'Our Brand is Crisis,' 'Burnt' Bomb At the Box Office
LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Illustrating the limits of star power, "Our Brand is Crisis" and "Burnt" were both roundly rejected by audiences despite the presence of Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper. "Our Brand is Crisis," a political satire about a spin-doctor navigating a Latin American presidential election, is the worst wide release opening of Bullock's career, sliding in below 1996's "Two If

With just $15.5 million in opening-weekend box domestic office receipts against an estimated $150 million budget, Pan is the unofficial biggest bomb of 2015, recovering just 10.3% of its production cost in its home debut.
By comparison, Fantastic Four recovered 22% of its pricetag at home when it opened Aug. 7, taking $25.6

5 Biggest Box Office Flops Of Summer 2015
Subscribe Now! ► http://bit.ly/SubClevverMovies
We’re taking a look at five of the biggest box office flops of the summer right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Despite being one of the biggest summer’s ever, there were plenty of misfires and the biggest flop of the season may not be the one you think. Universal Pictures dominated the summer box office with hits like Jurassic World, Minions, Pitch Perfect 2 and Straight Outta Compton, but not every studio fared as well including Fox and Sony who partnered on writer/director Cameron Crowe’s latest, Aloha. It may have featured an all-star cast that included Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone and Bill Murray, but the Hawaii set romantic dramedy managed to only make $26 million worldwide on a budget of around $37 million. After marketing costs, the film is expected to lose around $65 million making it the fifth biggest flop of the summer. Not far behind is Sony’s Pixels starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage. The studio was hoping for a potential franchise, but instead they got a film that will likely lose them around $75 million thanks to a large marketing push that lead to a $186 million worldwide take on a budget of around $90 million. Taking the number three spot is Warner Brothers The Man from U.N.C.L.E. starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. Based on the classic 60’s series and directed by Guy Ritchie, the $75 million action film managed to only bring in around $40 million in the U.S. and $72 million worldwide. Though still in wide release, the film is expected to be an $80 million plus loss for the studio. Number two on the list is none other than Fox’s Fantastic Four. Panned by critics and moviegoers alike, the film was troubled from the start with reports of turmoil on the set and even director Josh Trank attempting to distance himself from the film right before release. With an estimated budget of around $125 million, Fantastic Four managed to only bring in around $150 million worldwide and will end up being a $100 million loss for the studio. A sequel is currently scheduled for 2017, but its prospects of happening seem highly unlikely. Fantastic Four may have been the most talked about flop of the summer, but the title of biggest bomb of the season goes to Disney’s Tomorrowland. The George Clooney starrer managed to bring in the most money of the five with around $208 million globally, but with an estimated budget of around $190 million and massive marketing costs, the film is expected to lose anywhere between $120 and $150 million for the studio. So there you have it, the five biggest flops of the summer. Are you surprised by any of the entries and is there a movie you think should have been a hit? 2014 gave us more than a few memorable titles and box office explosions, and we’re promised more before the year’s out (you’re going down Smaug).
according to budget and BO figures from boxofficemojo.com, these were the biggest flops of 2014.
Transcendence
BO : $100 million
Budget :$103 million
Still, it’s hard to not be interested in just who or what Johnny Depp will become for his next role. Unfortunately, Transcendence marks strike two for the actor — $103 million worldwide on a $100 million dollar budget — after 2013’s Lone Ranger bombed at least as badly.
The Expendables 3
BO : $39 million
Budget :$90 million
The Expendables 3 embodied its title a little too literally. It BOed a ton worldwide, but only $39 million domestically of its $90 million budget. This underwhelming result is likely in part due to the fact that the movie was leaked online before it’s cinematic release.
The Legend of Hercules
BO :
Budget :$70 million
Should The Legend of Hercules have been a good movie? Perhaps the question is: Should filmmakers rely on $70 million in battle sequences to make a movie worth seeing? Evidently not.
With only $18 million in domestic ticket sales and an aggregate rating of 3% on Rotten Tomatoes, this one stank with gusto.
I, Frankenstein
BO : $19 million
Budget :$65 million
Thanks to the foreign market it managed to barely scrape by its $65 million budget, to say nothing of marketing costs. It BOed a measly $19 million at home.
Sex Tape
BO : $126 million worldwide
Budget : $40 million
Neither terribly sexy nor funny, it failed to make back its $40 million budget domestically, though brought in $126 million worldwide.
Edge of Tomorrow
BO : $100 million
Budget :$178 million
We aren’t even sure if Cruise ever does jump out of any futuristic flying devices in Edge of Tomorrow, but it’s safe to say he blows something up. Despite great reviews, this one failed to contend the box office hype of Cruise’s former action epics. It BOed $100 million domestic on a budget of $178 million.
Dolphin Tale 2
BO : $42 million
Budget :$36 million
We doubt many parents regretted taking their kids to see Dolphin Tale 2; everyone else who saw it for inexplicable reasons was served a thoroughly mushy stew of heart-warming clichés. It made $42 million domestic on a $36 million budget.
Pompeii
BO : $23 million
Budget :$100 million
Paul W. S. Anderson’s Pompeii, foregoing historical substance and with special effects turned to 11, is a tacky hybrid of Hollywood blockbuster genres aspiring to no more than a guilty pleasure. Who woulda thunk a shell of sweaty gladiator battles, pandemonium sequences and cookie-cut romance would BO just $23 million domestic on a budget of $100 million?
Deliver Us From Evil
BO : $30,523,568
Budget :$30 million
Relying on a “true story” disclaimer with jolts, squeals, demonic womenfolk and all, Deliver Us From Evil was a derivative’s derivative in the horror genre. We looked on anticipating that something would make us jump, and then it did, and then we sighed. With cheap thrills short on originality, it barely BOed its $30 million budget.
Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return
BO : $26
Budget :$70 million
The biggest bomb of the year goes to this animated Dorothy of Oz spin-off, proving once again that tried-and-true doesn’t always pay off (even in 3D). Fully lambasted by critics for unmemorable music numbers, gaudy and cheap-looking CG animation and a tedious storyline, it failed to do justice to cinema’s most enchanting neverland and BOed just $26 million worldwide on a $70 million budget.

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Illustrating the limits of star power, "Our Brand is Crisis" and "Burnt" were both roundly rejected by audiences despite the presence of Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper. "Our Brand is Crisis," a political satire about a spin-doctor navigating a Latin American presidential election, is the worst wide release opening of Bullock's career, sliding in below 1996's "Two If By Sea" with $4.7 million. It debuted to a dreadful $3.4 million across 2,202 locations.

Sorry, Fantastic Four and Tomorrowland — there’s a new top of the flops.
7, taking $25.6 million on an estimated $122 million budget for Fox. And Tomorrowland, Disney’s entry in the dog race, opened to $33 million against a whopping $190 million production budget, good enough for a 17% return. Keep in mind: Domestic open-vs.-budget is about as unofficial and oversimplified as a metric gets. A film’s true performance is a byzantine blend of box office returns and home-video potential both at home and overseas, measured against not just production costs but also marketing spend and profit-sharing structures at the distributing studio.
