Eurostat is a Directorate-General of the European Commission located in Luxembourg. Its main responsibilities are to provide statistical information to the institutions of the European Union (EU) and to promote the harmonisation of statistical methods across its member states and candidates for accession as well as EFTA countries. The organisations in the different countries which actively cooperate with Eurostat are summarised under the concept of the European Statistical System.
As a Directorate-General of the Commission, Eurostat is allocated to the portfolio of the European Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud, Algirdas Šemeta .
The current Director-General of Eurostat is Walter Radermacher (de) since 2008, former President of the Federal Statistical Office of Germany. Current Deputy Director-General is Marie Bohatá (cs) since 2004, former President of the Czech Statistical Office.

Figures from the Brussels statistics body Eurostat for the second quarter of this year shows the numbers have jumped. Eurostat publikon statistikat e azilkërkuesve për tre mujorin e dytë të vitit 2015. Gjatë kësaj kohe, mbi 210.000 refugjatë kanë aplikuar për azil për herë të parë në Europë.
Vendet kryesore prej nga vijnë emigrantët janë Siria dhe Afganistani, që në kombinim përbëjnë një të tretën e totalit me 71.000 individë.
Një pjesë shqetësuese të të dhenave statistikore vijon t’i mbulojë Shqipëria, e cila renditet e treta me 8%.
90% e tyre kanë destinacion të preferuar Gjermaninë. Ndërkohë, shtetasit kosovarë, të cilët kryesonin listën e tre mujorit të parë me 50.000 aplikime, kanë rënë në nivelin e 10.000 aplikimeve.
Mesararisht, më shumë se një në tre refugjatë ka si pikësynim Gjermaninë. Në këtë vend ka patur gjithsej 80.900 kërkesa, prej të cilave 15 445 kanë qenë nga vendi ynë.
Vendi i dytë në të cilën ka pasur më shumë aplikime është Hungaria me 32.000, e ndjekur nga Austria me 17.000 të tilla, Italia me 14.900, e kështu me rradhë.

Eurostat publikon statistikat e azilkërkuesve për tre mujorin e dytë të vitit 2015. Gjatë kësaj kohe, mbi 210.000 refugjatë kanë aplikuar për azil për herë të parë në Europë.
Vendet kryesore prej nga vijnë emigrantët janë Siria dhe Afganistani, që në kombinim përbëjnë një të tretën e totalit me 71.000 individë.

Mesararisht, më shumë se një në tre refugjatë ka si pikësynim Gjermaninë. Në këtë vend ka patur gjithsej 80.900 kërkesa, prej të cilave 15 445 kanë qenë nga vendi ynë.
Vendi i dytë në të cilën ka pasur më shumë aplikime është Hungaria me 32.000, e ndjekur nga Austria me 17.000 të tilla, Italia me 14.900, e kështu me rradhë.

In the long term, one goal of the EU is the economic, social and infrastructural alignment of all regions, thus improving the lives of all Europeans.
The economic prosperity is measured by the GDP. However, it is not very meaningful, because it only considers Member States as a whole.
For an effective structural policy, it is important that calculations concerning to the economic strength of Europe are regarded as a sum of calculations of the economic strength of many regions.
Instead of focusing the GDP of the States, more detailed geographical areas are considered.
Therefore, the EU countries have to publish the data for their own regions, which must be collected in the same manner.
By harmonizing the measurement methodology, the data and, thus, the regions are compareable.
The result is the regional GDP of all regions.
Measures of economic policy, which are also promoted and supported, are recommended to regions of different economic strength.
On the basis of regional data, EU leaders and regional managers can practice an efficient regional policy in close cooperation.
For this purpose, the EU provides various Structural Funds.
And the results speak for themselves. They include:
600,000 new jobs
78,000 supported start-ups and
26,000 road kilometers

Institucioni i statistikave në Bashkimin Evropian ka publikuar të dhënat për azilkërkuesit në vendet e BE-së për 3-mujorin e dytë të vitit 2015.
Nga të dhënat e EUROSTAT rezulton se, gjatë kësaj periudhe 17 700 shqiptarë kanë kërkuar azil në BE. Shqiptarët përbëjnë 8% të kërkesave për azil dhe janë të tretët pas qytetarëve nga Siria dhe Afganistani.
Thuajse 90% (15 400) e shqiptarëve që kanë apliar për azil, e kanë bërë kërkesën në Gjermani.

Gjatë periudhës prill-maj-qershor në BE kanë kërkuar azil 213 200 njerëz, rreth 15% më shumë krahasuar me 3-mujorin e parë të këtij viti. Ndërsa krahasuar me të njëjtët periudhë të vitit 2014 ka një rritje prej 85%.
1 në 3 kërkesa për azil që janë bërë në BE, është dorëzuar në Gjermani, vendi i cili ka pritur 80 900 kërkesa në total. Në vend të dytë është Hungaria me 32 700 kërkesa, më pas vjen Austria me 17 400 aplikime, Italia me 14 900, Franca 14 700 dhe më pas Suedia 14 300.

Somewhere someone is always talking about inflation.
One main task of Eurostat which relates to inflation is the calculation of the harmonized index of consumer prices.
A price index is an indicator of the development of prices for selected products, for example, a cup of coffee.
At Eurostat Peter observes how the prices for products change over time.
Here the price level is measured, i.e. the number of units of a currency you have to pay for one unit of a product.
An increasing price level is called inflation, which manifests itself in a positive rate of inflation and decreasing purchasing power.
If Peter pays 1 Euro for a cup of coffee today, but 2 Euros after one year, the inflation rate for coffee is 100%.
The purchasing power has been halved. He now has to pay the double amount of money for the same amount of coffee.
Every state calculates the change in the price level for itself in the CPI. On the European level, however a standardization and harmonization for this measuring is required.
To calculate the HICP of Europe, all national HICPs of the Member States are required.

Somewhere someone is always talking about inflation.
One main task of Eurostat which relates to inflation is the calculation of the harmonized index of consumer prices.
A price index is an indicator of the development of prices for selected products, for example, a cup of coffee.
At Eurostat Peter observes how the prices for products change over time.
Here the price level is measured, i.e. the number of units of a currency you have to pay for one unit of a product.
An increasing price level is called inflation, which manifests itself in a positive rate of inflation and decreasing purchasing power.
If Peter pays 1 Euro for a cup of coffee today, but 2 Euros after one year, the inflation rate for coffee is 100%.
The purchasing power has been halved. He now has to pay the double amount of money for the same amount of coffee.
Every state calculates the change in the price level for itself in the CPI. On the European level, however a standardization and harmonization for this measuring is required.
To calculate the HICP of Europe, all national HICPs of the Member States are required.
Eurostat monitors the compliance with the rules for determining the national HICPs and, on this basis, calculates the HICP for Europe.
Information about and the comparability of inflation rates are essential for the design of different policy fields, especially for monetary and economic policy.

If we are interested in growth, we mean to improve our standard of living.
Every state calculates the GDP in its own currency.
So, can they be compared to each other?
The GDP in a national currency cannot simply be changed into Euro at the relevant exchange rate in an expedient way,
because the exchange rates are subject to strong fluctuations and the purchasing power is different in each country.
If you want to compare countries, the said aspects need to be corrected.
The principle is simple: The data are calculated using the same prices for all countries.
The PPP here are price relatives that show how many units of foreign currency are needed to purchase a product which is available for one unit of the domestic currency in a country.
A PPP of 2 for a cup of coffee in the USA compared to Germany means that you can purchase the same quantity in the USA for two dollars, like in Germany for one euro.
This way, the PPP does not only possible to convert into a single currency, but also to correct the effects of the exchange rates and adjust the differences in the price level of the countries.
Due the particularity of a single currency in the euro zone, Eurostat has set an artificial currency as the standard, the so-called Purchasing Power Standard PPS.
