27-29 Howard Street at Crosby Street, early 1970s. Margot Gayle, Cast-Iron Architecture in New York, Dover 1974
Crosby Street looking south toward Howard. Perhaps it’s the black and white photography but things looked considerably shabbier in the Super Seventies, in Soho, at least. Soho experienced a renaissance beginning with a trickle in the1980s and contuinuing in the 1990s as money poured in and the region became affluent. In this case, it makes your webmaster at least sanguine, because, following the1970 defeat of the Lower Manhattan Expressway (the LoMEX), which would have butchered Broome Street, the amazing cast-iron fronts that defined the neighborhood have been saved for good. Nothing is permanent but these rare and unique buildings will grace Soho and parts of Tribeca for decades and perhaps centuries to come.
27 (left) and 29 were built in 1868 and 1888 – 20 years apart. 29 was built by James Renwick Jr.’s form, Renwick & Sands.
It is interesting to note that architects of this period lavished originality and care on small commercial buildings as well as on large commissions. For example, the year after doing this building, Renwick & Sands won accolades for heir prestigious Second Empire style Booth Theater, 23rd Street and 6th Avenue. –Margot Gayle, Cast-Iron Architecture in New York [demolished in 1975].

NE corner Howard and Crosby Street; Putnam & Co., rolling ladders, 32 Howard Street
Crosby, too, is one of those NYC streets that gets somewhat overlooked, since it’s wedged between main N-S thoroughfares Broadway and Lafayette Street. It has had a checkered history that saw only one-half of it given landmark protection. In recent years, like the rest of Soho, it has become home to a number of high-end residences; homeowners here appreciate its relative quiet. At 126, its northern end near East Houston Street you will find the Housing Works Used Book Café, where all profits go a nonprofit offering housing, health care, job placement and other services for homeless suffering with HIV and AIDS.
howard-lafay1_ howard-lafay2_
Midblock street endings are relatively rare in NYC. Howard Street offers two such views at Mercer , where Howard begins, Crosby (seen above, where it ends at Howard) and here, where Howard meets its eastern end at Lafayette. The building see at left, with its pagoda-like decoration, extends all the way to Canal Street a block to the south, where it fronts.

Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple.
We try our best to cover all of the top attractions including fine arts, entertainment, festivals, dining, architecture and museums as well as focusing on lesser known off the beaten path attractions to cover all forms of tourism. If you only have time to visit only one city in the United States it ought to be NYC, USA:

Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. You can ride roller coasters, stroll down the boardwalk, enjoy some beach time, and then head over the Nathan's Famous hot dogs. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. Strawberry Fields is a section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Have you been to New York? What are your favorite things about this city? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

http://www.expedia.com/Brooklyn.d6056496.Destination-Travel-Guides
A visit to Brooklyn is a tour through the first settlement in New York. As you walk through its imposing brownstones and take in the spectacular views of New York City, you’ll see why over 2.5 million people call it home.
With all those residents, Brooklyn is the most densely populated of the five New York City boroughs. It’s also among the most beautiful; just stop by Brooklyn Bridge Park to see what we mean. You’ll find 85 acres of parkland framed by the New York City skyline and the famous Brooklyn Bridge—it’s the perfect place to take pictures. Over 4,000 pedestrians cross the Brooklyn Bridge to and from Manhattan each day—lots of them with cameras in hand.
Continue your Brooklyn sightseeing at Coney Island. Once the biggest theme park in the U.S., Coney Island is still full of classic attractions; visit Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, scream your way through the Cyclone roller coaster (maybe not in that order), and ride the carousel. Once you’ve had your fill of the rides and the food, you can slip down to the beach that runs alongside the boardwalk and relax until the sun goes down.
Have you crossed the Brooklyn Bridge? Tell us about it below!

This is a video tour/ guide to get to the world famous Manhattan cruise terminal.
Here we show you step by step and a detailed description showing driving directions, nearby hotels, transportation hubs & stream lined routes of access to ease the stress and hassle of traveling there.
Just one thing,
always get there early and on time to avoid long lines, delays and unforeseen contingencies from flight delays, storms, traffic jams, etc. Better to be early than be on the minute and the 11th hour, only do it if all fails.
Never get there late before embarkation ends in the afternoon otherwise you won't be allowed to come on the ship & the ship will depart without you.
Always have all travel documents with you, if you don't have em, forget them at home etc, they will tell you they can't let you on board.
(Guard them with your life.)
Follow these steps and you'll be just fine & remember have fun!
The Cruise terminal piers:
Pier 88 90 & 92 can host up to 4 major cruise ships, private mega yachts to even warships.
Getting to the terminal is simple by car, taxi, bicycle and even in walking distance.
Processing is point A to point B from check in / security screening to boarding and then off on your cruise vacation to the far blue yonder & beyond.

Travel video about destination Hawaii.
The Hawaiian Islands are located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and form the 50th state of the USA. In the south east of the island of O’Ahu, Honolulu is a modern town and the starting point for most journeys. It also contains the Iolani Palace - once the residence of King David Kalakana -a magnificent Victorian structure in the centre of Honolulu and the only royal palace in the United States. In Pearl Harbour, a museum commemorates the events of the seventh of December 1941 when most of the American Pacific fleet was destroyed by the Japanese. The valley of Nuuanu Pali is of great importance in Hawaiian history. It was here that a deciding battle took place, when King Kamehameh came from Maui and triumphantly drove the troops of the chief of Oahu into the mountains, the result of which formed the political union of the Hawaiian Islands. In winter, the world’s best surfers collect on Sunset Beach, attracted by spectacular waves, some of which reach as high as the tallest church steeples. On the island of Kaua’i, the Wailua is Hawaii’s only navigable river and it flows through some of the exciting locations which were used for Jurassic Park, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Blue Hawaii. Two volcanoes dominate the extraordinary island of Maui, which also features sandy beaches, green pastures, dense jungle and a bleak lunar-like landscape. On Waimea Beach in 1778, the English sea captain, James Cook, was the first European to set foot on Hawaiian territory. The Waimea Canyon was referred to by Mark Twain as ‘The Grand Canyon of the Pacific’, a massive gorge which has been carved out of the volcanic landscape by the Waimea River. From a Victorian style station there is the narrow-gauge Sugar Cane Train which travels through the once prolific sugar plantations of Kaanapali. Haleakale is the world’s largest dormant volcano with a crater as large as Manhattan. But nowhere else in the world can volcanoes be studied as safely as on Big Island in the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park The Hawaiian Islands…priceless pearls in the Pacific Ocean.

Travel video about destination New York in the United States of America.
New York is capital city of the American Dream, with its population drawn from each corner of the world. The Empire State Building is a symbol of the glamour and fascination of this frenetic city, yet the Chrysler building is just as imposing, its unusual tower being decorated with car motifs such as bonnets, hub caps and car wheels of the 1930‘s. Wall Street derived its name from a wall which had been erected to protect the emerging town from attack by Native American Indians and now most of the city is an open powerhouse of ceaseless activity with a constant mêlée of car horns, sirens, and screeching tyres.Greenwich Village is one of the few areas of the city that has no clearly-defined symmetry. Attractive steps grace many of its 19th century houses of red brick and brown sandstone and, until the 1960‘s, many important artists and authors lived there, such as Edgar Allen Poe and Henry James. Little Italy, Chinatown, The Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty, Broadway, Times Square…each has its own colourful stories to tell amid the fantastic man-made Manhattan glass horizons: the skyscrapers which shamelessly reach up to the heavens and exclaim that New York is most assuredly the commercial capital of the universe.

I revisited New York for a week (but I actually lived there for 9 years.. and I know this: gife in New York City revolves around three things: time, speed and efficiency. In fact a lot of Manhattanites live by daily mental check lists and feel like they never have enough time to everything they want and need to do. Today I'm going to share with you my top 5 travel tips for surviving the Big Bad Apple (aka New York City).
1. Bring comfortable and practical shoes. Now I know a lot of you have probably watched Sex & the City and the women in that TV show always wear high heels. That's because they were taking taxi cabs everywhere. Unless you're taking taxi cabs everywhere , be prepared to walk. A lot. you'll be walking up and down stairs, you'll be taking the metro and the bus all around and you'll be walking blocks and blocks and BLOCKS! Being from Hawaii I was practically born in flip-flops and when I moved to New York, I realized they just didn't work there.
2. Don't stop in the middle of a busy sidewalk or at the entry of a subway station. I like to think of busy New York sidewalks as kind of like the pedestrian version of the German Autobahne. If you're going to stop on the sidewalk or when you emerge from the subway station pull off to the side so other people can pass you by. Simple as that.
3. It is a well-known belief that New Yorkers happen to be very impatient, therefore, next tip is if you're waiting in a checkout line, have your wallet ready when you get to the cash register. The last thing you want to do is wait until you get to the very front, have the cash register ring you up your purchase, tell you what it is and then you... open your bag to look for your wallet. You might not make the cashier or the people behind you very happy. Remember, good customer is not a requirement in New York city. It's an option.
4. Now a lot of people think that New York City is an expensive place to live as well as to visit. That can't be furthest from the truth. The two things that tend to be expensive in New York City are rent and a hotel room. Outside of that you'll find that Manhattan actually has a lot of free activities, like concerts in Central Park, or Shakespeare in the park. You have street markets and street vendors who sell things at a very discounted rate. You don't need to rent a car, you can always take public transportation. In fact, you can buy daily, weekly and monthly unlmited metro passes. If you love to eat, there's always hole-in-the-wall restaurants with good food, for cheap! Also if you love shopping, New York doesn't have sale tax on clothes.
Now last, where to find toilets. New York isn't really known for having a whole lot of public toilets and if it did, I don't know if you'd actually really want to use them. People can be dirty. But if you really had to go and were looking for a spot to go in, then my best suggestion is: Mc Donald, Starbucks, public museums as well as the New York public libraries. some parks migh have them but I wouldn't count on them. One handy app I have is Sit n Squat. It's downloadable for free by Charmin and it will help you locate the nearest toilet whether paid or free on your phone.

Travel video about destination Madrid in Spain.
Madrid is Europe's most elevated metropolis, a royal capital of history, outstanding buildings and cultural treasures.
Most of Spain's royal palaces are in Madrid, the capital of Spain since the 17th century. Including the Royal Palace, that even today serves as a royal castle. The colossal building of grey granite and limestone owes its impressive appearance to its length of 500 metres and strategic elevated location.
On the southern side of the castle is Madrid's most recent cathedral, Almudena Cathedral. It boasts a combination of styles between New Gothic and Classical and was 200 years in construction.
Madrid also has a boulevard that has transformed it into a major metropolis, the Gran Via, that compares in both flair and dimensions with the exquisite streets of Paris and New York, with splendid noble buildings along with the contemporary.
What the Gran Via a hundred years ago, the Paseo De La Castellana achieved comparable renown at the end of the last millennium, a replica of Manhattan, the Zona Azca. A modern city district with spectacular skyscrapers and spacious streets where chrome, glass and concrete dominate the futuristic skyline.
The royal splendor of former times has managed to successfully combine with the contemporary and today, Madrid is no less flamboyant, a city of historic joie de vivre!

Times Square is a major commercial intersection[1] and a neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, at the junction of Broadway (now converted into a pedestrian plaza) and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. Brightly adorned with billboards and advertisements, Times Square – iconified as "The Crossroads of the World",[2][3][4][5][6] "The Center of the Universe",[7][8][9] and "The Great White Way"[10][11][12] – is the hub of the Broadway Theater District,[13] one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections,[14] and a major center of the world's entertainment industry.[15] Times Square is one of the world's most visited tourist attractions, hosting over 39 million visitors annually.[16] Approximately 330,000 people pass through Times Square daily, many of whom are either tourists or people working in the area.[17]
Formerly Longacre Square, Times Square was renamed in April 1904 after The New York Times moved its headquarters to the newly erected Times Building – now called One Times Square – site of the annual ball drop on New Year's Eve,[18] a tradition which began on December 31, 1907 and continues today, attracting thousands to the Square every New Year's.
The northern triangle of Times Square is technically Duffy Square, dedicated in 1937 to Chaplain Francis P. Duffy of New York City's "Fighting 69th" Infantry Regiment; a memorial to Duffy is located there, along with a statue of George M. Cohan, and the TKTS discount theatre tickets booth. The stepped red roof of the TKTS booth also provides seating for various events. The Duffy Statue and the square were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.[19]
