Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands, the largest being Bahrain Island, at 55 km (34 mi) long by 18 km (11 mi) wide. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and is connected to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway. The peninsula of Qatar is to the southeast across the Gulf of Bahrain. The planned Qatar Bahrain Causeway will link Bahrain and Qatar and become the world's longest marine causeway.
The Gulf of Bahrain is an inlet of the Persian Gulf on the east coast of Saudi Arabia, separated from the main body of water by the peninsula of Qatar. It surrounds the islands of Bahrain. The King Fahd Causeway crosses the western section of the Gulf of Bahrain, connection Saudi Arabia to Bahrain.

Central market has a meat, vegetable and fish section. The streets in the centre manama are packed with shish, tikka, sharwarma, broasted, bread bakeries and so so much more. It is really vibrant and there are so many different types of spices on offer. This is just a little look at the country, on the other end of the scale and of no interest to us there are of course huge shopping malls selling designer brands and lots of fast food outlets, a little like Dubai really in that sense. We prefer the back streets and the real deal though, take your Gucci and KFC and stick it. As an island the fish is of course a big player here. Following a period of Arab rule, Bahrain was occupied by the Portuguese in 1521, who in turn were expelled in 1602 by Shah Abbas I of the Safavid dynasty under the Persian Empire. In 1783, the Bani Utbah clan captured Bahrain from Nasr Al-Madhkur and has since been ruled by the Al Khalifa royal family, with Ahmed al Fateh as Bahrain's first hakim. In the late 1800s, following successive treaties with the British, Bahrain became a protectorate of the United Kingdom. In 1971, Bahrain declared independence. Formerly a state, Bahrain was declared a Kingdom in 2002. Since early 2011, the country has experienced sustained protests and unrest inspired by the regional Arab Spring, particularly by the majority Shia population.

Vintage Images of Bahrain Aviation Gulf Air Royal Family Airport
English/Nat
Soldiers from the Bahrain army have been praying for the victims of the 143 people who died on a Gulf Air flight from Cairo to Manama, Bahrain's capital.
A spokesman for Gulf Air says the pilot gave no indication to air traffic controllers that there were any problems with the plane.
Most of the debris from the wreckage was cleared on Thursday, along with the bodies.
Scraps of metal and other remnants have been taken to an airport hangar where aviation experts are reconstructing the Airbus 320 for investigators.
Both of the plane's "black boxes" - the flight data and voice cockpit recorders - are to be shipped abroad for data recovery.
Some debris which still remains in the shallow waters won't be cleared until representatives from America's National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) arrive to help with the investigation.
The NTSB representatives were supposed to come arrive on Friday but have been delayed and are now expected on Friday evening.
Six French government experts and a representative of Airbus Industries have already arrived to start investigating the crash.
Sixty-three of the passengers were Egyptian, 34 Bahraini, 12 Saudi Arabian, nine Palestinian, six from the United Arab Emirates, three Chinese, two British and one each from Canada, Oman, Kuwait, Sudan, Australia and the United States.
The U-S Embassy in Bahrain is planning a private memorial service on Saturday for the American, Seth Foti, a 31-year-old diplomatic courier.
Since dawn on Friday, divers in a small vessel from the U-S Navy have been looking for a yellow pouch lost in the debris which is said to contain confidential diplomatic papers from Foti.

"Every piece is critical for the experts to assimilate exactly what happened. The position of the undercarriage, the fuselage, the averons. All parts can play a piece in a giant jigsaw. When these pieces are put together you can get some sort of indication, where the plane went in, what angle, what speed. This computerized system can tell you what maybe the problems were. Additional to that, there is the problem of the flight recorders."
SUPER CAPTION: Colonel James Windsor, Chief of Bahrain Civil Defence

"You can rescue and collect bodies for many, many years as I have done. But this is a tremendous scale and so many children are involved. It is always very, very sad and a traumatic experience. Allot of the rescuers were quite moved by what's happening."

Bahrain ( البحرين ), officially the Kingdom of Bahrain (Arabic: مملكة البحرين About this sound Mamlakat al-Baḥrayn), is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf. It is an archipelago with Bahrain Island, the largest land mass, at 55 km (34 mi) long by 18 km (11 mi) wide. Saudi Arabia lies to the west and is connected to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway while Iran lies 200 km (124 mi) to the north across the Persian Gulf. The peninsula of Qatar is to the southeast across the Gulf of Bahrain. The population in 2010 stood at 1,234,571, including 666,172 non-nationals.[7]
Bahrain is the site of the ancient land of the Dilmun civilisation.[8] Bahrain was one of the earliest areas to convert to Islam in 628 AD. Since early 2011, the country has experienced sustained protests and unrest inspired by the regional Arab Spring, particularly by the majority Shia population.[9]
Bahrain has the first post-oil economy in the Persian Gulf.[10] Since the late 20th century, Bahrain has invested in the banking and tourism sectors.[11] The country's capital, Manama, is home to many large financial structures. Bahrain has a high Human Development Index (ranked 48th in the world) and was recognised by the World Bank as a high income economy.

Bahrain is believed to be the site of the ancient land of the Dilmun civilization[4] and later came under the rule of successive Parthian and Sassanid Persian empires. The country was one of the earliest areas to convert to Islam in 628 AD. One of the longest continuous stories in human history can perhaps be traced through the Bahrain fort in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
This archaeological site features a tell, a mound created by continuous, overlapping civilizations.
Continuous occupation of this area is thought to have begun around 2300 BC and continued into the 16th century.

HELLO EVERYONE! Welcome back to my channel! It is the last video of my Middle Eastern adventures. I know, I know, there's so much unseen footage BECAUSE either I didn't have my camera with me OR no video was allowed, OR I took photos instead. Not to worry, full detailed blogposts will be up on my blog http://www.abstractorganza.com so check back for updates! If you're bummed out I missed filming something you wanted to see, not to worry, I will be back in the Middle East VERY SOON. Any requests on what to see just comment below!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-My friend took me abaya shopping at Abu Hail Centre which is about a 15-20 minute drive from JBR. It was my first time shopping for abayas so I was having a field day! So many patterns, prints, colors, at very reasonable prices! These shop owners are more than willing to bargain a good price with you as well so don't be scared to haggle! I got a beautiful abaya for only $80 thanks to my lovely pal who talked her way to a great price! Just FYI, this is a small indoor shopping centre mostly selling abayas & muslim wear so try to dress conservative as it is frequented by locals!
-Dubai was surprisingly chilly. During the day there was a cool breeze with clear, sunny skies. At night the temperature would fall drastically around high 50s, low 60s. It was beautiful throughout my stay however the water WAS a bit too cold for me at Jumeirah Beach. It was perfect tanning weather though!
-Make sure you visit the Spice & Gold Souks in Old Dubai. And while you're at it, take an "abra" down Dubai Creek, it costs just 1 dirham and you can easily get to the souks by the abra!
-FlyDUBAI has deals throughout the year, flying out of Dubai Terminal 2 which is its local low cost airline. We flew out to Bahrain to visit some friends and got a great deal on flights! If you're in Dubai make sure to check out Fly Dubai to explore other countries nearby! For it being a low cost airline, I was very impressed. I had lots of legroom to stretch, on board entertainment (f.r.i.e.n.d.s THANK THE LORD!) complimentary drinks, friendly staff, and mood lighting. Definitely recommend flying with Fly Dubai! Just make sure you tell your driver TERMINAL 2.
-The Domain Hotel in Bahrain is an absolute must if you're in Manama. The staff was very helpful, rooms are one of the best and state of the art and the views are just to DIE FOR! Not to mention, The Domain has a great Spa, several restaurants and even a lounge where ladies drink for free EVERY DAY. Could it get any better?
-If you're ever in Bahrain, make sure you take a scenic drive to Amwaj Islands. Visit the Dragon Hotel to eat at their restaurant and be prepared to have lunch with a fabulous view!
-Bahrain was amazing and I will make sure to film more when I return!

Take a tour of Bahrain Fort in Karrana, Bahrain - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The different inhabitants of the area include the Portuguese, Persians, and ancient Dilmun civilization.
The Portuguese built the fort that gives the area its current name.
Today, approximately 25 percent of the site has been excavated, and due to those findings, it was honored with a UNESCO World Heritage designation.

A little look around the markets, shops and food of Bahrain. This tiny gulf country with a population of around 1.2 million is made up in half of non nationals, hence the food and many of the workers are from India, Kerala in most part, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Filipinos in the most part. Saudi Arabia is an hour away as is Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai. The Kingdom of Bahrain مملكة البحرين , is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf. The population in 2010 stood at 1,234,571, including 666,172 non-nationals. Bahrain is the site of the ancient land of the Dilmun civilisation. Bahrain was one of the earliest areas to convert to Islam in 628 AD.

SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Every piece is critical for the experts to assimilate exactly what happened. The position of the undercarriage, the fuselage, the averons. All parts can play a piece in a giant jigsaw. When these pieces are put together you can get some sort of indication, where the plane went in, what angle, what speed. This computerized system can tell you what maybe the problems were. Additional to that, there is the problem of the flight recorders."
SUPER CAPTION: Colonel James Windsor, Chief of Bahrain Civil Defence
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"You can rescue and collect bodies for many, many years as I have done. But this is a tremendous scale and so many children are involved. It is always very, very sad and a traumatic experience. Allot of the rescuers were quite moved by what's happening."

Hello and Welcome! For this Flight Report I was headed for Saudi Arabia for Umrah. It was also the first ever Airbus A321 I've flown and I'm pretty glad it was with Gulf Air because their Airbus A321's have a great interior in my opinion! Although this flight wasn't as amazing as I was hoping for but I'm glad I got to Saudi Arabia anyway.

****typo at minute 4:50, i meant to say Bahrain is a beautiful COUNTRY not city.***
