Punjab-based Balbir Singh is one such member of the Fauj, who has left his wife, Amrita, and son, Veer, behind. Ironically, Amrita is a follower of Mohandas Gandhi, and patiently awaits her husband's return home. Mohandas writes to Adolf, addressing him as 'dear friend', imploring him to end the violence. The allies, which include America, Russia, Britain and France close in on the Germans, while Adolf, a little perturbed by defectors, but still in company of many loyal supporters, is determined to continue, and even makes preparations to wed his mistress of 12 years, Eva Braun. Meanwhile Balbir and the rest of the Fauj must risk their lives through treacherous territory, allied soldiers, and quite surprisingly - they themselves - when they end up bickering and fighting with each other.

Plot: In April of 1945, Germany stands at the brink of defeat with the Soviet Armies closing in from the west and south. In Berlin, capital of the Third Reich, Adolf Hitler proclaims that Germany will still achieve victory and orders his Generals and advisers to fight to the last man. "Downfall" explores these final days of the Reich, where senior German leaders (such as Himmler and Goring) began defecting from their beloved Fuhrer, in an effort to save their own lives, while still others (Joseph Goebbels) pledge to die with Hitler. Hitler, himself, degenerates into a paranoid shell of a man, full of optimism one moment and suicidal depression the next. When the end finally does comes, and Hitler lies dead by his own hand, what is left of his military must find a way to end the killing that is the Battle of Berlin, and lay down their arms in surrender.

Quotes:
Adolf Hitler: In a war as such there are no civilians.
Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler: When I meet Eisenhower, should I give the Nazi salute, or shake his hand?
Adolf Hitler: The war is lost... But if you think that I'll leave Berlin for that, you are sadly mistaken. I'd prefer to put a bullet in my head.
[first lines]::Traudl Junge: I've got the feeling that I should be angry with this child, this young and oblivious girl. Or that I'm not allowed to forgive her for not seeing the nature of that monster. That she didn't realise what she was doing. And mostly because I've gone so obliviously. Because I wasn't a fanatic Nazi. I could have said in Berlin, "No, I'm not doing that. I don't want to go the Führer's headquarters." But I didn't do that. I was too curious. I didn't realise that fate would lead me somewhere I didn't want to be. But still, I find it hard to forgive myself.
[last lines]::Traudl Junge: All these horrors I've heard of during the Nurnberg process, these six million Jews, other thinking people or people of another race, who perished. That shocked me deeply. But I hadn't made the connection with my past. I assured myself with the thought of not being personally guilty. And that I didn't know anything about the enormous scale of it. But one day I walked by a memorial plate of Sophie Scholl in the Franz-Joseph-Strasse. I saw that she was about my age and she was executed in the same year I came to Hitler. And at that moment I actually realised that a young age isn't an excuse. And that it might have been possible to get to know things.
Walter Hewel: Why do you want to live on?::Prof. Dr. Ernst-Günter Schenck: And you? Why do you absolutely want to die?::Walter Hewel: You see this? [shows him a cyanide cap] The Führer personally gave it to me!::Prof. Dr. Ernst-Günter Schenck: [bitter] As last honor?::Walter Hewel: ...maybe.
Magda Goebbels: Sleep tight, children.
Adolf Hitler: General Von Greim, I appoint you supreme commander of the Luftwaffe. I hereby promote you to General-Fieldmarshall. A big responsibility rests on your shoulders. You have to rebuild the Luftwaffe from scratch. Many mistakes have been made. Be ruthless. Life doesn't forgive weakness. This so-called humanity is religious drivel. Compassion is an eternal sin. To feel compassion for the weak is a betrayal of nature. The strong can only triumph if the weak are exterminated. Being loyal to this law, I've never had compassion. I've always been ruthless when faced with internal opposition from other races. That's the only way to deal with it.
Albert Speer: You must be on stage when the curtain falls
Adolf Hitler: I always make mistakes when I'm dictating.

Is it ever right to do evil to accomplish the will of God?
I don't think so.
Gertraud Traudl Junge was the secretary for Adolf
Hitler during WWII. After the war, Traudl carried a lot
of remorse about her involvement with the Nazi Party.
Shortly before her death in 2002, she recorded her experiences
and regrets on a video interview entitled Blindspot.

Gertraud „Traudl“ Junge (* 16.

Junge remained in obscurity until her old age, when she decided to publish her memoirs, claiming ignorance of the Nazi atrocities during the war, but blaming herself for missing opportunities to investigate reports about them.
The movie DOWNFALL is based on her memoirs and is picturized mainly from her view point apart from the parallel events happening at that time outside the bunker.

A tolhurst production. This is not a parody but made for educational purposes. Traudl was secretary to Adolf Hitler 1943-45 and her eyewitness account of the last hours of the Third Reich in the Führerbunker in Berlin was one of the key pieces of background informing the film "Downfall" and hence all the parodies. In this interview, she talks about personal responsibility, mentioning specifically that she was born in the same year as Sophie Scholl who led "The White Rose" student anti-Nazi movement and who was executed in 1943 (the same year that Traudl went to work for Hitler) and that seeing this information inscribed on a memorial plaque in Munich made Traudl think about whether she could have done more to find reasons why she should not have worked for Hitler.
This is not a parody, but Traudl's real words complete with genuine, accurate English subtitles for educational purposes.

Throughout the interview, Traudl recounts her time with
the Nazi party, and especially her time with Adolf Hitler.
As she recounts this sad time, most of her memories come
across more like confession than anything else.
There was one thing in the interview that caught my
attention.
In the interview, Traudl mentions the emotional
effect on Hitler after the assassinate attempt on his
life by a bomb placed in a briefcase at a meeting with his
staff. Dietrich Bonhoefferwas was involved with earlier assassination attempts,
and it was this involvement that led him to give up
his earlier nonresistant stand.
Interestingly, Traudl recounts that after the assasination
bombing failed, Hitler was more convinced than ever
that God was protecting him and his mission. She says that
Hitler personally took Mussolini to the site of the bombing
and boasted of his deliverance with a triumphant
smile. Traudl laments that after the assassination attempt,
all hopes for peace was lost. Hitler was more than ever
convinced with his motto Gott Mit Uns (God with us),
and that it was his job to rid the world of evil.
What if you could kill Hitler? In only a few decades
after WWII, the question has become almost proverbial
in nonresistance debates. Here we see a perfect example
that when human means are used to accomplish a spiritual
end, the result is often devastating. Instead of ridding the
world of Hitler, the assassination attempt only emboldened
him. ~Dean Taylor

the end thereof are the ways of death. (Pr. 16:25)

Here's the scene that has become so virally popular on YouTube, in all its original glory. This entire movie is amazing, the acting superb, the history accurate. I consider it one of the best WWII movies ever made.
Army Detachment Steiner (Armeeabteilung Steiner), was a temporary military unit, something more than a corps but less than an army, created on paper by German dictator Adolf Hitler on 21 April 1945 during the Battle of Berlin, and placed under the command of SS Obergruppenführer Felix Steiner. Hitler hoped that the units assigned to Steiner would be able to stage an effective counter attack against the northern pincer of the Soviet assault on Berlin. In the event, Steiner realised that the forces under his command were inadequate, and refused to attack.

The following is an excerpt from an interview with Bruno Ganz appearing in The Guardian, regarding his role in the film and how he prepared himself for it:
"I had some doubts when I was first offered the part of Hitler in Downfall. I asked myself whether I really wanted to get involved in this ugly, terrible stuff. But it was also a temptation - the subject has a fascinating side - so I agreed.
I did four months of research. The producers sent me a tape, secretly recorded in Finland in 1942, with Hitler's natural voice - not the screaming orator we are used to, but a soft, attractive voice, a calm baritone. I tried to capture that.
I became convinced Hitler had Parkinson's disease: there is newsreel of him presenting medals to the Hitler Youth a few days before his death, and you can see his hand shaking, so I visited a hospital and observed Parkinson's sufferers.
There was no strategy in the film to say: "Let's show a new Hitler." I just wanted to show him as the evidence and the testimony of witnesses suggests. Witnesses say he was kind to dogs, charming to women, nice to children, but then he could just say: "Let's kill 5,000 people." In the film, when he and his generals are discussing military problems, one says to him: "What about the 100,000 young German officers on the eastern front? They are going to die." He says: "But they are born to die." He was completely pitiless.
What fascinated me was that he was not just supported by the German people; he was loved. The relationship between him and them was almost religious. There was also that Wagnerian undercurrent - the hero dressed in white, standing against a corrupt world. Look at the bunker - the way Goebbels's wife is willing to kill her children because she can't imagine life after national socialism. It is like a cult. So it helped me that I am Swiss, not German. I'm not saying that I couldn't have played the part if I had been German, but it was useful to be able to put my Swiss passport between my heart and Mr Hitler, so that he couldn't touch me.
Having played him, I cannot claim to understand Hitler. Even the witnesses who had been in the bunker with him were not really able to describe the essence of the man. He had no pity, no compassion, no understanding of what the victims of war suffered. Ultimately, I could not get to the heart of Hitler because there was none."

Traudl Junge was Adolf Hitler's private secretary, from Autumn 1942 until the collapse of the Nazi regime. She worked for him at the Wolfsschanze in Obersalzberg, on his private train and, finally, in his bunker in the besieged capital. It was Traudl Junge to whom Hitler dictated his final testament. In her first ever on-camera interview, 81-year-old Junge talks about her unique life. In the spring of 2001, Andre Heller succeeded in convincing Traudl Junge how valuable it is to record her unique memories. Fifty-six years after the end of the Second World War, an important eyewitness reveals her experiences to us. What she saw and heard turned her into an furious opponent of National Socialism; an opponent, moreover, who is still painfully aware and seems incapable of forgiving the young girl she once was--for her naivete, ignorance, and her liking for Hitler.
