Video is dedicated to the great fight of Bulgaria against Ottomans during the second part of 14th Century when Turkish countless armies captured and conquered Balkan Peninsula. Due to the feudal fragmentation and demographic problems all the Orthodox christian states became spoils of war for Turks.Till the last hope till the last breath the brave orthodox population was fighting against the enemy. One of the bulgarian greatest heroes who stands against the evil was orthodox patriarch Evtimiy. He is a greatest bulgarian and slavic historical figure of all time and is canonized as a saint. In fact he is the last patriarch of bulgarian medieval church, the scribe who inspired the orthodox slavic literacy and culture in Serbia and Russia, and great warrior who led citizens of bulgarian capital Turnovgrad in lasting 3 months defense battle for Medieval Turnovgrad! Also the first try of Western European crusaders to meet and fight Ottomans have to be mentioned. The western warriors from almost all medieval european countries went to bulgarian lands in order to banish Ottomans horde from Balkans and Byzantium but their outstanding try was crashed at the walls of bulgarian city Nikopol in the year of 1396.With the failure and defeating of Christian army near Nikopol the Second Bulgarian Empire was totally ruined and fell into Turkish (Ottoman) yoke.

Bulgaria Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is located in the extreme south east of Europe, a country of natural splendour, fairy-tale like villages, ancient ruins, and monasteries with remarkable frescos as well as a culture that is between both Orient and Occident. Sofia, the ‘wise woman’ and, since 1879, capital of the new Bulgaria, a city whose roots date back to the fifth century B.C. Once Thracians settled, then followed Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans. At the end of the nineteenth century the city’s appearance changed from Oriental to European into a dynamic metropolis. Sofia’s historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula, the Aleksandâr Nevski Cathedral, a work of art of the Russian Orthodox religion that can accommodate a congregation of more than five thousand. Vidin is dominated by the Baba Vida Fortress whose impressive towers and bastion date back to the thirteenth century. From the banks of the Danube the north western entrances to the mediaeval realm were strictly controlled and the fortress protected it from invasion by ship. Varna is the biggest city on the Black Sea coast and is one of Europe’s oldest cities. The golden, shining domes of the impressive cathedral in the city centre are one of its main landmarks. The caves of western Rhodopes are the main destination for many of the region’s visitors, such as the Jagodina Cave that is ten kilometres long and extends up to five levels within the limestone mountains. It is the longest and deepest of the Rhodopes and its tunnels and huge galleries feature traces of prehistoric inhabitants. Bulgaria – on the border of both Occident and Orient - a country full of history and natural beauty with authentic culture and overwhelming hospitality. A colourful mixture of fascinating tribes with a large variety of tradition and, according to legend, a part of paradise that God gifted to the Bulgarian people!

Bulgaria Travel Video Guide
Bulgaria Travel Video Guide. From wild, wooded mountain ranges speckled with remote villages and enchanting monasteries to vibrant modern cities and long sandy beaches hugging the Black Sea coast, Bulgaria rewards exploration.
Black Sea Beaches
It isn't hard to see why so many foreign -- and Bulgarian -- holidaymakers descend on the Black Sea coastline each summer. Bulgaria Travel Video GuideThe long, professionally maintained sandy beaches at the big resorts are the equal of some of the most popular Mediterranean destinations, and, if you just want to relax, top up your tan or try out some water sports, there's nowhere better. Away from the parasols and jet skis you'll find smaller, more traditional seaside towns ideal for young families, as well as ancient settlements with cobbled lanes, quaint wooden houses and long, fascinating histories. Even the coast's two big cities, Varna and Burgas, have attractive beaches within minutes of their busy urban hearts.

Things to do in Sofia Bulgaria | Top Attractions Travel Guide
Sometimes when you travel somewhere you don't need to spend a lot of time in that particular city and/or country to form distinct memories and impressions. For us, our brief four day stay in Sofia, Bulgaria certainly fit the bill. From amazing local cuisine to street performances, we tried our best to see and do as much as we possibly could in short period of time. The following is a travel video we've put together highlighting the top attractions and things to do in Sofia, Bulgaria:
1) Our first day in Sofia we hit the ground taking in many street performances, getting caught up in a football mob / rally, visiting major landmarks and eating street food. These are our first impressions of Sofia.
2) Already impressed by Bulgarian street food, we decided to treat ourselves to a sit down meal to further sample Bulgarian cuisine. At Lubimoto we feasted on Chushki Burek (stuffed red peppers with feta cheese) and Bulgarian pork loin with potatoes, cheese and gravy. Both were delicious!
3) Wanting to indulge our taste buds further we visited the ever popular Made In Home restaurant where we sampled Rakia and goat cheese salad.
4) On our last day in Sofia we tried to cover parts of the city we didn't get to visit on previous days. Some of the highlights included checking out Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and witnessing more street performances. Those Bulgarian break dancers really do have all the moves!
This is part of our Travel in Bulgaria series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Bulgarian culture, Bulgarian arts, Bulgarian foods, Bulgarian religion and Bulgarian people.

Bulgarian Riviera Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The Bulgarian coast is nowadays awakening from its long sleep. On its two greatest holiday areas, the Golden Sand and the Sunny Coast, several hundred new, high quality hotels were built, their malls, restaurants and night clubs are of European quality, while its beaches were awarded by the European Union’s blue flag. Varna is called the most beautiful city of the Black Sea. Recently, more than hundred of its historical buildings were renovated. The city is full of Museums and monuments, most important of all is the roman termas and the memorial park of the battle of Varna. The monument cities of Nesebar and Sozopol are giving us a unique sight with their half rock, half tree houses and byzantin temples. Balchik, Albena and Burgas are all protecting their memories of thrakian, greek, roman and byzantian times. The folksy restaurants are offering us the proper falvours of the Balkan peninsula. Along the roads old monasteries and ancient graves await those who are interested in history. The 378 long, sandy coast of the Black Sea is a paradise for yachting and watersports, where the beach life lasts from spring to autumn

Sofia Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Sofia in Bulgaria.
Sofia, the ‘wise woman’, has since 1879 been the capital of the new Bulgaria and is a city whose roots date back to the fifth century B.C. Once Thracians settled in the city followed by Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans. In the fourteenth century the city was named after its patron saint, the Goddess Of Wisdom. Today’s Sofia originated at the end of the nineteenth century. At that time the city’s appearance changed from one of Oriental, to European, when Neo-classical buildings and tall civic houses replaced the low-built Ottoman constructions as well as Communist building megalomania! Sofia is a popular city and knows how to captivate its visitors. Its historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula of the twentieth century, the Aleksandâr Nevski Cathedral, a huge structure that dominates the highest point of the city. At the entrance to the president’s palace, the changing of the guards ceremony is a popular attraction. Dressed in red-white parade uniforms with lace jackets and feathered hats that date back to the nineteenth century, the soldiers goose-step a pre-determined route. The transformation of Sofia into a lively, cosmopolitan capital has succeeded well with history and tradition still very much in evidence. Young, modern and exciting with all the flair of the mystical Balkans!

The Russo-Turkish War Of 1877-78 - "93 Harbi"
The Russo-Turkish War of 1877--78 (Russian: Русско-турецкая война (1877--1878 гг.); Ottoman Turkish: ۹۳ حربی, Doksan Üç Harbi ('93 Harbi, "93 War"); Turkish: '93 Harbi or 1877--78 Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı; Bulgarian: Руско-турска освободителна война (1877--1878 г.)) was a conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Eastern Orthodox coalition led by the Russian Empire and composed of several Balkan countries. Fought in the Balkans and in the Caucasus, it originated in emerging 19th-century Balkan nationalism. Additional factors included Russian hopes of recovering territorial losses suffered during the Crimean War, re-establishing itself in the Black Sea, and supporting the political movement attempting to free Balkan nations from the Ottoman Empire.
As a result of the war, Russia succeeded in claiming several provinces in the Caucasus, namely Kars and Batumi. The principalities of Romania (which was also forced by Russia to cede the Budjak region of the Danube Delta, in spite of an existing treaty of alliance between the two countries), Serbia and Montenegro, each of which had had de facto sovereignty for some time, formally proclaimed independence from the Ottoman Empire.
According to the Treaty of San Stefano, 1878-03-03, the entire land populated by Bulgarian citizens were free. This included the territory from Danube to Rodopa mountains to the south and Macedonia to southwest. Three months later the Great Powers of Europe, England, France, Austro-Hungary and Russia, split the newly liberated country into three pieces, North, South and "Macedonia". After almost five centuries of Ottoman domination (1396--1878), the Bulgarian state was re-established as the Principality of Bulgaria, covering the land between the Danube River and the Balkan Mountains (except Northern Dobrudja which was given to Romania) as well as the region of Sofia, which became the new state's capital. The Congress of Berlin also allowed Austria-Hungary to occupy Bosnia and Herzegovina and Great Britain to take over Cyprus. In 1885 the people of North and South Bulgaria rejected the Berlin Congress compromise and united.
Treatment of Christians in the Ottoman Empire
Article 9 of the 1856 Paris Peace Treaty, concluded at the end of the Crimean War, obliged the Ottoman Empire to grant Christians equal rights with Muslims. Before the treaty was signed, the Ottoman government issued an edict, Hatt-ı Hümayun, which proclaimed the principle of the equality of Muslims and non-Muslims, and produced some specific reforms to this end. For example, the jizya tax was abolished and non-Muslims were allowed to join the army.
However, some key aspects of dhimmi status were retained, including that the testimony of Christians against Muslims was not accepted in courts, which granted Muslims effective immunity for offenses conducted against Christians. Although local level relations between communities were often good, this practice encouraged exploitation. Abuses were at their worst in regions with a predominantly Christian population, where local authorities often openly supported abuse as a means to keep Christians subjugated.
Crisis in Lebanon, 1860
In 1858, the Maronite peasants, stirred by the clergy, revolted against their Maronite feudal overlords and established a peasant republic. In southern Lebanon, where Maronite peasants worked for Druze overlords, Druze peasants sided with their overlords against the Maronites, transforming the conflict into a civil war. Although both sides suffered, about 10,000 Maronites were massacred at the hands of the Druze.
Under the threat of European intervention, Ottoman authorities restored order. Nevertheless, French and British intervention followed. Under further European pressure, the Sultan agreed to appoint a Christian governor in Lebanon, whose candidacy was to be submitted by the Sultan and approved by the European powers.
On May 27, 1860 a group of Maronites raided a Druze village . Massacres and reprisal massacres followed, not only in the Lebanon but also in Syria. In the end, between 7,000 and 12,000 people of all religions , had been killed, and over 300 villages, 500 churches, 40 monasteries, and 30 schools were destroyed. Christian attacks on Muslims in Beirut stirred the Muslim population of Damascus to attack the Christian minority with between 5,000 and 25,000 of the latter being killed, including the American and Dutch consuls, giving the event an international dimension.
Ottoman foreign minister Fuat Pasha came to Syria and solved the problems by seeking out and executing the culprits, including the governor and other officials. Order was restored, and preparations made to give Lebanon new autonomy to avoid European intervention. Nevertheless, in September 1860 France sent a fleet, and Britain joined to prevent a unilateral intervention that could help increase French influence in the area at Britain's expense.

The Crimean War - Ottoman-European Alliance Against Russia
The Crimean War (pronounced /kraɪˈmiːən/ or /krɨˈmiːən/) (October 1853 -- February 1856) was a conflict in which Russia lost to an alliance of France, Britain, the Ottoman Empire, and Sardinia. While neutral, the Austrian Empire also played a role in defeating the Russians.
The immediate issue involved the rights of Christians in the Holy Land, which was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. The French promoted the rights of Catholics, while Russia promoted those of the Orthodox. The longer-term causes involved the decline of the Ottoman Empire, and the unwillingness of Britain and France to allow Russia to gain territory and power at Ottoman expense. Russia lost and the Ottomans gained a twenty-year respite from Russian pressure. The Christians were granted a degree of official equality and the Orthodox gained control of the Christian churches in dispute. Russia survived, gained a new appreciation for its religious diversity, and launched a reform program with far-reaching consequences.
Russia and the Ottoman Empire went to war in October 1853 over Russia's rights to protect Orthodox Christians. Russia gained the upper hand after destroying the Ottoman fleet at the Black Sea port of Sinope. To stop Russia's conquest, France and Britain entered in March 1854. Most of the fighting took place for control of the Black Sea, with land battles on the Crimean peninsula in southern Russia. The Russians held their great fortress at Sevastopol for over a year. After it fell, a peace was arranged at Paris in March 1856. The religion issue had already been resolved. The main results were that the Black Sea was neutralised—Russia would not have any warships there—and the two vassals Wallachia and Moldavia became largely independent under nominal Ottoman rule.
There were smaller campaigns in eastern Anatolia, Caucasus, the Baltic Sea, the Pacific Ocean and the White Sea. In Russia, this war is also known as the "Eastern War" (Russian: Восточная война, Vostochnaya Voina).
The war transformed the region. Because of battles, population exchanges, and nationalist movements incited by the war, the present-day states of Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and regions such as Crimea and the Caucasus all changed in small or large ways due to this conflict.
The Crimean War is notorious for logistical, medical and tactical failure on both sides. The naval side saw both a successful Allied campaign which eliminated most of the ships of the Russian Navy in the Black Sea, and a successful blockade by the Royal Navy in the Baltic. It was one of the first "modern" wars because it saw the first use of major technologies, such as railways and telegraphs.(Preface) It is also famous for the work of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, who pioneered contrasting modern medical practices while treating the wounded. The war was one of the first to be documented extensively in written reports and photographs.
Russia, as a member of the Holy Alliance, had operated as the "police of Europe", maintaining the balance of power that had been established in the Treaty of Vienna in 1815. Russia had assisted Austria's efforts in suppressing the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, and expected gratitude. It wanted a free hand in settling its problems with the Ottoman Empire -- the "sick man of Europe". Britain could not tolerate Russian dominance of Ottoman affairs as that would challenge the British role in the eastern Mediterranean.
For over 200 years, Russia had been expanding in a southerly direction toward the warm water ports of the Black Sea. Warm water ports that did not freeze over in the winter were essential for the development of Russian year-round trade and development of a strong navy. This brought the emerging Russian state into conflict with the Ukrainian Cossacks and then with the Crimean Tatars. When Russia conquered these groups and gained possession of Ukraine, the Ottoman Empire lost its buffer zone against Russian expansion, and Russia and the Ottoman Empire fell into direct conflict. The conflict with the Ottoman Empire also presented a religious issue of importance, as Russia saw itself as the protector of Orthodox Christians, many of whom lived under Ottoman control.
The immediate causes of the war
The immediate chain of events leading to France and Britain declaring war on Russia on 27 and 28 March 1854 came from the ambition of the French emperor Napoleon III to restore the grandeur of France. He wanted Catholic support that would come his way if he attacked Eastern Orthodoxy, as sponsored by Russia. The Marquis Charles de La Valette was a zealous Catholic and a leading member of the "clerical party" which demanded French protection of the Roman Catholic rights to the holy places in Palestine. Napoleon appointed La Valette in May 1851 as his ambassador to the Porte (the Ottoman Empire).
