Uprising – The 1944 Warsaw Uprising – Sabaton History 076 [Official]
August 1944. After nearly 5 years of suffering and oppression at the hands of the Nazis, the Polish resistance in Warsaw was ready to rise up against the German occupation. With the Red Army approaching towards the Vistula from the east, the insurgents planned to take over much of the Polish capital and hold it until help from their Allies arrived. In the early morning hours of August 1, groups of armed young men broke the curfew and stormed official buildings and German warehouses. But as insurgents fought for their lives and future, the outside world however, remained eerily quiet to their pleas for help.

Week 258 - The Warsaw Uprising Begins! - WW2 - August 5, 1944
As the Red Army closes in on Warsaw, the Polish Home Army in the city rises up against the German forces. Up in the north the Red Army takes Kaunas. The Allies take Florence in Italy this week, well, half of it, and in France break out of Normandy and into Brittany. The Allies also finally take Myitkyina in Burma after many weeks of siege, and in the Marianas take Tinian and nearly finish taking Guam. And in Finland the President resigns, which could have serious implications for Finland remaining in the war.

Massive demonstration in central Warsaw commemorates historic uprising
Central Warsaw came to a standstill on Tuesday (August 1) to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw uprising.
Drivers stopped their cars and citizens stood still, with some letting off flares, as sirens rang around the city at 1700 (1500GMT), to mark the "W" hour, the time when on August 1, 1944, Polish resistance fighters attempted to overthrow the Nazi occupiers.
On August 1, 1944 thousands of poorly-armed Warsaw residents rose up against the German Nazi forces to take control of the city ahead of the advancing Soviet army.
The Warsaw Uprising collapsed after 63 days, leaving the city in ruins and historians divided about whether the insurgency should have been launched in the first place.

Warsaw Rise!
Do you remember when, when the Nazis forced their rule on Poland 1939 and the allies turned away
From the underground rose a hope of freedom as a whisper
City in despair, but they never lost their faith
Women, men and children fight
they were dying side by side
And the blood they shed upon the streets
was a sacrifice willingly paid
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
1944 help that never came
Calling Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
Rise up and hear the call
History calling to you
‘Warszawo, walcz!’
Spirit soul and heart
in accordance with the old traditions
1944 still the allies turn away
Fighting street to street
in a time of hope and desperation
Did it on their own and they never lost their faith
Women, men and children fight
they were dying side by side
And the blood they shed upon the streets
was a sacrifice willingly paid
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
1944 help that never came
Calling Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
Rise up and hear the call
History calling to you
‘Warszawo, walcz!’
[2x]
All the streetlights in the city
broken many years ago
Break the curfew, hide in sewers
Warsaw it’s time to rise now
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
1944 help that never came
Calling Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
Rise up and hear the call
History calling to you
‘Warszawa, walcz!’

========= Uprising LYRICS ==========
Warsaw Rise!
Do you remember when, when the Nazis forced their rule on Poland
1939 and the allies turned away
From the underground rose a hope of freedom as a whisper
City in despair, but they never lost their faith
Women, men and children fight
they were dying side by side
And the blood they shed upon the streets
was a sacrifice willingly paid
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
1944 help that never came
Calling
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
Rise up and hear the call
History calling to you
Warszawo, walcz!
Spirit soul and heart
in accordance with the old traditions
1944 still the allies turn away
Fighting street to street
in a time of hope and desperation
Did it on their own and they never lost their faith
Women, men and children fight
they were dying side by side
And the blood they shed upon the streets
was a sacrifice willingly paid
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
1944 help that never came
Calling
Warsaw city at war
Voices from underground
whispers of freedom
Rise up and hear the call
History calling to you
Warszawo, walcz!
All the streetlights in the city
broken many years ago
Break the curfew, hide in sewers
Warsaw it’s time to rise now

As the Red Army closes in on Warsaw, the Polish Home Army in the city rises up against the German forces. Up in the north the Red Army takes Kaunas. The Allies take Florence in Italy this week, well, half of it, and in France break out of Normandy and into Brittany. The Allies also finally take Myitkyina in Burma after many weeks of siege, and in the Marianas take Tinian and nearly finish taking Guam. And in Finland the President resigns, which could have serious implications for Finland remaining in the war.

During the Polish November Uprising the unit of Russian cavalry is sent to bring the order in the area, where the insurgents are active. Among the officers is Baron Fyodor Jeremin, young and naive arristocrat, who volunteered to join the army hoping to forget being rejected by a girl. But the fight against Polish insurgents isn’t what he epxected to be - instead of glorious battles they ride around villages and hunt the outnumbered and poorly armed survivors of the insurgents units supported by the local inhabitants. Soon he will have to face the even darker reality when his superior starts to avenge the killed soldiers by killing the civilians.

The November Uprising 1830 / Powstanie Listopadowe
No copyright infringement intended.
The Congress of Vienna brought the existence of the Duchy of Warsaw to an end and essentially divided Poland once again.
Despite numerous protests by various Polish politicians who actively supported the personal union, Grand Duke Constantine had no intention of observing the constitution, one of the most liberal in Europe at that time.
In 1830, the constitution of 1815 was a dead letter, secret police were everywhere, and censorship was severe. Polish organizations were persecuted and Russians had largely replaced Poles in administrative positions. The tense situation in the kingdom was ignited by Russia's mobilization of the Polish army to suppress revolutionary uprisings in France and Belgium.

For the first time since the Napoleonic wars Poland tried to regain its independence. A revolt in Warsaw by young officers led by Piotr Wysocki sparked a revolution which spread to almost all the pre partitions Polish-Lithuanian territories controlled by Russia.
This revolution is also called the November uprising because the revolt started on the night of the 29 November 1830.

Scene from the movie Union of Salvation.
This movie not historically accurate, but some scenes are good. That happened on December, 1825. Russian Leib Guard led by young officers try to take the Senate, but failed. I like their motivations, courage. They were young and brave officers, who wanted changes in the country.

One of the very few Polish war movies that was not infected with the "glorious patriotic past" virus. What we have here is the wide range of attitude the people have during the uprising - Russian officers, who obey the rules, but sometimes just have enough of the constant threat, civilians who support the uprising, but don’t want to confront the Russians, civilians who doesn’t support the uprising, but don’t want to confront the insurgents and the people why stood up and fight the fight that is doomed to failure.

"Szwadron" (1992)

Cadets at the military academy seized their armory and then the Russian arsenal at Warsaw in late November, 1830, which sparked an uprising which eventually grew to about 70,000 Polish, Lithuanian and Ruthenian combatants facing about 180,000 - 200,000 Tsarist troops.
In March of 1831 Edgar Allan Poe attempted to come to Poland as he had learned about the November Uprising. Poe intended to match the Polish army then. Due to his relegation from the West Point Academy, his attempts were unfruitful.
In spite of a promising start, delaying the abolition of serfdom and serious mishandling of the military operations bungled the opportunity. For a while victory actually lay in their grasp but indecision on the part of the Polish leaders led to defeat. Many military critics, among them the foremost Russian writer, General Puzyrevsky, maintained that in spite of the inequality of resources of the two countries, Poland had had every chance of holding her own against Russia, had the campaign been managed skillfully.
On October 5, 1831, the Polish army of over 20,000 men crossed the Prussian frontier, and amid scenes of heart rending despair and grief laid down their arms at Brodnica in preference to submission to Russia.
After the fall of the Uprising, thousands of former Polish combatants and other activists emigrated to Western Europe, where they were initially enthusiastically received. This element, known as the Great Emigration, soon dominated the Polish political and intellectual life. Within the occupied and repressed Poland, some sought progress through self-improvement oriented activities known as organic work, others, in cooperation with the emigrant circles, organized conspiracies and prepared for the next armed insurrection.
Polish women who emigrated to France wore black ribands and jewellery as a symbol of mourning for their lost homeland. Such images can be seen in the first scenes of the movie "Pan Tadeusz", filmed by Andrzej Wajda in 1999, based on the Polish national epic.
Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Slowacki wrote verse and drama, mystical and moral and yet intensely political, that still suffuse and inform the Polish imagination; Joachim lelewel wrote Poland's history; Frederic Chopin composed; Cyprian Kamil Norwid developed a new poetry whose innovation and genius was only recognised in the following century. This was a Romantic culture. Neither the old Age of Reason nor the optimistic, liberal mood of the contemporary West could answer the questions the Poles now put to themselves: why had Heaven allowed the martyrdom of their country when it sought only justice, and how - when - could it be resurrected from the tomb? Against the background of intense Catholic faith, there developed the idea of Messianism which - in its extreme form presented Poland as the collective Christ, crucified to redeem the nations, one day to be resurrected by a new embodiment of the Holy Spirit.

Scene from the movie Union of Salvation.
This movie not historically accurate, but some scenes are good. That happened on December, 1825. Russian Leib Guard led by young officers try to take the Senate, but failed. I like their motivations, courage. They were young and brave officers, who wanted changes in the country.
