In northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the improved natural habitats have attracted more wild animals from neighboring Russia.
Last year, a Siberian tiger from Russia crossed into the Chinese border and the guest was believed to have spent the entire winter there. Asian black bears, also known as the white-chested bears, have also been spotted crossing the border river to China this fall. A bear cub even paid a visit to a nearby county.

The "Asian black bear" is also known as "moon bear" and "white-chested bear". It is a medium-sized bear species and largely adapted to arboreal life. It is found in the Himalayas, in the northern parts of the Indian Subcontinent, Korea, northeastern China, the Russian far east, the Honshū and Shikoku islands of Japan, and Taiwan. It is classified as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN, mostly because of deforestation and hunting for its body parts.
The species is morphologically very similar to some prehistoric bears, and is thought by some scientists to be the ancestor of other extant bear species . Though largely herbivorous, Asian black bears can be very aggressive toward humans, who frequently trap or kill them for traditional medicine. The species was described by Rudyard Kipling as "the most bizarre of the ursine species".
Asian black bears are black and have a light brown muzzle. They are white on the chin, and have a distinct white patch on the chest, which sometimes has the shape of a V. Their ears are bell shaped, proportionately longer than those of other bears, and stick out sideways from the head. The tail is 11 cm long.
Adults measure 70 – at the shoulder, and 120 – in length. Adult males weigh 60 – with an average weight of about 135 kg. Adult females weigh 40 –, and large ones up to 140 kg.
Asian black bears are similar in general appearance to brown bears, but are more lightly built and are more slender limbed. The lips and nose are larger and more mobile than those of brown bears. The skulls of Asian black bears are relatively small, but massive, particularly in the lower jaw. Adult males have skulls measuring 311.7 to 328 mm in length and 199.5–228 mm in width, while female skulls are 291.6–315 mm long and 163–173 mm wide. Compared to other bears of the genus "Ursus", the projections of the skull are weakly developed; the sagittal crest is low and short, even in old specimens, and does not exceed more than 19–20% of the total length of the skull, unlike in brown bears, which have sagittal crests comprising up to 41% of the skull's length.

Scientists have proposed that Asian black bears are either a surviving, albeit modified, form of Ursus etruscus, specifically the early, small variety of the middle Villafranchian or a larger form of Ursus minimus, an extinct species which arose four million years ago. With the exception of the age of the bones, it is often difficult to distinguish the remains of Ursus minimus with those of modern Asian black bears.

Asian black bears, also known as the white-chested bears, have also been spotted crossing the border river to China this fall. A bear cub even paid a visit to a nearby county.

The "Asian black bear" is also known as "moon bear" and "white-chested bear". It is a medium-sized bear species and largely adapted to arboreal life. It is found in the Himalayas, in the northern parts of the Indian Subcontinent, Korea, northeastern China, the Russian far east, the Honshū and Shikoku islands of Japan, and Taiwan. It is classified as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN, mostly because of deforestation and hunting for its body parts.
The species is morphologically very similar to some prehistoric bears, and is thought by some scientists to be the ancestor of other extant bear species . Though largely herbivorous, Asian black bears can be very aggressive toward humans, who frequently trap or kill them for traditional medicine. The species was described by Rudyard Kipling as "the most bizarre of the ursine species".
Asian black bears are black and have a light brown muzzle. They are white on the chin, and have a distinct white patch on the chest, which sometimes has the shape of a V. Their ears are bell shaped, proportionately longer than those of other bears, and stick out sideways from the head. The tail is 11 cm long.
Adults measure 70 – at the shoulder, and 120 – in length. Adult males weigh 60 – with an average weight of about 135 kg. Adult females weigh 40 –, and large ones up to 140 kg.
Asian black bears are similar in general appearance to brown bears, but are more lightly built and are more slender limbed. The lips and nose are larger and more mobile than those of brown bears. The skulls of Asian black bears are relatively small, but massive, particularly in the lower jaw. Adult males have skulls measuring 311.7 to 328 mm in length and 199.5–228 mm in width, while female skulls are 291.6–315 mm long and 163–173 mm wide. Compared to other bears of the genus "Ursus", the projections of the skull are weakly developed; the sagittal crest is low and short, even in old specimens, and does not exceed more than 19–20% of the total length of the skull, unlike in brown bears, which have sagittal crests comprising up to 41% of the skull's length.

放飼場内の木の皮が、簡単に剥がれることに気づいてしまったトモ。
次々剥がし始め、結局、ぐるっと一周。
最後は、大きく剥がれ、なんだか嬉しそうでした。
それからは、木の横で寝そべって、剥がした樹皮で戯れていました。
木の上部を見ると、葉が一枚も出ておらず、
恐らく枯れて...

Hello All, Today i am going to print a movable/jointed black bear! Enjoy!
The number of living Formosan black bear population is currently small, spotted in Taiwan Taiwan's Central Mountain Range is a unique subspecies of the Asian black bear, chest V-shaped markings are its characteristics.
I will create only black bears were glad to hear the story of a Formosan black bear.
Taipei Zoo has one called "mini three" female Formosan black bear. Because arrested beast clip to clip off the right front leg, leaving three feet so was named the "mini three." After this poor black bear lent Kaohsiung Shoushan Zoo, even in December 2013 by another black bear killed in Kaohsiung Shoushan Zoo. Kaohsiung Shoushan Zoo conceal this unfortunate news released until a month after the tragedy.The news made me very sad, so I designed only bears to commemorate this unfortunate incident.

Black bears are omnivores with their diets varying greatly depending on season and location. They typically live in largely forested areas, but do leave forests in search of food. Sometimes they become attracted to human communities because of the immediate availability of food. The American black bear is the world's most common bear species.
It is listed by the IUCN as "least concern", due to the species' widespread distribution and a large global population estimated to be twice that of all other bear species combined. Along with the brown bear, it is one of only two of the eight modern bear species not considered globally threatened with extinction by the IUCN. American black bears often mark trees using their teeth and claws as a form of communication with other bears, a behavior common to many species of bears.
Despite living in North America, American black bears are not closely related to brown bears and polar bears; genetic studies reveal that they split from a common ancestor 5.05 million years ago . Both American and Asian black bears are considered sister taxa, and are more closely related to each other than to other species of bear. Reportedly, the sun bear is also a relatively recent split from this lineage.
A small primitive bear called "Ursus abstrusus" is the oldest known North American fossil member of the genus "Ursus", dated to 4.95 mya. This suggests that "U. abstrusus" may be the direct ancestor of the American black bear, which evolved in North America. Although Wolverton and Lyman still consider "U. vitabilis" an "apparent precursor to modern black bears", it has also been placed within U. americanus.

Between these areas lies the temperate zone which shares many species with China and Korea. Japan also has many endemic species that are found nowhere else.
About 130 species of land mammal occur in Japan. The largest of these are the two bears. The Ussuri brown bear (Ursus arctos) is found in Hokkaidō where it plays an important role in the culture of the Ainu people. The Asian black bear (Ursus thibetanus) inhabits mountainous areas in Honshū, Kyūshū and Shikoku. Smaller carnivores include the red fox (Vulpes vulpes), raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) and Japanese marten (Martes melampus). There are two wild cats in Japan: the leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) of mainland Asia occurs on Tsushima Island while the Iriomote cat (Prionailurus iriomotensis) is unique to the island of Iriomote.
Grazing mammals include the sika deer (Cervus nippon), Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus) and wild boar (Sus scrofa). Among Japan's most famous mammals is the Japanese macaque (Macaca fuscata), the world's most northerly monkey.

It’s finally here — time for us to share our incredible Alaskan adventure with the world through Bears of the Last Frontier. It has been quite the journey. The film has been nearly two years in the making, and for both of us it has become an unforgettable part of our lives. Over the course of a year and a half we traveled well over 3000 miles across Alaska and shot 500 hours of footage for this epic three-hour PBS Nature series. We spent many, many months in bear country – piecing together the lives of these fascinating animals by observing and filming them, and by living in bear country, among the animals and people that share bear habitat.
When Joe and I met nearly ten years ago (coincidentally in Alaska) our minds reeled with the possibilities for collaboration. A filmmaker and an ecologist, and a combined dream to have a huge impact for wildlife conservation through the magic of film. The opportunity to work with PBS Nature has been a dream, and has resulted in three beautiful episodes we hope you’ll love.
We’ve both worked all over the world for the last twenty plus years — Joe as an award-winning wildlife filmmaker, and me as a conservation ecologist. Joe has created dazzling films on an array of epic subjects — from tigers to Asian elephants, and my work has focused on wildlife research and environmental education — mostly about the bears of the world. I’ve also guided hundreds of people on expeditions to see polar bears and grizzly bears. We’ve both witnessed the powerful emotions that these animals can trigger in people, which is why they make such great representatives for conservation, and such great characters in film!
Alaska harbors all three of North America’s bear species, from three hundred pound black bears to polar and brown bears weighing well over half a ton. It is home to the highest mountain on the continent, vast glaciers, immense forests, and a level of isolation that can be found nowhere else in the United States.
And it’s big. This northernmost state is the same size as the next three largest states combined (California, Texas and Montana).
Alaska’s wilderness allowed us to step back in time on a journey that took us through five major ecosystems and the habitats of its three bear species. It was also a journey that put us to the test as we hiked, camped and lived among the biggest bears in the world, chased black bears through the streets of Anchorage, followed grizzlies on the prowl for immense caribou herds, and searched for polar bears miles out on the pack ice. In every one of these locations bears have adapted impressively to their surroundings.
We’re hoping that, as you wander through this website and sink yourself into the series, you will feel immersed in the world of the bear. It is a truly wondrous place.
We also hope that you might be inspired to learn more. Bears represent wildness more than any other species, but we cannot take that wildness for granted — it will take determination, passion, and imagination to ensure that future generations can enjoy a world that includes bear habitat.

It’s finally here — time for us to share our incredible Alaskan adventure with the world through Bears of the Last Frontier. It has been quite the journey. The film has been nearly two years in the making, and for both of us it has become an unforgettable part of our lives. Over the course of a year and a half we traveled well over 3000 miles across Alaska and shot 500 hours of footage for this epic three-hour PBS Nature series. We spent many, many months in bear country – piecing together the lives of these fascinating animals by observing and filming them, and by living in bear country, among the animals and people that share bear habitat.
When Joe and I met nearly ten years ago (coincidentally in Alaska) our minds reeled with the possibilities for collaboration. A filmmaker and an ecologist, and a combined dream to have a huge impact for wildlife conservation through the magic of film. The opportunity to work with PBS Nature has been a dream, and has resulted in three beautiful episodes we hope you’ll love.
We’ve both worked all over the world for the last twenty plus years — Joe as an award-winning wildlife filmmaker, and me as a conservation ecologist. Joe has created dazzling films on an array of epic subjects — from tigers to Asian elephants, and my work has focused on wildlife research and environmental education — mostly about the bears of the world. I’ve also guided hundreds of people on expeditions to see polar bears and grizzly bears. We’ve both witnessed the powerful emotions that these animals can trigger in people, which is why they make such great representatives for conservation, and such great characters in film!
Alaska harbors all three of North America’s bear species, from three hundred pound black bears to polar and brown bears weighing well over half a ton. It is home to the highest mountain on the continent, vast glaciers, immense forests, and a level of isolation that can be found nowhere else in the United States.
And it’s big. This northernmost state is the same size as the next three largest states combined (California, Texas and Montana).
Alaska’s wilderness allowed us to step back in time on a journey that took us through five major ecosystems and the habitats of its three bear species. It was also a journey that put us to the test as we hiked, camped and lived among the biggest bears in the world, chased black bears through the streets of Anchorage, followed grizzlies on the prowl for immense caribou herds, and searched for polar bears miles out on the pack ice. In every one of these locations bears have adapted impressively to their surroundings.

My whole life I have gotten seriously close to many types of wild animals, and in this older VHS clip I was sitting on a picnic table as a boar bear came close as three feet to me, drawn in to my Buckshine attractant for just over a half hour.
My house cat Thomas, thought he also would brave it up by getting close to the bear at clip time 7:45.
However the bear was not to keen about sharing its space with a cat.
At the bottom of the log covered hole, I had poured my secret animal attractant formula that I now sell and call Buckshine. I had also poured it over the covering logs.
Watch as the bear ignores the cover corn and digs to the bottom after the Buckshine, or eats the Buckshine covered apples.
It kept this bear interested for the whole half hour, enough that Thomas even gave it another try to come close later in the clip.
Notice also how this bear keeps a close eye on me as I sat on a picnic tables top only a few feet away, unarmed.
I do not advise anyone to attempt getting close to a wild bear or any wild animal as I did here in this video.
I have studied bear and wild animals my entire life up close, even raised two bear from cubs and many other critters, but even with my vast experience of being able to read their body language, wild animals are unpredictable.
My cat had nearly caused an attack with its curiosity, and his second attempt was from under my very picnic table, which could have been a disaster.

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan considers himself British through and through. He grew up in Horsham, doesn't speak a word of Tamil, doesn't know any of his relatives, has no idea about his cultural heritage and has almost zero desire to go to Sri Lanka. Like thousands of other British children of immigrants, he knows very little about the land where his parents came from. As his mother Shanti says - he's a coconut. Sri Lankan on the outside but British on the inside.
Now Shanti wants her son to connect to his roots - so she has decided to change all that by sending Romesh on an odyssey around the motherland. Not that he's that happy about it.
Romesh is sent to receive a traditional blessing in Kegalle, only to discover after having his head rubbed with a chicken that it might actually have more in common with black magic than the traditional Hindu ceremony he thinks his mother had in mind. He goes to meet his Uncle Thiru, who may or may not be his uncle, and may or may not be related to him at all... in fact what Thiru seems more interested in is getting Romesh to invest in the elephant poo paper factory than in getting to know him. After attempting a potentially character building stint of stilt fishing, Romesh sets up an activity of his own.... Going rogue in the capital Colombo to perform with local rap act MBZ.

The brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a large bear distributed across much of northern Eurasia and North America. Adult bears generally weigh between 100 and 635 kg (220 and 1,400 lb). Its largest subspecies, the Kodiak bear, rivals the polar bear as the largest member of the bear family and as the largest land-based predator. The Ussuri brown bear also approaches the Kodiak brown bear in size. There are several recognized subspecies within the brown bear species. In North America, two types of the subspecies Ursus arctos horribilis are generally recognized—the coastal brown bear and the inland grizzly bear; these two types broadly define the range of sizes of all brown bear subspecies. An adult grizzly living inland in Yukon may weigh as little as 80 kg (180 lb), while an adult coastal brown bear in nearby coastal Alaska living on a steady, nutritious diet of spawning salmon may weigh as much as 680 kg (1,500 lb). The exact number of overall brown subspecies remains in debate.
While the brown bear's range has shrunk and it has faced local extinctions, it remains listed as a least concern species by the IUCN with a total population of approximately 200,000. As of 2012, this and the American black bear are the only bear species not classified as threatened by the IUCN. However, the Californian, North African (Atlas bear), and Mexican subspecies were hunted to extinction in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and many of the southern Asian subspecies are highly endangered. The smallest subspecies, the Himalayan brown bear, is critically endangered, occupying only 2% of its former range and threatened by uncontrolled poaching for its parts. The Marsican brown bear in central Italy is believed to have a population of just 30 to 40 bears.
The brown bear's principal range includes parts of Russia, India, China, Canada, the United States (mostly Alaska), Scandinavia and the Carpathian region (especially Romania), The brown bear is recognized as a national and state animal in several European countries. It is the most widely distributed of all bears.
