did not exist in a country called Palestine. That is our fault for enforcing this narrative propaganda that has been the focus of the international community and the cause of the problems and danger faced by Israel. The narrative must be changed and Sha'i ben-Tekoa gives us the tools to do this. All we have to do is - DO IT!
Hired for a special project by the Office of Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, Sha'i ben-Tekoa discovered the first United Nations document using the term "Palestinians" as it is used today.
And the date was eye-opening: three years after 1967's Six-Day War. In his research into the entire UN archive dealing with the Arab war against Israel, he came across no reference to the putatively Paleolithic Palestinian people before 1970.
After completing his assignment for the Government of Israel, Mr. Ben-Tekoa dug deeper into the origins of this heretofore unheard of nationality. The Land of Israel is arguably the most written about real estate in the world over thousands of years in the scores of languages of Crusaders, conquerors, pilgrims and tourists, not one of whom ever wrote or said a word about meeting any "Palestinians" in their time in the Holy Land.
And now Ben-Tekoa has written a book about what he discovered and uncovered: the invention of a phantom nation, the "Palestinian Narrative," one of the great feats of psychological warfare in the history of Mankind. He shows how it is this generation's successor ideology to Medieval Christianity, Islam, Nazism and Communism as the current fashion in Jew-hatred a.k.a. an anti-Semitism as old as the hills. To purchase the book now, click on this link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0991094913/?tag=chilofjewih00-20
Sha'i ben-Tekoa was born, raised and educated in the United States. He received a B.A. in Comparative Religion from Columbia University and did graduate work in same at the University of Chicago Divinity School. A traveler in Arab lands, he served in the Yom Kippur War effort of 1973. His articles on the Arab-Israeli conflict, terrorism and Islamic fundamentalism have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, National Review, Midstream, Congress Monthly and other publications. He appeared on American Public Broadcasting's The MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour. In preparation for 1991's historic Arab-Israeli peace conference in Madrid, he worked on assignment for the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Shamir. A new political movement of young, second generation Israeli settlers are striving for new relations with their Palestinian neighbours. They are not only in favour of a Palestinian State; they even want to live in it.
Some settlers do not see themselves as an obstacle for peace. On the contrary - they see their presence as a way to build new relationships with Palestinians. They argue that the Settler issue has the easiest of solutions. Why couldn't they continue to live within a Palestinian state? Nachum Pachenik is a settler from the illegal settlement of Sde Boaz and a co-founder of the Land of Peace movement. "For me it's not about keeping the land... it's about achieving real peace." Ziad Sabatin, a Palestinian member of 'Land of Peace' specifically wants to get in touch with settlers because they are the very enemy with whom peace has to be made. "I have come to the conclusion that terror leads only to more terror. If you get to know each other, the fear disappears". Despite the willingness of both sides, making peace in occupied territories is still a potentially dangerous business. "There are people who have very different visions about the future", says Jewish settler Assaf Harel.

Over the last month, at least 27 Palestinians and 8 Israelis have been killed in a spate of violence across the Palestinian territories and Israel.
The Israeli government has adopted a number of tough measures against Palestinian attacks.
The violence, that started with Palestinian anger over Israel's actions at Al Aqsa Mosque Compound, comes at a time when prospects for a political settlement have almost completely faded.
So, is a new uprising on the way? And how will Israeli and the Palestinian authorities respond to it?
Presenter: Folly Bah Thibault
Guests:
Aitemad Muhanna-Matar - Research Fellow at the London School of Economics Middle East Centre.
Menachem Klein - Professor of Political Science at Bar-Ilan University.
