List of sovereign states and dependent territories in Europe
The list below includes all entities falling even partially under any of the various common definitions of Europe, geographical or political. Fifty six sovereign states, six of which have limited recognition, are listed with territory in Europe and/or membership in international European organisations. There are eight areas that are not integral parts of a European state or have special political status.
Definition of Europe as a continent
Under the commonly used geographic definition, the border between Asia and Europe stretches along the Ural Mountains,Ural River, and Caspian Sea in the east, the Greater Caucasus range and the Black Sea, with its outlets, the Bosporus and Dardanelles, in the south. Based on that division, transcontinental states Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkey have territory both in Europe and Asia.
The island of Cyprus in West Asia is proximate to Anatolia (or Asia Minor) and is on the Anatolian Plate but is often considered part of Europe as a current member of the European Union (EU). Armenia is entirely in West Asia also but is a member of certain European organisations. Sometimes Israel is considered as part of geopolitical Europe as well.

Aircraft camouflage
Aircraft camouflage is the use of camouflage, typically in the form of light and color patterns, applied to military aircraft to make them more difficult to see on the ground, in the air, or to make their speed, distance or attitude harder to determine. Military camouflage is highly dependent upon environmental conditions and is primarily effective against human observers, though some electronic visual acquisition systems can also be confused. It does not hinder radar location or heat-seeking electronics although the paints used may contain substances that can.
Camouflage colours and patterns are subject to considerable experimentation and theorizing, and most countries have explicit specifications as to their application that are sufficiently unique to make it possible to determine the intended operator in many cases even when no national insignia is visible. The colours and patterns have changed over time, both as new theories were tried, and as operational requirements changed. During and after World War II, the Yehudi lights project explored counter-illumination camouflage using lamps to increase the brightness of the aircraft to match the background. Recent experiments have looked at the use of light-emitting active camouflage systems which allow the colours and patterns to be changed to match the background.

Mail (armour)
Mail (chain mail,chainmaille) is a type of armour consisting of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. A coat of this armour is often referred to as a hauberk.
History
The earliest example of mail was found in a Dacian chieftain's burial located in Ciumești, Romania. Its invention is commonly credited to the Celts, but there are examples of Etruscan pattern mail dating from at least the 4th century BC. Mail may have been inspired by the much earlier scale armour. Mail spread to North Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, India, Tibet, South East Asia, and Japan.
Mail continues to be used in the 21st century as a component of stab-resistant body armour, cut-resistant gloves for butchers and woodworkers, shark-resistant wetsuits for defense against shark bites, and a number of other applications.
Etymology
The origins of the word “mail” are not fully known. One theory is that it originally derives from the Latin word macula, meaning "spot" or “opacity” (as in macula of retina). Another theory relates the word to the old French “maillier”, meaning “to hammer” (related to the modern English word “malleable”). In modern French "maille" refers to a loop or stitch.

Think (About It)
"Think (About It)" is a funk song recorded by Lyn Collins and released as a single on James Brown's People Records in 1972. The recording was produced by Brown (who also wrote the song) and features instrumental backing from his band The J.B.'s. It was the title track of Collins' 1972 debut album.
Sampling
Along with "Funky Drummer" and "Funky President," "Think (About It)" is one of the most frequently sampled James Brown productions, having been used on tracks by dozens of hip hop and dance music artists. The song appeared on the 16th volume of the Ultimate Breaks and Beats compilation series in 1986, shortly before the release of the E-mu SP-1200 sampler in 1987. This resulted in "Think" being sampled heavily in the ensuing years. Both the song's main rhythmic groove and a vocal passage known as the Yeah! Woo! break have been used as samples.
Perhaps the first song to sample "Think" was "Go On Girl" by Roxanne Shante in 1987 (produced by Marley Marl) followed by "My Groove Gets Better" from her album "Bad Sister." A few months later, the same 4-bar loop of "Yeah! Woo!" appeared as the basis for Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's "It Takes Two."

The following is a list providing an overview of sovereign states around the world, with information on their status and recognition of their sovereignty.
The 206 listed states can be divided into three categories based on membership within the United Nations System: 193 member states,[1] two observer states and 11 other states. The sovereignty dispute column indicates states having undisputed sovereignty (190 states) and states having disputed sovereignty (16 states, of which there are six member states, one observer state and nine other states).
Compiling a list such as this can be a difficult and controversial process, as there is no definition that is binding on all the members of the community of nations concerning the criteria for statehood. For more information on the criteria used to determine the contents of this list, please see the criteria for inclusion section below. The list is intended to include entities that have been recognised as having de facto status as sovereign states, and inclusion should not be seen as an endorsement of any specific claim to statehood in legal terms.

Armenia – Republic of Armenia UN member state Not recognised by Pakistan. Armenia is not recognised by Pakistan due to the dispute over Artsakh.[5][6][7]

The following is a list providing an overview of sovereign states around the world, with information on their status and recognition of their sovereignty.

The earliest known primary states appeared in Mesopatamia ca. 3700 B.C., in Egypt ca. 3300 B.C., in the Indus Valley ca. 2500 B.C., India ca 1700 B. C.,and in China ca. 1600 B.C. As they interacted with their less developed neighbors through trade, warfare, migration, and more generalized ideological influences, the primary states directly or indirectly fostered the emergence of secondary states in surrounding areas, for example, the Hittites in Anatolia, the Minoan and Mycenaean states of the Aegean, or the Nubian kingdoms in the Sudan. According to Professor Gil Stein of the University of Chicago Oriental Institute, 'The excavations and archaeological surveys of the last few decades have vastly increased both the quantity and quality of what we know about ancient states and urbanism. Archaeologists have broadened the scope of their research beyond the traditional focus on rulers and urban elites. Current research now aims at understanding the role of urban commoners, craft specialists, and village-based farmers in the overall organization of ancient states and societies. Given the immense geographical scope encompassed by the term 'the Ancient World''. The notion of a sovereign state arises in the 16th century with the development of modern diplomacy.For earlier times, the term 'sovereign state' is an anachronism. What corresponded to sovereign states in the medieval and ancient period were monarchs ruling By the Grace of God, de facto feudal or imperial autocrats, or de facto independent nations or tribal confederations. Musk’s incendiary interventions are a growing concern for governments in Europe. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that he is staying “cool” despite critical personal comments made by Musk but expressed concern about the U.S. billionaire’s involvement in Germany’s election by endorsing the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday condemned the “lies and misinformation” that he said are undermining U.K. democracy in response to a barrage of attacks on his government from Elon Musk.
Recently, Musk has posted about a child sexual abuse case, particularly a series of incidents in northern England towns where groups of men, largely from Pakistani backgrounds, were tried for grooming and abusing dozens of girls. These cases have been used by far-right activists to link child abuse to immigration and accuse politicians of covering up the “grooming gangs” out of fear of appearing racist.
Musk has called for a new public inquiry into cases of child abuse in northern Britain, accusing Starmer of failing to bring perpetrators to justice when he served as England’s director of public prosecutions between 2008 and 2013. Starmer defended his record, stating that he had reopened closed cases and “changed the whole prosecution approach” to child sexual exploitation.
Elon Musk has also advocated for the release of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, a far-right activist known as Tommy Robinson, who is currently serving a prison sentence for contempt of court. Starmer criticized this, saying, “People cheerleading Tommy Robinson are trying to get some vicarious thrill from the street violence that figures like Tommy Robinson promote.”
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron framed Musk’s influence as a challenge to Europe’s democratic values, emphasizing the need for European unity and resilience against external disruptions.
Without naming Musk directly, Macron referred to his alleged support for Germany’s far-right AfD party and his increasing interference in European elections. “Who could have imagined, 10 years ago, that the owner of one of the world’s largest social networks would intervene directly in elections, including in Germany?” Macron said. He warned of the risks posed by unchecked power in the hands of tech billionaires and the destabilizing impact they could have on democratic institutions.

It lists 49 generally recognized sovereign states (all of which are members of the United Nations), two states with substantial, but not general, international recognition (of which one is a UN observer state), four largely unrecognized de-facto states, and six dependent territories and other territories.
The 49 generally recognized sovereign states listed herein include two countries that generally are classified as European or African nations but with portions of their territory being in Asia. While most of Russia's area is in Asia, it generally is classified as a European country because its capital (Moscow) and most of its population is in Europe. In addition, while Egypt extends into Asia through the Sinai Peninsula, it generally is considered an African country because most of its population and geographic area is in Africa.

Malta and parts of France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain are located on the African continental plate, some considerably closer to the African than European mainland, but politically are generally considered European by convention. Similarly, the island of Socotra is also on the African plate and much closer to Africa, but is politically part of the Asian state of Yemen. The following is a list providing an overview of sovereign states around the world, with information on their status and recognition of their sovereignty.
The 206 listed states can be divided into three categories based on membership within the United Nations System: 193 member states,[1] two observer states and 11 other states. The sovereignty dispute column indicates states having undisputed sovereignty (190 states) and states having disputed sovereignty (16 states, of which there are six member states, one observer state and nine other states).
Compiling a list such as this can be a difficult and controversial process, as there is no definition that is binding on all the members of the community of nations concerning the criteria for statehood. For more information on the criteria used to determine the contents of this list, please see the criteria for inclusion section below. The development of stateslarge-scale, populous, politically centralized, and socially stratified polities/societies governed by powerful rulersmarks one of the major milestones in the evolution of human societies. Archaeologists often distinguish between primary states and secondary states. Primary states evolved independently through largely internal developmental processes rather than through the influence of any other pre-existing state. The earliest known primary states appeared in Mesopatamia ca. 3700 B.C., in Egypt ca. 3300 B.C., in the Indus Valley ca. 2500 B.C., India ca 1700 B. C.,and in China ca. 1600 B.C. As they interacted with their less developed neighbors through trade, warfare, migration, and more generalized ideological influences, the primary states directly or indirectly fostered the emergence of secondary states in surrounding areas, for example, the Hittites in Anatolia, the Minoan and Mycenaean states of the Aegean, or the Nubian kingdoms in the Sudan. According to Professor Gil Stein of the University of Chicago Oriental Institute, 'The excavations and archaeological surveys of the last few decades have vastly increased both the quantity and quality of what we know about ancient states and urbanism. Archaeologists have broadened the scope of their research beyond the traditional focus on rulers and urban elites. Current research now aims at understanding the role of urban commoners, craft specialists, and village-based farmers in the overall organization of ancient states and societies. List of sovereign states and dependent territories in Europe
The list below includes all entities falling even partially under any of the various common definitions of Europe, geographical or political. Fifty six sovereign states, six of which have limited recognition, are listed with territory in Europe and/or membership in international European organisations. There are eight areas that are not integral parts of a European state or have special political status.
Definition of Europe as a continent
Under the commonly used geographic definition, the border between Asia and Europe stretches along the Ural Mountains,Ural River, and Caspian Sea in the east, the Greater Caucasus range and the Black Sea, with its outlets, the Bosporus and Dardanelles, in the south. Based on that division, transcontinental states Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkey have territory both in Europe and Asia.
The island of Cyprus in West Asia is proximate to Anatolia (or Asia Minor) and is on the Anatolian Plate but is often considered part of Europe as a current member of the European Union (EU). Armenia is entirely in West Asia also but is a member of certain European organisations. Sometimes Israel is considered as part of geopolitical Europe as well.

Germany and France have also warned Donald Trump against threatening Greenland.
On Tuesday, Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, saying that the Arctic island was "critical" for national and economic security.

Musk’s incendiary interventions are a growing concern for governments in Europe. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that he is staying “cool” despite critical personal comments made by Musk but expressed concern about the U.S. billionaire’s involvement in Germany’s election by endorsing the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday condemned the “lies and misinformation” that he said are undermining U.K. democracy in response to a barrage of attacks on his government from Elon Musk.
Recently, Musk has posted about a child sexual abuse case, particularly a series of incidents in northern England towns where groups of men, largely from Pakistani backgrounds, were tried for grooming and abusing dozens of girls. These cases have been used by far-right activists to link child abuse to immigration and accuse politicians of covering up the “grooming gangs” out of fear of appearing racist.
Musk has called for a new public inquiry into cases of child abuse in northern Britain, accusing Starmer of failing to bring perpetrators to justice when he served as England’s director of public prosecutions between 2008 and 2013. Starmer defended his record, stating that he had reopened closed cases and “changed the whole prosecution approach” to child sexual exploitation.
Elon Musk has also advocated for the release of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, a far-right activist known as Tommy Robinson, who is currently serving a prison sentence for contempt of court. Starmer criticized this, saying, “People cheerleading Tommy Robinson are trying to get some vicarious thrill from the street violence that figures like Tommy Robinson promote.”
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron framed Musk’s influence as a challenge to Europe’s democratic values, emphasizing the need for European unity and resilience against external disruptions.
Without naming Musk directly, Macron referred to his alleged support for Germany’s far-right AfD party and his increasing interference in European elections. “Who could have imagined, 10 years ago, that the owner of one of the world’s largest social networks would intervene directly in elections, including in Germany?” Macron said. He warned of the risks posed by unchecked power in the hands of tech billionaires and the destabilizing impact they could have on democratic institutions.
